Never A Fairy Tale | Sneak Peek?
[Five Years Ago]
< Hanazono Aoi >
"And they lived happily ever after. The end." A knowing smile graced my mother's lips, as she glanced over at me; her long ebony hair falling into her calm blue eyes.
A drawn out huff of irritation slipped past my lips, as I slammed my palm atop the maple desk. The impact stung the tender flesh, as I naively drew it back to my torso; tears (caused by the sudden collision of my hand with the aforementioned furniture) partially obscuring my vision.
"Mom, isn't there anything else? I'm tired of all this nonsensical trash." I complained, letting my still-aching limb fall back to my side; my head resting against the plush cloth of my seat as I stared absentmindedly at the dull ceiling. She chuckled in return, a hand reaching out to run its fingers through my fiery hair.
"Always so demanding, my little Sky." Mom smiled widely, her melodic voice pleasing to one's ears. I could feel my own mouth curl down into a childish pout, as I turned my head to the side to see my mother clearly.
"Mother!"
Her fingers continued its downward sojourn in the tangled mess - otherwise known as my hair. I, in turn, noticed the weariness in her eyes as she looked at me; a raging storm being desperately held back by a front of calm in her azure irises.
"Someday, Aoi," I abruptly stiffened at her serious tone of voice - that, as well as her use if my given name. "I hope you'll get your own happy ending."
I nervously giggled, a hand immediately flying up to cover my mouth.
"There are no such things as fairy tales, Mother. Life has never been one."
Little did I know that those few words would come true soon enough.
