~~~~~
I was right about one thing. I slept like shit last night, and now I have to go meet my team for a mission I know is going to go wrong.
"Breakfast is ready!"
I adjusted my glasses by pushing them up my nose and swung my pack onto my shoulder, grabbing my bow and quiver before heading into the dining room. I set my things down next to my chair and looked towards the kitchen, where Tenzo stood in his stupid pink apron.
Tenzo glided into the dining room with a plate stacked high with pancakes. He put two large ones on my plate and three on his, drowning them in syrup. He passed the syrup to me and I lightly drizzled it on top. I honestly don't feel much like eating right now.
"Are you excited for your first mission outside of the village?" Tenzo asked, cutting into his fluffy pancakes.
"More worried than excited," I admitted, pushing my food around. "So many things could go wrong in an instant."
"Don't worry so much, you and your team are all very strong and talented." Tenzo said, pointing his knife at me from across the table. "Besides, you have Kakashi-senpai on your team."
"That's true, my team isn't helpless." I smiled. "Thanks for breakfast Tenzo, but I should get going, wouldn't want to be late after all."
"Get going already!" Tenzo chuckled.
I swung my bag onto a shoulder and put my quiver over the other shoulder, grabbing my bow in my right hand. I made my way to the front door and opened the door, facing Tenzo once more.
"Bye, Tenzo!" I said, waving.
"Bye! Be safe!" Tenzo replied, turning his face away. "Now go!"
I think he's crying. What the hell? I shake my head and slip away. Tenzo was such a drama queen.
I try and relax on my way to the village gates, my nerves had gone crazy and I was anxious to get this mission over with. Who knows, maybe me being here changed events so dramatically that this will turn out to be a normal C-rank? Who am I kidding, this is going to be a grade-A total cluster fuck.
The sun had barely risen and the morning was cool, but not too cool. Despite how pleasant this morning was, it didn't help to soothe my worries. I approached the gates and the booth, waving good morning to Kotetsu and Izumo as I walked up to my team. Sakura and Sasuke were already there, along with the client, Tazuna. Sakura made doe eyes at Sasuke as he ignored her, and Tazuna continued to drink. Apparently, the time of day doesn't matter when you're an old drunk like Tazuna. His drinking could even be a coping mechanism for something.
Sasuke glanced at his watch, a look of irritation clearly on his face. Sakura ignored his cues to leave him be and continued complimenting him and gushing over him. I decided to step in.
"Morning Sakura, Sasuke!" I chirped, brushing past Tazuna.
Tazuna shrugged and continued drinking.
"Oh, morning Yuuto!" Sakura cheerfully replied.
I paused for a moment, letting some of my surprise bleed onto my face. She hadn't referred to me rudely, although ever since the bell test, she's been nicer. I covered up my moment of shock with a small, friendly smile.
"Morning." Sasuke grunted, looking t his watch again.
There was no doubt that it was now well past 7 am, and neither Kakashi nor Naruto had arrived.
"So, Kakashi-sensei and Naruto haven't arrived yet?" I ask although I knew the answer.
"I expected Naruto to be here on time, but I'm not surprised in Kakashi-sensei's case." Sakura scoffed, rolling her eyes with a smirk.
"Yeah, the day Kakashi-sensei arrives on time is the day the world ends." I chuckled.
I leaned up against the huge wall that was Konoha's main entrance and sit down, laying my bow across my lap and closing my eyes. The sounds of Sakura talking and Tazuna laughing in an intoxicated manner eventually were drowned out by the sound of the rushing wind, which played with loose strands of my tail. I felt my wings yearn for the winds touch, however, I pressed the feeling down, settling for listening to the sound of the wind and other birds. I was rudely snapped out of my daydreaming when I heard Naruto's boisterous voice.
"Yeah! First time out of the village!" Naruto hollared, hauling a backpack that was so full it dropped a container of cup ramen every time he moved.
I lazily open my eyes, standing up once I notice Kakashi-sensei had already arrived.
"Where's Yuuto?" Naruto asked. "I want to go already!"
"I'm right here, idiot." I said, making him turn around quickly.
His eyes landed on me and I gave him a lazy wave.
"Then let's go!" Naruto chirped.
"Alright, time for our first C-rank team." Kakashi smiled, or at least he probably did.
Before any of us could get any further, Kotetsu coughed.
"Sorry Kakashi," Kotetsu said, holding out a clipboard. "But you forget to fill out the paperwork."
"Dammit," Kakashi hissed. "I hoped you'd forget."
"What can we say? It's our job." Izumo shrugged.
"Good luck reading the paperwork." Kakashi snorts.
~~~~~

"I didn't think your handwriting was that bad, Kakashi-sensei." I said, grimacing at the memory of him writing on that clipboard.

Kakashi ignores me, simply shrugging.

"Alright team, now we can leave on our first C-rank." Kakashi said.

"Finally!" Naruto exclaimed, jumping forward. "I'm one step closer to becoming Hokage!"

"You? Hokage?" Tazuna snorts. "I'm not drunk enough to believe that one. When you become Hokage, I'll sprout wings and fly."

"Prepare to fly you old drunk!" Naruto roared, turning on Tazuna with determination instead of anger.

"Whatever, brat." Tazuna shrugs, taking another huge swig of what I guessed was sake, not water.

I rolled my eyes, smiling just a little bit. Naruto just did that to a person, he manages to make positivity contagious. I just hope that being an idiot isn't contagious too.

"As nice as this little talk is, it's time to take the mission seriously." Kakashi said, glancing up from reading his book. "Diamond formation team, Naruto, take point, Sakura, the right flank, Sasuke, the left flank, and Yuuto, our long-range fighter, will bring up the caboose."

"Hai!" We chorused leaping into position around the client.

I nocked an arrow, that way I was ready in case of an attack. Kakashi walked beside me, placing a hand on my shoulder in a comforting way.

"Don't be so tense, nothing is going to happen," Kakashi whispered to me, not looking up from his little orange book. "Besides, you all have me here."

If I hadn't already had prior knowledge of some of his skill, I would doubt him.

"I'm just nervous, I haven't been out of the village since I came here." I replied, only having some truth in my words.

I have flown out of the village before, but I've never set foot outside the daunting gates. I guess I'm just scared of getting in trouble. I would hate to be separated from Tenzo, Hinata and my team. They've grown on me.

I had been relaxed until I spotted the puddle that was just up ahead. All of the calmness I had recently acquired was gone. I looked to Kakashi urgently, but he just smiled, nodding his head.

The fuck does he mean?!

I wasn't going to my answers either, because right after we passed the puddle, my fears about this mission came true. Kakashi-sensei was ripped to shreds and we were being charged.
