Chapter 12

But in the end, they all drift away. // Even the ones who promised to stay.

"Thanks, Tommy." You whispered as you tightened your grip around Tom, not ready to let him go yet. He may have hurt you like no one else ever did, but you haven't felt that safe in a long time.

Tom was your safe haven.

The two of you stood in the same place for a few more minutes, just enjoying being close to each other again. Tom listened to your breathing as it slowly calmed down again. You let the last few tears roll down your cheeks as you soaked his shirt even more. By leaving soft and feathery kisses on top of your head, Tom had managed to get a few positive emotions to float through your brain again.

Harrison came back after he had told your families about what happened, not bothering to let out any details. The blonde boy wanted to make sure that this guy never came back and that your family knew how bad he was treating you. There wasn't going to be an apology good enough for your father to let this boy walked through your front door again - and you didn't mind one bit. You were going to get over him. You managed to live without Tom for three years, so you sure as hell would manage without Jack.

"(Y/N)" You heard Harrison say, making you free yourself from Tom's arms to pull the blue eyed boy into a hug.

"Thanks Harrison. You didn't have to do that." You smiled as you left his hug.

"Oh, yeah I did, see, I just punched him a bit. Little Thomas over there would've probably tried to actually kill him, we both know how protective this guy can get." Harrison laughed as Tom rolled his eyes, a small blush creeping onto his face.

"You should probably put some ice on that, Champ." You grinned as you touched the sore skin on Harrison's hand.

"Champ, huh? I'll take it. It took a punch in your ex boyfriends face for you to finally give me a cool nickname?" Harrison laughed as he threw an arm around you to pull you into his side.

"I have a lot of cool nicknames for you!" You protested, fully knowing you didn't.

"Drunk, Idiot and Stupid do not count!"

"Don't forget Dumbass and Div." Tom chimed in, making you burst out with laughter.

Tom felt his heart warm by just hearing your laugh. He loved your laugh and in that moment he swore to himself that he was never again going to be the guy to make you cry. He wanted to be the one to make you smile. He wanted to be the one to make you laugh whenever you were feeling down. He wanted to be the one to make you happy.

"I hate both of you." Harrison shook his head, but he couldn't be happier about the fact that you and Tom were on the road to friendship - or more - again. And this time, Harrison was going to be the one to make sure that his two oblivious best friends admit their feelings. He wasn't going to take any more bullshit from the two of you about not being good together or about being too scared, because now the two of you knew that it was definitely worse to be apart than to be together.

You didn't feel like being around people anymore but you also didn't want to ruin the party for everyone else, so you were currently trying to figure out how go get out of there and just be alone with your thoughts.

"Wanna leave?" Tom nudged you as you were sitting next to him on the couch, watching Harry argue with Harrison over the question if Zebras are black with white stripes or white with black stripes.

Tom saw how much you wanted to get out of there, of course he did, he still knew you inside and out, "Come on, I know the perfect distraction.",the brunette boy smiled before he pulled you up from your seat and announcing that the two of you were going for a walk.

Your walk wasn't much of a walk, it was more of a 'walking over to Tom's house so he could get you Tessa as a cuddle buddy'. The boy wanted to wrap you up in his arms and lie down with you. He wanted to have you fall asleep in his arms, but he wasn't going to make such a drastic move, not after you had just broken up with your boyfriend, so he decided that Tessa would be a great comfort for you - and he was right.

As soon as you entered the once so familiar house, you immediately felt at home again. You pulled off your shoes and before you could question Tom on why you were here, you saw the Blue Staffy sprint towards you, making you drop to your knees to greet her.

"I figured you needed a four-legged cuddle buddy." Tom smiled at you as you looked up to him with the biggest smile on your face whilst trying to stop Tessa from licking your face at the same time.

"Wanna go upstairs? I can put on a movie or something if you want?" Tom scratched the back of his neck, unsure of what to do or say next. The boy was scared of messing up and losing you again, but to his relief you nodded and got up from your knees to follow him to his bedroom.

His bedroom - a room where the two of you had shared so many memories. A room you hadn't entered in three years. A room where most of your childhood days had been spent.

"Mum, I'm going over to Tom's." You shouted as you were about to leave your house and make your way over to your best friends house. It was kind of a daily thing for you to spend time at each other's places, either doing your homework together or just enjoying each other's company.

"Sure! Have fun. Are you coming back for dinner or not?" Your mum shouted from the kitchen.

"Uh, yeah, probably with Tom. I think his parents are out for the evening, so he's probably starving." You laughed as you said your goodbye and made your way over to Tom.

You unlocked the front door with the key Tom's parents had given you when you were like 12. Knocking on Tom's door before opening it, you saw your best friend smile at you but not bothering to get up from his place on the floor in front of his playstation.

"Hey Tommy." You greeted the boy as you flopped onto his bed.

"Wanna play a game?" He smiled, not bothering to even say Hello to you.

"We've got some homework to do." You laughed as you threw his Maths book at him, barely missing his head. Tom picked the up book, flinging it back at you as his attention diverted back to his TV.

"No we don't."

"Uh, yeah we do." You laughed, getting up from his bed to walk over to him.

"We can do it later." He groaned as you stood behind him, running your hands through his soft, brown curls.

"Tommy." You whined, knowing he would sooner or later give in. It wasn't like this wasn't how it went almost everyday.

"Oh for fuck's sake, I wish your parents never brought you over." The boy laughed before switching off his TV and finally focusing on you.

"Now, that's just rude."

"Do we really have to do homework now?" Tom threw himself on top of you, as you had already lain down on his bed again, trying to solve your first task.

"Get off, you fuck. And yes, we have to do homework now."

"Ugh, see, that's why Harrison is cooler than you." Tom rolled himself off of you as he also lay on his stomach to start working on his homework.

"You wish he was, we both know he's super lame." You rolled your eyes as you pushed the boy, causing him to fall off his bed and making you crack up with laughter.

"(Y/N)?" Tom calling your name made you snap out of your thoughts.

"Huh?"

"Everything alright? I asked if you wanted a cup of tea." He asked as he flung a few shirts that were lying on his bed into the next corner, "Sorry 'bout the mess."

"Didn't bother me in the past and doesn't bother me today." You chuckled, "And, yeah a cup of tea would be great."

"I'll be right back, feel free to get yourself comfy and I'm sure Tess is going to join you on the bed in a few minutes. Oh, and, uh, if you want to, you can grab yourself a hoodie, or uh, not. I don't know, I know you used to like to wear them, so..." Tom smiled at you before leaving you alone in his room to grab the two of you some tea and to text Harrison to tell your family you were fine and that you just needed some rest.

You wandered around the room, just looking at what had changed over the past few years when you stopped in front of his pinboard. You noticed that most of the pictures pinned to it were pictures of his brother's and Harrison, but the picture that stood out the most was the one of him and you on the night of his cousin's wedding. You had never seen that picture, but it was a picture of the two of you dancing, just before Harrison had interrupted you. Letting your fingers glide over the photograph you felt your heart ache again. What had happened that made Tom hurt you like that? Because he sure as hell looked happier than ever in that picture.

Tom saw your fingers glide over the picture as he came back with two cups of tea in his hands and Tessa hot on his heels. Up to this day he wasn't so sure why he had ever put that picture on the board, but he couldn't completely forget you and delete you out of his life, so he compromised and swore to himself that this picture of the two of you would be his only memory of you - safe to say he failed horribly.

"Your tea." He smiled, handing you your tea.

"Thanks." You sent a smile his way as you saw Tessa hop on to the bed, looking at you as if she was waiting for the two of you to join her. Walking over to the dog, you made yourself comfy as Tom put on a movie and joined you, so Tessa was now lying between the two of you and enjoyed getting petted from both sides.

You felt yourself get sleepier and sleepier with every minute that passed and you felt yourself craving Tom's arms and his touch more and more. You missed his cuddles. You missed lying next to him. You missed having him press kisses on top of your head when you were falling asleep in his arms.

You missed Tom.

Feeling his fingers accidently touch yours every few minutes when your hands were running over the dog's soft hair made you wish he would pull you into his arms and tell you that everything was going to be fine and that Jack was just a stupid boy that wouldn't matter in few months time.

"Tommy?" You asked, the sleepiness clearly audible in your voice.

"Hm?"

"C-Can we cuddle?" You whispered, not even sure if he had heard you.

Tom didn't answer, but he made Tessa get up from her place between the two of you so he could scoot over to you. The Blue Staffy settled down on your legs when Tom finally pulled you into his arms, making you forget everything that had happened over the past five hours.

"I got you, Sunshine." You felt the boy press a soft kiss on your forehead as you drifted off to sleep, leaving the boy next to you feeling like the luckiest guy in the world at this exact moment.

"You're all I need in my life."

Truth.
