I have never felt as terrified as now. I can feel my heart pounding in my chest. We have arrived at the Erudite headquarters, but we got to be quiet, so we take a sneaky back door. Still we have to wait for the boys and Grace, and I don't know where the hell they spend the night, but it must be far away. If they get here in time, the Erudite guards wouldn't notice us. But I don't know where they are. What if someone has happened to them?! No, nothing terrible happened. They are safe with each other. I might just be stressed, because I just want to save Nadine. But she isn't fully Divergent. Why would they need her?
A quarter later, we hear running noises. For a second I think they caught us, but the also soft paces remind me of Grace. I lower my gun as they run around the corner. "Wow. That lasted like...forever." I say. Calvin laughs. "Sorry. We got...held up a little. Don't worry, everything went okay." he explains. I slowly nod, not believing him so fast. "Where is Maisie?" Grace asks, looking terrified at us. I walk over to her and rest a hand on her shoulder. "She got...taken. But now we are going to save her too. I promise." I say. Maisie is Grace's best friend. But also mine. Grace nods. "O-Okay. Should we go then? I want our friends back." she says, with little tears in her eyes. And so we do. I open the door, letting a bright light consume me. I am blinded for a second, but realize that every Erudite building is like this. With a loaded gun I walk in, walking onto a person who is standing in that hallway, arms crossed. I look at her. She smirks. ''Well this is a big surprise. Brought your Factionless friends?'' she chuckles. My mouth falls open as I see who it is. Beth was right that she can't be trusted. Erden. ''You didn't think you Divergents would get away. Jeanine will get what she wants. My brother already caught the other Divergents at Candor. Don't think you will get away eventually.'' she smiles, and I just notice the guards summing up behind her, pointing their guns at us. Shit. We're screwed.
"Have you ever noticed that Divergents aren't welcome, Demi?" Erden smirks. Beth was right. She cannot be trusted. Erden chuckles. "You were so stupid to fall for Nadine's kidnapping that you led yourself here. Well, we actually did kidnap her. Just know that she's in good hands." "Good hands..." I snort. "That's a good one. You are all so original here." Erden walks over to me and stares. It creeps me out. "You can't save anyone, Demi. It's too late." Before I even know what the heck she is talking about, the back of a gun hits my head, and everything around me becomes pitch black.
