Chapter 45 - Prepare for Reset

"You do realize we can't actually give him All For One, right?" Katsuki asked with a grunt, grabbing onto another part of the structure Cementos stomped out of the ground for them to climb. It was supposed to be quirkless training, so Aizawa had allowed Izuku to join in. He couldn't keep slacking off on his physique, after all.

"I know," Izuku frowned, glancing ahead to see which path was best. "But it's a nice thought, isn't it? I mean, if he has the quirk-"

"I'm gonna stop you right there, Deku-kun," Ochako interrupted, lifting herself up until she was at the same height as Izuku. "All For One will take control of his mind if the doctor transfers the quirk, right? You won't be able to talk sense into him."

"Like I said, it's a nice thought," Izuku hummed, continuing to climb until he reached a ledge he could stand on. Of course he knew why All For One was passing on his quirk. It wasn't anything noble like One For All, nor was it due to love or care or loyalty. It was to obtain a new body, a new vessel. A way to live forever and take control over the whole world. He didn't have the heart to tell Tenko that, though. Not after he used his connection to the man to convince him he wouldn't push Tenko to be something he didn't want to be, that he was free to choose.

"I still can't believe you told him about...you know," Katsuki breathed as Izuku pulled him up on the ledge. "You never talk about it."

"You know why," Izuku said, glancing up to see how far they still had to go. Katsuki sighed, knowing it was best to drop the subject. This wasn't worth fighting over. Not again. "Come on, let's not get distracted. There's a rough path up ahead, so we better be-"

Izuku's voice was cut off by a scream as a flash of purple fell down the structure. He acted before he could think, jumping after Mineta as he beelined to the ground below. Izuku was able to grab the back of his shirt and use Float to halt their descent. It would've been easier to simply use Blackwhip to catch him, that way Izuku didn't have to jump after him and cause a scene. But he didn't have access to that quirk right now and everyone was staring at him.

"Everything alright, Deku-kun?" Ochako asked, using her own quirk to float next to him.

"Yeah, I'm fine," Izuku nodded, floating down to the ground in order to get Mineta to safety. He couldn't simply toss him back on the structure, now could he? "You go on ahead, I'm just gonna drop him off so he can calm down."

Mineta was still in shock about the whole ordeal, after all. Sometimes Izuku wondered how he got through the hero course when he was easily scared like this, but then again, he would be expelled during their second year anyway, so it didn't really matter.

"Since when can Midoriya fly?" he heard Ashido ask, making him tense up for a moment. He really didn't think this one through, did he?

"What do you mean? He's always been able to do that," Denki pointed out, playing the dumb obvious idiot part perfectly. Because if even Denki knew about it, why shouldn't you? Teenager logic, not the best way to check information, but convenient for situations like these. Although Eraserhead clearly didn't agree with that... All Might was looking rather strangely at him, though. As if he was trying to puzzle pieces together. It was odd, that's the only way Izuku could describe it.

"Mineta, you're benched. Think about what went wrong and how to prevent it in the future. Midoriya, a word," he called out as soon as Izuku's feet touched the ground again. This would probably turn into a lecture on personal safety and his reckless hero-complex, but that was fine. Mineta didn't fall to death so that's all that mattered, right? But before he could make his way over to Aizawa, All Might stopped him. A simple hand on his shoulder was more than enough, and one look told him more than words ever could. Those eyes... He recognized those eyes! Izuku took a shaky breath, trying to control his tears, but that had always been a losing battle.

"This is quite the mess we find ourselves in, isn't it, young Midoriya?"

Yep, there were the tears. Izuku couldn't help but fling himself onto his mentor, sobbing in his chest as All Might wheezed, trying to recover from the sudden force. He chuckled, patting Izuku's back as the boy cried tears of joy and relief. He had his mentor back! His father figure! All Might was actually here! Izuku couldn't believe it, didn't want to think about the technicalities of it all. No, he just wanted to revel in this moment right here, forgetting the world around him.

"Uhm... Midoriya?" Aizawa called out, confused at the sudden theatrics.

"It's alright," All Might smiled, waving him off. "I'm going to take him outside to get some fresh air. Is that okay?"

He didn't wait for an answer, though, simply guiding Izuku outside so they could get a little more privacy as his heir broke down in his arms. Toshinori hadn't expected to be here, hadn't expected any of it to work... But look at them now. Send back in time. They truly did it. Although they didn't get exactly what they wanted, Jikan had certainly made their mark on history.

It all happened so suddenly. One moment he was jogging his usual route, the next he was knocked down by a blow in the back of his head. Toshinori wasn't sure what to think. There weren't many villains still after him since his successor took the spotlight. But maybe that was the reason he was targeted? To get to Midoriya? It was a possibility... That suspicion only grew when he woke up tied to a chair, seeing several masked people fumbling about a big machine.

"Oi, he's awake!"

All Might blinked, glancing around as one of the figures walked up to him. It was a woman with amber eyes, standing out against the black of her mask. Her hair was tied back in a ponytail and was as pitch black as the rest of her outfit. She looked a little like those ninja's from that old comic he used to read. What was the name again..?

"Welcome, All Might," she greeted him. "I hope you aren't uncomfortable, but you must understand we need to take certain safety measures."

"Ah, of course," Toshinori chuckled. This wasn't his first hostage situation, but normally he wasn't the one needing the rescuing. "May I ask why you brought me here? You see, I still have an appointment later today and they'll be worried if I don't show up."

"Not to worry, you'll have plenty of chances to see them again soon," the woman smiled. "Just sit tight and allow us to work our magic."

"Your, uh, your what?"

"Patience," she told him while walking away. "Soon we'll have all the time in the world to talk about things."

Toshinori frowned. He was hoping for a villain monologue explaining whatever was going on here. You'd be surprised about the amount of criminals who ranted about their plans before completing them. But this bunch seemed more organized, more prepared. They'd probably been working up to this for quite some time, all while staying under the radar. Quite impressive. But then again, organized crime evolved faster than he could keep up with now that he wasn't directly involved in any hero work anymore.

It didn't matter, anyway. He was sure that people would be looking for him, had faith in the current hero system. Toshinori will be rescued from this situation one way or another, of that he was certain. The only thing he could do was gather as much intel as he possibly could until that moment arrived. The more the heroes knew about his captivators, the better, after all.

"That's quite the machine you got there," he mused. "What does it do?"

"It will fix all your problems," the woman answered while another person walked past him.

"We'll restore your strength and bring you back to your prime~!" they exclaimed happily. "Aren't you excited, All Might? You'll be young and strong again!"

What? Young and strong again, restoring him to his prime- Toshinori didn't like where this was going. The last time someone had tried to bring him back to his prime, a villain had almost destroyed I-Island. Besides, if this machine worked anything like that equipment did, it wouldn't have the effect they wanted. All Might's spark died out a long time ago. His power was gone, there was nothing left to boost. And even so, even if they somehow returned him to his primes, what then? Did they really think he would just let them get away with all of this if he had the muscle to stop them?

He shouldn't be making assumptions, though. This group was organized and well prepared, their plan must be in the making for quite some time. So they must've thought of everything, or at least the most likely possibilities, at least. Yes, maybe these were just underlings, footsoldiers. Most of these people probably didn't know the whole plan or how it was supposed to work. That would explain things.

"Don't annoy our guest, idiot. He'll remember," the woman stated, berating the person who just talked to him. "Is everything ready?!"

"The equipment is still calibrating, but we should be ready in about an hour," someone else called out.

"Uhm, ma'am, we have a problem!" another once yelled shortly after.

"Machine malfunction? Is the quirk infusion getting unstable again?" the woman asked in a panic. Quirk infusion..?

"No, but we've been found out! Heroes are gathering outside the building as we speak!"

Oh! Excellent! That didn't take as long as All Might thought it might. The heroes were already here to rescue him! Maybe this organization didn't stay completely under the radar. Maybe this raid had already been planned or they'd moved their plans ahead because of his kidnapping? Toshinori made a mental note to ask about it when they released him from this place.

"Damnit," the woman cursed. "Send out the intervention squad. Make sure to stall as long as possible!"

There was some more cursing after that, people stumbling and running about as the machine was mostly abandoned. Those still left working on it, were working much faster than before, making sure this thing would be finished before the heroes intercepted and ruined their plans. Toshinori still didn't understand what it was supposed to do, but that didn't matter right now. Because right now, nobody was looking his way. This was his chance to escape, to free himself from these ropes and make a run for it. Use the chaos to his advantage.

The ropes were bound tighter than he expected them to, though. They didn't hurt or cut his skin, but seemed to tighten when he struggled against it. Maybe it was a quirk-induced rope, or it was laced with a special alloy of sorts. Which meant escaping wouldn't be as easy as it seemed. It reminded him of Eraserhead's scarf in a weird way, another unescapable weapon.

"The quirk infusion has stabilized!"

"Prepare for reset!"

All Might got startled as he was suddenly pulled up from his chair. Huh, he could swear he'd been tied down to the metal... There wasn't a lot of time to think about that though, because he was quickly pushed towards the machine. There seemed to be an entrance on the side he couldn't see before, a chamber of sorts. Was this how they were going to restore him to his prime? Or try to, at least.

"Are you excited, All Might?" the woman asked, entering the chamber as well. "This is a once in a lifetime experience! Or well, it doesn't have to be, technically- I'll make sure it won't be."

"What are you talking about?" Toshinori asked.

"We'll restore you to your prime! Back to the years you were on the top!" the woman grinned as other people started entering the chamber. "We'll wipe this rotten world from existence, make it so none of it ever happens, give you and everyone here a second chance- Lots of chances- As many as it takes to fix all that's wrong with this reality."

"...What?" he repeated. She couldn't actually mean what he thought she meant, right? She wasn't actually talking about-

"We're going to rewind time," she smiled. "Reset this broken world and start anew!"

"Even if you start things anew, like you said," Toshinori started, trying to comprehend how they thought this was a good idea, let alone that it would work and not just incinerate them all, "how are you planning on changing things? If none of this ever happened, how do you know what's to come?"

"Oh, we'll know, we've made sure of it," she assured him. "I'll even let you in on a little trick to use, in case you want to recruit your past allies for our cause."
