1.7 ϟ First Day of Classes
That night, sure enough Raelyn and Remilda had separate rooms. In Remilda's room, it was herself, Hermione, Lucy Diggory, Romilda Vane, and Demelza Robins. Romilda was a pretty girl, probably one of the prettiest girls that was in Gryffindor, and she had dark brown hair that was waved and went down her back and she had big hazel eyes to match. Then Demelza had reddish brown hair, freckled cheeks, and bright blue eyes that made her extremely welcoming. It was a quiet bunch, at least during that first night. Once everyone was heading to bed, everyone was so exhausted so everyone went to bed straight away.
In all honesty, it was probably one of the best nights of sleep that Remilda had gotten for awhile. Instead of laying awake and think about her mother and how much she hates having to leave the States, she was able to drift off to sleep while thinking about the next day of classes.
"Hermione," Remilda started as the two of them began their descent down the narrow staircase to the common room to pick up their schedules before breakfast. "yesterday Harry mentioned having a hearing. What was it for? Was it because of Cedric Diggory?"
She quickly shook her head, "No," she replied, "he used the patronus charm to get rid of two dementors that attacked him and his cousin."
"He had to have a hearing for that?"
Hermione sighed and nodded, "Unforntunately yes..." she sighed as they got to the common room.
There was a long table with envelopes spread out across it. A handful was already gone, so Remilda scanned the names until she saw hers. Right in a row; Raelyn Potter, Remilda Potter, Harry Potter. She thought about picking up Raelyn's as well, but she only picked her own. The yellowish paper was thick, and written on neatly with green ink. As Hermione got her's and the two of them went to leave the common room, Remilda unfolded the paper.
Due to the standards in place at Ilvermorny Academy, you have completed many of your fifth year requirements. Please use your free periods responsibly, Miss Potter. I would suggest using them to prepare for your OWL's.

Remilda smiled at the note at the top of her schedule. First hour on Monday was free, fourth hour on Wednesday was free, and the entire day on Friday was completely open.
"We have...Potions, Defense Against the dark Arts, and Divination together!" Hermione smiled as they descended down the enchanted staircase. "How'd you manage to complete the requirements already?"
"We had an extra hour of classes each day at Ilvermorny and a few years ago, the Congress decided to up the standards." she explained simply, "I never thought it'd pay off." Remilda added, laughing a bit.
Hermione and Remilda began eating breakfast before the others had arrived. After Remilda had eating, and grabbed her loose paper and a pencil, and decided to write a letter to her father like she had said she would.
As Remilda wrote, she considered telling him about Raelyn. They had only been there for a day and she was already stirring up trouble. Which wasn't such a new thing for her, Raelyn didn't care what she said or how she said it or when. She just said it.
"Remmy?"
Remilda jumped a bit as someone snapped her out of her thoughts about her sister. She looked beside her and saw one of the Weasley twins. "It's a childhood nickname," she replied, and stared at him, "were you reading my letter?"
"Just the last bit," he replied as a playful smile spread across his face.
"So which one are you?" she asked as she took the piece of paper out of the notebook and folded it up in thirds and scribbled her fathers name down and the address for it to go to.
"George," he replied as he began to dish up his breakfast, "Fred's trying to finish up this new prank we're working on."
"And you left him to do the work?"
"He wanted to stay and finish the work," he stated, "there's a difference."
Remilda scoffed, "I don't see any difference." she retorted as she began to pack away everything but the letter, "So what sort of pranks do you two make?"
George shrugged, "Depends on the person," he replied in between bites of his breakfast. "if it were..." he paused to think, "Ron, then it would probably be some sweet that would turn his skin purple. If it were someone like..." he paused looking around the dining hall, "Angelina Johnson, it'd probably be an gas bomb of some sort in her book bag."
"So you two don't have a signature prank?" Remilda asked, "You just go with the flow of things?"
"We used to," he replied, "but last year, well two years ago maybe, Fred and me decided we'd start our own joke shop. So we've just been adding to the list of stuff we'd sell there."
"A shop? You mean like Zonko's?"
George smiled, "Exactly like Zonko's."
"That's Raelyn's favorite shop back in the states, is there one around here?"
George nodded, "In Hogsmead there's one."
"That's close to Hogwarts, isn't it?"
He nodded again, "Maybe a ten or fifteen minute walk from here."
Remilda sighed, "When Raelyn finds out about that, she'll give you guys a run for your money, I guarantee it." she told him, "In our third year at Ilvermorny, she got suspended for three days. Our mom was furious, but our dad would never admit it but he was proud of her."
George chuckled, but then after a moment his smile was gone. "I'm really sorry about your mum," he told her, "that much be really tough."
Remilda sighed and nodded, "Yeah...yeah it is," she paused, "but believe it or not, being here has made it seem a bit easier."
Remilda and George talked for a few more minutes, and then once Fred arrived, the two of them got wrapped up in conversation and Remilda turned towards the others. Then once first period began, and from the dining hall, Remilda found her way to the Owlry, looked for a free owl that had a purple string on its leg, signaling that it was the castles and free for students to use. She found a barn owl that was mixed shades of red. So Remilda handed it the letter, and off it flew to deliver it.
Then as the classes went on, she relalized just how awful Snapes class would probably be compared to some of the others. His voice was monotone ninety percent of the time, and his room was dark and fairly gloomy. Dark enough that it would make it easy to fall asleep in. And besides that, she sat in front of a boy that Hermione explained to be the rudest, and most arrogant person in the school; Draco Malfoy. And time and time again in just the first session of potions, he proved her point.
"So Potter," he would begin, "is it hereditary?"
"Is what hereditary?" Remilda would reply.
"The profound stupidity it takes to believe you-know-who is back."
Just little things like that. Then came Charms, the first class she shared with Raelyn. The two of them sat beside one another as Professor Flitwick explained what they'd be learning today. Then he'd ask if they learned any of that during their time at Ilvermorny. Then if they said yes he would reply with...
"Good! You two can help with examples when we get to that unit!"
But then Defense Against the Dark Arts came along. The class that Remilda was usually pretty good at. She had to stop in the restroom though so by the time she found the classroom, most of the seats were already filled. And she ended up taking an open aisle seat, beside Lucy Diggory.
"It's alright if I sit here, right?" Remilda asked, just to make sure.
She nodded, "Yeah, sure."
Remilda nodded and sighed as an awkward tension swelled up between them. She didn't really look at Remilda as she sat down or anything, which was understandable. There was a theory going around that Harry had killed Cedric after all...
"Hey, so--"
"Go on, Seamus! Get it!"
Remilda was cut off and both her and Lucy looked to see what was going on. Fluttering through the air was a paper bird; Remilda couldn't help but let a small laugh out as the Scottish boy from the night before attempted to smash it with his book, but only blew it across the aisle. However as soon as someone threw a pencil at it, it burst into flames and fell to the girls desk in ashes.
Everyone's eyes turned to the back of the room. Only to see Professor Umbridge at the back of the class. Her clothes were just as pink as they had been the evening before. And the same smile was on her face.
"Ordinary, Wizarding, Level...or OWL," she began, as she swished her wand and the piece of chalk wrote on the board. "The very important exams you will each be taking this year." she added as she approached the front, "The educational standard at Hogwarts has always been high, but due to circumstances, your year is a bit behind..." she sighed, and she gave her wand another flick and the books on the desk began to pass themselves out.
Since Remilda and Lucy sat at one of the front desks, they were the first to get the book. And just by looking at the cover, Remilda was offended.
Defense Against the Dark Arts: Basics for Beginners
Beginners? Everyone was five years into their schooling. There was no possible was that they were beginners.
"But with this Ministry approved course, you will all be right on track to pass your exams-" she explained, but stopped as soon as Hermione's hand shot up. "Yes Miss Granger?"
"It says nothing about defensive spells in here..."
Umbridge forced a laugh out, "Why, I don't see why you would need defensive spells in my class."
Remilda raised her hand, "At Ilvermorny, we were encouraged to practice defensive spells and Charms, Ms- Professor." she said simply, "Why would that not be allowed?"
"It's not a requirement, Miss Potter," she sighed, "Uh, yes, Miss Potter?" she asked pointing her wand to the back of the room.
Here we go, Remilda thought.
"Forgive me if I'm wrong, but do you think this stupid children's book would have save my mom this summer? Or Cedric Diggory?"
Remilda felt her heart stop as she spun around in her seat. Her heart began to race; had Raelyn really just said what Remilda thought she said. Remilda scanned the classroom and saw everyone with a shocked look on their face. Sittiing completely still. Like statues.
Umbridge looked shocked by the rhetorical question, but still replied anyway. "What happened to your mother, and to Mr. Diggory was very tragic accident-"
"It wasn't a accident!" Raelyn snapped back.
"Cedric's death wasn't either, Voldemort killed him-" Harry began, his voice loud and meaningful as if it would get his point across.
"And his death eaters killed my mom-"
"Enough!" Umbridge snapped, her calm demeanor had gone. And her eyes and smile didn't even look soft or fake anymore. They had a new look, one that made her look absolutely insane. "You have all been told that...a certain dark wizard is at large..." she paused as she walked towards Harry. "This is a lie."
"It's not a lie! I saw him! I fought him!"
"Mr. Potter! Detention!"
For the rest of the class, there wasn't really any bickering. Just mindlessly listening to the new way the class would be taught. However, then after class, Remilda hurried to get up and hurried to catch up with Raelyn. Raelyn was already nearing the stairs to go down to the dining hall for dinner.
"Raelyn!" she shouted, "Raelyn!" she called again as she reached out and grabbed her sister's arm. When Raelyn turned around however, Remilda was prepared to be angry with her for how she handled class. But she couldn't, because Raelyn's eyes were puffy as if she had just finished crying.
So far, Umbridge was the worst possible thing Remilda could imagine. Nothing made Raelyn cry.
