The night had fallen and the moon was coming out in her full force. It was a beautiful full moon night tonight and everyone was out enjoying the moon while celebrating life.

Xie Lian was sitting in the pavilion in the middle of koi pond on BingQiu's house while playing a melancholic song on his guqin. He looked like an ancient prince with his flowy white robe, long dark hair, and beautiful face. Sat in front of him was Hua Cheng, Shen Qingqiu, and Luo Binghe, who listened to him playing while enjoying their drinks, when Lan Wangji approached them.

"Hey, Wangji, come, have a drink with us." Hua Cheng called him. "We were just giving our last respect to Mo Xuanyu here." He took out a wooden stool and gave it to Lan Wangji who sat on it and then took a glass of the whiskey they had started to drink quite a moment ago. It was a Yamazaki, which he also liked for its smoothness. Seemed the boys crack up the good bottle, Wei Wuxian must be proud.

"So, where have you been?" Shen Qingqiu asked him while smirking. He got the idea of where they were going, since Yuwen Xing had cheerfully asked him about where to bring a ten years old girl for an outing this morning.

"Disneyland." Lan Wangji downed the whiskey in one big gulp and winced from the burn. "Never saw that many kids in my life before. Ever." And he would not want to see that many kids again for a while.

"And whose idea was it?" Luo Binghe could not hold his laugh, seeing how flustered Lan Wangji was.

"Actually it was my father's idea, since he was so overwhelmed with suddenly having a granddaughter." Lan Wangji sighed. His father was also the one who wanted to wait until the final show, the fireworks. Who knew that his father always wanted a daughter?

"Well, did you at least have fun?" Hua Cheng asked while stifling a laugh. Lan Wangji only groaned as a response.
"Where is Xianxian now?" Xie Lian was pleased with the length Lan Wangji went to take care of his Xianxian, and he felt warmth inside. This, this was the perfect family for his Xianxian. Other than his real parents of course. He just could not wait until the old man Wei saw Xianxian now. It should be fun letting them see their son in a girl's body and having a serious boyfriend all in short period of time.

"He is asleep. My mom wanted to take him for the night but he declined, saying he can't sleep without a familiar presence next to him. Me. He meant me." Lan Wangji looked smug. "The stress of being surrounded by those little kids was worth it."

"Well, ain't you bragging now?" Shen Qingqiu laughed. "Wait until he's in his teens, let's see if you can stay smug like that."

"What happened in his teens?" Hua Cheng asked, because he was wild back when he was sixteen-ish. Unlike the bookworm Lan Wangji who graduated from Harvard at that age. The nerd.

"Just… wait and see." Shen Qingqiu smirked. He experienced it firsthand, so did Luo Binghe who now shivered, remembering the dark age, and Xie Lian, who hid a smile while he was playing his guqin. Feng Xin and Mu Qing who stood a little bit behind, snorted.

"It's… challenging." Xie Lian played a soft playful tune while his mind went back to reminisce the days of Wei Wuxian's youth. Especially the age of eighteen, that was the pinnacle of the rebellion which caused them to part ways, regretably. That's why he hoped that this time around, they could mend their relationship.

"In that case, I should probably get going. Need to recharge for another busy day." Lan Wangji drank the last of the whiskey and stood up. "By the way, where's Qingge? I need to talk to him. We caught the perp who owned that warehouse, too bad he slipped away from us."

"He's not back yet. Wasn't he with you this morning?" Shen Qingqiu asked him back. It was strange to not having Liu Qingge around at this time, although he usually just lurked behind with his phone, playing games. "Who's the perp? Someone you knew?"

"He was my brother's assistant, he looked so insignificant, but turned out he was the one who embezzled a lot from my brother's account." Lan Wangji took his phone out and dialed Liu Qingge. "I left Qingge in Xichen's office. Well, you don't think…"

"Busy, can't talk." He answered only to end it a second later.

"Yep, he's still there."

"Did you by any chance give him an all access pass? Scratch that, did you give him any pass at all?" Shen Qingqiu was thinking about his friend, and what kept him burning the midnight oil.

"No, but I had one of my tech there with him. Why?"

"Nah, I just think he's having fun there, don't worry about him. Go. Rest. Tomorrow will be another chaotic day." Shen Qingqiu grinned like he knew what's going to happen, but Lan Wangji had a suspicion that somehow, tomorrow would not be that easy like today.

"Fine. I'll be off then." He waved at them and left to take a shower and sleep.

Not a minute later, Xie Lian's phone rang, and it was Liu Qingge, confirming what he was afraid of.

"Bad news?" Hua Cheng was very sensitive to the minute changes of Xie Lian's facial expression, the result of observing him for two days straight in close contact.

"The worst, I'm afraid." Xie Lian looked at Feng Xin and Mu Qing. "It seems like you both were right."

"What do you mean, Dianxia?" Hua Cheng asked him while Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe kept their ears open.

"I guess I have to tell you about this. Do you remember Mo Xuanyu's murder photos? There's someone in a dark robe who casted the transmigration array, in green glow? Well, we find the person, and if it's really what I thought it was, this case is not just about a simple murder and imprisoning Xianxian's soul. It was more than that." Xie Lian's face suddenly went dark. He really did not want to involve his friends in his own problems, but by dragging Xianxian into this mess, he knew that they had already been involved whether they liked it or not.

Lan Wangji took a hot shower to ease his aching back, and when he finished, he saw the little girl was staring at him from her place in his bed.

"Why are you up? You said that you're tired." He leaned on the bed and kissed her hair. In returned, she hugged him and planted a kiss on his cheek. Then she went back to sleep inside her blanket cocoon beside Lan Wangji without saying anything, as if she just needed to confirm his presence before she could go to sleep. The cats were also there, curling under the blanket with the girl.

Lan Wangji sighed.

This was the first time he slept with that many… creatures at once. He used to enjoy being alone at the end of the day, enjoying a cigarette and a glass of whiskey. But lately his life became chaotic with the sudden arrival of Wei Wuxian and his motley crew. He snickered.

This was the best chaos that he ever had, and ever wanted in his life.
