She opened her eyes when his lips touched her forehead.

"M-Mako?"

He looked down at her and his eyes filled with tears of joy and relief.

"Korra! Oh god, I thought I'd lost you!" He pulled her in for a hug and gave her a kiss.

"Don't you ever scare me like that ." He told her trying to be serious, but a smile graced his face.

"You can't get rid of me that easily!" She said with a smirk. "I told you I'd be fine! You worry too much."

His face got serious, "Korra. You almost died! You don't realize! You were on the brink of death! When you closed your eyes I thought you were gone! I didn't think you were coming back!" He said, his voice strained.

Her face softened and she pulled him in for a hug, she rubbed his back gently. "Mako, I love you. Don't worry, I'm still here and that's all that  matters."

he pressed there foreheads together. "I love you too, more than anything else."

She grinned and scooted over, making room for him. She patted the spot and he climbed in next to her. She snuggled closer and he wrapped his arms around her. He buried his face in her hair and held her tightly.

"I love you, you know." He murmured into her hair.

She smiled, "Yeah I know."

When she saw his expression she laughed, "I love you too, City boy."

"And there's the nickname again." He rolled his eyes.

She put a hand against his lips to shush him. "Shh, I'm tired. Let me sleep."

He chuckled and nodded, "Goodnight."

She mumbled something in response and then fell asleep.

The next morning when she woke up she was surprised to see everyone in her room. She woke Mako up and they both sat up, she rubbed the sleep from her eyes.

"Hey, what's everyone doing in here?" She asked, stifling a yawn.

"We wanted to see if you were okay! Thank god you are!" Jace said, running to her side.

She laughed, "It's good to see you too."

"Korra, I'm sooooooo glad you're okay!" Bolin said pulling her in for a bear hug and then quickly letting her go when he felt her wince.

"Bo! Be careful!" Mako yelled at him.

"Sorry bro! It's just sometimes I don't realize my own strength!" He appologized.

Korra chuckled a little.

"So... what, um. Happened to Tahno?" She asked hesitantly.

Mako put his arms around her and pulled her closer to him at the mention of Tahno.

"He is in jail. And he will be for quite some time now." Her father said.

She breathed a sigh of relief and snuggled up against Mako. He smiled down at her and then looked up at everyone in the room.

"She's asleep again." He said with a chuckle.

They all nodded and left the room, leaving Mako alone with her. He pulled the blanket one of the nurses left up to her chin and then settled them back down in the bed. He buried his head in her hair and drifted off to a dreamless sleep.

When he awoke Korra wasn't by his side. He was instantly out of the bed and was in a frantic search to find her, he was about to run outside of the room to go find a nurse and tell them but he stopped when he heard a toilet flush. He sighed in relief and went back to the bed to sit down. She was in the bathroom, not in the hands of that monster.

"Morning." She said as she walked out of the bathroom. She was now wearing her usual clothes, not the ugly hospital gown that looked surprisingly good on her.

He cocked an eyebrow at her changing, he was told that she was supposed to stay a few more days. "You're dressed why?"

"I had to get out of that ridiculous hospital gown thingy. It was really uncomfortable and a little revealing since the back was open." She said with a blush.

He smiled and opened his arms for her to come into, she accepted the gesture gladly and sank into his chest.

"When do i get out of here? It's like a stupid prison and it's so dull! Everything is white... they need a little blue here and there." She said pointing to the places that could use some blue, which according to her, was everywhere.

"In a few more days." He said.

She groaned.

"I'll see what I can do, maybe I can make you stay here a bit shorter but I don't want to take you out of here to soon." He warned.

She rolled her eyes, "I know, 'I need to stay here until I'm 100% sure I'm okay.' I've heard it before. Don't remind me."

"I said I'd at least try." Mako reminded her.

She leaned up and gave him a kiss, "And I'm saying thank you."

Time skip to the next week at School and her first day back

Korra walked into the school with Mako, Bolin, and Asami. Mako had his arm around her waist, as always, and he walked her to everyone of her classes. Korra didn't want people to think she was weak just because she was shot before. If anything she was stronger! So she kept her head held high and did everything in all her classes just like everyone else, she didn't want anyone's sympathy. Not even Mako's, she didn't need him watching over her every two seconds. But she did kind of enjoy it, it showed how much he cared about her and that made her love him even more.

"I'll see you at lunch." Mako said when he dropped her off at her next class.

She smiled and walked inside, he grabbed her by the waist and swung her around to face him. He looked down at her with a smirk. She raised one eyebrow in confusion.

"You never gave me my goodbye kiss." He said.

She rolled her eyes and leaned up to kiss him. "Love you." She said.

"I love you too." He said, his eyes showing all the meaning in those words.

*At lunch*

Korra sat down next to Mako and opened her lunch.

"Mmmmm it's been way to long since I've had a decent meal! Hospital makes you wanna barf." She said with a shudder.

Mako chuckled and opened his lunch, so did everyone else at the table. Korra was about to bite into her sandwich when she felt a shadow creep up on her and the table. She turned around and saw that Howl was the one that created the shadow.

"Can I help you?" Korra asked rather rudely.

"Yeah! You-" He pointed a finger at her chest. "-told Lexi not to go out with me! Did it ever occur to you that maybe I like her?!"

Korra looked shocked. "That was like a month ago! Why are you  yelling at me now ?!" She asked.

Mako got up and was standing between her and Howl. "Hey man, you'd better back off. I'm not joking."

Howl looked at Mako with fear in his eyes and then looked at Korra with disgust.

"Have fun with your slut Mako." He said turning around.

That really pissed Mako off, he grabbed Howl by the shoulder and pinned his arm behind his back. "What the fuck did you just say?" He growled. "Be careful what you say, one wrong move and I can break your arm with one flick of the wrist." Mako warned when Howl opened his mouth.

"Nothing!" He said, wincing in pain.

"That's not what I heard." Mako growled.

"I'm sorry! Come on man! Let me go!" He yelled, struggling in his grip.

"Only because I'm feeling nice today." Mako sighed and then let him go. Howl ran out of the cafeteria in fear, when he left everyone laughed and then went back to there lunches.

"Thanks Mako, it's good to know you will have my back." Korra said, kissing Mako.

"I'll always have your back even if the cost was my life ." He whispered.
