Chapter 13

Snow played at the tips of her brown hair as Casey was slowly backing up and propelling his car right towards the space at the parking lot. She looked out of the window and saw Yogi Sunshine displayed in a bright white font with the blue outline, and next to it was a small logo of happy sunshine with a cute face smiling.

Casey parked the car where he wanted it and took out his car keys from the ignition. They got out of the car, heading towards the entrance door at a Frozen Yogurt shop. She opened up, and the first person across the room she spotted was Malloy at the cash register.

He wore his lemon shirt and the matching hat that capped his shaggy hair, but in a way, he looked adorable. It was his afternoon shift, and he worked here a couple of days a week.

If Snow had time, she would occasionally stop by here just to say hi to him and grab herself a frozen yogurt treat. The place was swirling heaven, and not to mention if she came on a good day, he just might give her a small discount.

After he dealt with a customer, they came up to him while he was putting the cash to the register drawer. "Hi, just place the cups to the weight machine right there," Malloy said, who hadn't realized their presence.

Snow put her hands on top of the counter and smiled at him. "Hi Malloy."

His eyes quickly moved up, surprised. "Snow? Casey? What are you guys doing here?"

"It was her idea," Casey stated.

"You don't mind, right?" Snow smiled, her dimples popping out.

"No, not at all." Malloy shook his head then he took a look at her outfit. "My, you're looking really pretty today."

"Really? Thanks." Snow wore a simple jean jacket over her gray camisole top, her gold necklace appearing out on the front that says Love in cursive, and black jeans to go with her white shoes. It wasn't anything special.

He would compliment her at times, and it would just kind of throw her off, putting her in that spot.

"Have you compliment her today?" Malloy asked, glancing at Casey. "If you haven't, that's one thing you should remember when you're with a special lady."

Snow chuckled. "It's okay."

Casey checked her outfit, taking it all in. "Yeah, I see it."

She was getting sheepish from them unexpectedly as she laid a hand on his shoulder. "Okay, we'll be getting ourselves a frozen yogurt, and I'll see you here back in a bit," Snow said to Malloy, and then shoved Casey away.

They picked up the fresh paper cups and went around, viewing all the different flavors with the names shown above each handle at the machine dispensers. There were so many flavors that Snow could try out and what she could fill it with; maybe she could have a few different flavors into one. Any of them looked good enough to eat.

She looked over at Casey and he already was filling his cup with Chocolate Fudge Sorbet. "You're quick."

"Am I? Or are you just slow at choosing?" he retorted.

"Hey." Her brows drew together cautiously. The witty remark got to her, and he wasn't wrong.

It was just that she has all these options to choose from, and sometimes she didn't know what she wants to go for.

As her eyes skimmed through the varieties of flavors, she finally leaned in closer to them. Snow started with strawberry, went in for mango, and then a tad of cake batter on top. When they moved to the toppings, now she knew exactly what she liked since two of them were her to go to. Adding the colorful sprinkles and the cut-up pineapple slices, she finished off with the strawberry syrup. Casey had the green popping bobas and even more mini chocolates on his.

After they had weighed their cups, Malloy glanced at the cost. "That would be $9.78."

Before Casey could take out his wallet, Snow stopped him with a hand up. "How about I'll pay this time in full?"

"What? You want to do that?" Casey questioned as her eyes were about dead serious.

"Yeah, I suggest coming here, so let me step up and do it," Snow answered.

"Whoa, that's cool of you." Malloy shot up his eyes. "Wouldn't you think so?" he asked Casey.

Snow blinked at him just as he looked contemplated whether or not to let her. "Could I? I know we always shared the price, but let me do it this time."

Malloy raised his eyebrows curiously. Casey was silent but gave it a minute to think over, and he nodded at her. "Fine, I'll let you."

"You're not going to object?"

"Do you want me to?"

"Nope." Snow turned her head sharply to Malloy. "I'll pay then," she said, grabbing her wallet from her purse.

Malloy flicked his gaze between the two of them and then Snow who opened up her wallet. He pressed the buttons at the register. "That's actually $8.26 now."

You're amazing for that, Snow thought at the price discounted. "Thanks." She handed him the exact amount.

Malloy gave them two spoons and tapped the napkin dispenser for them to take. "You guys enjoy your date. I'll join you if you're still here."

Snow sat with Casey at one of the round tables. The palace radiated the sunshine energy as it looked on the outside. The walls were a calm blue, white, and yellow all around, and the round metals chairs were a soft peach or orange. She especially liked the happy illustration on the wall of the sun's logo closely with a cute cup of the frozen yogurt. It made the customers feel cozy and warm, and sometimes customers took pictures for their Instagram.

She dipped her spoon into the cup and took a bite, and Casey did with his. Then she noticed he had a chocolate ice cream last time, and now he had gotten himself chocolate again. Did he like Chocolate?

"So it's Chocolate... do you like Chocolate?" Snow referred to them.

He gripped his spoon, staring down at the flavor. "Yeah," Casey said quietly.

"How much do you like them?"

"I..."

"I what?" she wondered.

"I like them a lot." His words were rushed, and he quickly took a spoon up to his mouth, looking away.

Could Casey be... embarrassed in admitting for his love for chocolate? She was surprised. So he has a sweet tooth. Thinking about Casey and chocolate, she thought that was sweet itself.

"Hey." Snow tapped on the table. "Are you into sweet things? Tell me, now."

He returned his gaze at her and scratched the side of his temples. "Okay, yeah... I occasionally eat chocolate every now and then."

An inaudible gasp left her mouth, excited. "I didn't know that. Which chocolate is your favorite? White Chocolate, milk Chocolate, dark Chocolate?"

"Milk." His response was automatic.

"Oh my god, me too," Snow gushed.

Is it normal to be happy about finding another thing in common with someone? "So you may have a really, really sweet tooth."

She bit into her treat, with her tongue dancing with the delight by the taste.

"So, why do you pick here for our second date?" Casey asked. "I get the appeal of a Fro-Yo run, but... with Malloy here." Malloy was just at a short distance, and he saw him looking at them. Perhaps occasionally when they weren't looking.

"Right. I just think it'd be nice for him to see that we're doing good," Snow said. If Malloy saw that they were getting along well, he wouldn't have to worry about her nor Casey.

"On our supposed date?"

"Yep, we can show him that we're having a good time with just us two!" she enthused, meeting up from her eyes to Malloy's.

Casey paused, sitting there with him to muse over something. Once the idea hit Casey, he understood why now. "Oh I see. I remembered him saying earlier about me possibly giving you a hard time, is that it?"

"Do you think you're giving me a hard time? Be honest." Snow wanted to know what his perception was with himself.

He sighed. "I can't tell, if you want to know, I'm still...not over my—" It's like his tongue wouldn't allow him to say ex in front of girlfriend. "lover."

Of course you are not. They still weren't at that stage where he could open up more about who she is and what she is like. There were a lot of things Snow was curious about who made Casey felt in the way like he was over the moon for; she must be a special girl for him.

"I guess you can't kick people out of your life if they're really important to you," Snow commented, but he ignored her.

Now Casey stared an empty stare at his cup, and she could feel him zoning out from everything else. Oh boy, what was she supposed to do? It was painful to see him like this.

What if every time he got home and was alone, he was back wallowing in misery, or he was hating himself every minute of it? The emotions that he deeply hide when she wasn't seeing him. The side that she hadn't gotten to know yet.

How do people deal with heartbreak?

She looked at Malloy, and luckily he was dealing with a family who looked like they were asking him which toppings would he recommend them.

There had to be something she could do quickly for him.

Snow held her spoon and scooped up a full piece, proceeding to move the spoon to Casey's range of vision. "Open up and say ahhh."

He snapped his head up and looked at her funny. She held herself together to not feel shy about doing this even though she was. "Take a bite of it," she cheered for him.

His dark brown eyes, almost obsidian black was watching her, and he was left to question. Snow waited for him to help himself at this time. Would this work?

Her own eyes was staring at him like 'No?' The longer he just looked at her like that questionably, the longer she was looking embarrassed by the minute.

Ahh, maybe I do disappoint. Snow shut her eyes, thinking that this wasn't it, as her arm was becoming tired to hold, so she retracted her spoon back. She ate the frozen yogurt.

"You were trying to feed me?" Casey said.

"I was, yeah. You didn't really like it, did you?" Actually, wait, don't answer that.

"You're a little bold than I thought you would be."

"I was not," she denied. "You just stared at me, and I froze."

Her attempt didn't go well.

He shook his head, taking another spoonful to his mouth. Gosh, Snow couldn't believe herself. Then again, maybe she should expect that he would flat out reject her like this.

She wasn't in some romance series. If she were, she'd imagine a glittery scene in the most picturesque way, and at that moment between her and the guy was encompassed by all the pink glittery sparkles. Both of them would be having a good time, talking, smiling, playing with each other in flirty banters.

Why hadn't she experience that yet? Life was really cruel.

"Do you normally get quiet when you're out on a date with your lover?" she asked.

She tried reading Casey's eyes, but she couldn't get anything from it. It was like a fog in his orbs.

"I try saying something if I could think of anything," Casey replied.

"Who was better at talking? You or her?"

He cocked his head to the side, trying to recall the moments. "I guess she was, but then when she would run out of things to say, I fill that silence in."

"Really?" Snow wondered what that would look like. "You have good things to say?"

Casey played around with his spoon. "They're usually random like what I ate for dinner last night or what I googled one time."

Twenty minutes into the conversation and they ended up talking about high school graduation. Just then, Malloy took a seat between them and plopped his hat down on the table. "Hey guys."

"Malloy!" Snow exclaimed. "You're not finished with your shift though?"

"Nope, but so far, no one else is coming in, so I think I can just sit here for a while," Malloy said, peering at her cup, which only had a little bit of Frozen Yogurt left.

"I am tired of standing all day, and I still have three hours to go." He sighed and looked at Casey. "How's it going?"

"It's fine," Casey said casually.

"What did you guys talk about?" Malloy's arm slammed down the table roughly, glancing at the two of them.

"I told him about our graduation night," Snow said, smiling.

"You didn't tell him when I end up knocking the person in front of me when we tossed our caps in the air, did you?" Malloy pointed a finger forthwith at her.

Snow moved her head sharply with the strange expression. "No..."

"You what?" Casey said, his voice sounding shocked.

Malloy turned to him. "Yeah, I end up knocking down a girl in front of me, and everyone turned back to see it."

Snow shook her head. She couldn't believe it when she was one of the people turning around to see the poor girl embarrassed herself. Malloy shouldn't have used so much force because he almost slipped in his gown.

"Are you sure you two are getting along well? No one is going to catch feelings and all that?" he questioned. Skeptical lines painted well on his eyebrows.

"I had a girlfriend," Casey reminded him.

"Right, you did." Malloy focused deeply into his eyes. He was reading him.

Snow set her lips in a grim line. She was looking fairly uncertain about something; she didn't know what. By instinct, Malloy pet the back of her head, his hand rubbing tenderly. "Don't make me worry."

Snow looked at his soft expression resting on his face, and his gray eyes that are like winter and enclosed by golden rings. Despite half of the times he acted obnoxious, he cared very much. He let her make her own decisions, but it didn't mean he wanted her to see her looking shot down.

She nodded silently as his lips curved into a smile.

Malloy returned behind the counter, resuming work. Snow knew he trusted her. After Casey had thrown away their cups, he sat down in the chair.

"So, I feel like our Second date was better than the first date, don't you think?" Snow asked, leaning towards the table.

"I'm not sure, but if you didn't feel too much stress than the first, then I guess so," Casey said honestly.

Was the second date a little less stressful than a first date? Perhaps it's because a second date was more about continuing the spark than trying to work up the spark.

"Thank you for today," Snow said politely.

▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓

Hello Friday. I hope you are doing well so far, and if you're not, hopefully, this chapter is sweeter and could make everything times better. So I did little hints and drops about his former girlfriend. Will we get to know her? A little bit, yes! The details will unravel, and just other events coming your way.

I think the purpose of this chapter other than the two of them going on a small date and just a little bit of talking was also tying in a friendship between Snow and Malloy. I just want to share how much they really love each other. Even though Malloy likes Casey as his friend, he's always looking out for Snow. Of course Kyle too!

I try to make it casual and all about keeping it real. Because I think most people on a Fro-Yo date wouldn't be about being serious and more about if they can keep a good conversation going, and not let it die even if two people are awkward and don't know what to say. You have to create an atmosphere of some sort to keep the connection kind of flowing. Does that make sense?

Please vote and comment as it means the world to me!
