Part Six
So that's how I find myself trotting in the woods in wolf form after my mate. "Chanyeol! Wait up!" He stops and turns around. I gracefully make the last jump over a rock and join him. He welcomes me with a tail on my flank. I bury my muzzle into his scruff, his heady scent blocking out the world around us. I feel him turn his head as he gives my ear a quick lick. "Come on, I want to show you something." I reluctantly take my head out of his neck and we continue walking, shoulders brushing.
Soon, the trees give way to sand, and the sand to water. A beach. I stare out into the waves, mesmerized by the foaming in and out ripples. I lay down on the sand and shift back. After shifting, Chanyeol joins me in the middle of the sand, giving me a quick kiss as we watch the gulls. After a while, he sits up, I take the chance and place my head into his lap, letting him play with my hair and trace my lips with his fingers. "Yeol, it's really pretty." I say as we watch the sun set.
He cups my chin. "It's not as beautiful as you though."
I allow a faint blush to cover my cheeks. "You're so cheesy." He traces the outline of my lips. "You know you love it."
I give him a lopsided smile. "I do."
I stand up and brush myself off. "Let's head back. It's getting late." Chanyeol gets up slowly. I pout, impatient. "Come on, I'll race you!" And with those words, I'm already running, plunging back into the forest.
I heard Chanyeol yell behind me. "I'm going to get you!" Soon after, I hear the thump of his pawsteps as they thunder along the leaf and needle covered floor. Oh no you don't.
I leap off a rock, morphing in midair and hit the ground running. I recognize most of the territory, but I'm relying on the scent trail from earlier. It takes me back to the front of the pack house successfully. And I don't see or smell my mate anywhere nearby. I let out a howl of triumph. I won!
My howl is cut short as I'm tackled to the ground. I'm trying to struggle out of my attacker's grasp when I catch a whiff of the tantalizing scent. I instantly go slack, letting my mate pin my down on the ground. Chanyeol licks my face and ears, showering me with affection. I roll my eyes casually. "I still won."
Chanyeol licks my face once more before pulling away. "No, I won. Because I have you." He sits down, half on top of me and half on the ground, washing his face with lazy licks.
I bat a paw at his side. "Oh shush, you're being way too cheesy." Chanyeol chuckles and steps off me. I get up and we both morph back.
"But really," Chanyeol continues, "can you not recognize your mate by scent or something? You were flailing around, trying to shove me off."
"Natural instincts," I protest weakly, "and self defense."
Chanyeol puts his hands on my shoulders and whispers in my ear. "I'm just teasing you. To be honest, I would have done the same thing."
He gives me a quick squeeze and unlocks the door to the pack house. I do a double take. We're here already? Time flies.
We step inside and are instantly greeted with the smell of food. Mmm. Kyungsoo's cooking is the best. I follow my nose into the dining hall. My stomach rumbles as I walk inside. Perfect. I pile my plate with various items, making sure to leave enough room for a cookie or two. I sit down at our usual spot, everyone already there except for my mate.
Beta Jongin pesters me with questions. "Where did you two go? I couldn't find Alpha anywhere."
I smile wide as I recall the day's events. "He took me to the beach on the edge of the territory."
"Did you get to see the sunset?" Gamma Luhan chimes in.
"Yeah, we did." A deep voice behind me sends shivers down my spine. Chanyeol sits down next to me and pokes me in the arm. "You. You ditched me for food. I'm disappointed." He fakes a pout.
Kyungsoo cracks a smile at this. "He likes my cooking more than his own mate."
"No," I say as I steal a cracker off of Chanyeol's plate. "Of course I prefer my mate. I was just hungry. I haven't eaten in six hours." I take a bite out of the cracker. "Mmm."
Chanyeol coughs, "Totally not my fault that you haven't eaten in six hours." I point the half eaten cracker and at him. "You could have at least brought some food along."
Chanyeol brushes the crumbs from my lips. "I didn't realize we would be out for that long."
"Tsk," I say as I eat the rest of the cracker. "Wasn't the plan from the beginning to watch the sunset?"
Chanyeol scratches his head. "Sort of."
We all laugh at his idiocy and continue eating. Soon, I offer to get dessert.
I come back only to see Taeyeon in my spot. She's like the pesky mosquito that you can't get rid of. The rest of the ranked wolves seem uncomfortable and Chanyeol looks like he wants to say something but can't. I sigh, walking over. I make a great show out of putting the food on the table and sitting in Chanyeol's lap.
Chanyeol looks relieved and takes one of the cookies I brought over. He breaks it in half, feeding me one piece while eating the other himself. I smile graciously and Taeyeon looks a little irked out.
"Hey Taeyeon," I say between bites, "What brings you here?"
"Well, I was having a nice conversation until you butted in," she snarls.
"Really?" I ask in mock disbelief, "I didn't see any talking going on."
Taeyeon stays silent.
"Exactly. Now, would you please leave? You're making my mate uncomfortable. Don't forget, I have authority over you."
She huffs and stomps away.
Chanyeol whispers in my ear. "Thanks love."
I smile at the nickname, leaning more of my weight on him even though my seat is now vacant.

Chanyeol sits down on our bed as soon as we enter our room. I pull up a chair and start drawing on my arm with a pen that was in my pocket. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Chanyeol pout, probably disappointed at the amount of attention he's getting.
"Baek~," he sings, "I want a kiss."
I smile and fish something out of my pocket. I toss the small object, wrapped nicely in a shiny foil, to him. Chanyeol looks a the small object in confusion. "Chocolate?" he asks as he unwraps the candy.
"Yeah," I say, still focused on my art. "For you."
"I asked for a kiss, Baekhyun," he says as he chews the chocolate. I hear the crinkle of the foil and sliver of wax paper as he crushes it and tosses it into the trash can. It lands with a plink.
I finally look up at him, smiling coyly. "That was a kiss, Chanyeol. A Hershey's Kiss." I cap my pen and walk over to sit on his lap.
Chanyeol wraps his arms around me as I fall into his hold. "But I want one of your kisses," he whispers to me.
"Then one of my kisses you'll get," I say as I link my arms around his neck and lean his head to slant my lips over his.
His lips taste of the candy he just ate, and the kiss is sweeter than anything. I can never get enough of him. Chanyeol gently slides his tongue in my mouth, carefully moving us so that I end up straddling him. I can feel Chanyeol's grin when I tighten my legs around him, and he grips my hair softly. He leans backwards until his back hits the bed, his lips still on mine. Mmm. I eagerly go after the chocolate aftertaste that still lingers in his mouth.
We eventually have to break away, both of us panting for air. Chanyeol smiles at me and touches my swollen lips. "Much better than chocolate," he concedes.
I peck his lips again. "Much better," I agree.
We stay silent for a second until Chanyeol speaks up again. "Where did you even get the chocolate from?"
I produce another one from my pocket. "Dinner," I reply simply, unwrapping the foil and eating the sweet substance. "Here." I toss him another candy.
"You're going to make me fat if you keep this up love," he teases as he accepts the chocolate. "Mmm."
"No, you're going to make yourself fat if you keep eating all the candy I give you," I correct.
"Haven't you learned not to talk back to higher ranking wolves?" Chanyeol inquires, his voice teasing.
I brush his cheek with the back of my hand. "Haven't you learned that your mate doesn't always listen to you?"
"True." He kisses away the little bit of chocolate still on my lips. "Mmm, let's wash up."

Half a hour later, we are both settled under the covers, curled up against each other.
"Baek," Chanyeol murmurs in my ear, "I have a meeting with Beta Jongin and Gamma Luhan tomorrow, I'll be in my study for most of the day. You're welcome to join if you want, though I thought you'd probably be happy to explore the pack territory and do something by yourself. Kyungsoo and Sehun will be out and about, so you'll have someone to hang out with in case you get bored, they don't usually partake in the meetings. You know where to find me if you need me."
I smile and swing a leg over his hip, laughing as he slightly winces. "Sure. Don't worry about me. I'll be fine."
"You sure?" Chanyeol's minty breath fans over my face. I winkle my nose slightly at the pungent scent.
"Positive. Now go to sleep." I pat his cheek.
Chanyeol grunts as he rolls over and clicks off the light. He turns back to face me as the moonlight spills over us.
I rustle the covers a bit as I try to get comfortable, slipping my hand under my pillow and laying my head on top. "Good night."
"Sweet dreams, love."
