Chapter 6
AMERICA'S POV
The phone rings in the middle of the night, startling both of us out of sleep. I groan and blindly click it off without checking the Caller ID. Steve grins and presses a kiss to my lips.
"Good idea."
"Thanks." We kiss again before I snuggle close to Steve. He puts his arm around me and I lay my head on his chest. It feels so good not to be fighting anymore. Just as I've almost drifted off, the phone rings again. Grumbling, Steve reaches over me to shut it off, but his expression immediately changes when he reads the caller. He sits up and fumbles to answer the phone, anxiety in his blue eyes.
"Tony?"
"Tony?" I whisper, confused. I sit up, pulling the blanket around me. "Steve-"
"Mer, hold on. Bruce, you've got to slow down, I have no idea what you're saying."
"Bruce? What about Bruce?" Steve silences me with a look, but too much is whirring through my mind right now. Bruce. Tony. I haven't seen Bruce since Sokovia, and Tony since Germany.
"Slow down, seriously, I'm trying to understand... It's the middle of the night, what do you expect?... Vision? What about Vision? What? You've seriously got to slow down, Bruce... Who? I've never heard of him... Okay, I mean... are you sure? Okay, we'll go there now." He clicks off the phone and immediately starts getting dressed in his suit. "Something's wrong. They think Vision's in danger. It's hard to explain. We need to go help."
"Vision..." Panic floods through me. "Steve, Wanda's with him."
"I know. Wake up the other two, we've got to get out of here as quickly as we can. They're still in Edinburgh, right?"
I nod and run, waking Sam and Nat up before going back to pull on my own suit. It's black and fitted, with tall boots like Nat wears. And best of all, it's laced with vibranium, so it'll be a lot harder for me to get shot. Go Wakanda.
"Guys, come on!" Natasha calls over her shoulder, already halfway out the door. We all jog after her.
"How are we getting to Edinburgh?" Sam asks. I never considered that.
She smirks. "I may have a way to get us the quinjet."
Not even twenty minutes later, she and Steve are piloting a jet to Scotland. It's honestly hard to surprise me anymore.
"So way's going on?" I ask Steve, who doesn't look away from the controls when he answers.
"Somehow, Bruce has miraculously re-emerged. He seemed pretty freaked out, but according to him, some guys are after the Mind Stone, and therefore after Vision. He doesn't have the means to get there and doesn't even know where he is, so that's where we come in. Vision turned off his tracker, so if he's not in Edinburgh, I have no idea."
"Bruce?" Nat asks softly. I give her a reassuring smile. Everyone knows she and Bruce were smitten for each other a few years ago, but nothing came of it because he disappeared. I wonder if her feelings did.
"Some guys?" Sam asks as he fiddles with Red Wing. "Who exactly are some guys?"
"I didn't recognize the name," Steve says, shrugging. "Someone named Thanos." We all glance around at each other, hoping that someone will recognize the name, but I've never heard of this guy. Hopefully that's a good thing. "We don't have that much information. Something went wrong in New York, too. I'd just say be fast and be careful."
"I can do at least one of those," I joke.

WANDA'S POV
"Come on, come on, come on, you gotta get up," I mutter, trying to pull Vision to his feet. He's too badly injured to do this, but it doesn't stop me from trying. He has to. "You gotta get up. Come on. Hey. Hey, we have to go."
Vis shakes his head and strokes my cheek. His blue eyes meet mine, filled with terror and determination. "Please leave."
I swallow any fear. I need to be strong right now. "You asked me to stay," I whisper. "I'm staying."
Our two pursuers break through the ceiling, landing in front of us surrounded by shattered glass. They brandish their weapons with style, and I slowly rise, letting the power grow around my fingertips in violent swirls. I'm on my own.
A train passes behind me, blowing my hair into my face. I just tuck it back, thinking nothing of the train, but the woman tilts her head like she's expecting somebody. A powerfully-built silhouette steps out of the shadows. She throws her glowing spear at him, but he catches it neatly in one hand, emerging with a deadly expression on his face.
Steve. A relieved smile forms on my lips.
And if he's here, then...
My sister appears out of nowhere and kicks the woman over before she can even react. Val flicks her dark hair over her shoulder and grins at me.
"Hi." Then she's off, avoiding Sam, who knocks the man backward from out of the air. I run over to Vis.
"Are you okay?" He nods weakly, and I turn to watch the four of them beat the man and woman into a corner with ease.
Natasha holds up the spear menacingly, just daring either of them to make a move. "We don't want to kill you," she says. "But we will."
The woman sneers. "You'll never get the chance again." The two are engulfed in a beam of blue light, transporting them away.
Valeria gives me a tight hug as Steve offers Vision a hand up.
"Can you stand?" Vis staggers up, still clutching his wound, his electricity shimmering. Sometimes it's easy forget that he's not a human. In fact, we've been able to live as normally as two can in the last few weeks. It was so nice to have the time with him. Vision goes back and forth between the Avengers compound and wherever I am. I should have known our time would be cut short sooner or later.
"Thank you, Captain."
Steve only nods. "Let's get you to the jet."
Once we're on board, Val turns to me, disapproval in her dark eyes. "I thought we had a deal. Stay close, check in. Don't take any chances."
"I'm sorry," I mumble. "We just wanted time."
She smiles sadly and puts a hand on my shoulder. "I understand. It's okay. And for what it's worth, it's good to see you, Wanda."
"Where to, Cap?" Sam calls from the cockpit. America goes to stand by her husband and whispers something in his ear. He looks at her, conflicted, before nodding.
"Home," Steve replies. Natasha glances up, mixed emotions on her face. I don't blame her. The last time we were in the United States didn't exactly go well for any of us. But Vis needs help, and something big is brewing on the horizon.
It's time to go home.
Hey, welcome to Infinity War!
