Chapter 1
Barbara Grizzuti Harrison once said, “All acts performed in the world begin in the imagination.”
"Can you think of anyone who would want to hurt Kellyn? Anyone at all?" the agent, who said his name was Morgan, questions.
"No, no one. Kelly was really sweet. Everyone adored her. I can't think of anybody who would do this," the girl, Thea reasons, shaking her head.
"Okay. What about you? Is there someone who's threatened you, or anything?" Agent Morgan asks.
"People don't necessarily like me, but I can't think of anyone who actually hates me enough to come after me," Thea shrugs.
"Good, good. Would you mind telling me again what happened?"
The girl sighs. "I got home yesterday and walked in. I called Kelly's name a few times and she didn't answer so I went into the bedroom and she was laying there without her arms and legs. There was blood everywhere and the room was torn apart. Kelly's eyes were still open... I called nine-one-one and waited in the hallway until the police and F.B.I. showed up," the purple haired girl explains.
"Can you tell me where you were around seven thirty last night?" the Agent says.
"I was at the library, where I work," she replies calmly.
"Can anybody confirm that?"
"There are nine security cameras in and around the building, I was clocked in, and we had eleven people in the library at seven thirty," she says, almost automatically.
"How do you know there were exactly eleven people?" Morgan asks.
"I have an eidetic memory," Thea responds.
"Oh," he says. "Okay, um, thanks. You can go, Thea. Call us if you remember anything else."
Agent Morgan escorts Thea out of the interview room and into the B.A.U.'s main office, when suddenly she stopped, staring at one of the Agent's coworkers.
"Spence?" the nineteen year old asks.
Dr. Spencer Reid turned around on his heel to look at who had addressed him.
"Thea?" the doctor responds.
The girl stares up at the lanky man and smiles widely. "Long time, no see, my dear doctor."
"You dyed you hair purple," Spencer stated, still looking at the girl in confusion. "What are you doing here?" he asks.
"My roomate was murdered in a gruesome fashion," she says, bowing her head slighty. "I guess I'm a witness..."
"Oh. Thea I'm so sorry," he says sympathetically.
"Thank you, Spence. I'll be okay."
Agent Morgan finally decided to speak up. He gives them a confused face before saying, "You two know each other?"
"You apparently weren't paying attention, Mr. Morgan. Thea Reid," the girl explains.
"She's my sister," Spencer concludes.
"I didn't know you had a sister," Derek says. "Well, it's nice to meet you, Thea, even under the circumstances," he adds, nodding at her.
Thea smiles lightly before turning back to Spencer. "It's good to see you again, Spence."
"You too, sis," he smiles. They come together for an awkward hug, and make it short. "Where are you staying? I mean, since you can't go back to your apartment..."
"I was thinking about getting a hotel, for now."
"Nonsense. You can stay with me. That's what family's for, right?"
"To give each other housing when their best friend has been murdered?" she quips.
Spencer rolls his eyes. "You need to be under protection, in case the un-sub comes after you. Plus, it'll give us time to catch up," he suggests.
"Alright," Thea agrees, "I guess that's the better than paying for a hotel I can't really afford."
"Let's just tell Hotch and we can go," he says, leading her to the briefing room. "So, why purple?"
"What?"
"Your hair. Why did you choose to dye it purple?"
"I like it this way," Thea shrugs.
"Dying your hair kills brain cells."
"That's bleaching your hair, Spence."
"Did you bleach it before dying it purple?"
She glared up at him. "First of all, my hair is deep lavender, not just 'purple'. Secondly, bleaching my hair once is not going to hurt me. And lastly, you, sir, need a haircut."
