"That's it?" Shen Qingqiu asked Xie Lian when his hands stopped glowing. His face was sweating, then he sat down looking exhausted and Feng Xin gave him a little bottle of red liquid, which he drank it all at once.
"Rejuvenation tonic." He answered Shen Qingqiu's questioning eyes. "And yes, it's finished. Xianxian is in his… or I should say, her new body now." Xie Lian chuckled, and his eyes glinted naughtily. He seemed suspiciously having too much fun with all this fiasco.
"Well, he must be very surprised later when he wakes up, which will be in…?"
"I have no idea." Xie Lian answered calmly. "This is the first time I do this kind of… thing, as a matter of fact." He calmly sipped the tea that was prepared by Feng Xin. "Too many unknown variables. But I'm pretty sure Xianxian will wake up… soon enough."
Shen Qingqiu was stunned. He didn't know if he wanted to strangle Xie Lian or stab him to death. But both actions were futile anyway since his dogs were around. Not to mention the newest puppy he acquired in the form of the Ghost King, who looked at him like he was some kind of a god or whatever. Well, he was some kind of a god, or whatever, so it made sense that Hua Cheng became so enamored, especially when Xie Lian gave him that smile that made his eyes crinkled. Shen Qingqiu could see Hua Cheng's gave Dianxia a heart eye back and he sighed.
Then he heard Lan Wangji groan.
Xie Lian quickly snapped his fingers and asked Feng Xin for the same red liquid, and gave it to Lan Wangji to drink. Hua Cheng took it and he carefully poured the liquid into Lan Wangji's mouth.
"How are you feeling, Wangji?" He propped Lan Wangji with his arms until he was half sitting.
"Like I've been hit by a bus." He clutched his heart where the array was placed before, and noticed that it was gone. "How's Wei Ying? Is it…?" He turned his head to try to see the body and groan in pain.
"We have succeeded, Lan Wangji. It's just a matter of time before Wei Ying is going to wake up. You need to rest for now, to regain the loss of blood. That was quite a loss there you know." Xie Lian answered him and offered him a glass of the dark liquid. "Tea?"
"How long until Wei Ying… wakes up?" Lan Wangji was anxious to find out if there's anything wrong with the soul transfer. He forced himself to stand up and came closer to observe the new body more closely.
The woman was very tall, almost 180 cm with a strong and lean body, and she was covered in some kind of black matte suit. She had a very beautiful mixed-race face, transparent and smooth skin, long dark lashes, straight nose, thin pink lips, dark long hair to her waist with bangs covering her forehead. In short, she looked like a woman version of the original Wei Wuxian. Lan Wangji wondered if this was all fate's doing. Then he touched her face softly. He could see that the skin was warm, just like a normal human. She looked like she was just asleep and waited for someone to kiss her to wake her up. But not now. He had to say his goodbye first.
Then he walked over to where Mo Xuanyu was laid down, and kissed his forehead lightly. His beautiful silver hair was cut short, and his face was pale, but it didn't lessen his beauty. And in his death, he finally looked like he was at peace.
"Thank you, Mo Xuanyu. I hope you will get reincarnated in a better condition than you had here, and I hope you will find your happiness." He whispered to him. No matter what had happened, this body had housed the soul of the only person he had ever loved, so he was grateful for it.
Chen Yu knocked and entered Xue Qing's room to find the girl was in the middle of wearing her boots.
"What are you doing?" He asked her, surprised that the girl was already up and about.
"What are you doing?" She tightened the last of the laces and wore her black leather jacket. "Ah, whatever, I'm off anyway. Thanks for your… whatever it was." She was ready to jump off the window when Chen Yu grabbed her hand.
"Wait! Why don't you use the front door? It's dangerous! And your injuries have not fully recovered yet, you should at least take today off."
"Yeah, talk to the hand, dude. Who are you by the way? You're more nagging than Song Lan and my cousin put into one." Xue Qing shrugged her jacket and took her distance from Chen Yu. "I'm warning you, don't come closer or I'll slit your throat, saviour or not." Then she quickly climbed the window ledge. "Adios, motherfucker."
Chen Yu ran to the window to see only the shadow she left behind, and he chuckled. This was the first time he met someone like her, who, in a way, reminded him of Momo… no, Wei Wuxian. He always had a soft spot for a tsundere just like her. Anyway, he turned around and walked back to the lab to find out about the progress of the soul transfer. He was curious about the result after all.
"So, Lan Wangji. What should we do with the Wen siblings? I mean, I already minister the nanobots to both of them, so they should be recuperating now. Do we need to call the cops or what?" Shen Qingqiu asked Lan Wangji, who sat down on the chair beside Wei Wuxian's new body, unwilling to let him out of his sight.
"You should call Jiang Cheng. He's a good cop, and an honest one. He should be able to handle all this mess." Dr. Xue answered Shen Qingqiu while examining Mo Xuanyu. "It's amazing, these arrays. Can anyone learn about it, Dianxia? Can I learn it?" Dr. Xue was so excited about these new things that he just learned from The Great Sage himself.
"Sure, Dr. Xue. Everyone can learn anything as long as they want to. I will teach you the basics later and then I'll send you the books on magical arrays. But please keep this a secret? I don't want people to find out about my family. It's… dangerous."
"Of course, Dianxia." Dr. Xue almost had a heart attack there because Dianxia was willing to teach him. It was a chance of a lifetime. "By the way, Wangji, I'll inform Jiang Cheng about these… situation. Let him take care of the Wen sibling." Dr. Xue turned around to face Lan Wangji, who still sat beside Wei Wuxian's new body, holding his hand. Or maybe he should start to say, her . "About Momo…"
"I need to examine Momo's body first before you may tell the world that she had passed away peacefully in a kidnapping gone wrong, by someone who held a deep grudge for her. Is that alright, Wangji?" Xie Lian gave the most plausible scenario, and it was the truth too, so Lan Wangji nodded in agreement.
"I'll ask Chen Yu if I may have a funeral for Mo Xuanyu at a later date." Lan Wangji solemnly spoke while his eyes never left Wei Wuxian.
"I'm fine either way, but my grandfather may want to cremate him." Chen Yu walked back right at that time. "Also, if I may impose on you, Second Young Master Lan, can you please help me find the whereabouts of my aunt, Mo Xuanyu's mother? We have lost contact for too long to be taken lightly." In fact, Chen Yu had done everything he could to try to find Mo Xiang, to no avail. He was afraid that somehow, she was captured by the one she was running away from.
"I'll contact my brother and ask him to help find Mo Xiang. By any chance, did she work at the Lan's Tech? I happened to find some information about her being Jin Guangshan's research assistant before she worked for my brother." Lan Wangji suddenly remembered the info he got on Mo Xiang. "Did Jin Guangshan send her to spy on the Lan's Tech?" That was the most plausible excuse for Mo Xiang to work at the Lan's Tech, while having Jin Guangshan's son and still being taken care of by the man who never believed in anything else other than money and lineage.
Chen Yu suddenly felt nervous. He actually had guessed the same, since it wasn't really logical when his aunt worked for the rival of the father of her child. And he knew for sure that Mo Xiang still loved Jin Guangshan to the point of not resisting to being used like that.
"Well, I have my suspicions… and my grandpa, we already talked to her. We asked her and Momo to just… leave with us, but she said she still had something important to do before she could ever leave. She genuinely wanted to give Momo a better life, rather than this suffocating one he had been in." Chen Yu was rather emotional when he remembered their conversations, how stubborn his aunt was, and how devoted she was to that son of a bitch. He and his grandfather only stayed for Momo, but now even Momo had gone.
"Hm…" Lan Wangji was deep in thought. "I'll find out more. Right now you should stay here, with Dr. Xue, and keep working on those nanobots. Do not prolong their lifespan, instead, reduce the pain when they repair the wounds. An extra shot of mild sedative would be fine. We could use those bots as a new generation emergency first aid kit."
That… was a brilliant idea. That way, human resources would still be of use, and the emergency first aid kit would be very practical.
"I'll work on that, Second Young Master Lan." Chen Yu was very eager to work. "Ah, about me living with Dr. Xue…"
"It was just a suggestion. Are you living with your grandfather now?" Lan Wangji genuinely wanted to take care of the last of Mo Xuanyu's family as he planned to do back then when he made a plan to marry Mo Xuanyu.
"Yes, but we're fine, really. And grandpa is still consulting on some cases that interest him."
"Oh? What does your grandpa do?" Dr. Xue's ears suddenly perked at the mention of cases.
"He's a rare disease specialist, Dr. Li Zhao. You probably have heard of him?"
" The Dr. Li Zhao?" Dr. Xue was flabbergasted. Today he had a very lucky encounter with Dianxia and met the grandson of Dr. Li Zhao, whom he wrote his dissertation on. "Please extend my invitation to your grandfather, boy. You both may stay with me indefinitely."
Now Lan Wangji was surprised because he never knew that his uncle could be that excited. But before anyone could say anything else, he heard a soft moan from where Wei Wuxian's body was resting. He and Xie Lian jumped right away and approached her.
She looked like she was in pain, with the grunting and groaning, and clutching her stomach until she almost fell down the table she was in. Lan Wangji quickly caught her, but she suddenly screamed out loud and clutched her head, making everyone panic.
"Xie Lian, what happened? Why she looks like she's in pain?" Lan Wangji tried to hold her but she was thrashing wildly, so Xie Lian quickly made another array, and put it on her forehead, and she seemed to calm down and fell into a deep sleep again.
"What. The. Hell. Happened?" Lan Wangji looked at Xie Lian with an obvious hostility in his eyes.
"Like I told you, Wangji, I don't know, because we only had one half of the talisman. But I put a restraining array on her. It was supposed to make the taking over of the body… easier." Xie Lian came closer and checked Wei Wuxian's pulse. "She seemed calmer now… we should…" before Xie Lian could finish his words, suddenly Wei Wuxian's whole body was covered by bright red lights that almost blinded them all, and it made them cover their eyes for a moment.
When Lan Wangji finally opened his eyes, he felt that someone was watching him intently. He looked in the direction of where Wei Wuxian's body was supposed to be, but instead finding the body of a young woman, he was stared back by a pair of very beautiful and iridescent silver eyes with gradient of gold in the middle, that belonged to a five years old girl.
