CHAPTER ONE

LIFE IN NEW YORK

"Now, I have done some backup research and given you all assignments for next month's paper." Miss Holloway announced to the room full of Journalists, as she threw pieces of paper down on the table, "First in First Serve."

The Journalists lunged at the papers, taking the one they wanted quickly, as Avery watched the behave immaturely from behind, but by the time Avery made it the table. All the good stories were gone, the only thing left was the cities Beauty Pageant and one other file.

As the writers scrambled out of the room Miss Holloway groaned putting a hand to her forehead, she reached down and looked at the two files, and chuckled to herself. She then looked up at Avery.

"It's very easy for the men to push their way to the front isn't it Miss Greenwalt?" She asked slowly her lips pursed together as Avery let out a small chuckle in response as she frowned and held up one of the files, "Typical, I've been trying to send someone to Hawkins for years, but everyone really is too scared."

Avery raised an eyebrow walking over to her boss and poised a question, "What's so scary about a small town." Miss Holloway laughed before sitting back down in her office chair at the edge of the long table.

"Hawkins you see, is the gold mine of stories, Murder, Mysterious Earthquakes, and Government Coverups." Miss Holloway says to the young girl peaking her attention, as Avery she picked up the file.

"I could go." Avery replied looking up at the older woman, who perked up out of her seat immediately.

Miss Holloway smiled happily, "That would be amazing, I'll book you and Noland plane tickets right now." Avery nodded before grabbing the file and walking out of the office. But she couldn't help but have a feeling, she'd just made a huge mistake.

"Noland! You'll never believe what I just got us!" Avery called out opening the door to their shared apartment. It smelt like lavender, Noland had always been a cleaner.

"Please don't tell me we are going to the pageant. AGAIN!" Noland called out from somewhere inside the apartment. This made Avery chuckle as she set her handbag down on the counter.

"Nope. I got us the Hawkins job." Avery called back out into the apartment, Noland appeared super fast a bright smile on his face, "The one everyone else is too scared to take." One thing about Noland was he was a huge horror fan, and loved everything scary.

"Yes that one. Now go pack a bag, we leave tomorrow." Avery squealed before walking off to go shower, and rinse the day off of her.

She stared at herself in the mirror, as she took out her hair. And she picked up her towel and jumped into the shower.

Noland and Avery shifted in their seats as they sat down on the plane. The pair of them both disliked flying, but they both knew that they needed to get to Hawkins quickly to start the story.

A female voice came over the top of the speakers, as Avery stuck her headphones connected to her Walkman in.

"Now commencing the flight to Hawkins, Indiana. Please remain in your seats."
