Chapter 5: Birthday Girl
A pair of the sexiest eyes I’d ever seen locked with mine and I froze and studied her. I hadn’t seen her before. Ever. I’d never forgotten those eyes. It was green the color that drew me in because from here I could tell what the color was. It was the slant to them and the heavy eyelashes that fanned over them. Women paid good money for false eyelashes that could never look that good. I trailed my eyes down her face until I landed on her mouth. SHIT. It was wide and her lips were so damn full. A girl with a mouth like that was every man’s fantasy. I was almost afraid to let my gaze travel any further. If it kept getting better I was going to-
"I want you to meet my friend Tyler" I heard Joe say as he follows her gaze. She was staring at me as I was at her. We were like in our own little world.
“You must be the birthday girl, huh?" I asked.
She smiled and offered her hand in greeting. My hand slid into hers. Though I clasped her hand with a gentle grip, I could feel the softness in those long manicured fingers. She took her hand slowly from mine and it took all my effort not to snatch her hand back into mine.
As she stood in front of me she is gorgeous, her hair was blond making her look like a princess. She even smells fantastic–coconut, vanilla, and something unique. My mouth went dry, my palms damp. My God, I was a glutton for punishment. But I don't care.
"Can you talk?" I asked.
Her face turn red as she was twirling a strand of hair out of nervousness. She sucked in a breath and shook her head as if to clear it from the date it was in.
"Y. . .yes " she stuttered as she bites her lips. SHIT, not the lips.
I never met a girl who was speechless or nervous around me, they always talk my ears off, which sometimes gives me a headache. But this little beauty who is standing in front of me is looking at me like I hypnotize her. I find that really interesting.
"Alright then, let's start with something simple. What's your name?" I step closer as I whispered in her ears.
My voice caused her to shiver. Aw hell girl, don’t do that. No shivering.
"Hannah." Her lips crept into a smile. As her breath fan my neck my heart skipped a beat at that small gesture.
"Back off, asshole! Don't hit on my girl" Joe said. As he wraps his arms around her and pulls her away from me.
I know Joe is not a bad guy but something about the way he wrapped arms around her and called her his girl makes me want to punch him.
"Hands off, assholes! Tonight it's all about my girl Hannah. This is her first time at a bar. We're going to pick us up some hard-working white-collar men." Amy said as she took Hannah's hand and turn to the crowd looking for her 'so-called white-collar men'.
"I always know you were a gold digger" Joe teased.
Amy gives him the middle finger.
Joe led the girls over to an empty booth farther away from the dance floor.
Hannah slid in on one side, and I made sure to stand so that Amy or Joe had no choice but to push me aside or sit across from Hannah. Then I slid in beside Hannah. Amy didn’t miss my move and shot me a glare.
“What do you want to drink?” I asked, leaning down toward her ear so she could hear me. And so I could smell her. Again.
"I'm not sure," she said, and glanced over at Amy “What do I drink?” she asked her.
What! "You haven't been drinking before?"
"I'm not old enough to buy my own alcohol", She said sweetly.
"How old are you?" I asked. I thought she was older than she looked.
"Nineteen," she replied.
“Really?” I asked, not sure I believed her.
“Yes. Really.” The annoyed frown was cute. Dammit.
“Sorry. You just look younger,” I said with a smirk.
Amy clapped her hands like she was giddy with delight at the idea that Hannah was a complete innocent.
“This is gonna be so much fun. I’m twenty-one, or at least my ID says I am.” She winked at me. I know she was lying.
“You need to let her out. I’m taking her to the bar.”
Like hell she was. I looked at Hannah, ignoring Amy. “You’ve never had alcohol?” I asked, already knowing she hadn’t.
“Nope. But I intend to remedy that tonight,” she said with determination. Too damn sweet.
"I can't wait to take your alcohol virginity," Amy said while bouncing in her seat.
“Then you need to go slow," I signal for the waitress. "We need a menu."
“Why are you ordering food? We’re here to drink and dance with guys. Not eat,” Amy said angrily.
I wasn’t going to let her hurt Hannah. Drinking could hurt her if not done right.
“She's never drunk before. She needs to eat first, or she'll be bent over puking her guts out and cursing you in one hour."
Amy waved her hand at me as if I were talking Chinese.
“Whatever, Daddy, I’m going to get me somethin’ to drink, and I’m getting her somethin’, too. So feed her fast.”
The waitress was back with the menu, so I took the opportunity to order cheese fries and a glass of water. I didn't realize Joe wasn't around until I saw a group of girls screaming when a guy took his shirt off. It was Joe.
“So you’re at a Bar. Was it everything you hoped it would be?" I asked, leaning back and looking at her.
She shrugged and looked around us. “I just got here, and I haven’t drunk or danced yet, so I’ll let you know after that happens."
The waitress slid the cheese fries in front of us, along with a mug of water that was nice and frosted. Hannah quickly reached for fries and took a bite.
“I figured I should start you out easy,” Amy said, sliding back into her side of the booth.
“Tequila is a big-girl drink. You’re not ready for that yet. This is a lemon drop. It’s sweet and yummy.”
Shit. She was bringing her shots. What was wrong with beer? Girls always went for those sweet shots and ended up trashed so damn fast.
She reached for the lemon drop. “OK, I’m ready,” she said, smiling at Amy. They picked up their drinks together and put them to their lips. I watched as Hannah tipped her head back and drank the too-sweet liquid. She was going to like it.
“Eat,” I said when her eyes met mine over the glass.
She pressed her lips together, and then a giggle broke free. She was laughing at me now. One fucking drink and she was giggling.
“Let her out, time to dance! Come on, Time to see what moves you got. You are the hottest sidekick I’ve ever had. This should be fun. Just don’t tell the guys you’re nineteen. Tell everyone you’re twenty-one,” Amy said.
"Ok," Hannah said
I watch her walk to the dance floor with Amy and then I realized she had on red fucking heels. The idea of those legs wrapped around me made me tremble. I kept my eyes on her, She was moving her hips to the beat. Damn.
"Fuck me! She can dance." Joe said sliding into the seat opposite mine, trying to brush off a redhead who was standing beside him.
As I sat down to finish the cheese fries I don't know why I kept looking at Hannah. I never met the girl before. Now that I have met her I feel like I have to protect her.
From what?
Me?
The asshole who is trying to get closer to her on the dance floor? But something about this girl just turns my protective skills on full.
"Oh, fucking Hell!" I heard Joe say as he stood up so fast he knocked over the mug with water. I follow his gaze and I froze.
Bar fight!
I had started to respond when I saw that Amy was standing alone on the dance floor. Fuck! Where was she? “Move,” I demanded, shoving the people who gather to watch the fight. “Now, dammit, move!” I yelled.
My heart was pounding so hard that when I saw her standing in the corner next to the two guys who are throwing punches and glass bottles at each other made my knees weak. She was there.
"HANNAH! HANNAH! MOVE FROM THERE!" I yelled but she didn't move, the look on her face was all I needed to see as I push my way toward her. She was in a state of shock.
