21. Making Amends
Eric POV
"I think it's time I talk to my mother." I said to my mates as we were laying in bed.
"Are you sure you're ready? You're pregnant with twins. What if she flips and we lose you three?" Adin says.
"I'll take a warrior or two and we're meeting in public. Just because I'm ready to talk to her means I forgive her but we have kids and all of your families have met and accepted them and I don't want her to feel left out or feel just because I'm upset at her that I don't want her to see the kids. All our families are going to be here for Odin, Alvin, and Calvin's welcoming ceremony." I said.
"The welcoming ceremony isn't for a while. We just don't want you hurting any more than you already are but we'll support you no matter what." Vince said kissing me.
"Before I even meet with her I have to go pick up Holt from the hospital, Ronnie said he's ready to come home." Caleb smiled at that news.
"I miss my baby." Caleb said and we all chuckled.
"We should get up, the babies should be up soon." Nathan said, chuckling.
"But I don't wanna..." Vince whined.
"If you don't get up we're going on a sex strike." Caleb warned and we all laughed when Vince jumped out of bed.
"You all, are assholes." He grumbled going to the bathroom.
When we all finished taking a shower and ate breakfast I got up from around the table and went to see if our babies were up.
"Morning baby boy, what are you doing up so early on a weekend?" I asked Altan as he was rocking Calvin and Odin in his arms.
"They were going to start crying and wake up Alvin and I didn't want you guys to worry so I just rocked them and cradled them. Odin is hungry though and I already changed Calvin which by the way, what are you guys feeding him?" He scrunched up his face.
"They drink what infants drink, milk." I chuckled.
"Well, what came out of that diaper could knock someone out." He gagged.
"I'll take note of that." I shook my head.
He looked at me and looked at the babies.
"What's wrong baby boy?" I looked at him.
"I had a vision of a man named Brent, he grew up to be a horrible man, he was forced into the life of a hunter. I saw his childhood and it was scary papa. From the age of three, he was forced to watch videos of feral creatures attacking innocent people and see things no child should. He wants to believe there's good in them but he's lost and confused, he doesn't know who or what to believe. His family feeds him with lies and he's going mad, he needs help, taught a difference between the two." He bit his lip.
"Kiddo, hunters are rare these days since war broke out years ago. Are you sure this wasn't a vision of the past?" He shook his head.
"I know what I saw papa." I nodded.
"I'll have Caleb call Liam to look into it. It'll be ok baby boy." He smiled.
If hunters are coming we have to be prepared and if they're torturing and corrupting children with lies, most will never know the truth but what they're taught.
"If it is of the present, we'll help him any way possible if he'll let us." I said.
"And if he puts up a fight?" I sighed.
"We have to protect the family, if it's a fight he wants, we'll have no choice but to put him down along with the rest of them who have lost their humanity." I said seriously. If they're going to behave like ferals, we'll treat them as such.
"Ok, Papa." He looked down.
In no way is Altan a killer or has the means to hurt anyone. Altan is the polar opposite of a killer. He'll rationalize and try to talk before anything. The only time he ever killed any was a year ago. A rogue pack attacked and we were outnumbered until Altan came home from school and we all blacked out, how, no one knows. All anyone remembers is him growling and we all woke up to the rogue pack dead and Altan sobbing on the patio hugging himself. We had an autopsy done on one of the rogues and the rogue died from a brain hemorrhage. Most of them died that way, others died in other ways. We didn't want him afraid of his powers but he made several wolves turn to pink mist. He's more powerful than Skylar or even Caleb combined. Our creators call him the bridge between life and death.
"Don't worry baby boy, do you wanna go with me to pick up Holt?" I asked, trying to cheer him up.
"Yea!" He giggles and we put Calvin and Odin back to bed.
When we left it was about ten and I was meeting my mother around noon so I had time to get Holt and take him and Altan home.
"Papa, do you think Kase and Holt are going to be ok with the trial?" I looked at him.
"What do you mean baby boy?" I asked.
"Seeing the people who hurt them. It may trigger bad thoughts." He said.
"We'll be there for them at the trial baby boy." I said squeezing his hand a little.
When we got to the hospital we got a visitor's sticker and took the elevator to the floor Holt was on.
"Hey Eric, just in time. Holt just got back from his last visit from seeing a fertility specialist." Ronnie said.
"What's the good news?" He shook his head.
"I don't know what to tell you, Midnight has done all he can but it doesn't seem possible." He said.
"It would take a miracle, one I can't do, unfortunately." He sighed.
"Thanks for trying." I said.
"No problem, hopefully, like the rest of us mating will help him heal or I'm afraid he'll fall too deep and we lose him." He said.
After a little while, transport brought Holt back.
"Hey, kiddo." I said to Holt as he looked dazed and lost.
"Are you ready to go home?" I asked. Still nothing.
"Hey, babe I got us..." Kase began to say as he walked in.
"What happened to him?" Kase asks, panicked.
"We don't know." I said. I do know but, I rather not bring it up.
When we got Holt into the car, we drove home and helped him into the house.
"Welcome home baby boy!" Caleb said smiling.
"What happened?" He asked in our link.
"He's infertile." Was all I said before Caleb hugged Holt.
"And there's nothing we can do?" He said looking at me.
"I was stabbed by my mother a few times in my past and I still got pregnant so we just have to stay hopeful. Maybe someone can be a donor, I honestly don't know much more but we can't give up." I said.
"Stallion, look, the babies like me!" Kase smiled holding Calvin and Alvin.
"Kase it's not the time." Caleb growled out.
"Sorry." He handed the kids to Vince.
I looked at Kase and I can see the guilt and the longing in his eyes for a child of his own one day.
"Call Connor, maybe he can help Holt like he did for your dad. You know with counseling and what not." I said and he nodded.
"I would stay but I have to go meet my mother." I groaned.
"It's not too late to cancel." Adin said.
"Unfortunately it is, the witch is blowing up my phone as we speak." I said looking at the missed calls and texts.
Before I left they all said bye minus Holt and drove off with four warriors following behind.
When I pulled up to the outside dining place I sat down in front of her.
"Satan." I greeted
"Eric." She said.
"Well, talk." I said.
"Excuse me, I'm still your moth..." I stopped her.
"You lost that right the minute you kicked me out. You made my life a living hell for six years. You not only stabbed me fifteen times when I was eight and locked me in a cage in the woods so ferals would attack me but you've done some fucked up shit. Now I came here to be civil and try to make amends because not only am I pregnant and want you in my kids' life but I just found out my oldest son may be infertile the rest of his life unless we can find a miracle. So don't come at me and bullshit around because I'm not going to sit here and have you bitch about my choices." I glared at her.
"So that's all you got? At least I fed you." I huffed and got up.
"When you want to get off that high horse come find me." I said.
"Gun!" I heard someone yell before I blackout.
