Chapter 5 - Disorientated

"Y/N!"

A soft melody swept through the air. A tranquil feeling surrounded him. It wrapped its arms around his very body, enough to suffocate him in its blessing.

The slow hums repeating back and fourth in a loop. Like an alarm that just wouldn't turn off.

"Y/N?"

A smile suddenly appeared on his lips. A bright and full one. A smile that he only ever reserved to those closest to him. His little circle of life.

"Wake up sleepy head."

Suddenly a loud thud reached his ears, causing the man to startle. He jumped up, only to find himself in a bed. Fresh clothes covering him, his black gear swapped out for civilian clothing.

It irked him.

In a way.

He wasn't built for that life.

"Come on, Y/N. You've got a mission to finish, it's not over just yet."

The voice finally broke through the invisible sound barrier separating them. Gasping, he looked to his right to see an older woman with red hair and freckles.

It couldn't be.

"Mum?"

She smiled, bringing her hand up to cup his cheek.

"Yes."

Y/N felt the corners of his eyes begin to sting with fresh tears. Welling them down, he reached over and wrapped her in a hug, breathing in hard at the contact. Gasping at the reunion.

He pulled back, staring wide eyes at her.

"How are you here? I've been looking all over for you-" He choked up. "For both of you."

"You were never sent there to find us." An older's man voice called out to him.

His father came into view, standing next to his mother. Before kneeling down to his level across him.

"How are you doing champ?" His father asked, a grin forming on his face as he pulled him in for another hug.

Laughing, more tears began to pull in his eyes. Y/N retreated and stared at them, his hands tucked at his sides.

"You're both here." Y/N said, his voice filled with hope. "I came for you."

The two older parents smiled. "We know. And we're grateful, we always will be."

"Always?" Y/N asked, feeling his emotions overcoming him.

They both nodded, both smiled piercing through Y/N's very soul. But something hit him.

An inkling of pain shot through his leg though. Causing him to grit his teeth from screaming in pain.

"What's happening?" Y/N asked, reaching down to remove the sheet of his bed cover, to find his leg bleeding. "What's happening?" He repeated, his vision almost blurring from the sting in his eyes.

"You're waking up." His mother told him sweetly, cupping both of his cheeks gently.

"You mean... this isn't real?" He felt a part of his heart breaking at that notion. They were still in the Hive. He was still inside, as well Matt, Spencer, the rest of the team...

Alice.

"I'm sorry champ." His father gave him a sympathetic smile, reaching up and gripping his son's shoulder tightly.

"But I don't know if I can go back." Y/N said in a whisper.

"What do you mean?" His father's expression turned to confusion.

"It's all gone wrong. It wasn't supposed to happen like this." Y/N shook his head desperately.

"Hardly anything goes the way we want it to." His mother reminded gently, rubbing her hand across his stubble and to his jaw.

"But I don't know if I can finish it. I've lost three of my friends. What if something happens to the rest of them because of me?"

"If anything happens to them." Y/N's mother said sweetly. "Then it's not your fault. You'll try your best, we know you will."

"I..." He didn't know what to say.

They were all counting on him. He was now in charge, it was up to him to get them all out alive, and he didn't even know if he could do that.

"Y/N?"

That voice again, it was coming from above him. Y/N looked up to see the light bulb of the room brighten every second the more his name sounded.

He turned to look at his parents again.

"What's happening?"

"You're waking up." His father reminded him. "You can't stay here forever."

'But I would like to...' A small voice in his head said.

"I can still find you." Y/N nodded, that same smile returning to his face. "I need to. That's why I came here in the first place."

"Yes." His mother said sombrely. "But it won't be reason for finishing your mission."

"What?" Y/N said, the ringing in his ears began to show themselves, and his name more loudly this time, yet he pressed it down. "But I'll find you, I know I can. And then we'll get out of here." He was convinced he could do it. Nothing could stop him, no matter how bad the situation was. He believed it all too well.

"Wake up." Instead of answering. That's all he heard.

"Wake up!" It got louder and louder. So much that he had to cover up his ears.

"Wake up!"

"Wake up!"

"Y/N!"

His ears stung more and more as smoke filled his vision, pain in his leg endured more and the light above him lit up like a Christmas tree.

Finally focusing on it, he closed his eyes and witnessed as they filled with stars... and then, complete whiteness.

"Y/N wake up!"

The first thing she noticed, was the sting in her eyes. Painfully brimming away her vision, blinking hard, flushing them away.

Then was the fact that she was staring up at the ceiling, groaning she lifted herself up.

Before letting out a fit of a cough, the smoke around her doing no wonders for them. Next thing she saw was fire, lots of it. Debris and wreckage covering up the room.

They were still in the Dinning Hall used to experiment on people.

Coughing some more, Alice brought her hand up to her to face to block it out, and got up from the ground, pulling herself up.

Suddenly, something collapsed next to her, one of the tanks that hadn't somehow exploded, lost its supports and fell down, crushing zombies in its wake.

But also blocking off the path to the others, the team.

J.D had royally fucked up.

'The team.'

It was then she realised who she was with. Her eyes widened, and began looking around frantically, calling out their names.

"I'm over here!"

It was Matt.

She rushed over to the source and found a piece of the debris weighing him down.

"I need your help getting this off." Matt gritted his teeth. "On three?"

Alice nodded, grabbing at the metal piece covering him up.

"One. Two. Three!" The two pushed with all their weight, using whatever strength they had to push it off, stopping again when it came too much. "Okay again. One. Two. Three!" They pushed again, heavier this time and managed to dislodge it.

A groan of relief left Matt's lips as Alice pulled him to his feet. "Thank you." He said to her.

"Have you seen Y/N?" Alice asked him, turning around to make sure no zombies were around. None, thankfully, that debris field had blocked them off, but bad news Rain and the others would probably have to deal with then.

"Who?"

"L/N." Alice clarified. He hadn't heard his first name being used before.

"No, no, I haven't." Matt shook his head, before looking around.

The two began to search the destroyed area of the room. There was about a quarter of space. A hallway leading out somewhere, everything else was cut off.

Panic began to rise in Alice, rushing around to find him, her heart began to beat faster. She was fearing the worst for him.

"Y/N!" She shouted out to him but she got no reply. Matt tried the yet he received the same.

Panting hard, Alice stopped and breathed in a few times, her hands reaching down to cup the length of her dress to regain her strength.

Suddenly a thump sounded, as if something had just fallen over. Immediately Alice's head reacted, lifting up faster than ever before. Her eyes wide. She rushed over to the source of the sound. Carefully pushing past broken glass and wreckage. Until she made it over to a sort of a made up cove. Created by scrap and metal.

From outside she could make out the familiar red phenix tattoo, black uniform... and unmistakable view of blood trailing from the floor up to the wreckage.

"Matt! Over here!" Alice shouted as she began to pull off the scrap and pick him out. Gritting her teeth hard, she yanked a rather large piece off. Before Matt came rushing over, his eyes showing concern just as her.

"Holy shit." He began to help her. Luckily there wasn't too much covering him. His face and airways had been clear of any so he hadn't suffocated, yet his legs and chest were covered.

They managed to removed the metal off his legs fast enough, before Alice noticed the wet patch of blood more now. She looked down at his leg and saw a small piece of shrapnel was lodged in his left leg.

'Shit.' She thought as she began removing the rest of the scrap off his body. It wasn't bleeding much now, but it would be a problem later.

Finally removing the rest of the metal. They got a better look at him. His hair was tousled, smoke covered him head to toe. Alice reached down and wiped his face clean with her hands, as Matt checked his pulse at the side of his neck.

"He's not breathing." Matt exhaled sharply, looking him over.

"What?" Alice looked over to Matt, her eyes stung from the smoke but not the tears. "Then we need to wake him up."

'CPR.'

Alice sprung into action, taking a knife out of the man's side holster and cutting the vest lose. Revealing a black shirt, she began chest compressions.

'One. Two. Three.'

She pressed down on his chest with both hands, matching the movement with her numbers. Timing it right as she tried to wake him.

While Matt checked to make sure his airways were clear.

They were, luckily.

'Some of the smoke must of entered his lungs in the blast. Knocking him down. The scrap and debris didn't help. Come on Y/N!'

Alice continued, her hands beginning to sweat, nervousness taking over her. Matt made sure to keep his eyes out for anything.

"He's not waking up." Alice said, more to herself. "Come on, wake up!" She said more loudly as she punched her fist down into his chest where to elevate it. "Wake up!"

Seeing the struggle, Matt looked at Alice, her body was shaking. "Alice, I don't think-"

"Don't say that." Alice muttered back, as her hands continued to thumb at his chest.

Seeing it not work.

Alice moved over to his face and cupped his cheeks, before planting her lips across his, and passing her air through his airwaves. Giving him any air he needed, before pulling back again and continuing the chest compressions.

"Come on! Wake up!" Alice shouted again, her eyes beginning to sting more, but not from the smoke, but the tears she didn't even know she were forming around her eyes.

"Please?" She reached up and breathed her air into him again, her lips touching with more force this time. Anything to help, she was desperate.

"Alice." Matt carefully grabbed her from behind and tried pulling back.

"No." She said back, her voice low and hoarse, getting out his grip. "He'll make it, I know he will." She reached out again. "I won't give up."

Matt made to grab her again but stopped when Alice slammed her fist down harder on the soldier's chest. This time with more force than she had ever used, in a last desperate charge.

"Y/N wake up!"

Immediately Y/N shot up. Gasping harder and panting for breath. His eyes wide, shocked and pain filled. Taking in more breath, he looked towards his leg that pain engulfed him, that, and the bruises he'd be feeling tomorrow from the heavy weight of scrap that had fallen on him. He grimaced hard, bitting his tongue to stop a scream.

Matt had pulled Alice back in protection, so much that she was sprawled on the floor, her eyes wide, cheeks stained with tears as she gaped at the man before her.

Soon enough, his gaze turned to look at Alice, his blue eyes blinking hard and watery from the smoke around them.

"Alice?"

Immediately Alice got up and pulled him in for a tight hug, wrapping his arms around him like her life depended on it. Breathing in a great sigh, her head against his chest.

Y/N too breathed in, his chin almost touching her forehead. He looked up to see Matt, his eyes wide before breaking out in a small smile.

Alice soon pulled back, and looked him over. Checking him over, he looked alright for the most, except his leg and his body would be bruised, that she noticed had caused him a grimace.

Y/N looked at his leg carefully, accessing the damage, before looking back at the both of them.

"So what did I miss?"

"Thanks to your friend, the tanks blew up and sent us sprawling over here." Matt explained to him as they helped him up, gesturing to the destruction around them.

Y/N took a good look. He was right, it was a mess. Smoke, fire and debris covered the entire place.

'Fucking J.D!'

"Well, we gotta keep moving." Y/N nodded, reached down to grab his vest and grab any magazines for his sidearm that he could.

He had lost his rifle in the explosion and was only left with his knife, and Heckler & Koch P30 handgun. A couple of mags for it, fifteen rounds each.

"What about your leg?" Alice asked as she dried away any evident that tears had begun to flow through her. Before steading him with her arms, placing her hand on the small of his back.

"Not much we can do to fix it now, but I should be alright till we get out of here." Y/N paused, sucking in a deep breath to avoid the yelp that passed him as he put pressure on his leg.

"Did you find a way out of here?" He asked as he dumped the rest of the vest on the floor and quickly took the photo from it, before slipping it in his back pocket... along with his smokes.

"Yeah." Alice exhaled. "There's a hallway back there." She pointed over to the far end of the room where it was mostly clear.

"Alright." Y/N said, gripping his pistol in his right hand. "Let's get a move on." He took a step forward but found himself almost falling over. He had to limp it with only his right.

Taking a step with his right he moved forward, his pistol raised while Alice and Matt moved next to him.

"Do you want us to carry you?" Alice asked, genially concerned for him.

"I don't want to slow any of you down." Y/N said, coughing as more smoke reached them. Before they finally made it over to the hallway.

Cleaner air. Well, as much as possible till the complex sucks the rest of the smoke out.

Thankfully the door was open wide for them.

They stepped in, before Y/N turned and closed it, via the keypad, before resting his head against the wall.

"Are you sure?" Matt asked, just as concerned for the guy.

The man had grown on him, giving him his handcuff keys had helped it considerably. But the guys had helped them, he cared enough to protect them when the others like Rain and J.D took off on their own invitation.

"Like I said I don't want to s-" A painful groan left his lips as he tried to move forward but he found himself swaying into the wall. "Fuck!"

"Here." Alice wasn't taking no for answer. She took hold of his right arm, and lifted it around her next to support him. Before he could protest. While Matt got him from the left.

Y/N sighed. "Okay. But keep—"

"Keep your eyes out. We know." Alice smiled slightly as they moved forward. Letting Y/N grumble something under his breath.

They moved ahead through the hallway, passing by empty offices and paper littered the ground. Blood on the walls and red hands prints that definitely weren't paint.

Arriving at the end, they came to a junction. One led to a set of offices to the right. Where the one to the left led to some sort of lab.

Seeing this, Y/N looked back and fourth between the two, before turning to Matt, then to Alice. "We should split up."

"That's a terrible idea." Alice protested. "You can hardly walk, I- we, can't risk that."

"I'm not saying you both abandon me." Y/N said, softening at her concern for him. "One of you go to the offices and me and plus one goes to the lab."

Seeing the opportunity present itself. Matt jumped at the chance.

"I'll take the offices."

"You sure?" Y/N asked, wanting to make sure completely before afterwards.

"Yeah." Sighing, Y/N reached down and pulled his pistol out, before giving it to him. "You're giving me your... gun?"

"Yeah. Can't have you out there unarmed."

"But what about you two?"

Y/N looked back to Alice, studying her before returning to Matt's gaze. "There's two of us. Plus I've got my knife. We should be fine."

Matt nodded, and removed himself from Y/N, and took off down the hall, the gun in his hands.

Breathing in a sigh, Y/N turned to Alice, his eyes narrowed. "You ready?"

Alice looked up at him, her own eyes turning, hardening. There was no telling what they would find in there. But wordlessly, she nodded.

That was enough for him, and Y/N began limping forward, Alice supporting him up as they made their way down the hall to the lab.

Completely unaware of what they would find inside.

A/N: See you in the next one!
