Chapter 8
Inferno is the evolution of Blaze. Blaze is the evolution of Fire. Which meant Inferno was triple the anger, triple the chaos and a thousandfold of firepower.
He was wearing a red bohemian collar scarf with a fire symbol that resembled a phoenix on the collar. His clothes had changed to a sleeveless vest under the scarf, black shorts, fantasy-like strapped sandals that went below his knee. On his head, a gold laurel wreath nestled in his hair instead of his cap.
He would never use Inferno unless he could help it, but these people had betrayed his trust two times in a row. Goes to show you can never trust anybody when you're a superhero.
Besides, it makes him look like some fairy tale mage. (Perfect for cosplay.)
"Ca – calm down, Boboiboy!" Fang cried. "Don't lose control!"
Inferno growled. Lose control? They started it!
Kaizo equipped his amber mask. Admiral Tarung was ready to wrestle this screaming ball of fire with his bare hands.
They lasted about five seconds. The heat worn them out before Inferno touched them.
Fang had barely managed to create a barrier to shield himself, Ciciko and his friends from the flames. He wasn't sure how his brother and the admiral were faring. This wasn't the Boboiboy that had worked with them. This was someone much more dangerous and powerful.
Through the cracks of the wall he created, Fang could catch glimpses of the battle. Inferno was as fast as Thunderstorm, but stronger, more destructive and completely at random. He obliterated Kaizo's amber energy barrier like it was paper. He dodged every admiral's attack and deflecting it with more force. Fires spread around the entire station.
It was a free for all. Kaizo focused on surviving. Tarung was running on his fighter spirit alone. Inferno had taken everything out of them, but that was like a cup of water trying to extinguish a forest fire.
"He's – he's so powerful!" Yaya gasped, trying not to budge from her spot. One wrong move and she'll be a shish kebab. "How?"
Another array of stray flames collided against the shadow barriers. Fang grunted. This was taking almost all of his energy, and they weren't the ones being attacked. They were the bystanders, but the power that Inferno emitted alone was suffocating.
Fang bit his lip. He daren't peek at the battle, but from the explosions alone he could tell that it was a one-sided beating from Inferno to Kaizo and the admiral. If he could toss them around like ragdolls, what chance did they stand against him?
Still, they couldn't sit around watching them getting pummelled! He didn't mind seeing his brother getting humiliated in a battle once in a while, but this was a massacre. This was no laughing joke. If they didn't stop Boboiboy, they would die a very painful death.
Ying's face was paler than usual as she held Yaya's hand. Gopal was mainly curled up into a ball as he prayed to whatever to let them escape just fine. Boboiboy wasn't just powerful – he was a god, totally out of their league.
"I have an idea," Fang said.
"Oh, great," Gopal whined. "We're all going to die!"
Inferno was pissed beyond relief. His attacks made contact with the admiral and Kaizo without missing a beat. He knew this was mindless destruction and unnecessary violence, but he couldn't help himself.
The anger that had piled up within him had been stockpiling ever since he had become a superhero. From the times where Gopal caused them more trouble than they needed to the moments where the missions they received made no sense at all.
Sure, over the years, he had humoured himself using the new power watch that Ochobot had gave him. The powers were weaker than the watch he had created – which was the one sitting on his wrist – but it was marvellous fun. Seeing Ochobot's reactions when he screwed up his first lightning bolts was hilarious.
Then came the aliens.
A shadow tentacle ensnared him from behind, surprising him. He was so engrossed in his own anger that he didn't realize that the others were still here.
"Stop this, Boboiboy!" Fang called from beneath. His hands were shaking. He had trouble containing his former teammate.
Inferno snorted. "Why is that?"
"You're not thinking straight! We just want to talk! Calm down!"
Fang was here, facing him alone. Kaizo and Tarung both was struggling to even raise their heads, let alone fight. They had gotten peace with a split second of serenity, thanks to Fang.
"Pang..." Kaizo forced out. "Stay... out."
Fang ignored him, which was a first.
Fang was here alone. Which meant the others had probably escaped. Some kind of heroes they are.
"Gravity Manipulation!"
A pink force of energy surrounded him and he was suddenly embedded on the floor. If Yaya was here, then Ying was nearby. Before she did, the flames receded, and the equal force of grey lighting burst from him.
"Time Manipulation!"
He had enough time to change into Boboiboy Storm. His clothes had changed again, representing the individuality of the element and aspect of the personality.
He was wearing a black skin-tight sleeveless vest with a zipless red collar. Blood red stripes ran down the sides of the vest with an outline of half of a lightning bolt. He wore black bands on both his biceps and neck, black jeans, red fingerless gloves that went up below his elbow. His crimson red boots were studded with black iron.
And the cap? Completely gone. A black-and-red headphones rested by his head. The lightning bolt on the ear-part had an extra joint, and it was the mirror version of the original one.
Even through the dome of slowed time, he was able to manoeuvre through with ease. Slower than his usual speed, but faster than Thunderstorm by ten times.
Instead of striking them down, Storm finally regained his sense of control and stopped his grey blade, a centimetre away from Ying's face.
He moved the blade away and dismissed it, along with the storm he was causing in the closed space.
Ying blinked a few times before she realized that she was still alive.
"Why didn't you kill us?" Fang stared straight into Storm's stormy grey eyes. "You could."
Fang had never thought about how Boboiboy's hair looked like. Inferno's hair was longer than the usual one, Storm's bangs was brushed to his left side instead. Goes to show the difference.
"Don't push your luck," Storm warned. He glanced at his stuff, which was all destroyed in his rage. "Now that's settled... we have no further problems."
Yaya and Ying had already bolted to help Kaizo and the admiral. They called in medical attention, which thankfully, Storm did not electrocute them. They watched as they carried the two unconscious fighters to the infirmary in stretchers.
"Sorry about your brother," he said in a tone so low it sounded like a different person entirely. "And the admiral."
"You weren't thinking straight," Fang said. "I understand."
He nodded. "You can stay in the villa. I'll send some of the drones to start repairs on my room..."
"Drones?" Fang repeated. "You have robots? Androids?"
Storm didn't answer, because he had already left. Fang knew this because a wave of static had slapped him in the face. Strands of his hair was standing up like an afro.
How would he return to earth? He could only assume. Boboiboy was a mystery, even before he left.
Something in his pocket had started buzzing and glowing. He slowly fished the object out, and found out that it was Boboiboy's previous watch that he had rejected. It was glowing like mad. It caught everyone else's attention.
"Fang?" Gopal asked, head poking out from the door. "Is that Boboiboy's watch?"
"Ochobot, what's it doing?" Fang held it up.
Ochobot scanned it. "It seems to have found a worthy user. Someone in this room."
Fang handed it to Ochobot. The power sphere circled everyone in the room, searching for the person it was calling out to. When it came in contact with Ying, the ground around her shook. When it was Gopal, it started heating up like a microwave. When it's Yaya, vines sprouted from the wall and snared her.
"No one? Who else?" Gopal fretted, blowing his hand to cool off.
Ohcobot presented it to Fang.
The watch didn't attack him. Hesitantly, Fang equipped the watch and nothing happened. He stared at Ochobot for instructions.
"Hm, maybe try summoning a lightning bolt or something," Ying suggested.
Fang recalled the times he saw Boboiboy do it. He made it seem so easy.
"Alright... lightning sword!"
Nothing happened. He sighed. It can't happen, can it? But just as he was about to try again while holding his hands up, a ball of water suddenly drenched Yaya in the face.
"Hey!" Yaya screeched.
Fang tried to make a lightning sword again. But when he swung his hand, leaf shurikens appeared in them and they hit Gopal.
"Oh, right. I remember this," Ying snorted. "It's a stunning leaf shuriken."
Gopal fell flat on his face.
"At least we know it's Fang," Yaya agreed. "So what does it mean? Why not before?"
"Maybe it's because of Boboiboy. Maybe it's not the watch who decides, it's Boboiboy." Ochobot had already started listing theories. "I don't know what happened, but he probably thinks Fang can handle it."
"I can't handle it," Fang said, panic lacing his voice. "I – I already have Shadow Manipulation! I don't need Element Manipulation!"
"If he thinks you're worthy there must be a reason," Gopal wheezed as Ying plucked the shuriken from his face. "Just accept it. It's awesome!"
Really? How awesome can it get?
With this power, he could defeat Vargoba, maybe someday surpass Boboiboy. It will literally be a case of fighting fire with fire. But first he has to focus on retrieving Pulau Rintis.
