Chapter 14: Burning Fires

The festival was magical, there was jousting for show, archery, and all sorts of games and shops. "Why do your always look so damn good," Sharon groaned as she shifted her plum gown.

Sharon signed us up for the best couples dressed competition which included a dance, since Sharon and Amber found dates I was to stand with Bryce. I was almost sure Sharon and her date Fredrick would win, Sharons dark complexion glowed under the plum lace gown she wore, she looked like a princess, and Fredrick her prince. "Where the hell is Bryce he promised he'd be on time."

"You look beautiful," Amber told me as she looped her arm in mine, "I'm so glad you decided to come."

"Me too," and I genuinely was. Ive never seen so many people in one little area, so many kids running around laughing and smiling. The only thing was the ghosts, I knew them instantly, I looked for them, they payed me no attention to me but I was still a bit on edge. Ghosts can travel some distance from their death grounds, they cant interact with this side of the world but they can through me, because I'm in between it all. Thats why I can see them, feel them, touch them. Why out of all days were they all here? So many...

Finally Bryce showed up, I was shocked he even tried to look presentable, he looked more then that. His hair was slicked back from his face, his dark eyes practically smiling at me. He wore a dark forest green tunic and a white cloak, matched with black silk pants and dress shoes, even a fake sword. He even had a black top hat in his hand to bring the look together, he bowed slightly, I returned with a deep curtesy. "You clean up nice."

"I dressed to impress," he shrugged, "Couldn't disappoint you."

"Alright Romeo get in line," Sharon said rolling her eyes as we got behind her, waiting for the music to play.

"I think you've found your color," Bryce said over my shoulder, his light breath caressing my neck. I fumbled with the gold bracelets over my silk gloves. "Brings out the honey brown in your eyes."

"Thank you," I said biting my lip. The music started, one by one the dancers walked off onto the small built stage. My mother and Heavenly were watching, I wondered how ridiculous I looked to them. It was Bryce and I next, I put my hand in his and he guided me to the stairs. Once on stage we began dancing beside everyone else, Bryce and I haven't practiced together but I did get some lessons from Sharon at school yesterday morning.

To my surprise Bryce was actually a talented dancer, he guided me hand in hand, twirled me around not losing a beat to the romantic tune playing. I was actually having fun, I didn't even pay attention to the crowd clapping around, not until it was time to start switching partners down the line. I watched Bryce, and he watched me as we were passed off from partner to partner. The only time I took my eyes off of him was when Sharon was in his arms, what was it about tonight? Why am I so compelled to him? After everything I've done to resist the attraction, it was there regardless. Finally I was back in his arms, he was smiling at me, and I was uncontrollably laughing as he picked me up and spun a full circle, gently setting my feet to the ground.

The music stopped and the crowd roared in applause and whistles, even Roaxannes husband was clapping, smiling at me. This is what they wanted, they wanted me to feel apart of the family and just live. It felt refreshing, my heart pounded with adrenaline and I couldn't stop smiling up at Bryce. "The judges will crown the winners in five minutes," the announcer said over a new set of piano music that played while the judges contemplated.

"You didn't tell me the two of you could dance like that," Sharon frowned her sharp eyes churning when they meet Bryces.

"You two really shined up there," Heavenly agreed popping up at my side.

"I used to dance ballet," I shrugged, "And Bryce happens to be an amazing dance partner."

"He has two left feet, you just make him look good," Sharon grinned at me. "I have no doubt that it'll be the two of you, next year I'll just have to step up my game." I was surprised Sharon was this chill about it, she was a winner and she hated losing. "Can't win every year."

"Sharons won three years in a row," Amber informed me, I guess I see why she doesn't care, the real crown was tomorrow. It was her last year of school and she wanted to end it with a crown.

A wave of grief struck me, harder then I've ever felt it consumed me, I rushed off before anyone could notice my distress. I knew what was going to come what this pain was it was unworldly. I slid to the ground behind the stage as my knees began to buckle, my throat tightened in and out in and out. Then images crossed my mind like a vision, dead bodies, so many dead bodies. Then a clock, in a tent, no a timer, a bomb. Five minutes, I heard screaming I smelled blood so much blood, I felt tears and pain, I felt fire and ash.

"Shit Blair, whats happening to you!" Bryce, thank god Bryce.

"They're going to die, we're all going to die," I chocked out scratching at my throat.

"What are you talking about."

"There's a bomb," I grunted, "You have to find it!"

"What?" I grabbed his wrist tightly, if only I could make him see what I saw. "You're not making any sense."

How could I? It was hard to speak each word ripping at me. Then Cullen appeared at my side, and Bryce saw him! "What the hell are you doing here," Bryce growled pulling me closer to him as my body violently shook, I couldn't even make sense of any of this.

"I felt her panick , theres a Bomb here Bryce and if you dont find it in four minutes and deactivate it everyone here will be dead. Your sister, your parents."

"I'm not leaving her here with you."

"You have no choice Blair will die!" Cullens face held no emotion as he stared hard at Bryce, his bright blue eyes so dark and foreign.

This seemed to change something in Bryce, his jaw tensed and he looked down at me, "You aren't human are you." I shook my head as a single hot tear slid down my face, and neither are you...."Ill be back," he said but not before kissing the top of my head, and then he ran, he ran like hell.
