Legends Revealed
Blake's PoV:
How did Luke die and get back up? Or did he die? What is going on?
I was too focused on figuring out how Luke got back up from that shot to read. Weiss noticed this.
"Blake. You're not reading a book. You thinking about what just happened?"
I nodded. Ruby perked up as we walked to STEL's dorm. "I think we all are."
Jaune scratched his head. "They way they fought reminded me of these warriors in a story. What were they called again?"
Ren answered. "I believe they were called 'Risen' in the legends."
Jaune nodded. "That's right! They were called Risen!"
We stood before the door and Pyrrah knocked. It opened a second later to show Sam, Tia and Luke arguing. Erica stood at the door.
"Come in." She stepped to the side. That was when I noticed she had a robot floating over her shoulder. They all did, actually.
Luke stepped back from Tia and raised his hands. "I'm sorry! I didn't know they had a sniper!"
Sam took an equal step forwards. "Always assume they have snipers!"
Erica rolled her eyes and cleared her throat. The trio stopped to look at us.
Sam stood straight up. "Oh, didn't realize you were here. Let us start from the beginning." He gave a nod to Erica.
She brought all of us in and locked the door. We sat down at Sam's request (which sounded more like an order) and looked at the four.
Sam took a deep breath. "We are not who you think we are."
Nora leaned back in her seat. "Kinda figured that when you, I don't know, came back from the dead."
That got Luke several glares from his teammates. He let out a nervous chuckle.
Erica regained her composure and looked at us. "I believe it is time to show you the truth. Ghost?"
The robot that was hovering over her shoulder gloated to the center of the room and expanded to show us a picture of a city surrounded by storm. A white orb the size of a moon hovered over it.
"This is the Last Safe City on Earth. And this," the city vanished to just show the orb. I saw that it looked... broken, almost, "is the Traveller. The reason as to why it looks wounded is because it is. It sacrificed itself to push back the Darkness. At least, that is what most believe. Some think the Warmind Rasputin shot it as a way to ensure it doesn't leave Humanity for dead. But no proof has been found supporting that."
Weiss gazed at her. "What do you believe?"
"That the Traveller sacrificed itself. We all do."
Jaune asked a sensible question for once. "What is so important about the Traveller?"
Sam stepped in. "The arrival of the Traveller launched Humanity into a Golden Age for a long time, before the Collapse. What caused the Collapse was... the Darkness."
The Traveller faded away to show a churning of black. I don't know why, but it creeped me the hell out.
"It came upon us like a... like a flash flood. We had no warning, no time to prepare. It would have swallowed the entire system if the Traveller did not intervene."
The Traveller appeared in the middle of the Darkness and a bright flash pushed the shadows away as the Traveller cast off shards of itself.
"Knowing the Darkness would return, the Traveller used the last of its Light to create these."
The hologram faded to show all four of those robots STEL had in a plain white shell.
One floated forwards. "We are Ghosts. More precisely, their Ghosts." They flew back to their respective owners and swapped back to their normal shells.
Erica resumed the lesson, if you will. "The Ghosts were made to find the best warriors and scholars from the past and bring them back."
Wait, "from the past?"
Weiss had the same exact thought. "Wait, 'from the past'? What do you mean?"
Luke crossed his arms. "You know how I was shot and fell down?"
We nodded.
"I actually died there. The reason why I'm still here is because of this little guy, right here." He petted his Ghost.
We put it together. Ruby's eyes widened.
"You're z-z-z-!"
Tia growled. "We are NOT zombies. We actually are who we are previously, just with wool pulled over our eyes."
We all tilted our heads. Erica elaborated.
"What she means is that we don't remember who we were before resurrection. At least, when our Ghosts first find us. We can never remember what came before our lives as Guardians."
Sam let out a quiet sigh. "At least, that's what was commonly believed. Before Tia and I started remembering our past. She remembers how we died and I..."
Everyone looked at him. In the dim light, I noticed a smile creeping onto his face.
"I remember when she was born."
Nothing was said for a bit before Erica continued on.
"Before the founding of the Last City, those revived weren't called Guardians. They were called Risen and not all had noble intentions. But that, is not our story. Ours starts where timelines convene."
Tia sat down with us and we gave her a strange look. Sam sighed.
"Tia wasn't with us when we raided the Vault of Glass. She was revived weeks after it. The... the three of us were... a little unstable. You'll see why."
We watched the raid video and gasped when the six Guardian team stood before Atheon, Time's Conflux. Atheon summoned its Oracles, no big deal, the Guardians had fought them earlier. However, three Guardians couldn't make it to Sam, Luke and Erica in time, and they were pulled from the time line. The remaining three became filled with such rage and fury, they did something crazy, all three of them.
Luke summoned a staff of lightning that he has seemingly forgotten how to wield, Erica practically melted Atheon with a huge burst of concentrated lightning and Sam walked right up to Time's Conflux.
He raised his left arm to the sky and the Ageis was replaced with a shield of purple Light. Atheon tried blasting the fireteam, but Sam simply raised the shield and it covered all three of them. Gripping the shield tight, he spun around and let go, sending it flying towards Atheon. The thing screamed as it burned away and as soon as the Vault emptied of Vex, the three of them fell to the ground. The clip sped up, keeping track of time as weeks passed. Eventually, six Guardians came across the trio and lowered their weapons.
One spoke and he sounded sort of like a robot. "Hey, Zavala?"
"Yes, Cayde? What's the Vault's status?"
"I think they did it. We encountered little resistance, just some Goblins here and there. Three Guardians are just laying here."
"What?!? Check them, do they still have their Light?!?"
Three Guardians checked them and gave 'Cayde' thumbs ups.
"Yep. Don't know where the others are."
I heard Zavala sigh. "They must be lost in time. Bring those you can back. We'll see about remembering their comrades."
Cayde nodded and the clip ended. Tia blinked.
"I-. I didn't know..."
Sam sighed. "It's fine, Tia. Don't worry about it."
She got up and stood next to her team. "We have other stories to tell, but that will be for a different time. Keep what you have seen a secret, understood?"
We looked at eachother, then nodded. They unlocked their door and we left.
We have been fighting alongside eternal warriors. Am I dreaming?
No Blake, you aren't.
Anyways, that was the chapter! RWBY and JNPR now know about who our Guardians really are! Just saying, Team STEL will get into a lot of trouble during their stay at Beacon!
