Song: Superheroes- The Script

I had the night off...and it felt great to get out of the house. I find my way downtown and park the car when I see her walking down the road with a few of her friends. I haven't seen her in so long that she probably won't even recognize me at first. I run up to catch up to them and then bump into her as I walk on past her. "Excuse me...how rude." She says all pissed off because she nearly dropped her phone. I hear her tell her friends, "What a freaking jerk...like can't he see us walking here."

I turn back around to apologize to her. "Oh...I'm sorry excuse me...I didn't mean..." I look up at her and the flat smile on her face curls up just a little. I see her eyes light up a little when she sees who I am.

"Atticus...holy hell is that you?" She reaches out and grabs my arms. "What the hell happened to you?" She continues to squeeze my arms, noticing the small difference. It's been almost six months since I have seen her and I'm not as boney as I was before. "I thought you dropped off the face of the Earth where have you been."

"Around...yeah...I dropped out of school...you know with Tony and his dogs always fucking with me it was just better this way."

"Yeah well...Tony and his dogs got there ass kicked really bad a few months ago. Rumor has it that you had something to do with it." Her lip curls more upward in the edge, not to mention the way her nose scrunches up a little. Ok...so I was really focusing on her.

"Me...hell I couldn't hurt a fly." I start to laugh then catch up beside her and her friends as they start walking back down the sidewalk. Or the old me couldn't hurt a fly...the new me well that is someone no one really wants to mess with. "So where are you lovely ladies headed?" I ask as they continue to walk.

"We were just going down to the ice cream shop...you could join us if you want." She says and then her and her friends start to giggle. She shrugs them off and rolls her eyes before looking back at me with a kind hearted smile.

"Ok." I hold the door open as all four of them walk in. They stand in line and order, when it is my turn I order and hand the man a twenty to pay for all of the cones.

"You didn't have to do that. Since when do you have money anyway?"

Yeah she would think that...the poor boy from the other side of tracks that doesn't have shit. The last time I saw her I was living on the streets wearing the same clothes every day. Yeah...that was the old me, that me no longer exist. "Really I don't mind paying and actually I have a really good job now."

"Really...so what does a guy like you do; I mean you dropped out of school after all?" She takes a long lick of her ice cream and love seeing the way some of it is left behind on her sweet lips...it takes everything in me not o reach over and lick it right off.

"I finished school...just not with you guys and I work for a guy that pays well."

"Well...that must be nice."She makes a silly face at her friends and licks the ice cream some more.

We are sitting there minding our own business when the door opens up and in walks Tony and the rest of his little circle of friends. We make eye contact and then he comes over and looks at is sister and then at me. "You should get your ass home where you belong...why the hell are you out with this fucking loser?"

"You're not my father Tony...so stop acting like it. Besides we are just talking." She then gestures towards me. "You remember Atticus from school right...didn't I hear he already kicked your ass once." Her nose wrinkles up before she gives me a wink and it really pisses him off. All her friends burst out laughing but it pisses him off even more.

He reaches down and grabs her arm pulling her up into standing. "And I said get your fucking ass home."

I stand up then coming between the two of them. "I suggest you let go of her."

"And who the fuck do you think you are?" He shoves her behind him. "Stay the fuck away from my sister."

"We were just talking and having some ice cream." I look behind him and see her eyes starting to tear up. "Sara...you don't have to take this shit from him." I hold out my hand for her.

He rears back and is just about to swing at me and I dodge it. I grab him from the back of the head and slam him hard against the table, knocking over the napkin dispenser in the process. All the girls jump up and move away. "You want to take this outside, boy."

"Who the fuck you calling boy." He yells, while squirming underneath my hold.

I jerk him up and force him outside. Once out on the sidewalk he gets in a defense stance ready to come at me. It doesn't work. I have been training for the past several months. I know where to stand, how to dodge someone coming at me, how to turn things around in seconds. As he misses me, I swing and hit him square in the jaw. He stumbles and then once he gathers up his balance he comes back at me. This time I hit him hard in the nose, breaking it, blood spatters all over the ground.

His friends join in then. I don't know why they even bother. I take all three of them down and when I look back up her friends are standing off to the side taking videos of what just went down. I see the way they look at me, should they be all goggly eyed....or be scared shitless of me. I walk over to her. "Sorry about fucking up your brother, but he has no business controlling your life like that." I gesture over to the car. "You want to get out of here?"

"Is that really your car...how?"

I smile from ear to ear. "I told you...I have an amazing boss."

She turns to look back at her friends getting their approval before jumping in the car. "Girl if you don't go with him, I will." Melody says and the rest nod in agreement.

Sara waves them off. "I will catch you guys later." She runs over and jumps in.

I get in with the enormous smile on my face. I start the engine and take off down the road. I watch as she waves her arms in the air above her and then she stands up to let the wind blow against her. She is laughing and singing to the top of her lungs with the radio. I don't think I have ever seen her this happy and carefree. When she finally sits back down she looks over at me and I see it in her eyes...that look. I quickly fight back the thoughts running wild in my head. I mean who am I kidding here...there can never really be an...us. Zane's words keep playing in the back on my mind...don't ever fall in love...they will never understand your world.

"Where do you want to go?" I yell over the music.

"How about the cliff?" She says with a question.I don't think twice about it. I turn off the main road and go up the back way...the cliff is where all the teens go to make out. It's up on a small mountain that overlooks the city. I pull in and since there are no lights up here the night sky is lighted up by the million stars over head. She lean her head back in awe. "I have never been up here...not like this anyway." She says as she continues to look up at the sky.A part of me fells that is a lie...why else would she want to come up here. No girl is going to request to come up her...not with just anyone for the very first time.

"Me either." I tell her which is not a lie...I have never been up here at this time of night and with a girl.

She stops and looks at me longingly. "My brother can be a dick when he wants to be...I'm sorry."

"You don't need to be sorry about your brother's actions. So Sara...how have you really been? Everything going ok at school this year and at home?"

"It's school you know how that is...in a couple of months I will be graduating and leaving this place and believe me I so can't wait to get away from here."I look at the steering wheel, while rubbing my hands around it in a circular motion. She moves over closer to me. When I don't say anything she gets up and maneuvers on top of me, sitting on my lap. She runs her hands through my hair. I reach up and stop her."What...I'm not a little kid Atticus...I asked you to bring me up here didn't I...don't you want this too." When I don't say anything she continues, "I just thought you know...it would be fun. I mean a part of me has always liked you...and I know you kinda like me too...right." 

She starts to unbutton her shirt and then unfastens her bra. She reaches for my and places it over her breast. I go to move it away but she leans in and kisses my lips. Her lips taste like strawberries from her ice cream. They taste so good that I devour them. My hands are wild against her body. I am pulling on her shirt and lifting it for all access. I'm in a rush, fumbling over my own buttoned jeans and zipper. I pull my manhood out and it's like something snaps in my head and I look up at her and she has her eyes closed and I feel that all of this is just in the heat of the moment...like this is just a game to her or maybe I am just doing this to get back at him. Suddenly I'm just not in the mood any longer and I push her away from me."What's the matter?" She looks down at me a little upset.

"Uhm...I forgot the condoms...we can't do this." Which is a huge lie...I have two packets in my wallet. I just can't do this to her.If this is her first time it needs to be special...and if it's not...it still needs to be special you know.

"We will be fine...it's my first time...it's not like I can get pregnant my first time." She makes a cute silly face at me. I still don't see how this is her first time, is she trying to prove something to someone. Either way I start having all these mixed emotions in my head.

Pregnant...oh hell no...I think about early and how Zane was telling me about Addison and how she refused to have a child grow up in that kind of world. I can't do this...not to Sara. "Sara...I'm sorry...I really am...I shouldn't have brought you up here." I pick her up and move her back to the other seat.She jumps out of the car and slams the door really pissed off. I hang my head low, gritting my teeth. "Sara get back in...I will take you home."

"You're an asshole you know that...I come up here willing to give it to you...all of it and you don't want it. What is wrong with you? Is it me...what you don't like what you see?"

"Nothing is wrong...look you are an amazing...beautiful girl and any guy would love to be where I am right now with you...it's just I have so much shit going on in my life right now and...and we don't have protection. I'm not going to be that guy that gets you pregnant and then you are forced to stay in this Godforsaken town the rest of your life. I don't want to be that guy...now get YOUR ASS in the CAR so I can take you HOME." I raise my voice at the end.

"I will walk, thank you." She stomps her foot and huffs then turns and starts walking down the hillside.

I start the car and turn it around and meet her closer to the bottom. "Get in Sara...there are a lot of creeps out there...I can't and won't be responsible if someone murders you."

She stops and glares at me. She looks around and we are in the middle of nowhere. She huffs and then opens the door to get in. I carry her home. Once there she jumps out of the car.

I jump out and run around and stop her before she makes it to the front door. "Sara...I have always liked you...you got to know that." Well...a part of me has always liked her, another part of me couldn't stand to be near her.

"Move out of the way Atticus." She keeps trying to go around me.

"No...I don't want tonight to end this way." I reach down and take my hand and move her hair behind her ear and then my finger traces along her jaw. I lean in and kiss her lightly on the lips.

She kisses me back but then when she pulls away she shakes her head and walks on into the house leaving me out on the lawn.
