Epilogue: Thanksgiving
I saw him round up the corner of our bedroom and I gave him a smile that he could see through the mirror as I was putting on the finishing touches on my makeup.
Jasper walked up to me and wrapped his arms around my waist, setting his head on my shoulder and giving my neck a little kiss, making me instinctively crane my neck to the other side to him more access.
He still have that same effect on me.
When I felt him smirk, I suddenly realized what was happening and I turned, giving him a dry look. He flashed me an innocent look with that playful grin, "What?"
Oh I'm not falling for that again.
"We're already running late as it is," I muttered, going around him to get my purse. He didn't seem to like my statement though with the reaction he gave. He placed on a childish pout, making me let out a slight giggle. I approached him and kissed his cheek, before giving his chest a little pat, "Now come on."
"They wouldn't notice a few minutes," he tried once again but I shook my head, nudging my head to the door.
I do feel sorry for the poor boy, but he already had his fair share of fun, and besides, we were going to be late if we even drag around for even a minute. You would think that it was only Thanksgiving, nothing too fret about.
But if you were to dine in a very fancy set up with your brother's classy in-laws, you wouldn't want to risk it. Besides, I'm already dying to see my family again and this time, even Jasper's side was invited to join us. Also, with a few coaxing, Tristan and Kyla were also invited so this meant that it was going to be a full house tonight.
Let's be honest though, their house is big enough to host a freaking carnival.
Begrudgingly, Jasper got the car keys and followed me outside into the cold autumnal temperature. Thankfully, we were at our main house instead of the apartment we got at the neighboring city.
Jasper was so kind enough to grant me that apartment, it cut my commute to work by an hour. After graduation, Drew took me under his wing and got me a job at one of Celeste's companies. It wasn't that far that I had to really move out, but the distance was already a hassle for me.
And so, after two months of seeing how difficult it was for me, he surprised me with an apartment. It was small, but it did its purpose. Jasper didn't really care that much since he was always off during the days with training with his team, and I always proudly state to everyone that my husband was a player in the major league.
At weekdays, we stay there and on the weekends, we come back here. We were thinking of really buying a bigger apartment, but I made him pause with that idea of reasons.
Reasons which I'm going to tell him pretty soon.
When were on the drive to the house, I felt his hand on my thigh, his palm facing up and I already knew what he wanted. Placing my hand in his, I watched him smile as his eyes were focused on road ahead.
In the end, we didn't grow past this part of our relationship and I'm perfectly fine with it.
The memory of our wedding was still engraved in my mind. On the day after my graduation, Jasper took me out to celebrate and at the very end of the evening, he got down on one in front of the whole restaurant we were eating at and popped the question.
Since his sister was a wedding planner, everything went without a hitch. It took us about six months to get everything down and on that special day, we kissed at the altar in front of all our friends and family.
So now I lovingly wear three rings on my finger. One is the promise ring he gave me just after we finished high school, the second is our engagement party, and the last one is the wedding ring. A simple gold band that was identical to Jasper's.
When we arrived at their home, it was no surprise that there was an abundance of cars in the lot. From the looks of it, it seemed like the guests were up to their standards.
The house was like an epitome of what a modern mansion was supposed to look. From the art displayed all around to the open concept of the interior designs, you could already tell the people living in here were well off.
Yet, it had that warm and welcoming feeling that you would like. When we stepped inside the foyer area, a maid approached us and offered to take out jackets and coats before she ushered us to the living room that was already packed with people.
There was a corner where my brother and his wife stood, surround by their friends as they laughed goodheartedly at whatever they were talking about, at another side were the two house owners, making up a conversations with some other guests, when you switch your view to the other end, we can see the Everett's making a happy conversation with the Dean's, and a few more groups just chatting away as we all waited for the food.
Please, even the children have their own circle, and including them are my eight years old nephew and my six years old niece.
"Look who finally decided to show up," we heard my best friend's familiar voice say as we saw her walk to us with Tristan following right behind her.
Nine years of dating, and the question has yet to pop between these two. Kyla is waiting, she had told me multiple times, but she's also trying to be patient with Tristan. Though, it's kind of hard to keep my mouth shut about Tristan's plans to propose on her birthday. You could imagine my glee when he called me up to help him with the plans and to distract her.
Even after years, the dynamics of our friendship never changed.
"Hey," Jasper perked up, giving Kyla a small squeeze before he did that guy-hug thing with Tristan, "It's been so long since we've seen you two."
"Everything has been so busy," they laughed and we nodded in agreement.
Kyla looped her arm around mine and gave me that all-knowing grin, making me laugh. She turned to our partners and excused us, "We're just going to have a little catch-up talk."
When they said they didn't mind, Kyla quickly pulled me away from their earshot, "Did you tell him yet?"
"No," I answered, "And what's with the rushing?"
"Please," she snorted, "Even his sister found out before he did."
My gaze then switched to Macy who had been part of the Everett-Dean circle with her fiancé completely all over her. Right after I called Kyla, I called up my mom and she, being very good friends with my mother-in-law told her straight and consequently, it led to her big mouth to spill the information right in front of Macy.
Thankfully, I was able to beg them to keep it a secret until I told Jasper.
"At least you're already married," I heard her mumble.
"Kyla..." I groaned, showing my disapproval.
I saw her face fell and she started to play with the ends of her curled hair, "I know that he doesn't need to give me a ring, but when you and Jasper got married, I thought that he would finally ask."
Giving her a hug, I did feel bad, but I also know the happiness that was about to come. She only has to be a little more patient and she'll her wish.
She's a simple girl and she rarely asks for anything.
"So how are you and Jasper?" she asked casually.
Just as I was about to answer her question, a maid approached us with a tray of champagne. Kyla gratefully took one and as I was about to reach for a glass, she swatted my hand away, "Thank you."
He curtly bowed before moving on to serve the other guests. I pouted at her direction and she wagged her finger, "I'm only looking out for you."
Well, I do thank her for being the voice of control when god knows that I'm lacking it.
"I think I need to buy him a leash," I joked, reminiscing the happenings before we left.
She laughed at this before commenting, "Come on, he loves you."
"I know," I smiled.
I'm not going to be one of those girls who even though the guy gives her the world, will show every bit of insecurity she can. I may have been like that when I was a teenager, but something I've realize battling out a long-distance relationship for four years is that if we were able to survive everything, we were for the long run.
He loves me and I love him, what else is there to it?
"Everyone," one of the servers announced, "Dinner is served."
We all piled up into the dining room. First, I thought that there's no way we could all fit in there, but boy was I wrong. I just saw the longest dining table that could possible fit in the room. The center was filled with the deliciousness of traditional Thanksgiving delights and each chair was perfectly set up for the guests.
You would think that you were dining in a fancy restaurant, but nope, you're just inside a home.
A maid was circling around, filling up the glasses of the adults with a delectable red wine. When she reached to me, I heard Kyla clear her throat loudly from her spot across from me and gave me a warning look.
With a sigh, I declined the wine and Jasper raised a brow, "What's wrong?"
"Why?" I questioned.
"My wife just turn down some wine?" he quipped, "Are you sick?"
"Very funny," I said sarcastically, "But I'm really not in the mood for it."
Lie.
Celeste's father tapped his glass with his knife to signal our attention and he started saying a very long speech about how he was glad that everybody was gathered today.
You know, the usual stuff.
I leaned my head on Jasper's shoulder, making me look down on me, "Alright?"
"Alright," I answered. My comfort word, something we haven't exchanged for quite some time now.
I felt him slip an arm around my waist and I felt myself relax. Even though it was still early, I found myself getting tired more easily.
When the man finished his speech, Celeste then stood, "Well, just like what my father said, I'm so glad that everyone is here."
My attention shift to her and I sat upright once again as she continued, "And since this event is all about giving thanks to the blessings we've acquired, I think my sister-in-law would want to announce this new blessing she has."
My eyes widened in realization of what she said. When I talked to her on the phone about jokingly announcing it during dinner, I never thought she would have taken it seriously.
"Savannah," she encouraged.
"What?" Jasper asked, turning to me.
All attention were on me and from the corner of my eyes, I could see Kyla smirking. Well, might as well get this over with.
"I'm pregnant," I finally said. It took a second for the news to settle in, but as soon as it did, the people started giving me their congratulations, they started squealing and bringing out their phones to capture the moment.
Jasper, on the other hand, looked like he was just robbed, "What?" he gaped.
Grinning up to him, I repeated, "I'm pregnant," I told him, "You're going to be a father."
There are many ways to react, like crying of happiness or smiling with the widest smile but the son of a gun took a different route and he actually fainted.
And not just the kidding ones, but he actually fainted.
Oops.
I gasped at the result, but his sister casually stood up and inspected him, "He'll be alright."
As I watched him get woken by others, I couldn't help but laugh and shake my head.
Looks like another amazing chapter is about to begin.
-------------------------
I've attempted to write an epilogue four times. The first one, I decided for it to become bonus chapter instead. Second, I stopped halfway because I didn't like the idea too much. Third, I finished it but I wasn't satisfied, and at least the fourth one made it.
I would like to thank you all once again and please wait for the bonus chapter that's to go up in about three to four days. The author's note for that one will be slightly different, and I don't know if I'm going to regret posting it or not. It just basically tells the reason why I wrote this story in the first place.
Well then, see you guys. Don't forget to leave a comment, vote, and follow. I love you all! Mwah!
