Interlude: Forever Child
Solas loved his life, he knew that it was much better than what Fate had originally planned for him.
In that plan, he was an aspect of his father, instead of being his own being, and in the end, he'd loose his singular existence to rejoin with Searcher.
He knew that his Mama liked this one better, their Soul had been broken at the thought of loosing him.
They were supposed to be brothers, but he liked having Umbra as his mother better.
In this life, he got siblings and more siblings, and a Papa who loved them with all of his Soul.
Umbra was still his counterpart as a guardian, light and darkness.
Their souls beat in sync and they always knew where the other was, he was still partially in sync with Papa, but nowhere as near as it originally would have been. Both Mama and himself were in each other's mind, an awareness that they could not explain.
Oh, his parents definitely blocked out some parts of this bond and link.
For one thing, he had no interest in the messy aspects of wedded life or childbirth, but it was amazing that through his bonds, he could always feel the quiet hum of his siblings's Souls before they were born, once they were far enough along.
As he was an eternal and immortal child, he didn't understand why some beings pitied his unchanging state, he existed as he was meant to. No more, no less. It did not matter that his thought processes and emotional state was usually set as a child, and rarely beyond that, unless his Guardian duties made him.
Part of it he understood was Fate, as a child, he would never need a romantic partner. Mama had lucked out that Papa was his other self and promised one, but he changed enough to bond with. If he had been an adult, their would have been only one being he'd be able to bond with.
And yeah.. no, neither himself, nor Mama, would allow that.
That would just be wrong on so many levels.
He was happy to be his Mama's forever child, watching his siblings be born and grow.
The warm feeling as Mama and Papa kissed and hugged him, and played with him.
Solas smiled as he leaned his skull against his Mama's belly, enjoying the feeling of his Mama's magic, and the soft beat and the growing Magic of his latest unborn siblings.
People didn't understand that, for Solas and Umbra, this was perfect.
