A will to Live
Shades woke up feeling rather off, his usual sunbathing wasn't help him and even walking make him feel like his bones were made out of lead.
Solas and Life were playing near the Temple, enjoying a playmate to play with. A hiss escaped him as he slipped off of his sunbathing bed, pressing a hand against his stomach from a bit of pain. He was too tired to even switch forms, as in his Gothy form he would, at least, be able to move faster, and then he stumbled, he panicked for a moment before he felt relief as familiar arms caught him. "Sorry Ser..." He said quietly, he could still feel sweat on his skull.
"It's okay." Searcher told him, as he gently wiped the sweat off of his husband's skull.
Shades gasped, and he clutched his stomach in pain...
"Let's get you to Doctor Sans. I know that we have experience, when it comes to home births, but it's too risky for them to be born outside of a hospital."
"Hurry, this pain doesn't feel right!" He cried out, as his water broke.
Searcher nodded his head as he opened a portal to Doctor Sans's AU, calling for the children to follow him as he ran through it.
"Doctor! We have a level two Ecto Breach!" A nurse shrilled, horrified when she saw him, and Shades found himself being pulled onto an stretcher and rushed to the ICU.
Searcher ran alongside the stretcher, with Solas and Life holding onto him.
"The babies..." Shades cried, with tears slipping down his face.
"We have to put him under!" Another nurse cried as they shifted him to a bed, a mask was quickly placed on his face... and then, he knew nothing.
"He's under!" Doctor Sans said, he turned around and he motioned to Ser to come closer.
He followed Doctor Sans's instructions, and he got closer to him.
"I need you to take the children to the room to the left after this, what has happened is that due to the illness, the ecto around the babies was weakened. This is rare, but it is in the information that I gave you. When the babies decided it was time, one of the internal ecto walls collapsed. I'm sorry that we have to prep your spouse for surgery." He told the god, quietly.
Searcher nodded his head. "Okay... I understand."
"You need to be strong, he's going to be very confused when he wakes up and he will be in pain. He and the babies will probably be here for a while, a nurse will be ready for you when you come back to sterilize you, and the nurse will have clothing for you to wear before you can join us." Doctor Sans told him.
"Okay... I'll let the older kids know that their Mom is in surgery..."
"Look, everything will be alright." Doctor Sans told him.
"I know that everything will be alright." Searcher told him. "I believe in my husband."
The Doctor nodded, and then, he rushed over to began the surgery. Ecto surgery was always so delicate, especially when it included babies.
Searcher went to the room on the left, with the kids, and he started to call the older kids to tell them about their Mother being in surgery.
A sudden cry filled the air, one that was cold and hungry, and very not happy.
Searcher smiled, when he heard that cry...
"Papa?" Solas asked him worriedly, golden eyes teary.
"It's okay Solas... One of your siblings was born.. They were just cold, hungry, and not very happy, thanks to the way that they were born."
"I know... but something's wrong with one of the babies. I can feel it through my link with Mama, they have to hurry!" Solas cried.
He looked at Solas. "The only thing that we can do now is to wait.. If we go into that room now, we could make things worse and hurt the babies."
Solas nodded and he hugged his father, and then, he curled up with Life, on the couch in the ICU family waiting room.
Searcher gently covered them with his haori. "Get some rest, both of you, you're going to need it."
A sleepy rumble was his response, as the tiny guardian and little god drifted off into sleep.
He smiled at them.
A nurse waited for him just outside the door to the ICU surgery, leading him to a small station where he could sterilize himself and dress in medical garbs. "We're about to pull out the second baby." She told him from behind her mask.
He nodded his head as he sterilized himself, and he changed his clothes.
The soft voices of the doctors and nurses carefully doing the surgery greeted him, and thankfully they had the area were they had created an incision, blocked from his sight as no one wanted to see the inside of their spouse this way.
"Doctor, I have a hold on the second child." A nurse said.
"Be careful." Doctor Sans said to them.
A ragged upset cry filled the air, and a small baby bones was lifted into the air, their bones were shiny with the ecto of the womb that had been their home for nine months.
"He's a loud one.. Is that a good sign Doctor?" He asked Doctor Sans.
"Very, especially with how fragile the pregnancy was." Doctor Sans replied, as the nurse rushed the child off to be cleaned, checked out and placed in one of the baby Incubators, in case of issues.
"I'm afraid to ask, but is the third child okay?"
"Doctor, we have the third baby." Another nurse said, having taken the other nurses's place.
"This is the final baby crew, let's get them out and get the babies taken care of, and the mother healed." Doctor Sans called out.
Searcher started to mess with his hands. This baby had to be okay, the other two were loud, and screaming, as they entered the world... What if the third baby was the one that Solas had felt through his link with Shades?
The baby came out, but it was too silent, too still.
"Doctor!" The nurse cried.
"Place them in the main incubator, quickly!" Doctor Sans shouted, as the nurse and support staff quickly began to place the third child in a incubator that was much larger than the others, and it glowed with magic as the rest of the crew began to heal Shades. There was a blur of motion around the too still, third baby.
"They're breathing now!" Another doctor called, and there was multiple sighs of relief from that call.
Searcher carefully made his way over to the main incubator, and he looked at the third baby.
The too small tiny bones barely moved, their only motion was the movement of a breathing mask and tube. Their was a tuff of ecto hair on their skull, but the bones were clearly female, which was rare since Skeletons were usually born genderless and they choose which gender that they wanted to be when they were older.
"She's perfect..." Searcher whispered... He could feel the fire within her...
"All babies are." A nurse said softly, sealing the top of the incubator.
"I know... But this one's a fighter..."
"That's what we want, this little one will need it." The nurse whispered to him.
He nodded his head. "I can feel it... She will fight to live..."
"We'll be taking the babies and your spouse to the after surgery room in a few minutes, you can either come with me, with the babies, or with your spouse." She told him, as she and some of the other nurses got the incubators ready to move.
"I'll go with the babies. I can't leave them alone."
"Follow me then." The nurse said, slowly and carefully pushing an incubator out of the room.
He followed the nurse, and the incubator.
