Part 18

A/N:

holy Mother of God...

Literally dead

---

You smile back up at Connor. "See you on Friday."

You throw your shoes on and step outside, Hank is already in the car. It's not raining anymore but it's still cold. The freezing, almost spicy air pinches your nose as you run through the cold and open the passenger door before sitting next to Hank as he starts the car. Connor stands in the doorway and waves as you drive away. You wave back, unsure if he can see you or not.

When he's out of sight, it's just you and Hank. The air is thick and tense and awkward.

Hank clears his throat. "I ah... I'm sorry for that back there." Hank says.

"Oh it's fine, I shouldn't have gotten in your bed it was a little creepy," You admit with an embarrassed blush.

It's quiet for a moment. You weren't expecting him to say 'Oh no it's not creepy at all!' But after the silence which followed, you decide that it would've been nice if he did. But he didn't.

"What's with this guy at your house then? Old friend?" Hank inquires, changing the subject.

You sigh. There's a lot to Sid's story. The whole Oskar and Ruby situation is just one factor as to why you cut all ties to Sid.

You look out of the window and see a tree go past. It's leaves are swaying sickly in the wind as if the tree was on a boat. Another flashback strikes you like a flash of lighting.

You were walking somewhere with Sid and Oskar. It was warm so you were all wearing shorts and summer clothes.

God I love it when you wear those shorts

Sid heckled and then landed a hard, crisp slap on your butt. You yipped in response. He did stuff like that all the time.

You turn to face the front again and clear your throat. "Sid used to be a good friend of mine and Oskar's. But he wasn't the greatest person. He bullied Oskar in the past, tried to get us to do drugs, slept with Oskars girlfriend and constantly harassed me."

"So you decided that you didn't want to be his buddy anymore?"

You nod. "And now since I'm not talking to Oskar, Sid somehow found out and it ticked him off."

"Why aren't you talking to Oskar again?" Hank asks.

"We'll it's his dad. He's a horrible person." You explain with a shrug.

"That doesn't mean Oskar has to be." Hank says. "These guys are very fucking secretive and know what their shit. There's a chance Oskar really didn't know about his dad."

"I know..." You sigh. "I just find it hard to believe."

The rest of the journey is quiet. The air is less awkward after that little talk but it's still not perfect.

The streets around the car and the surroundings become more familiar as you begin to recognise where you are. The car begins to slow and you look at the (dusty, unused) driveway in front of the house and see that Sid is still there. Still knocking.

"Is this the guy?" Hank asks. You nod.

Sid is leaning with his forehead on the door and his fist pounding on the door in a slow, creepy pattern. He slowly says your name over and over, making him look like a character in a horror movie.

As Hank pulls up, the headlights of his car shine on the man and Sid lifts his head to see you and Hank. His eyes widen as Hank opens the door and steps out.

"Okay buddy, that's enough. Scram." Hank says.

Sid stands still for a minute, you're still in the car watching these events unfold.

"And what are you gonna do? Shoot me?" Sid laughs like a child.

Hank then reaches into his coat pocket and pulls out a gun. "Sounds like a plan."

Your heart stops for a minute.

Sid looks at Hank and then to you. "Fuck." He hisses before kicking a stone and walking away defeatedly. You're surprised at how quickly he gave up. Maybe he just doesn't want to get too involved with the police department. But then again, how would he know that Hank works for the DPD?

"If you ever come back here then I'll fucking kill you." Hank shouts after him.

"Yeah yeah whatever you old cunt." Sid mumbles.

Hank scowls after him and slowly lowers his gun then turns to look at you. You get out the car and shiver.

"Thank you so much Hank."

Hank simply puts a thumb up to you and you smile in response.

"Do you wanna come in for a drink or something? I'll get changed and give you these back." You say as you pull the fabric of Hank's shirt forward, The logo for Detroit Gears becoming distorted in all the wrinkles and creases in the fabric as you let go.

"Do you have any kind of booze?" Hank asks.

You tell him that you're not a big fan of alcohol so you don't have any.

"Then I'll have a coffee." Hank says.

You walk up to the door and Hank follows you inside. The television is still on but the house is still dark.

"Make yourself at home, I'll be there in a minute." You gesture to the room and walk upstairs.

After quickly getting changed, you hop down the stairs and make you and Hank a drink. Walking through the hallway, watching the drinks with a hawks eye being careful as to not spill a drop of the drinks, you glance at the clock and take note of the time. It's 12. Midnight. And you're having coffee with Hank.

"Thanks Y/N." Hank takes the drink from you and you sit next to him on the couch. "If that guy ever comes back you let me know okay?"

"I will." You blow the steam from the top of your drink to cool it down.

Hank takes a daring sip from his still scolding hot drink and then sets it on the coffee table.

"So. You and Connor." Hank begins. "I'm still a bit confused about how the fuck you two met. Explain?"

"Well I found Connor by the river shot about twenty times and he was completely shut down. So I rebooted him and when he woke up he couldn't remember anything. So I let him stay with me and then he started remembering things." You explain.

Hank nods along with your explanation and finally speaks when you're finished. "Connor really likes you." He tells you. "I know, I didn't think robots could feel things but he seems to actually like you."

You laugh in disbelief. "I don't think that's true. I don't think normal androids are supposed to feel love."

Hank shrugs."I don't think Connor is a normal android. And besides, I don't blame him for liking you."

You raise an eyebrow. "What do you mean? Why?"

He turns to face you. "There's something about you Y/N. I don't know what it is but something about you is just... There. I don't like a lot of people. But I've known you for a matter of days and feel like you're worth something."

"What're you saying?" You ask.

"I guess you just remind me of..." Hank trails away towards the end and you take a patient sip from your drink. "You just remind me of my son. You have the same spark as he did."

"I had no idea you have a son." You say with a smile. "What's his name?"

Hanks expression is grim and you feel a knot in your stomach. "He... His name was Cole. He died a couple years back."

You gulp and then look at the ground. "It's a horrible thing to lose someone you love."

Hank nods.

"I understand how you feel." You slide your hand into Hanks and squeeze comfortingly. He looks down at your hand and then back at you.

"Thanks for the drink and the company Y/N but it's past midnight, I really should go." Hank says as he lets go of your hand and stands up, stretching.

"Of course." You smile. "I'll see you soon?"

"Yeah." Hank looks back at you and smiles a sweet genuine smile. "Yeah I will."
