Repeated
He didn't want to do it again.
He didn't want to hear their voices. He didn't want to see their faces. He didn't want to see them die.
But fate had other plans.
In the hangar he didn't feel much, just a cold sense of pride in his intelligence and the fact that the killing game would hopefully stop because of his plan, even if everyone hated him, he was okay with that.
But that was a lie. He did care that people hated him, he was just telling himself that he didn't care to make himself feel better about needing to play the role of villian. Sometimes he didn't know what was a lie and what was the truth, he's told lies as a sort of protection for as long as he can remember.
He thought he had found peace in the fact he was going to die. But as the press was slowly lowering down on his frail body a piercing thought shot through his mind. And it was the first though that was the complete truth that he had had in a long time.
'I don't want to die!'
BANG
...and that was the last thought Kokichi Ouma ever had before his body turned to mush.
~~~
It was cold.
That was the first thing he felt when he woke up. He immediately felt confused as to why he was feeling anything, he was supposed too be dead. He tried to raise his arms up, key word 'tried' as he was met with a cold hard surface, it was at that point he realized he was encased in a small metal coffin of some sorts.
His breath started to quicken and he pushed at the metal surface. To his shock to flew open and he fell out face first onto the ground.
"Ugghhh..oww" Kokichi groaned in pain, he was considering not getting up at all. After all, he was dead right? But that did raise the question of where the hell he was, and why he could feel things like cold and pain. So curiosity got the better of him and he shakily got up from the ground-
What?
This is the classroom that he woke up in at the start.. of the.... game.
No. No. Nonono. This can't be right! He hastily scanned the room for Kiibo, hell, anyone. But he didn't see anyone in the room with him. Though he did spot that the locker that was next to his was starting to shake.
Panicking, he quickly hid himself, and watched warily. He wanted to confirm his suspistion.
And who came tumbleing out of the locker than the ultimate robot himself.
He was hoping, praying, that Kiibo would show some sort of alarm on his face, he wanted to know that he wasn't the only one who knew what this place was. But to his horror the robot only had a look of confusion and curiosity on his face.
When Kiibo was distracted he dashed out of the classroom.
He already knew his way around so he headed straight to the gym. He wanted to get there before anybody else did, he needed to find a good hiding spot. He didn't want to see their faces again.
He was pretty quiet, and fast, so nobody saw him dashing through the halls of the ultimate academy. He didn't see anyone either though, he must be been one of the first ones to wake up. Good, it only increased his chances of being the first one to go to the gym.
He raced towards the doors, pushed them open and quickly stepped inside. He let out a sigh of relief and slumped a bit against the door. But when he opened his eyes a nauseating sight awaited him.
Kirumi Tojo, the ultimate maid stood in the centre of the room. (I know Kirumi was in the dorms but shut up-)
His eyes widened as he felt the colour drain from his face as he stared blankly at the person he saw get brutally executed it front of him. His shock and slight fear must have been visible because soon the maid spoke up.
"Are you alright? You seem quite pale." There was no mistaking it, that was Kirumi's voice. Kokichi opened his mouth to respond but nothing came out, he tried to think of a lie, a witty remark, hell anything. But no matter how much to tried the words were caught in his throat.
He didn't want to look like an idiot so he forced himself to speak, "U-uh.. No I-Im fine.." he lied. He just wanted to get out of this situation, so he thought of a quick lie.
"I was j-just running f-for a while b-before this." He cursed himself for stuttering and it wasn't the best lie. But it did it's job and Kirumi got off his case. They introduced themselves and talked for a short while ( despite Kokichis discomfort).
"Well if your sure you are alright, I'm going to go look around and see if anyone requires my assistance." Then the maid showed herself out of the gym.
Kokichi immediately found a decent hiding spot and took a moment to slow down and think. This had to be a joke right? There's no way Kirumi could be alive. He watched her get killed... But that was Kirumi... That was her face her voice. But how...
He didn't know how long he was sat there contemplating the logic of his situation, but it must have been a while as he was snapped out of his thoughts by the announcement to call everyone to gym. He figured that he would stay in his hiding spot, and he was in the gym, so he thought it was fair game. He also didn't want to see everyone's faces again, seeing Kirumi was enough.
So he kept his head down and simply listened as everyone slowly filed into the gym. Luckily No one spotted him in his improvised hiding spot, one of the perks of being so small is that you are amazing at hide and seek.
The speach went exactly as he remembered, and hearing everyone's voices again, was chilling to say the least.
He waited with baited breath as everyone followed Gonta out of the gym to go and challenge the death road of despair. When he was sure everyone was gone, he let out a sigh of relief, and quickly made his way to the dorms.
He didn't want to do this again. So he wouldn't.
He didn't really have a plan this time, he just wanted to be alone. So when he hear everyone comeing back to the dorms soon after the night time anouncment played, he was sure to remain silent, giving no clues he was even there.
It might have been everyone's exhaustion, but luckily, no one batted an eye at the locked door. Which made Kokichi sigh in relief once more.
As long as no one noticed him, he would be fine-
Wait.
Crap.
Kirumi saw him, she would no doubt tell everyone when she saw him missing. And she night have already told someone...
Oh well, if he ignored them then they will go away... he didn't need anyone. He couldn't do it. Not anymore. He couldn't hold up this charade of lies anymore. Not after he'd seen everyone he cared for die right in front of him.
He walked over to his bed and plopped down on the sheets, which were amazingly comfortable compared to cold hard metal. Speaking of that Damn press, no matter how hard he tried Kokichi couldn't fall asleep. He tossed and turned for hours but whenever he stoped and opened his eyes for a moment, all he could see was the ceiling slowly closing in on him.
After about 3 hours he fell asleep on his side.
He opened his eyes and found himself in the trail room again, it was Gonta's trial. The bulk of it was done and they were all waiting for the execution.
No.. no, nononoNONO! Not this again, anything but this! He tried to scream but couldn't as he stood frozen in place with his words dying in his throat. Gonta was chained up to the same wooden plank and was bombarded with robo-hornets that came at him like bullets, monophanie was in the background going into labour and then a huge monster of a bug exploded from the pink monokub. The green mega wasp sliced monophanie and monotaro in two and charged at gonta who was still silent with a stoic face. The insects blade like hands cut through gontas torso with ease. Finally breaking the stoney expression on the entomologists face.
Kokichi wanted to yell, scream, hell even move. But both his mind and body were frozen in place as the event unfolded in the background. Monokuma busted out a flamethrower and finished the job. The smell of burning flesh invaded the court room, if Kokichi was queasy before this, he was afraid he was about to throw up now.
Then shortly after, the oddly peaceful silence was broken. By Maki, Kaito and Tsumugi demanding to know the secret of the outside world. He didn't want to tell them, to throw them into despair. He just wanted them to be quiet! The voices kept getting louder and louder, it was deafining. Static invaded his hearing it got gradually louder until in formed an ear splitting screech-
He gasped as he shot up out of bed. It was a dream, no, a nightmare. Kokichi wasted no time as he ran into his bathroom to vomit. The nightmare was so vivid he could still faintly smell rotting flesh, although one thing was different now, at long last it was silent. Kokichi wasn't going to go back to sleep, not after that. So he decided to simply enjoy the silence while it lasted, because he was sure that in the morning people would be knocking at his door.
~~~
Sure enough, Kokichi was right. And he hated when he was right.
The pleasant stillness was destroyed when he heard loud knocking at his door, Kokichi looked at the clock on his monopad and it revealed that it was 8am, great he was supposed to be meeting with everyone in the dinning hall. They probably came knocking to get him after they discovered he was missing, no doubt Kirumi spilled the beans.
It wasn't long before a voice came from the other side of the door, "Hello? Is anyone in there?" Ah, it was Kaede. She was an okay person, her blind optimism was a bit annoying. But not that bad when it came to admitting the truth.
Still though, he didnt respond. He didn't want to. He wanted to stay silent, giving no clues he was even there. Unfortunately, given that he already had a witness, and there was a sign above this door with a pixel version of him, people would know that that someone was in there.
Hell, even if he did want to speak he wouldn't know what to say. So he just stayed silent and let Kaede continue. "Uh, if there is someone in there, then don't be scared about the killing game! We will find a way to escape I'm sure of it! If we all stick toghether we can do anything!" She said with an encouraging tone of voice.
If this was Kokichi's first time in this position, he might've felt the smallest bit of courage at her words. But he had already seen what happened to them when they 'worked together'. They die. So instead he just tasted the salty flavour of irony.
"I don't know if anyone's in there, or I'm just talking to a door haha.." Kokichi could tell by her trailing off at the end that she was running out of things to say. Still he didn't say anything.
Soon after Kaede left, defeated from not getting an answer. This continued for a number of nights, with everyone at one point saying something to try and get Kokichi out of his room.
Even people like Ryoma and Korekiyo gave it a shot, although it still had the same result. Silence. Kokichi didn't even hear them sometimes, he completely blocked out any sound and was just focusing on staying awake.
That was until an unlikely person gave it a shot to get him out of his dorm, Maki. Her voice was very sharp and cut through the silence like a knife. Her clear and agitated tone made it clear that she was sick and tired of everyone needing to coax this boy out of his room. "If you don't come out of that room. You'll die of starvation, you idiot."
Shit.
She was right, Kokichi was so focused on not falling asleep again he completely forgot about doing litterally anything else. Which means he hasn't eaten in like, 2 days. And now that the assassin had pointed it out Kokichi acknowledged that he was starving.
Well he didn't want to leave his room, but he also didn't want to die. He admitted that a while ago... He didn't want his life to be wasted. If he died he wanted it to be for a bigger purpose, so staying here and letting his life waste away was not an option.
Kokichi knew that he had to go to the dinning hall, but when and how where bigger problems. How was a problem because he hadn't eaten or slept for 2 days straight, so he doubted that he had the strength or energy to sprint. So he opted to go slow and undetected rather than fast and unseen.
When was a problem because if you wanted to get to the kitchen you had to go through the dinning hall. And he didn't want to be seen by anyone. A simple in and out.
Go in, get food, leave. That was the plan. He certainly wasn't going at 8am, even though that was when the doors were unlocked, Kirumi was often there to make breakfast for anyone. And he doubted he could even slip out of his room at that time because that was when Kaito and Kaede came to try and coarse him to come out.
And he couldn't go out in daytime because, 1. He had a higher chance of being seen in the light, and 2. There was a higher chance of people being in the dinning hall hanging out. So going in the day was of the table.
That left him with 1 option. Night time. It felt like the best option because 1 not that many people would be in the dinning hall at night, they'd mostly be in their rooms. 2. The night sky will help him with being stealthy, and 3. Monokuma restock the food just about every night. So if he took alot if food just before the doors lock, no-one would know that he was there.
Ok. So now he just had to wait until about 9:50pm and then he would make his move. Giving him 10 minutes to get to the kitchen take some food and get out. Ok. He could do this.
~~~
When it was time he opened his door just a tad to see if anyone was outside. The coast was clear, he quickly opened his door and just as quickly closed it, as to not make an obnoxious creaking noise. Kokichi knows how to be stealthy, thanks to his... past. So getting around the academy was no problem, especially because he already knew the layout out of it.
He slowly but surely made his way to the dinning hall and didn't seen anyone in the courtyard, which was a bit surprising, but I guess no-one trusts eachother yet. Which was good for him as it hopefully meant no-one was out of there rooms are all!
Kokichi approached the kitchen with care, however the lack of sleep made him a lot less observant than he usually was.
He missed a timid detective in the corner, watching ing his every move.
Now, Kokichi was only here to get the essentials, Panta, bread, other snacks to last him a while... more Panta. And while he was getting his food. Shuichi closed in on him at the kitchen door, the detective was filled with a surprisingly big amount of confidence, Shuichi couldn't quite put his finger on it. But he felt as if he had seen this mysterious boy somewhere before.
Kokichi took everything his tiny arms could carry and turned around to almost drop all of it when he saw Shuichi standing in the doorway, neither of the two boys dared to say anything. The tension was so thick you could cut it with a knife.
Eventually Shuichi dared to speak, "Uh... hi..." but that didn't do much to ease the awkwardness, hell, neither of them knew what the heck to say, this whole situation was unexpected. Kokichi expected to be here and gone with some food, and Shuichi expected to be on his way to his room by now.
If Kokichi could die right then and there he would. But unfortunately fate really loved to mess with him. So he was forced to respond. "...Hello."
"Um.. Kirumi said that your name was Kokichi..is that right?" Shuichi asked hesitantly, he wanted to know all he could about this boy. So he thought his name would be a good place to start.
"Uh, yep that's me.." Kokichi wanted to get out of this situation as quickly as possible. He wanted to go back to his room where he could...
Wait. What was he going to do? What was his end goal in all of this? Originally he wanted to end the game but now that everything he thought was true had been thrown out the window... What was he going to do?
Shuichi noticed how completely out of it he looked and then took a minute to fully examine this mysterious boy, his hair was seemingly defying gravity, and it was all over the place. His face itself was a ghostly shade of white, the palest skin he'd ever seen. His clothes were wrinkled and worn, and he over all looked like he just woke up. But that couldn't be the truth, because one glace at his eyes revealed almost black eye bags underneath big violet eyes that were staring into space.
"You look like you haven't slept in days... are you okay?" Shuichi's voice broke Kokichi out of his thoughts.
Kokichi didn't respond for a minute as he was to wrapped up in figuring out what to do with his time. Last time he tried to go at it alone, with everyone hating him they had a common enemy to hate. But that only made things worse when people like Maki tried to kill him. Now that he thought about it, he wondered what would have happened if he worked together with the group... would things have been different?
Well, if hiding out in his room wasn't an option, Mabye this time things would be better if he didn't hide behind a veil of lies. Mabye it would be better if he helped directly. But still, Kokichi was hesitant to let people in, because of his... unpleasant background. So he thought it would be best not to reveal his true self until Shuichi had earned his full trust.
"U-uh...hello?" Shuichi called out, and Kokichi snapped to attention once again. "Oh! Uh, s-sorry I zoned out" Kokichi was being surprisingly more truthful now, Mabye this was because he wanted a second chance? After all No one fully knew that he was a liar yet.
"Well... are you going to go back to your room or?" Usually Kokichi would've made a witty remark about how mean Shuichi was to assume that, but he couldn't really blame him considering he hasn't left his room in the entire time they've been in the academy. "Well, I would've thought you would expose me by now, y'know, like... to the other students" Kokichi was careful not to let and info that he wasn't supposed to know yet slip. "Oh! Well... I know what it's like to be scared, so, I won't tell anyone if you don't want me to."
Kokichi was taken aback by this kindness as it was something almost alien to him, but nevertheless, he appreciated it. "Really?... thanks." Kokichi was never good at giving or receiving kindness, so it just felt kinda of awkward all over again.
Fortunately, this feeling did not last long as the night time anouncment came through on the monitors, and a certain monochrome bear showed up to usher the two boys out of the dinning hall.
"Well well well, looks like mystery boy finally came out of hiding!" Monokuma made his presence known by shattering the silence which startled both boys.
Kokichi was almost regretting letting himself get caught, and Shuichi was worried about what Monokuma was going to do next. "What should I do with you two?" Apon hearing this Shuichi tensed up "We'll just leave!" He almost shouted, which surprised both Kokichi and the robotic bear. "Wow! Looks like the detective has got guts! Well, for surprising me like that I guess I could let this slip" Both boys sighed in relief apon hearing this, and quickly scampered out of the dinning hall.
Despite everything, Kokichi still somehow had the food he collected in his arms. And he took the opportunity to slip away from Shuichi, how was still processing everything that just happened. By the time the detective broke out of his trance when he saw a flash of purple dart away back to the dorms.
Shuichi contemplated following this mysterious boy back to the dorms, but he figured that he would want some privacy. So he just kept the encounter in his memories and walked back to his own dorm...
Part 2 coming soon
