CHAPTER 8. (Intro)
"Hey! Bro, wake up." I heard a voice called while shaking me. My eyes flicker opened and I saw it was AVIVA my little sister. I turned my head to the other side, ignoring her trying to sleep again.
"Hey! Wake up you sleepy ass." She bawled but I was too sleepy to play. "Uh! C'mon Zack it's Sunday, today." She whined, yanking my blanket.
"I know it's Sunday, Now don't disturb me."
"How can you sleep on such a Big day?We are-"
"God, Shut up Avi! I'm trying to sleep here, Now get out!" I groaned hoping she wouldn't haunt me again and leave.
"No! You promised me that you will take me out today." I opened my eyes putting lil emphasis on my mind to recall about it but that was a hard-won. She might have observed that I was actually missed-out that.
"How could you forget that Zack?" I glanced at her and sure enough disappointment was clearly visible on her face. She huffed and plopped down on my bed.
"We were going to go, Amazement park today and also you're going to buy me Ice-Cream." She stated giving me a knowing stare and I just nodded in
defeat looking around for my phone to see the time.
"Yeah! I remember that but why didn't you choose to go with those kiddos..... I mean those friends of yours." I tried to be reasonable with her but she only looked at me like seriously bro! I continued ignoring her look. "Ok! I didn't take it actually solemnly that time, but I think it will be more fun with them since you actually need to stop acting like a dude, you know." I suggested but it was sensible she would dismiss it.
Basically Aviva was more tomboyish than girly in nature. Mom was more worried about her being like this, and in the most wise way to think it was actually dangerous for her. She didn't exhibit it but, Yet there was still a distinct side which relatively showed her worry. Dad thought there was nothing to worry about her safety just because she was a little different but as for mom, it was a most typical way to survive. And here came mom's reliable prediction to pass down her valuable-things which surely was a high-blessing to her but sadly it went wrong. And that was enough for Aviva to think that our parents were from some royal family.
"Ha! Says the one who actually needs to get his ass out of bed and act like a mature person." She rolled her eyes, completely mocking me.
"Yeah! Sure."
"Well... to answer that, I practiced once but found out I was Allergic to it." She said, brushing her back of neck hiding her nervousness.
"Well, the joke itself wasn't so hilarious." I mocked back and she rolled her eyes.
"Not that you wanted it to be." She responded with a duh tone. "So, Don't worry about it! Now let's go." She ordered and I stared at her for a few seconds before turning to the other side of the bed and covered my head with a pillow, wanting to go back to sleep.
'God! Why is she so damn annoying....?'
"Hey! Don't be an indolent man, c'mon Zack, get up." She roared, removing the pillow from my head but I didn't budge. She had already ruined about 10 minutes of my sleep. It sucked specially when she didn't give a fuck to Anyone but promises. And things started to get clingy and not so normal but filmy.
"Ok! So you won't go today?" She asked, getting up from bed and I hummed thinking she'll leave my room.
"I think I should let you know my dear brother." She spoke the last word bitterly but her voice was coming far from my bed. "If you really are not getting out of your bed, then I might have to throw away this handy device of your's."
She said pointing towards the balcony and turned my head towards her. She was smiling ear to ear showing me something black shiny. It took me a few seconds to recognize it. "That's my phone!" I shouted in horror.
"Exactly!" She cheered as if it was a nice thing.
"Now get up before I drop it down from the Balcony, brother." She warned and I gave her my best death glare which off course was less effective on her to say.
An Idea hit me and I smirked which snatched her smirk. "Go Ahead and Drop it, I dare you but if you did that, forget about us going out today and me also revealing our dear secret of you breaking mom's favorite tea cup and putting the blame on poor Lucy." Aviva's jaw dropped in shock and I reluctantly nodded. She was actually smart but couldn't beat me there. I found myself smiling at that and she just stared at me with eyes wide open.
"And I won't be responsible for this." I added acting obviously, Although I didn't mean it like that and she surely did assume that I wasn't going to spend my time on something worthless.
"What? No!" She shouted and I just leaned back against the headboard waiting for her reaction. Eventually I did nothing but just found a hint to scare her a little. She was all confident a few minutes ago but now all worried. She paused for a moment thinking deeply.
"Ok Fine!" She said in defeat, giving my phone back, obviously feeling pitiful. I chuckled at her annoyance as she shot me a glare in return.
"You are the worst brother I could ever ask for Zack." She shouted and I shot her a bright smile.
"That's funny, I think the same sister." I simply said but that wasn't the full truth. Even though she was such a headache sometimes, but I couldn't consider that a real problem. That was also regarding my parents sometimes. She certainly didn't quit that easily but I was surprised for leaving no chance for her to come-back this time.
"Make sure to close the Door." I stated yawning before going back to sleep. It was funny to even think I would get over this without bursting into laughter. It was the best moment to tell.
She walked out of the room and was closing the door but suddenly stopped looking in deep thought then came back inside again standing close to my bed giving a bright smile.
"Actually not!" She said giving me a smug smile which I didn't want to know. "You know I can't let that happen brother." She said calmly and I blinked.
'What the Fuck!' She was supposed to be walked out and fucking leave me alone. Well I wasn't expecting any blarney from her to keep the matter closed either.
"So, I would prefer that you better get out of the bed before I call mom up here." She blurted out and I was still figuring out what she just said.
"You really think it's a nice move, You might reg-." I blurted out but she cut me.
"No! I won't."
"Because as far as I know my brother, he always sticks to his promises and would not do anything to upset me, besides...." She trained off taking a moment glancing at me.
"I have told mom about it, so you have to compel me Zack otherwise she will be livid hearing that you have cancelled the plan just for your sleep." She stated.
'Did she just threaten me?'
I eyed her and as if sensing my thoughts she continued, correcting herself. "You don't want to make her angry, right? Now it's up to you, dear brother." She said, making a sad face. Of course! How did I think she just wouldn't come up with something so dreadful for me? She just probably appeared to give a zero damn about others. And now it wasn't hard to know that I was in deep shit.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath recalling her words. She could really do anything to mess up things for people.
'God! Why did I promise to take her to the damn park?'
"Avi, try to understand. I admit that I promised you but not today, we will go some other day, pro-" I tried to make her drop the topic but she cut me off.
"OK, FINE! DON'T GO!" She snapped stomping towards the door with an angry face but insisted of closing the door, she stood near the gallery and shouted.
"MOM!"
She looked back at me and I just realized she was being completely serious. I immediately jumped out of the bed, ran to her and covered her mouth to shut her.
"Zack said he doesn't want to-"
Without wasting a second I held her hand, dragging her back inside the room. I looked at her in complete shock. Not to oppose her boldness but I honestly didn't want mom to come here and start my day with her Lecture.
She deplored my sudden action and was struggling against me so I did back-down which was the only chosen optimum I thought. "Okay! Okay! FINE! I'M UP!"
I shouted to make her calm down and listen. She blinked a few times hitting on it, slapping my hand from her mouth, she shot me a glare.
She surely had a super sharp mind to cooperate with situations and smacking riposte- literally for mom but not me. As I never bothered to show off mine because that was perpetual and she knew it better. But I wasn't going to bail on the idea anymore and make the situation worse than it already was and I was also going to do myself a favor by bearing that in mind.
She had a judgmental look and was Staring at me warily demanding for a suitable answer when I didn't carry on. I huffed and walked towards my bed and her eyes followed me frowning, skeptically.
"Aviva you see, I'm up now! Go and get ready, we will leave in half an hour." I spoke, putting a t-shirt on without turning around, giving her a retort.
Even though she really was getting my goat and I wish I could become a witch and get her to write a whole goosebumps book, just like Nightbooks movie so she never dares aggravate me. But as much I hate to admit that she was right. I couldn't disappoint her and...
'What's the point of being a star for others where I'm upsetting my own sister?'
When I didn't get any response I turned around and saw her standing there completely startled.
"What?"
"Are you....sure?" She asked and I frowned at her not expecting this question which was surprising so I nodded in response.
"I can't believe you just agreed, Zack. WOW! I just browbeaten my brother?" She remarked sourly, looking too enticed by the idea. I frowned at her confidence.
"Are you done?" I questioned but with a blank face. I had already concluded it as comical before, but now I was being completely serious and yet she was still playing a judgmental game here.
"No!" She bellowed, causing me to raise my brows. There was a hint of fear on her face that was clearly visible. She was giving me a dicey situation view, which I didn't fetch first, but then I got the drift. Although Her eyes were looking pitiful telling of her reversion, so I signed and ensured her by giving a nod fake zipping my mouth.
"Really?"
'Yes, Avi! I promise, okay!" I told her as she was staring at me in disbelief. I was about to go to the bathroom but stopped me by hugging me tightly.
"OMG! THANKU!"
She cheered brightly and packed my cheeks after breaking the hug, I just chuckled. I knew she wanted me to keep our secret to us, well I could still use it against her anytime but she always seemed to strike me everytime and it was not the right time either. So maybe I should just go with the flow for now, it won't be too difficult. I didn't normally back down so easily but we both plus Dad knew there was no other way to escape my mom's anger.
"Well....Did I just hear it Right, whatever u said brother?" She asked dramatically, splitting fake amusement.
'Yes! Of course!'
That was my first blank expression after listening to it, which wasn't amusing. But I thought I had already asserted that. If it wasn't for mom's scolding in the morning I would have kicked her out of my room and would have brought it to light for ruining my peaceful morning.
"Aviva, I answered you Already." I groaned, tiredly looking at her, didn't wanna argue about it. "And stop Overreacting." I said in annoyance she scoffed barely considering it and here I was so tedious of it.
"Hmm! Just confirming that." She stated scoffing, making me roll my eyes.
"Anyway, Thanku! very much Zack. You're such a great brother." She again thanked me which I didn't complain but that was something really far to admit of her looking traumatized today. And of course! I dismissed the intrusive thought for now but In Future I wouldn't grant her absolution as a great brother.
"Well....I won't argue with that." I agreed and she looked at me suspiciously.
"Really! Why do I feel like you're lying?"
"Maybe I'm, maybe I'm not." I said smirking, giving her a hidden clue as she was looking really overjoyed at the misconception of her effortless trick.
"Geez, you're such a weirdo." She muttered rolling her eyes but then smiled at me before turning around and walking out finally. I watched her leaving my room as silence filled in. I really came to think that she would actually oblige me but that was an understatement of mine.
*****
I freshened up and got ready, I did my hair and checked myself in the mirror before leaving the room.
(Zack's Outfit)
I wore my smart watch before checking the time it was 9:47AM, half way down the stairs.
As I was making my way towards the dining room I saw Oprah our house maid, who was putting new flowers in a vase.
I stopped and looked at her in a daze.
'Why's she here?'
As she was watering the plants, I was still trying to take in her sudden appearance. Apparently, I was confused because she showed up on her day off.
"Good Morning Zack dear." She spoke after several minutes of silence sensing my presence.
"Um! Good Morning Oprah, How are you doing today?" I asked, still surprised because mom told me Oprah will not come to work for a few days as she wasn't feeling well. Also, her son's birthday was imminent, so she will spend some time with her son as he was in a boarding school and they rarely met.
"Oh! I'm feeling much better now dear, that's why I chose to come to work today. Now go and have your breakfast, Mr. And Mrs Williams are waiting for you at the dining table." She said and I nodded as she continued doing her work. I think she loved her work because she joined the work soon after getting better even when she had a good excuse not to come. Mom told me she's been working here before I wasn't even born.
I entered the Dining room where my dad was sitting on the head chair and mom was sitting on his left and Avi beside her and was talking about something.
"Good Morning Mom&Dad!" I greeted before occupying a seat to the right of dad.
"Morning son - sweetie!" They both greeted in unison as I poured myself orange juice.
"You are late sleepy ass." Aviva chimed in playing with her Breakfast and glaring at me.
"Avi-"
"Mom, pass me the ketchup please." I asked mom, completely ignoring her redhead.
"Sure! So what's the good news honey?" Mom asked and I gave dad a puzzled look as if she was asking dad or maybe it was about them but they all looked at me with a blank face.
At the moment I had a sudden urge to run away, knowing the conversation was going to be impartial but still had a little curiosity about that. So I signed as I was unable to act all courageous in this situation.
"Ok! umm so...1 I don't know what, this good news you're talking about but I would gladly wanna know." I paused and took a big bite of my French sandwich before continuing.
"And 2 I'm so sorry for screwing your plan but I would like to stay at Adi's place, if this good news is about some relationship party with your business partners." I said as that wasn't even a question yet it could be answered.
"Oh Zacky! Don't you think it's a good chance for you to make she friends? As you have been living under a small rock since that pizza accident." Aviva boomed and I glared at her while mom caught sight of our confidential talk and was trying to understand, what was it?
'Great!!'
She could have possibly filled her mouth with muffins but No! she had to bring that damn topic in front of our parents, especially mom.
I still didn't understand, how the hell did she know about it? Like it was just me and that barbie gurl there alone. Well I don't know if whatever happened there in the party was even an actuality.
Because all I remember was me enjoying the view of moonlight night with my drink alone in my dad's business partner's estate until a pretty girl in a sexy violet dress bumped into me and I dropped my drink on her dress but she didn't mind that and we started talking.
I don't remember much as I was drunk, then she said something to me giggling before we kissed, the kiss was so delightful but her breath was smelling like macaroni pizza which was fucking gross.
I tried to avoid that all as I could and kept the finest part of the moment as it was highly making a good exception for me but...
'You just can't randomly forget the paradox bullshit when you have a spy sister who can't leave you alone...'
"Oh! Believe me Romp nobody asked about your opinion, so shut up!" I told her calmly as I continued eating my food.
"See that's what you do every time I try to talk to you Nicely. God! I just can't see you fuming all the time like a ghost rider Zack, can't you be a little polite." She complained.
"I would be polite to anyone but you. Because you can't keep your piggy annoying nose out of my business." I complained back to her.
"Uh! Pardon me, I can't help but notice your Damnable business as I can't see you in trouble brother." She clarified, rolling her eyes pointing her fork at me.
"Yeah! Says the one who is always ready to pour troubled water on me. So don't trick me with smooth words."
"Really? How could you of all people think about me like that Zacky." She whined dramatically as if she didn't just mock me.
"I'm hurt." She blurted looking glum for a moment. 'Yeah and it's working on me...'
But still I wandered, It wasn't too long since she just threatened me right! As this kind of act was beneficial for her to gain the target every time.
"Well I would like to confirm again... that I do not care, so shut up!" I implied taking a bite of a sandwich as she threw a choco at me. I caught it easily before munching it. "I would rather be arrogant like bang bang."
"Uh! That's flimsy of you brother to think it's a fine statement." She spoke, rolling her eyes. Now this wasn't so chummy of her but not that I minded her ever.
"Oh! It's clearly relevant as you can't even hide your envy for me anyway." I smirked and an irritating look spread on her face.
"You Dingbat!-"
"ENOUGH!" Mom boomed at us slamming her fork on the table.
"What did I tell you about yelling and fighting while having a meal?" She asked, looking everyone at the table which was clouded by silence in rage.
'Well! My mom is indeed a nice lady but sometimes her austerity is enough to make the situation flick upside down and in that case, even dad can't convince her...'
So, this just gives you the idea of how I never wanted to become the reason for her anger.
"Sorry mom!" We both said looking down and she just glared at us.
"Gosh! I'm so...." She trailed off with frustration.
"This is the last Warning!...Or I'm gonna
throw both of your phones plus cutting your pocket money too for the whole month. Understand?" Mom announced with a warily as the warning was evident in her voice. Dad was smiling to himself luckily while Aviva and I were getting baleful looks from mom.
"I said, understand?"
"Yes mom!" We both said in unison.
"Good!" She said, still glaring at us as I silently stabbed my food thinking it as, my sister for ruining my Morning.
'So, Dear viewers! This morning show was powered by Aviva with the special partner Mr. George Williams. And now, here we say goodbye to my happy hours, bye-bye! Oh! And that's why I always avoid making her angry...'
"So Honey you were saying something right?" Mom said turning to dad and he just blink nervously as we all stared at him in anticipation.
"Was I?" Dad asked back and mom gave him a look. And Mia giggled slightly.
"Oh yeah! So you umm..." He trailed off and mom sighed with huff.
"So, suit yourself Captain Zack Williams, you need to maintain your stamina." Mom said after a long pause, completing dad's words while putting more cookie butter in my plate.
"FINALLY!!" She screamed suddenly making dad sprang in surprise and me and Aviva laughed.
At first I truly felt like this topic was either going to be about matching dad's business partner's daughters with me or How mom showed off her new shining jewels in front of the rest of the ladies which dad had bought for her. But mom disclosing this news, came as a shock to me. Although I couldn't discern it, as I was cautiously thinking about it.
"So you are going to be the captain this year for your football team, Right?" Dad asked dubiously, riveting my attention but still offered a smile when I nodded.
"Well, Congratulations Son! Could have heard about it sooner if you hadn't dropped the ball." He said as the judgment was flickering in his eyes.
He was still aggravated with me being careless about my game last year that I almost kicked out of the team for missing the practice for important matches.
"Oh c'mon George! It's a big day for my son, break the habit for now and let him have a whale of a time without spoiling it." Mom said, nudging him.
"Hmm, Hope you will be a good leader of your team and won't disappoint your coach." He referred, ignoring mom.
"Yes dad I won't repeat the same mistake again and will not disappoint anyone." I assured him with confidence.
"Oh Honey! My son has grown up so fast. See he has proved with his ability that he can be a good captain. My Perfect son." She bubbled up dramatically, wiping her fake tears.
"After all whose Son he is?" Dad remarked now looking at me proudly and I couldn't think of anything except getting perplexed. Well, It's not like I had never seen our Family show or dad being affable and pleasant but I found it hard to believe as he mostly comes down hard on me.
"It's big news not for him but for our family too." Dad stated ecstatically, looking at us.
"Oh yes I'm gonna tell my friends about this great news." Mom said smiling at me, which I gladly returned.
"So Let's cherish this moment, shall we?" Mom urged, looking at us as we nodded.
"Cheers!" Mom beamed and we all raised our glasses to cheer but Aviva didn't join us.
Our laughs died down and mom casted her confused look followed by us. "What's wrong, Honey?" Mom asked as Aviva just shrugged.
"You know that I'm also a part of this family but you guys never gave me such a great attention."
"Guess only Grandpa remembers me as Aviva Williams." She fake pouted and I just rolled my eyes.
'What an adorable drama queen...'
"Oh no sweetie, it's not like that. You know we love you equally and-" she cut off mom.
"Yeah right! But for your loss of information, I wanna tell you that I also Won 1st prize in 'Best handwriting in School' but it's not at all your concern Right Dad?" She finished with a frustrating tone looking at dad for comforting words.
"Oh someone is trying to emotionally blackmail her parents just to get my position. What a tiresome way to make your soul feel great?" I asked, faking disappointment, making her roll her eyes.
"Me taking your position? Aw it's just your recurring dream brother." She said, smirking, brushing off my glare.
"Oh look, I thought you're a tomboy who doesn't-" I spoke but mom's voice rang out, cutting in.
"Zack, Don't!" Mom warned before looking at Aviva smiling. "Uh I'm sorry sweetie I didn't realize that, I was just excited for your brother. Aren't you happy that only your brother got the captain position in the whole university?" Mom asked as Aviva nodded smiling at me.
"Well, I'm happy for him off course but not surprised." Aviva said, looking at mom, making us all baffled.
"He's my Perfect brother mom, I knew he would be the captain." She shrugged off the statement, grinning proudly at me and I nodded smiling, mouthing Thanku after she congratulated me. "Congrats zacky!"
"Umm, I think our lessons are really helping and leaving a positive impact on our children to grow and become
superior, right Emma?" Dad asked mom with eyes lit up.
"Yeah! Reacting with equanimity, becoming more resilient to face difficult situations and not to take advantage of their positions and power." Mom smiled agreeing with dad, reminding us of the familiar topic.
"I understand mom." Said Aviva looking down dolefully.
"It's ok sweetie, You know we love you and always will and I promise whatever you both are doing now or will do in future we will always support, feel proud of and will look after you always and I know you will never disappoint us." Mom said, smiling at us, simply daring us to slip away from this whole speech.
"So it doesn't doesn't matter what you are and your fame for the world? But, How humble you are to your loved ones." Dad explained, smiling slightly and even though I wasn't so fond of this regular topic but still I nodded and so did Aviva.
"Remember, Together and..." Mom said.
"And Always because we are a family." Aviva completed, smiling at us.
"Alright, I think we should get going, right Avi? So bye mom and Dad." I said and Aviva nodded, filling the last but big piece of muffin in her mouth.
"I can't believe he actually agreed. Anyway, Bye Mom, Bye Dad!" Aviva hugged them, grabbing her blue Adidas cap and I laughed walking towards the front door with her following me.
"Bye Sweetie! Enjoy there and have fun." Mom replied, waving at us.
