Chapter 10
The football match had turned into a one-sided massacre. Boboiboy and Shizuko led every goal they had. It was about 92% Boboiboy and the remainder is Shizuko. The two moved at speeds no one else could follow.
During the half time, the score was stretched to 28-0, and the Pulau Rintis team had not broken a sweat. Shizuko was asleep half way through, and she wasn't interested in anything the home team had to say.
Anyway, they won by a landslide. By the time they were finished, it was six in the evening. Shizuko hung around Tok Aba's Kokotiam to get some late-night coffee. Of course Ochobot was there, but Boboiboy and Shizuko treated as if he wasn't.
"Nice game on the match today," Boboiboy congratulated. "I just hope we graduate soon so I don't have to deal with any of this."
Shizuko grumbled a response and went back to her phone. She was in her alone-zone now, and she clearly despised any social interaction. Not even the end of the world can spike her interest.
She looked up. "Request. Retrievement. You up?"
"Got nothing to do." Boboiboy drained his cup. "Your ship or mine? Got any extra fuel? I can get some extra cocoa from Tok Aba."
She smirked. "Thanks. Be back in ten."
Shizuko told him to help her get another ice coffee before she got back. He had nowhere to go, so he was hanging by the stall dozing off. His phone just had to run out of battery, and it was still charging via the cables installed within the Kokotiam.
Ochobot didn't bother talking to him. He knew he was going to be ignored no matter what. He helped the other coming customers and fangirls who had only came after the football match to take sneaky pictures of the ex-hero. Gopal, Fang, Yaya and Ying had to return to TAPOPS for their extra-time-training.
So he was stuck on earth all alone, despite having his old friend sitting next to him. Not that Boboiboy treated him as one any longer.
Ten minutes later, Shizuko got Boboiboy's attention by sniping a rock at him. He jolted awake from his nap and fumbled towards the grey descending spaceship from the sky.
Ochobot stared at it in confusion. Where did they get that ship? Normal humans shouldn't have access to it. He needed to alert his friends. He teleported to TAPOPS, but was unaware of Boboiboy's charging phone remaining at the stall.
Fang was having trouble with the new watch. It seemed to have adapted to Boboiboy's new asshole personality and refused to cooperate. From making electric umbrellas instead of lightning swords, to the point of him sleeping walking as his fire element is dominant.
Thankfully, his clothes didn't change when he switched elements. He had to admit that look didn't suit him. But when Fang was close to mastering the most basic element of all – Lightning, the watch refused to work with him.
Now on top of having to master a completely new watch, he had to maintain his shadow manipulation fluency. He had tried to use both powers at once, but it ended up short circuiting each other and disabled him for an hour or so.
Admiral Tarung and Kaizo were still wounded, but they could walk. Whatever alien tech they used, none of the injuries scarred. One of the perks of having more advanced tech than other planets.
"Fang, could you try to summon an earth barrier?" Yaya tested. "Boboiboy always uses it as the easiest one."
Fang nodded. Mentally, he willed his watch to switch to the earth element. He poised his hand over the ground, seeming to punch it. But a blue portal opened up in front of them and Fang panicked, unleashing a blast of strong wind instead of earth.
Ochobot crashed into the wall from the wind. Ying sped to his side. "Ochobot! Are you okay?" She turned to Fang. "Are you crazy? That wasn't Earth!"
"Hey! I tried to!" Fang argued. "I don't know how to control this thing, okay?"
Ying snorted. "If you say so."
"I'm fine." Ochobot wobbled up. "Guys! I have something to tell you about Boboiboy and his friend!"
"You mean the one that slept all match?" Gopal scoffed. "What about it?"
"They were talking something about a request," Ochobot recalled. "They have their own ship and everything. Do you think he's up to something?"
Fang considered this. Boboiboy having his own ship? Why didn't he use it when he was still at TAPOPS? Why use it now?
"Maybe someone else recruited him," Fang guessed. "He's well-known for his power and charisma."
Yaya crossed her arms. "Maybe. But should we go investigate?"
"After Fang stops electrocuting everyone," Gopal grouched.
Fang rolled his eyes at him. Why did he have to be the one to take this power, again? Why not Kaizo? Why not Tarung? At least they looked like they had better control.
There was a possibility that Boboiboy's watch was compatible with Boboiboy's personality only. It was like a system taken into different devices and brands. It works in the original, because it is programmed to. But if you shove it into a foreign device, part of the functions and capabilities would glitch and possibly malfunction.
And Fang was the furthest thing to Boboiboy. He was the shadow to his light. Boboiboy was the cinnamon bun, and he was the asshole. The Sasuke to Naruto. The Vegeta to Goku. The Kacchan to Deku. It was the matter of opposites.
Of course, Boboiboy was no longer who he was. He had changed, for the better or worse. The Boboiboy he knew never kept secrets, always fiercely loyal to his friends.
But was he? He didn't tell them that he was famous. He didn't tell them that he was rich. They deserved at least a little head's up from him, but he vanished without a trace and returned with more fame and power than he had before.
"Maybe we could check the databases," Yaya suggested. "TAPOPS has a lot of information, thanks to the laundry cover we have. If it's someone as big as Boboiboy, we should have plenty of data."
They saw no other choice. The galaxy was huge, and TAPOPS's laundry service was famous for its quality and speed.
Ochobot showed them the ship he had saw. It was a respectable size, larger than some of their courier ships they used for transport. Boboiboy's ship was silver in colour, not grey. The windows were tinted black.
Yaya searched all the databases with Ying. Within ten minutes of books and computers, they called the rest of them to see what they had found. Fang put the book back to the shelf. Gopal woke from his library-induced coma and bolted in front of the TAPOPS's main computers.
"Is it this one?" Yaya showed Ochobot a model. Ochobot nodded. "It belongs to one of the bounty hunters that completes a lot of TAPOPS's bounties. No name is known, but he also goes for any kind of work. Termination, Retrievement, Capture and Locating. It started on the radars about... five years ago."
"That's when Boboiboy came to Pulau Rintis!" Gopal realized. "He can't be with TAPOPS. He was with us the entire time."
"Then whose ship is that?" Ying quizzed.
The door slid open. "That would be me."
They turned. Boboiboy and Shizuko was standing there, Shizuko bringing along a portable crate.
"How'd you get in here?" Fang demanded. "Who gave you permission?"
Boboiboy shrugged. "Guilty. You didn't change the passwords."
Fang cursed under his breath. He would have to change the passwords after this.
Shizuko dragged the crate over and shoved it into Gopal's hands. "Two thousand. Tablebot."
"Um, what?" Gopal gawked.
With a groan, she turned her phone on and showed the TAPOPS bounty to them. She had completed over a hundred bounties from TAPOPS, and this time was no exception. She retrieved the power sphere Tablebot with the bounty for two thousand credits.
Shizuko glanced at the screen and to them, but said nothing. Fang checked the admission codes and transmitted the bounty money to her account.
She left, leaving Boboiboy with them.
"How's that watch coming along?" Boboiboy asked. He looked like he was trying not to laugh. "Freeze anyone yet?"
"Why do you care?" Fang groused. If this was a prank, he would strangle Boboiboy right here, right now.
Boboiboy tried not to transform into Hurricane, the third evolution of wind. His elements amplified his personality by thousandfold. If he feels happy and carefree, Hurricane would be provoked. If he was sad, Dark would be intrigued. If he was arrogant, Light would spike up. The same principal applies to all of them.
"Um, no reason." Boboiboy smiled innocently. "So when are you going to defeat Vargoba? It's only a matter of time before he plans to take over the Earth, you know."
Ying paled. "Excuse me?"
"You don't think he'll stop on Pulau Rintis alone, do you?" he asked, his voice sickly sweet. "Once he gathered his forces, he'll come after you first. Then when all the defenders are dead... you get the rest! Good luck!"
"If you know he'll come, why don't you help us?" Gopal yelped. "You're living on earth too, you know!"
Boboiboy shrugged. "I'm not a hero, remember? It's every man for himself. I'll save when and who I want to."
With a small skip in his steps, Boboiboy left to join Shizuko in her ship to disembark for earth. He needed to finish his anime series and complete his cosplay costumes.
His news shocked his former team still. Everyone needed time to process the doomsday information and left to Tok Aba's stall through Ochobot's portal.
Once they arrived, Fang noticed a foreign object on the tables. It was linked to the electrical sockets in the stand.
He flipped it over, wondering who was stupid enough to leave their phones around.
A red cover and a gold lightning B stared back at him.
