CHAPTER THREE: FROM NO RULES TO MORE MESS

April 2, 2003

 It’s now early April, and No Rules have just wrapped up their European leg of the tour. All the promotions for their first CD were finally over; now it was time to record their second CD.

 A day earlier, NR recorded several songs. This is their second day of recorded. Before they arrived at the recording studio, their PR team entered Epic Records to talk to one of the producers of NR, Cathy Dennis.

 One of the PR members said, “We heard that No Rules want to have a similar sound to Liberty X and Sugababes. Yes?”

 Cathy replied, “Yes. Why?”

 Another PR member told her, “We want No Rules to sound exactly like skate5, with a hint of BG6.”

 “But-”

 A third member said to Cathy sternly, “Do as we say or you’ll be fired!”

 Cathy went ahead, and called up the producers that are working with NR to change the band’s songs from urban-pop to Europop.

 After the PR team left Epic, Kimmy met up with them. She gave them a check for 1000 pounds.

 A few hours later, NR arrived at Epic to continue recording. When a producer, Matt Maxx, played a final demo version of a song called Go On, NR weren’t too happy with the music style.

 Edward said, “Erm, we wanted a more urban sound, not dance.”

 Matt replied, “Well, this is what you’re given.”

 Ashley said, “Can’t we change it? Our second CD won’t be out for months.”

 Matt said, “No, but you are taping Dare 2 Dream very soon. Plus, you must get a single out as soon as possible.”

 So the NR members reluctantly recorded Go On.

 After a few hours of recording several songs, NR were let out for a 30-minute break. As they went to the lobby, the PR team arrived. NR saw them.

 Alex whispered to Sophie, “God, are they always here or what?”

 Sophie replied, “Yea, I know.”

 “I wonder what f***ed up plan they came up with.”

 Charlie taunted, “Maybe to kick you out.”

 Alex ignored Charlie’s remark.

 The PR team met up with the producers of NR. One of the producers, Calvin, said sharply, “If you want Alex out, forget it.”

 One of the PR people said, “That would be nice, but that’s not what we’re here for.”

 Another PR member said, “We want Ashley and Edward’s role on the second CD reduced greatly.”

 Calvin said, “But they’re the lead singers of No Rules.”

 A different member said sternly, “Do as we say or all of you are fired!”

 At the same time, Charlie overheard everything. He approached the PR team with a suggestion, “I heard you told our producers to reduce Ashley and Edward’s role on the second CD, yeah?”

 One of the PR members asked in an irritated tone, “What do you want?”

 “Instead of reducing Edward’s role on the CD, reduce Alex’s role instead.”

 One of them said, “But he’s not a lead…hmm, not a bad idea, though.”

 With that, Charlie evilly grinned.
