Chapter 1.

Hello beautiful reader. This is a story I work on usually when I'm stuck on my other stories. I hope you enjoy it and don't forget to follow me and check out my other stories!

Chapter 1.

Where are we going to live? I’m only 16, they will take Lilly away for sure and who knows where I will end up. No one answers my calls, no one cares. I threw the yellow phonebook at the wall. None of our family wants us. I’m stuck. Mom is dying in the hospital and soon people will find out we are living on our own, Lilly and I will be separated forever. I choked back the cries. I bent down and picked up the pages that I had ripped out. My eyes scanned the page, Ashton Irwin. I felt my heart lurch at the sight of his name. I still remember the day he left. I remember him kissing my forehead and holding me close. He told me he would be back to get me the day he turned 18. He turned 18 over a year ago. I sat on the porch all night, just waiting for him. My big brother never came back to rescue me. I remember trying to call him but his phone was disconnected.

I took in a deep breath and dialed the number slowly. It began to ring, my pulse quickened.

“Hello?” a deep voice spoke. His voice is so different from the last time I heard it.

“Ashton?” I asked.

“Yes, who is this?” Ashton said back.

“Uh, it’s Hayley.” I held my breath.

“Hayley? Hayley as in my little sister Hayley?” his voice softened.

“Yep that’s me.” I said sadly.

“Oh my, it’s been…” he trailed off.

“Two and a half years.” I said.

“Yeah…”

“I need to ask you something, it’s a really big favor.” I spoke.

“What is it?” he asked, his voice returning to normal.

“We need someone to live with; do you think we can stay with you?”

“We?” he asked.

“Our other little sister.” I huffed.

“I don’t know.”

“Mom’s dying and soon Lilly and I are going to get taken away, Ashton please.” I begged.

“Okay, I’ll call Jamie and see.” He still remembers our social workers name, weird.

“Okay. I’ll see you soon.” I said.

“Yep bye.” Not even an I miss you from him.

Two days later, I zipped up our suitcases and placed them on the porch. I sighed as I cleaned up the last bit of mess that my mom had made and looked around the house. I remember when we had happy memories in this house, when my mom was an actual mom. I pushed the memories to the back of my mind when Jamie pulled up in his car. I quickly tugged on a jacket and helped lily into hers before shutting the door and locking the house.

“Hey kiddo’s, ready to head to Sydney tonight?” he asked.

“Yes!” lily cheered.

“I guess.” I mumbled.

“Well let’s get going!” he said getting in the front seat. I quickly buckled in lily before sitting back and looking out the window. I watched as the town that I have known for so long disappeared. I wouldn’t be back. I don’t think ever. I wasn’t sure if I was going to miss it or not. I didn’t really care. I would miss Richie and Whitney but I have to do what is right and is the best for lily, even if that means moving far away.

“Sissy?” lily asked.

“Yes baby.” I said.

“Are we ever going to see mommy again?” she said picking at her fingernails.

“I’m not sure.” I said looking at her. I gave her a big smile and grabbed her small hand. Her fingers wrapped around mine. She kissed my hand sweetly and giggled.

“You girls ready?” Jamie asked enthusiastically.

“Yep.” I said popping the p.

“Alight let’s get a move on then shall we?”

About an hour later we were on a plane and about to take off. I could feel my heart beating in my chest as we got closer to Sydney. We got lucky that a nice lady in about her mid seventy’s too early eighty’s was seated next to us. We talked for most of the flight and we found out she has a grandson in Sydney that she’s going to go see.

“What’s the reason for you heading to Sydney?” she asked taking a sip of her water.

“We are moving in with our brother.” I said gulping.

“Moving in. wow, why not just a visit.” She laughed. My smile faded and she noticed. “What happened?” she said softly.

“My mom’s in the hospital and we had nowhere to live so, he was the only person who would take us in.” I said.

“Well he is a great young man for stepping up to the plate and taking care of his two little sisters.” She said.

“Yeah, he is.” I said with a small smile. Attention passengers please buckle your seatbelts we will be landing in Sydney very soon. I reached over and helped lily and quickly buckled mine. I looked out the window and began to see Sydney appearing just below us.

“You ready to meet Ashton?” I asked lily.

“Yeah.” She said looking out the window.

“Baby what’s wrong?” I scooted closer to her.

“I miss mommy.” Tears pricked in her eyes.

“I do too baby. It will be okay I promise.”

“I hope Ashton is nice to Me.” she said picking at her nails again.

“He will be.” He better be. Ten minutes later we got off the plane and immediately started to look for Ashton.
