Amir was still in shock as Safa began to move her fingers. The room was dark aside from the lamp on in the corner. He could barely make out her expression as she gasped over and over, trying to comprehend what was happening. As was he. He couldn't move from where he was glued to his seat.

This was the moment he and everyone else were waiting on. He longed to see her eyes capture his. For so long they had been hidden and he missed them–he missed her. It felt like ten years had gone by since he last touched her, held her. But he continued to tell her how much he loved her even if she couldn't hear his words. The simple gesture warmed his heart and gave him hope for this exact moment–the moment she would come back to him.

Her arms began to move around wildly as she tried to catch her breath, her eyes wide in alarm at her predicament. Then she reached up to claw at the breathing tube in her nose that was no doubt causing her to panic, among other things. Safa just exited a coma; many things were bound to panic her. Not willing to sit and watch her suffer a second longer, Amir wood from his seat and rushed to her, his hands grabbing for a pain of gloves before he touched her. He cursed his sweaty hands for making the motion harder and taking a longer time to help her as she continued to make incoherent noises.

"Hang on for me." He pleased once the gloves safely on his hands and he reached to safely pull the tube out as as steady and swift as he could. Their eyes locked, both tear glazed, as he worked. "Just hang on...."

The rush of air that left her mouth when it was finally removed might have startled anyone who had heard it. But they weren't him, waiting to hear that sound- and sound really- come from her besides her soft snoring. It was a sign that she was alive.

She slowly sat up, her hair falling into her face from her movements. She was shocked at where she was. Wires were hooked up to her arms and chest and the hospital gown made her confusions even higher.

"W-what?" She gasped out, taking a hesitant hold to the material covering her. It wasn't familiar. She was still trying to gain her breath back from the tube.

"Safs," He called out softly. He wanted so badly to reach out his hand and grab her frightened ones that began to shake out of fear. He didn't want her to fear him. He wanted her to come back to him. "Safs, it's me."

"What's going on? Where am I? Why am I wearing this?"

The questions continued to pour out of her the longer her confusion ran. After what felt like an eternity, she finally removed her hands from her face to look up at Amir. Her brown eyes gave her fear away, and Amir's dark ones gave away the pain he was feeling at her confusion. He blocked out the tears that threatened to fall and tried with everything in him to be strong for the both of them. He knew that it wasn't going to be easy and that he had to be patient with her. It had been months since the accident and the trauma was still unknown to everyone. No one even knew if she would wake up. But he hoped she would and continued to hope until he got her back. And now that he did, it was apparent that his hope would have to double for the both of them.

"What happened to me?" Her voice broke and her lips began to quiver. "What are these cords attached to me? Take them off!"

"Hey, it's okay," He tried to assure her, but she made a noise of disbelief deep in her throat. It was a lost and heartbroken cry that sounded painful to anyone who could hear. She flinched once she noticed he had begun to get closer, causing him to stop. "It's me, Safs. It's me."

"Who's 'me'?" She asked sadly, looking around behind him for anyone to come inside the room and help her.

"Amir," He said, his deepest fears coming true when she made no emotion to the revelation of his name. His name meant nothing to her, yet she meant everything to the owner of it.

"I don't know you," She said calmly relaxing back into the laying position she was in before waking up. She pulled the covers up to her neck and looked into Amir's eyes, emotionless. Her own eyes continued to release tears and her voice remained broken. "Should I?"

Amir opened his mouth, ready to tell her who he was and why she should know who he was. He wanted to so badly but couldn't. The doctors had warned him about just this and the dangers of giving up such information if she didn't remember anything. Telling her would only confuse her more than she already was and jeopardize her healing process. The truth was right there on the tip of his tongue, but with every once of strength he had, he willed himself to close his mouth and conceal it. If he wanted her to get better he had to do it the hard way.

"I'll find the doctor."

Before the last word could leave his mouth, he had already made a dash for the door and quickly exited. His heart beat became faster than he ever thought possible along with the feeling of it being restricted. There was nothing he could do but let it happen. He had barely made it a few feet away from the door before he slid down against the hospital walls, all of his emotions attacking him at once.
