Chapter 12 - The Great Escape: Part II
Y/N and Alice, the two genetically enchanted super soldiers, both moulded in such a way that made everyone else inferior, decided to take a leap of faith.
Leaping from the skyscraper, the two of them felt the wind around them pick up, their ears zinging with constant buzz, as their grapple wires kept them steady. Rushing down the collection of windows, eyes focused on the ground beneath them, they felt each step that clanged against the glass, and before long, they reached their target, and landed in a set of coordinated jumps that had their adversity ambushed.
The Umbrella soldiers guarding the chopper were surprised, as Y/N and Alice attacked. The two of them disconnected their grapple lines before they hit the ground, and used the momentum to kick at their target. They landed roughly, two soldiers taken down first, both their helmets shattering as Y/N and Alice's boots made contact.
Alice quickly grabbed her dropped grapple, using the mess rope she attacked an umbrella soldier, knocking his weapon from his hands before ending him with a quick succession of flurry strikes, fists and kicks, she repeated, crippling another two.
Behind her, Y/N rushed at his own set of soldiers, acting fast he grabbed the first enemy's rifle, pulling it up and away from his own body, and broke it in half, and then the soldier himself.
Throwing him aside without a care, he moved forward. Another umbrella soldier came rushing at Y/N with a baton, to which he took him down with ease. He grabbed the baton before it could strike him, and disarmed the grunt quickly, breaking his hand, and silencing his scream with his own weapon.
A few more grunts surrounded the chopper, prompting the two to go back to back. They immediately took action, disarming their opponents and relieving them of their weapons, and using them against them. Alice, used her agility, moving fast with her actions, disarming them, and smacking them down. While Y/N took them down with his strength, blocking and countering their strikes, he broke bones and faces alike.
With the last of her enemies finished, Alice moved towards the bay of the chopper, just as Y/N defeated his last soldier. They had pulled a knife, and Y/N with his quick moves, pulled the knife from their grip, snapping their wrist and slashed their throat, all while quickly turning towards Alice and throwing it.
Turning, Alice looked at the umbrella soldier that dropped dead, having gotten up from the floor to attack her. Now instead laid in a pool of their own blood, a knife wedged into the slit of their helmet. She looked back at Y/N, an eyebrow quirked.
"You missed one."
Y/N kept his smirk low, even as Alice smiled back at him like a cat, her green eyes dancing, even as the rest of the team came rushing into the square, towards the chopper. Carlos and Nikolai leading up the front, Jill and Terry guarding Angela, they hoped to escape Raccoon City.
They all did.
Y/N rushed to the bay of the black chinook umbrella helicopter, Alice right beside him, only for the both of them to freeze on the spot as their boots touched the metal bay. Their eyes focused on the content that marred the vehicle.
Medical equipment. Stretchers, drips, and a monitor that displayed a creature they had fought to Hell and back.
Alice felt the beginning of a flashback hit her, groaning as her eyes began to gloss, and her heart rate beat ever faster. Y/N, who until now, felt his hands clammy, and ears rush with blood, as the familiarity assaulted him to his core.
Visions, images, pictures of trauma that had buried itself in them both, attacked their central nervous system. For Alice, it was new, she could see the Nemesis, strapped to a table, herself beside, surrounded by doctors and white lights.
And the blonde bastard that was Dr. Issacs.
Smiling smugly, eyes laughing, and mouth taunting.
For Y/N, he was reliving a nightmare that was all too real, it made his mouth quiver, his nose sting with a smell of antiseptic and other meds, and he absolutely hated it all.
He imagined Alice did too.
"We have to hurry."
There was no mistaking the panic in her voice, there was no use disguising it, as her heart drummed in her chest more than ever, as she moved towards the cockpit.
"We're okay. We have time." Carlos reassured her, taking his stance outside, as he stared back at the two of them.
Y/N thought otherwise, as he shook his head, and felt a far off sense of fear that penetrated his mind, "No, she's right, we need to move - ASAP."
In the mist of the group, one LJ, Wade Jefferson, looked out past the steaming fog of Raccoon City, eyes focused on a single figure that came out of the mist like a beast of war, hell bent on their destruction, and exclaimed in his own stereotypical fashion that.
"Holy shit! We stealing his ride!"
If it wasn't for such a terrifyingly, downright paralysing fear that gripped him, then Y/N would've laughed.
Alice marched up to the cockpit, and took notice of the not so empty pilot's chair, and aimed her pistol. "Take off." She primed her pistol's barrel against the pilot's head, finger grasping against the trigger. "I said, take off!"
"What's the rush?"
Y/N turned, only to have a gun shoved in front of his face, surrounded by Umbrella soldiers, and an unmistaken smirking face of Major Cain back at them. Alice followed his gaze, only for her coil up, as her eyes focused on the guns aimed at Y/N and herself, and most of all, Major Cain's hands wrapped around Angela, his own pistol placed at the temple of the little girl's head.
"We've been expecting you."
—
"Perimeter secure."
"All sectors locked down."
"You've gotta be shitting me." Y/N muttered as they were escorted out of the chopper one by one. Umbrella forces controlled the site, an entire platoon's worth of grunts surrounded them, not to mention the Nemesis. "To think I used to work for these assholes."
The entire crew were on their knees, weapons taken, hands zip tied behind their backs, and all looking quite displeased. Y/N couldn't blame them, the feeling was mutual.
"Angie!"
Dr. Ashford was there too, strapped to his chair, hands binded, but putting on a strong face, even as his daughter came rushing towards him, tears in her eyes.
"Daddy!"
She hugged her father, holding him tightly and never letting go.
"I knew you wouldn't leave me."
Alice and Y/N were both separated from the main group, pulled off to the centre and stood before the Nemesis, as Major Cain spoke with an upmost authority.
"Discard primary weapon."
The two of them looked on baffled, and unsure, as the Nemesis dropped his belt fed machine gun to the ground, and lights around the three of them lit up for all to see. As if a temporary arena had been set up just for them, Y/N felt his teeth grind, and Alice's glaring eyes penetrate Major Cain, as the umbrella soldiers holding them back, released them.
"The three of you showed such promise, but we had to see you in action." Major Cain smiled, devilish and sneaking, a viper in human form, "And most impressive you've been. You're like siblings. Heightened speed, strength, agility, the same killer instincts. Parallel strands of research. And now... Now we'll discover which one of you is superior."
Y/N stared at him, eyes showing how much he really hated his guy, and Alice, if she was honest, felt the exact same way.
"Fight him."
"Two on one?" Y/N asked, shaking his head. "That's not exactly fair play, is it?"
Major Cain merely glared at his teasing, and repeated himself again, much louder this time.
"Fight. Him."
The only noise that followed was Y/N's low chuckle, and Alice's short cut response.
"No."
"Fight him, or they die."
Y/N shook his head, releasing a breath of air from his lips as the cold air surrounded them both. "What makes you think we care?"
Major Cain looked at him, eyes narrowing, he hadn't liked that, nor had he expected it. Sighing, he turned and raised his pistol, aiming at Dr. Ashford, and then pulled the trigger.
"Daddy! Daddy, no!!"
Dr. Ashford collapsed to the ground, a bullet in his chest, seemingly dead on the spot, as the group flinched.
"He was a valuable asset to the corporation." Major Cain explained, noticing the way Y/N and Alice glared his way, hands tightened and rage ready, a fight in them to be had. "I don't even care about these people." The two stared on, eyes to the ground at the doctor that had gotten them closer to their escape, now laid dead because of their inaction. "Begin."
The both of them stepped up, something in them snapping, a rage and volatile feeling fresh and new.
"You want a fight?" Y/N asked gruffly, fists tightened so hard he swore he heard them break, "I'll give you one!"
"Y/N!"
Y/N attacked first, ignoring the voice of Alice calling him, charging forward towards the Nemesis with a shoulder charge. He barrelled into his foe, causing the creature to slouch back, almost falling at the strength colliding against him. He punched the monster, he punched and punched, as the Nemesis failed to block in time, and another fist to the face that had the Nemesis collapsing to the floor, and he followed up with a flurry of punches.
"Fuck you! Fuck you! Fuck you!—"
"Raghhhh!"
Nemesis knocked Y/N over, kicking him out from his feet as he had prepared to attack again. Like a mountain against the very earth that stood its ground, he climbed to his feet and attempted to pummel Y/N's face in, but before he could, Alice came sliding in. She rushed him, arching into a slide and threw a kick at the creature's leg, causing it to stumble over, as Alice acted fast and pulled Y/N to his feet.
"Y/N, we fight him together."
Alice reeled him in, eyes searching his as the Nemesis collected himself, bashed and bruised, Y/N felt his own hands prickle with blood and damage. He turned to face her, his anger, his rage, something that was different to him. He was always so stoic, so in control, and yet here he was seething with anger like nothing he had ever felt before.
Still, he knew she was right, and trusted her.
"Together."
The two of them raised their fists, their legs beckoned into fighting stances, and their eyes focused on single target stood before them. They synced in a way never thought possibly, as their opponent pulled out a giant machete from his back, and attacked them, charging towards them.
All while the others watched with worry, contempt, and even Major Cain, as he peered with gleam.
Alice went first, rushing ahead she arced forward, body primed to the floor she slid under the hulking body of the Nemesis and planted a kick to his back leg, and swung another to his back as she got up, causing the monster to growl and squirm.
Seeing him distracted, Y/N attacked next, rushing towards him, heaving steps to the ground, he sucker punched him in the back as he had turned to face Alice. Following up with another attack, he punched him in abdomen hard, as hard as ever, and swore he heard bones splinter and crack, as the Nemesis roared in pain.
Immediately Nemesis went to back hand him as it did before in their last fight, but was stopped when Alice swung in to help, a baton picked up from the ground, she smacked his arm with the hard titanium core, the weapon breaking and splintering, before jamming it with force into his arm.
A whimpered roar left it's lips, as it swung wildly and knocked them from their positions, throwing them to the ground. It took that moment to pull out the baton, dark red blood coating it. Y/N saw it, eyes peering at it from his place on the ground, groaning as his body ached.
He had an idea.
Injury removed, the Nemesis marched over to the Alice, her form banged up and battered to the floor, she looked up only to catch the gaze of it looking down at her, and that machete in its hand, the gleaming metal swung, and Alice had only moments to gasp, her words choked before the blade stopped inches from her face.
A sigh left her lips in a millisecond, eyes brimmed with spots dancing back and fourth, she breathed in when she caught the bare hands that held back the blade.
"Agh."
Y/N grunted, the blading cutting into his hands as he held it back. Thanks to his powers, something he wished for not, was holding it back. Still, the machete bled into his skin, cutting flesh and yet his bones remained intact, even while the Nemesis pressed the attack.
"Alice now!"
Acting quick, Alice jumped to her feet and struck back, fists and boots flying at the Nemesis pushing him back, breaking his move against Y/N, he could feel the weight shift, and momentum gain for himself. Alice struck one last time and the creature gave way, stumbling back. Faster than ever, Y/N gripped the blade, despite the pain, and yanked it from its hands, and readied his new weapon.
"Y/N!"
Catching on, Y/N followed Alice's movement as she kicked the Nemesis forward with enough force that it went stumbling back against the metal pillars of the square, tangling up against the frame, allowing Y/N to finish the fight.
"Now!"
A shouted scream left his lips, full of pain, anger and mixed emotions that battered him, guiding the blade forward, he felt the weight that punctured through its body. Y/N didn't stop until it pierced through the Nemesis's hardened chest, jamming through, until it made contact with the frame behind.
The Nemesis let out it's own roar. Stuck against the pillar, it collapsed, heaving and breath laboured, it's ungodly dark eyes stared back at the two. Only for blue that had been thought gone, returned, the pain too much for its mind, awoke whatever remained.
And they felt it too.
Immediately images once against assaulted them, whether by the T-virus or whatever fucked up things Umbrella did to them, awakened Alice's memories to who she was staring at, and who was looking right back at her.
"Matt."
Y/N felt the air in his lungs evaporate, machete in his hands that had fuelled his anger, was left limp, as he let go of the blade. His mind caught up with his anger, and while he had made peace with it, he still felt something tug at his heart strings as the blue eyes of Matt Addison stared back at them.
"Finish him."
Major Cain's voice was a darkness that swept throughout the lone night, edging them to complete their battle. Just a mere trike away, moments before completion, they hesitated.
"I said, finish him."
Alice turned from the Nemesis, focused on Cain, her face far from passive and full of emotion, shaking her head she refused.
Y/N stared into the eyes of Nemesis, pity, anger, sadness, all of them charging inside that once stoic heart of his. How could he go on with this? No, he couldn't. No more...
"No."
Major Cain's face grimaced, and jaw slacked, staring hard at the former umbrella soldier.
"No?"
Y/N reached down and placed his hands on the larger handle of the machete that was latched into the body of their foe, Nemesis, staring back at him with eyes full and bright. He didn't know what he, or it, or Matt, was thinking. But he already knew what himself was thinking, and that was, it ended now.
"No."
He immediately yanked the blade and pulled it out from the Nemesis body, causing it to roar out in pain. Blade removed, he dropped it to the floor, and stepped back, and faced Major Cain in defiance.
"Don't you understand how important you both are?" Major Cain asked, noticing the Nemesis picking himself up, his movements sluggish and jarring. "That creature is one thing, but you... Somehow you both bonded with the T-virus on a cellular level. You adapted it, changed it. You became... magnificent."
Y/N glared, exclaiming as he did so, "Umbrella turned us into freaks."
"No." Cain chuckled, shaking his head. "You're not a mutation. You're evolution. With my help, just imagine what you can achieve."
Alice bit her lips, not believing him for a second. She gestured to the Nemesis, Matt, with a shake of her head, "What about him?"
"Evolution has its dead ends."
The Nemesis seemed to turn towards Major Cain at those words, something in him snapped like a slave undoing his chain. What was left of his eyes narrowed in, seemingly full of anger, but also control.
"Now, finish this. Put him out of his misery... and come with me."
Neither of them needed a moment to decide.
They had already made much up their minds long ago.
"No."
Major Cain sighed, "You're both such a disappointment to me. All that strength... but no will to use it." He chuckled humourlessly. "What a waste."
The major turned away and headed towards the chopper, a spring in his step as he hoped to get out before the nuke hit. His guards following after him, seemingly of the same mind.
"Prepare for take off."
The Nemesis roared and moved away from the two, his steps more heavily, creating cracks beneath him and bringing up concrete and dirt, a step of his own in those scarred and mutated legs of his.
"Sanitation of Raccoon City to commence on my mark."
In the back, Carlos was cutting his zip ties lose, attempting to escape and somehow get them all out of this. If only he had realised what was about to happen next.
"Kill them."
The Nemesis picked up his belt fed machine gun, grunting as he did, and took to sun at Y/N and Alice. The two of them braced themselves, eyes shut, Alice reached out and grabbed Y/N's hand, tightening it in her own. He squeezed back, accepting this was it, as his heart pounded in his chest, and gun fired in their direction.
Brrrt!
The guards surrounding dropped all around them, bullets whizzing past their heads and killing their captors. Y/N and Alice flinched, eyes opening, only to marvel at the sight of the Nemesis staring back at them with new found strength.
"What are you doing?!"
Alice saw a trio of guards rushing towards them and quickly moved. She rolled and grabbed a sidearm from one of the dead guards and fired upon, bullets cutting them down easily enough.
Y/N followed her plan and took the chance, rushing to the other dead guard, he slid into a sliding motion, not as gracious as Alice's, but it did the job. He grabbed the submachine gun off the corpse and aimed at the row of guards rushing at them. Red dot sight on target, he pulled the trigger and watched as they dropping, moving forward, he kept up a suppressing fire.
The group of civilians, broke free, Carlos and Nikolai taking the charge as they disarmed their guards and took their weapons, clearing the area around the chopper. Followed by Jill who pushed Terry down to cover, and shot an umbrella grunt taking shots at them.
"This is Cain. Priority overload. Initiate launch proceedings."
"Detonation set at T-minus 5 minutes."
The entire evac point was a war zone.
Umbrella soldiers were surrounding them, even as the group cut their numbers down, bullets whizzing past their heads and the Nenesis' machine gun's familiarity.
Major Cain wasn't sticking around for anything, as he marched back into the chopper and to the cockpit.
"Why haven't we taken off?" He demanded to the pilot, only to be surprised when he turned to the next seat and saw LJ staring back at him, and a punch followed that knocked him out cold.
"Because I usually drive a Cadillac."
—
"Shit." Y/N cursed, his gun running dry, he threw it aside and turned to the Nemesis, and gestured at his massive machine gun. "Hey, mind if I borrow that?"
"Raghhhh!"
The gun was dropped to the ground almost immediately and kicked over to his feet.
Y/N stared at the large gun in surprise, before looking back up at Nemesis, smiling, "Thanks."
"Rahhh!"
The hulking monster stormed off, charging at numerous Umbrella grunts, picking up one and throwing him through a glass window, killing him.
"Okay, c'mon baby, let's see how you do." Y/N said, picking up the machine gun. Despite its size, he handed it with ease and aimed towards the wave of soldiers attacking their position. "Eat this!" He pulled the trigger and let loose a barrage of death and destruction, a wave of extreme havoc following. The wave of grunts fell shortly after, blood and holes a piece between them like nothing he had ever seen that left Y/N saying one thing on his mind.
Y/N dropped the empty machine gun and moved ahead, focusing on the Umbrella troops in the immediate area as he noticed Alice pealing off to flank them. Turning towards the chopper, he rushed to the spot of the group.
"Jill, Terry, get on the chopper, quick." Y/N ordered them as he joined them, taking cover from the gunfire.
"Don't need to tell me twice."
He took note Angie, the girl at her father's side, mourning his loss. "Angie, we need to go, now, I'm sorry."
Angela looked up at him, her eyes set and strong, she took one more look at her father, before reaching down and grabbing something from the man's pockets, and quickly giving it to Y/N. He watched as Terry guided her into the chopper, confusion marring his face as he looked down at what he assumed was a data pad.
Shaking out of it, he pocketed it, and turned to the two squad mates, and joined them in the fight. "Contact left." He grabbed a sidearm from the dead guard at his feet and fired at more troops, gunning them down.
"Nice of you to join us." Nikolai said as he too fired. It seemed like there was no end to them, the troops pushed on them like a swarm of ants.
"Contact right!" Carlos warned.
Y/N followed his gaze, and noticed three more troops heading to them. It seemed they were starting to thin out, but some were still left. He bared his pistol and pulled the trigger, only for it to click empty. "Fuck."
The umbrella troops pushed to open fire on them but was suddenly cut down in a wave of gunfire from above. Flinching, Y/N moved out from cover and caught the site of a little bird chopper flying over head. A man at the helm of the seating, firing down below with a sniper rifle.
Y/N knew who it was.
Turning back to the task at hand, he discarded his confusion and instead grabbed ammo from the dead corpses, and fired at the last of the troops. Once the last soldier fell, his gun clicked empty and he threw it away, and quickly made to the vehicle.
"Get on the chopper!"
Though he stopped at the base of the ramp when he didn't catch the familiar sense of his partner, and Carlos asked the obvious.
"Where's Alice?"
—
Frantically rushing through the inner part of the square, glass windows shattering around her cutting her deeply, Alice brought herself to a stop when the helicopters bared down on her.
"Drop your weapons and surrender!"
Immediately she pulled her sidearm up snd fired at one of the choppers, the nine millimetre bullets shattered through the glass cockpit window but failed to kill the pilot. The helicopter itself primed to open fire on her, but was suddenly blind sided when the Nemesis put himself between Alice, an RPG in his hands, and fired.
"Oh fuck—"
The chopper exploded in a fiery explosion, causing it to crash and collide with its partner. The two helicopters wrangled up and crashed straight towards the Nemesis, roaring as it did so, and flattened it. Alice only had a second to witness it before debris from the wreckage went flying in her direction, knocking her down.
In the distance, outside the square, infected zombies were breaking into the area. Glass panes and doors were shattered, the undead wave charging in with the intent to feed on the living, as all the hell broke lose.
"Agh...." Alice spurred, eyes flickering, cheek cut and face bruised. Her breath was heavy, as the debris weighed her down. She attempted to move it off of her, but found herself failing. Still, she pushed on, pushing the wreckage covering, a groan leaving her lips. "Fuck."
Alice pushed again, harder this time and debris moved, and she could finally breath better. Moving again, she placed her hands against the burning steel and went to push, only for the whole thing to be hefted off of her small frame. Looking up, she breathed out when Y/N appeared in her vision.
"C'mon, I've got you." Y/N grabbed her gently and lifted her up, arms wrapped around her frame, she leant on his body grateful for the support. If it wasn't for the situation, she'd call out the irony of their switched positions from the Hive. "You good?"
Alice nodded, her gaze on the Nemesis' dead body, feeling a slight guilt overwhelm her, before picking up and letting Y/N guide her forward. "I'm good."
The two of them made it to the chopper, stumbling in as the roguish cop Jill Valentine had Major Cain at gunpoint, dragging him to his feet. "Get up!"
"If you expect me to beg, I will not."
Y/N let go of Alice once they got into the bay, and the woman found herself with renewed strength. Grabbing Major Cain, she dragged him to the edge of the chopper.
"Wait!"
There was something sickly sweet about the fear in the man's eyes.
"Killing me wont put things right."
Y/N came up behind Alice as the chopper began its lift off, ascending into the air. Arms crossed, face hardened, he couldn't help but chuckle darkly as the words left his lips.
"Who said anything about making it right?"
With a forceful strength, Alice threw Major Cain from the helicopter, and watched as he fell to the floor, his ankle breaking at the force used. Cowardly screaming, and full of fear, he looked up at the zombie horde that broke into the square. He tried to fight off the undead, firing a dozen rounds from his sidearm, and killing a few. But it was final, and he knew that, too.
He placed the gun to his head, and fired, and yet, it clicked empty. Fear, panic, nothing could compare, as the good doctor Ashford's reanimated corpse crawled onto him, bitting and attacking his very body.
Turning away, Y/N wasn't going to watch the slaughter. He looked up and peered around into the sky as the chopper flew, and noticed the same little bird helicopter flying off further than them, hoping to get away from the nuke.
A question for another time, he reached into his pocket and pulled out the data pad Angela had given him. If he had to guess, it was the data Dr. Ashford had promised him. Starting it up, he pressed the touch screen and it lit up.
And yet, there was only two files.
Y/N unlocked it, and skimmed through the files, only for his eyes to widen, and his stomach churn with a sickness he had never felt before. His blood ran cold, his hands pooled out sweet and his ears drowned out all noise.
"It can't be..."
Alice, who until now, was comforting Angela, looked up to face Y/N, having heard his voice. Her eyebrows quirked up, face married with confusion at the look on his face she had only seen once.
Utter, absolute, confusion.
"What is it?" Alice asked softly, up from her seat, she stood beside him, the situation around them forgotten.
"It's..." Y/N trailed off, his words choking up in his throat, data pad dropping to the floor of the chopper, "It can't be right—"
BOOM!
The entire chopper shook apart, and the two partners shielded their eyes as the nuclear device Umbrella had promised for Raccoon City detonated in the distance, destroying everything and anything in the mile radius.
"Holy shit."
The two of them quickly got to their seats and buckled up, the nuclear blast was fast on their heels. And in no time did the wave hit them, knocking the helicopter out of the sky.
"HANG ON TO SOMETHING!—"
The chopper was immediately thrown off course, sent crashing outside the city limits, and away from the blast zone.
And the last thing they ever saw... was Raccoon City engulfed in a fire of untold destruction...
A/N :)
