Another Day in the Life

He wakes up an hour before school ends, surprised to see Mr. Aizawa sitting at his bedside.

"I understand Todoroki's father did this to you?" Mr. Aizawa asks and Bakugo panics, not showing it, but looking around for Todoroki.

He's on the other side of the bed, and when Bakugo looks at him in question, all he does is nod.

So Bakugo tells the truth.

"Yeah. Asshole just watched me pass out and yelled at me for not getting up."

Aizawa raises an eyebrow and his eyes drift over to Todoroki.

"That's abuse, you know?" Mr. Aiawa asks Todoroki.

Todoroki just nods.

"Not much I can do now. My siblings won't speak up if I even go to the police. It would honestly just turn out worse for me. I've though about it, trust me," Todoroki says.

"How have you thought about it? You're the victim, of course you're going to be scared about telling the authorities," Mr. Aizawa counters.

Todoroki's obviously have a hard time in Bakugo's body, feeling so many emotions and not knowing what to do with them.

"I'm not myself right now, but Endeavor is currently the number one hero. Although not a lot of people like him, he does have the support of millions. Let's say I do speak up, no one will be there to support me. My siblings are terrified of him and my mother-"

He gets choked up, and actually makes a face at that, confused as to why it actually got to him so much.

Todoroki clears his throat and moves on, though.

"My mother is in a psych ward. No judge will believe her after she physically harmed me," he says, pointing at Bakugo who's in his body, obviously talking about the scar.

His eyes are watering and he looks frustrated at them. Like he doesn't know what to do.

"There are no witnesses," he forces himself to say although his voice sounds shaky, "no one can back me up."

Bakugo honestly doesn't know what to do.

"Well, I'm a victim now, too," Bakugo says.

"He didn't know we were switched so he did what he normally does to you, so now I know and I can testify once we're switched back."

He doesn't know how that'll work because it's kind of a mess.

He and Todoroki should have told people that they were switched because now it's weird that Bakugo was living as Todoroki without anyone but Mr. Aizawa and that Hoku guy.

Bakugo looks at Mr. Aizawa for approval.

He seems to be thinking the same thing, eyebrows furrowed as he thinks.

"The situation makes this very complicated. I will see what I can do. For now, all I will tell you is that I'll try to shift the blame on myself for the complications. Tell the truth which is that the switch was so sudden and out of the ordinary that you guys just did the stupid thing and kept it a secret since you didn't know how to handle a situation I just threw at you."

Todoroki nods, agreeing.

Bakugo also agrees, but he doesn't nod or anything. It's not up to him to agree or disagree. It's not his life. It's Todoroki's.

Mr. Aizawa leaves after that, dismissing the two of them. Recovery Girl walks in as soon as Aizawa leaves, and she shoves food at both Bakugo and Todoroki.

"I got you something to eat. Go on now, eat it," she demands.

They do, opening the foam boxes that the food was in, being greeted by some fish, rice, and broccoli.

Immediately, Bakugo starts eating, feeling like he was starved for weeks, but actually being in the right state of mind to be able to eat.

When he looks over at Todoroki, he can see the struggle.

Ah, yeah, the eating disorder.

Todoroki is clearly trying, eating slowly but surely, looking determined, but conflicted.

"Thanks for trying," Bakugo blurts.

Todoroki looks up, wide eyed, making a confused noise.

"You," Bakugo motions, "you're trying to eat despite my shitty mind. Thank you for that."

To his horror, Todoroki tears up and immediately looks away, nodding.

"You feel so much all the time. It's-" he stops abruptly, trying to figure out what to say, "It's just hard."

"It's the opposite of you. You bottle everything up and can't really express anything. That's hard for me, too, since I'm so used to being able to do what I feel. Cry if I'm sad, throw shit if I'm mad, or smile when I'm happy."

Todoroki nods.

"It's weird. I kind of wish I could go back to before we switched. This is all so messy. I don't like that people know so much and that you got hurt. I just regret upsetting you and also not backing off."

Bakugo sighs, nodding as he chews.

"I regret not backing off, too, and overreacting."

He does. Immensely.

"But now I'm glad I can help you. Even if we're like this."

He genuinely means it. Now that he knows exactly what Todoroki goes through, has been through, and wishes for himself, he wishes the same. He wishes that Todoroki had a normal childhood.

Bakugo hopes for the same things as Todoroki does for himself.

Maybe he's a little biased since he's in Todoroki's body, but he genuinely believes that when they're switched back, he'll feel the same way about wanting to help this emotionless idiot.

"Thank you, Bakugo," Todoroki says.

He's still struggling to eat, but by the time the bell rings, signalling the end of the day, they're both finished and Todoroki looks like he's on the verge of running out of here, but doing everything in his power to stay.

As they make their leave, they wave goodbye to Recovery Girl and thank her for her hospitality.

"Your dad really doesn't give a shit if you pass out during a spar?" Bakugo asks Todoroki.

There was no homework, so they had more time to spend together, just giving each other more descriptive tips on how they should live as each other, Bakugo venturing a little of topic because of curiosity.

He also kind of wants Todoroki to express how he feels while he can. It would be good for him to be able to let it out. To relieve some of the tension that's been building up.

Todoroki looks at him from across the booth, sighing.

They came to a restaurant to drink some shakes that they heard were popular, neither of them really minding the amount of people here.

Todoroki also opted for the smallest size since he was still going through it.

"No. He doesn't. At all."

Bakugo raises an eyebrow at Todoroki, already getting used to looking at himself.

"Sometimes he'll even shake me until I wake up. Or slap me," he says, looking away as he swirls his shake around with his straw.

There's a grimace on his face.

Anger.

He's mad.

"You have to let it out, Halfie. Like, fucking, go berserk in my house or something. Lose it. You get to," Bakugo says, really hoping that Todoroki will express what he feels.

"Your parents are leaving tonight."

Bakugo nods. "Yeah they usually tell me last minute."

Todoroki hums, leaning back into the seat, giving up on the shake already.

"I usually fight Endeavor by not getting hits in. He gets beyond mad and goes crazy. I just try to dodge. I told you that already, but your fighting style is different, so it'll take some time to get used to. If you just dodge, after ten minutes he'll end the match and you're free to go."

That sounds a little too easy.

"He ends the match by knocking the hell out of me, but it ends," Todoroki shrugs.

Okay that makes more sense.

"I forget, when are your no training days?"

"Tuesdays and Sundays," he says not really paying attention as he checks the time.

"We should get going. Endeavor should be home within the hour," he says, already getting out of the booth, so Bakugo follows.

He hadn't finished his shake either, but it was better that way. He had to spar with Endeavor soon anyway. He'd hate to puke an entire milkshake. That would definitely be gross.

Hell, Endeavor might get even more pissed off and knock him out again.

~~~~~
"I see you got healed by Recovery Girl," Endeavor says, voice booming.
He'd just walked into the training room where Bakugo waited. The man is honestly beyond annoying. Making him wait for forever in this room just because he knew Todoroki would stay.
It's such a dick move.
"Yes, she didn't ask many questions. I avoided drawing attention to myself," Bakugo says in the most Todoroki way ever.
"Good, now get up," Endeavor says, and Bakugo listens, getting up cautiously, and he's right to because Endeavor immediately goes for an attack.
Like Todoroki had said Bakugo dodges.
He dodges and dodges, not getting any hits in at all because that makes him lash out in anger.
Fucking ridiculous if you ask Bakugo because doesn't this guy want Todoroki to surpass All Might?
Why is he getting mad that Todoroki is surpassing him?
He has to surpass Endeavor before he can surpass All Might, but fucking- whatever.
Bakugo doesn't want to get Todoroki's body hurt. Especially not when Todoroki is trying to hard for Bakugo's body. So he dodges, hoping that it really does only take ten minutes for Endeavor to get tired of this same old shit and ends the fight.
Sure, he'll end up hurting him, but Bakugo will take that over serious lung damage any day.
He maybe cares a little bit about this.
It's kind of his fault anyway.
The least he can do is care.
It's almost at the fifteen minutes mark that Endeavor gets pissed off and finally lands a blow, making a wave of pain shoot up Bakugo's side, but he's relieved that it's over now.
He lands on the floor with a gasp of pain and when he doesn't move, Endeavor huffs in victory and leaves without a word.
Bakugo waits it out, listening hard for Endeavor in the house, wondering where the pro hero might be going. When he deems it safe, he sighs in relief.
Slowly, Bakugo lifts himself from the floor.
Fuck his ribs hurt.
They're not broken. Bruised at most, but nothing too bad.
It hurts to move and it'll probably be worse tomorrow, but it's manageable and it's way better than the alternative, which- yeah he'd rather not have to go through that again.
The teen gets up, being careful with the hurt side, but noting to himself that he should definitely stretch so that he's not sore tomorrow.
No matter how much it hurts now, if he doesn't stretch, the pain tomorrow will definitely be a pain in the ass.
In Todoroki's room, Bakugo sees that his phone has a few messages. Some from Todoroki of course, but then there are some from Kirishima and also his parents.
He responds to his parents' message, a quick something that he doesn't even have to tell Todoroki about.
They just asked him if he was alright.
The messages from Kirishima is more annoying, though, making Bakugo sigh heavily at it.
Kirishima: Hey bro! I told Denks that you'd tag along during the movie night at his house, so I hope you're up for it
Kirishima: it's totally chill if you can't make it, but we'd all be pretty sad that you're not here
Kirishima: I really hope you can make it
Kirishima: We'll talk about it tomorrow
Kirishima: Goodnight bro!!
Bakugo screenshots the conversation with Kirishima and sends it off to Todoroki who probably doesn't want to go. His anxiety is always messing shit up, and if Todoroki isn't used to it, that movie night might not be the best thing for him right now.
The message from Todoroki just told him to remember to only dodge unless he wants something serious to happen.
When he sends off the message to Todoroki, he doesn't even wait for a response, instead he goes to shower.
It's when he has to wash up or use the restroom that he really really wants to go back to his own body. It's so awkward and weird having to hold Todoroki's fucking- his peepee when he pees.
Yes, peepee. He's not saying any other word than that.
As soon as he's out of the damn shower, all changed and feeling clean, he gets into Todoroki's comfy and clean sheets and grabs his phone, looking at the pile of messages Todoroki decided to leave him.
Halfie: Bakugo
Halfie: Is that real
Halfie: please say it's fake
Halfie: I really don't want to go
Halfie: Bakugo can you answer
Halfie: I'm being serious Bakugo
Halfie: being you is hard and I really don't want to go
Yeah Bakugo knew that was the reaction he'd get. He responds to Kirishima, letting him know that he's not going but he will next time for sure to make it up to him.
He will make it up to him.
Then he responds to Todoroki, letting him know that he doesn't have to go and he already cancelled with Kirishima, telling him he'd make it up to all of them by going next time which will probably be when they're switched back.
Bakugo adds how Todoroki's bed is so comfortable and is taking it with him when they switch back.
They fall asleep texting each other and it's easy, weirdly enough, to text Todoroki for hours on the phone.
~~~~~

"So when he finally got tired, he hit me really fucking hard. I don't give a fuck what it takes, I'm taking your dad down," Bakugo tells Todoroki as they walk in.

Honestly, Bakugo doesn't get how this guy is so easy to talk to. Especially since he's looking at himself when he's talking. It's disorienting.

Todoroki is kind of just there and even though he's annoyed or mad, even in Bakugo's body where he's more able to express these feelings, he doesn't.

Their classmates are starting to suspect something is wrong because Todoroki in Bakugo's body doesn't really react.

He doesn't really get annoyed and if he does, he does a good job of reeling it in, not exploding like regular Bakugo would.

Todoroki does remember to yell here and there, but it's just weird.

Bakugo considers throwing a punch at him when they're switched back, but the view of Endeavor's fist flying towards Todoroki throws him off and makes him feel bad.

Okay, maybe physical violence is not the key.

This IcyHot idiot is making him feel feelings that he hasn't really felt.

For instance he feels bad.

Okay, yeah he always feels bad, but not like this. Not like 'I want to protect him' bad.

But now he feels like that towards this idiot and it really came out of nowhere.

He thinks maybe it's Todoroki's mind making him think these things and it's not him. Either way, he feels it now and he will do whatever it takes to get Todoroki away from Endeavor.

"Wow, I didn't know you could be nice," Todoroki jabs at Bakugo.

Bakugo finds that funny as fuck, but he somehow doesn't laugh.

Fucking Todoroki.

"Fuck you, I just don't think shitty people should be parents."

Todoroki huffs in amusement and it ticks Bakugo off.

"Funny because your parents are shitty people, too."

Bakugo is hit with a wave of confusion and Todoroki makes a humming noise in the back of his throat as he looks at him.

"Do I usually make that face?" Todoroki asks, looking very much concerned.

"If it's a stupid fish face, then yes, but what the fuck about my parents is shitty?"

Todoroki makes a face at the word 'fish' but doesn't say anything.

"Just because they don't physically abuse you doesn't mean they're not shitty. I know it's none of my business, but we are switched," Todoroki starts slowly.

"And because of that, I do get some of your thoughts, memories, and feelings something. I know that they know about your cuts. I know how they reacted. I know that even then, they didn't take time off of work and made you feel like a burden. They're shitty."

Bakugo is suddenly hit with all of those facts.

It hits him a little too hard, and although he wants to run and throw shit and cry, he takes a deep breath.

"I just feel too much. You're blowing it out of proportion," he says, waving his arm and shaking off that bad feeling.

His parents just don't know how to handle that stuff. It's not their fault.

Looking at the facts, though, Bakugo sees how Todoroki sees this.

"Your parents neglect you and that's a form of abuse. I don't mean to be so harsh, but your parents are shitty and you don't deserve that either."

Bakugo inhales sharply, shaking his head.

"Whatever. Let's just try to help you. We can actually get you away from your dad. The law doesn't take away parents for not being nice. They take them away for physical abuse," Bakugo says, changing the subject and not wanting the subject in him anymore.

"They got me my medication and my mom cried. That's enough for me. I don't need them on my ass or to baby me. It's what I wanted."

They both know that's a lie, but Todoroki doesn't say anything, deciding to just leave it be.

"Whatever, let's talk about the gist of what you'll say to Kirishima about the movie thing," Bakugo's finalizes.

Todoroki nods, opening the school doors for him and letting him talk.

"Just tell him that your parents are here for a short amount of time and it was sudden so you want to spend time with them. Something along those line. If you apologize, don't outright say it, just tell him lunch is on you or something and you'll definitely join next time. Yeah?"

Todoroki nods, listening quietly which is not something the normal Bakugo does.

"You also don't gotta keep all your emotions locked in. Unless you're sad. If you're sad, you bottle that shit up or go cry in the restroom. People are starting to worry about how 'Bakugo' has been too quiet," Bakugo brings up.

Todoroki hums in acknowledgement, letting Bakugo know that he heard him.

"You need to stop cursing so much and reel in the little amount of emotion that pops out," Todoroki instructs.

Bakugo huffs, nodding.

"Okay now let's part. Can't have people thinking we like each other," Todoroki jokes and walks off in another direction, leaving Bakugo to walk alone like Todoroki usually does.

He even drifts away from Deku here and there.

It's a little weird when he's supposed to be Todoroki. How is he with his friends?

Obviously, they taught each other how to speak to each other's friends, but how does Todoroki feel around his?

Is he happy?

Does he really enjoy it?

Would he rather be alone?

So far, Bakugo hasn't really minded being around even Asui and boy does he hate her as himself.

Bakugo takes that as a sign that, yeah, Todoroki probably does enjoy spending time with them. Although, whenever Bakugo does in Todoroki's body, he feels a little bad.

Like he shouldn't be there and in the back of his mind, he feels like he doesn't deserve to.

Bakugo doesn't blame Todoroki because he feels the same way sometimes. His friends are so great and nice. Nothing like him. No mean remarks or sarcastic comments. He understands that Todoroki feels the same, but he doesn't know why.

Is it because he's socially awkward? Doesn't know how to interact with people he likes being around?

Or was it because his family fucked him up so bad that he just feels like he shouldn't be around 'normal' people?

Whatever the reason, Bakugo is going to show him that he does deserve to be around his friends.

It's his mission now.

Get Shoto Todoroki the life he deserves.

He hasn't really done anything wrong and although Bakugo finds him annoying, he can still see that he isn't bad.

This guy doesn't even have the bare minimum.

He has to look for the love and care he should already have.

That isn't right.

So as Bakugo lives another day in the life of Shoto Todoroki, he promises to make it better while he's here.

~~~~~
"So when you stick up your hands, you mean it as a high five?" Bakugo asks Uraraka, pretending to not know because Todoroki definitely doesn't.
"Todoroki, we went over this last week. Yes," she says, hands still up and waiting for 'Todoroki' to return her high five. Bakugo does return it, awkwardly and unsure, looking at Uraraka with a look, hoping to get her approval.
"Perfect," she says, smiling widely and giving him a thumbs up.
For some reason, although he can't really express his feelings in Todoroki's body, he finds himself smiling lightly.
Okay so Uraraka is a good friend to this Halfie idiot. Bakugo doesn't have to kill her then.
Great.
"Me, too Todoroki," Deku says, raising his hands up for a high five, too.
Awkwardly, Bakugo's returns it, hiding the urge to roll his eyes, but in Todoroki's body, he finds himself smiling lightly again.
What the fuck.
"Me too," Asui says, smiling, probably noticing the smile he has.
For some reason Bakugo can't control it and he knows these idiots are taking advantage of how much 'Todoroki' seems to like high fiving his friends.
Stupid fucking Todoroki.
So with that same smile that he can't fight back, he gives Asui a high five.
When Four Eyes comes along, he raises his hands in a silent way.
Obviously, he gives the idiot his high five and smiles happily all the while. Unbelievable.
He kind of wishes that they would have done this when it was actually Todoroki because judging from the smile he has, Todoroki would have loved it.
He'll do it when they're back to normal that way Todoroki can feel the joy himself.
"You got the hang of it," Uraraka smiles.
"We should do that all the time," Bakugo says, only saying it so that they keep offering high fives to this idiot.
"Oh my gosh, yeah."
Uraraka seems overjoyed with that so hopefully she actually does high five him all the time.
"You'd like that, Todoroki?" Deku asks, looking at him excitedly.
"I just said we should all the time," he says, shrugging.
Pretending to be this idiot is harder than it seems.
Although it's only been two full days in this guy's body, Bakugo is so done with this bullshit. It's the weekend soon, too, and Bakugo doesn't know how he's going to make the weekend alone with Endeavor.
He doesn't really know what happens, but for some reason, Todoroki's body is dreading it.
He'll have to ask why it's so bad, but maybe either Todoroki can come back to his house or Bakugo can stay with Todoroki in his own.
Either way, Bakugo definitely thinks a sleepover is due.
Bakugo doesn't know why he wants to protect Todoroki's body so much, but he guesses it's because that's what heroes do. They want to protect and help people.
Makes sense.
It could also be that he just doesn't want to get hurt because he can still feel pain in this body whether he wants to or not.
So he goes on trying to make small changes in Todoroki's life. Nothing like signing him up for volunteer work or anything. More like creating opportunities for him to experience joy.
For instance the high five thing.
He smiled at a few people who were looking at him to try and come off as nice so people wouldn't be scared of him.
For some reason Todoroki is adamant about making friends. He nags at Bakugo about being his friend all the damn time. So he's trying to make Todoroki look approachable. Everyone knows Todoroki thinks he's smiling at someone when it looks like a glare.
Bakugo doesn't know how he does it, but he ends up being able to get some people to smile back at him.
Hopefully people decide to come up to this idiot when he's back in his own body.
If Bakugo had to deal with them as Todoroki, he'd be beyond fucking annoyed, but other than that, the whole point of this is to make Todoroki happy when they approach him as himself.
Bakugo definitely deserves a break after this shit. Sure he's probably going to work himself to the bone when he's back in his own body, but he does deserve a day off.
Always being tired and hurting himself in any way he can sucks.
He doesn't like to be that way, it's just something he got used to in order to stave off the internal shit. Everyone knows that going through depression sucks ass and it's so hard to see your accomplishments when you're just struggling to be happy.
Not even the wins feel all that great.
It's not like he has someone on his back constantly like Todoroki does. That's probably why this idiot turned out this way.
So emotionally repressed, it makes Bakugo want to pull his hair out.
This guy struggles to even smile it's so bad.
Bakugo tries not to think about it to much because then he'll get one of Todoroki's flashbacks from his childhood. Ugh those are horribly heartbreaking.
He doesn't react outwardly, though. He feels his heart rate pick up tenfold, but the whole time his body doesn't move and it throws Bakugo in for a loop because this is not how he reacts in his own body when he has a flashback.
It's messy and obvious and it brings so much attention to himself.
You'd never know when it was happening to Todoroki, though.
But even then, Bakugo locks this away and makes sure to bring it up with the idiot whether or not they're back in their own bodies. Maybe when they're not.
He knows that IcyHot has been struggling with all of his emotions. Bakugo feels a lot. It's a lot even for him who has to live with it every day. He can't imagine how bad Todoroki is feeling because of all the emotions spilling over.
Bakugo's wonders if he enjoys it.
Not the depression or sadness, but being able to lash out.
He wonders if he likes yelling and being able to cry when he feels sad.
Wonders if it's relieving to expel it all as soon as it hits instead of letting it build up and taking it out on people during training.
He can't really find out yet, so for now he just lives another day in the life as Todoroki Shoto.
