Chapter Four

I woke up with the same man on my mind as I jumped out of bed. My heart was racing so fast that I thought it would jump out of my chest.

Senait had woken up before me seeing as I had woken up late today. Rubbing my eyes, I made my way into the kitchen hearing munching sounds.

There was my little angel on the kitchen floor stuffing her mouth with cheerios whilst drinking a glass of milk.

She had no school since today was Saturday. This week has been so tiring and long. I just need a vacation away from this world.

"Mommy!" She grinned at me with her mouth full. "I wanna go walking today!" She was full of energy as her gorgeous grey eyes sparkled at me.

"Sure sweetie." I had already asked the Bossman for some days off from work so that I could allow my feet to heal properly. I could finally have some quality time with my daughter.

I let her continue to eat her cereal and went into the bathroom to remove my wig. When I was done doing so, I quickly removed my cornrows and harshly raked the wide tooth comb on my scalp.

It felt so good having the comb scratch my head after such a busy week.

When I was finished detangling my hair, I got into the shower and began to wash my hair. Then I conditioned it and did some quick twists before finishing my shower.

After I was all dressed up in my jogging attire, I went into the living room to comb Senait's hair. She was already seated on the floor patiently waiting for me, whilst playing on her phone.

After a few seconds of looking at her hair, I decided to cornrow her whole head. Hopefully it will last for around three to four days.

"My birthday is tomorrow," she reminded me. She would be turning eight years old, well, that's what it would seem like.

"How could I forget sweetie?" I chuckled. "What do you want as your birthday present?"

She didn't respond but she had stopped playing the game on the phone. She was nervous and I wanted her to tell me on her own.

"Um. I want to see daddy." Her voice was barely audible. "I know that you hate him but I dreamt of him last night."

I sighed. It was no coincidence that she dreamt of him last night and I got that text message from an unknown number.

"I'm sorry mommy, but I really miss him," she said when I didn't answer.

"It's fine sweetie," I responded as I had just finished styling her hair. "All done. Now how about that walk." She immediately returned to her happy and bubbly self but I knew she was still sad.

I felt awful knowing that my daughter was suffering because of my decision to leave her father. She didn't deserve this but I was tired of giving him chances.

After cleaning up the dishes, Senait and I was out the door and enjoying our little walk to nowhere in particular.

She told me stories of what happened throughout her week and so did I. She  loved listening to the drama that goes on with the dancers at my work place.

We were nearing a small pond when she asked a question which surprised me.

"What was daddy like?" The question was so innocent yet it almost made me cry. This was the first time in years she was showing interest in her father.

"Well, um." I didn't know how to respond. "He's sweet and caring and very respectful. He's not envious of what others have and is a hard worker."

I was fishing around for words to describe his personality. Although I hated him, I didn't want my daughter to grow up with a resentment towards him because I know he loves her. As for everything I told her, that was the past but now times have changed and so has he.

She knew that I didn't like talking about him so I was thankful when she didn't question me further about him.

We continued our walk while she sang a song that she had learnt at school, besides that, everything was peaceful.

We lived in a secluded area not too far from the town. There was lots of trees because I liked living in woodsy areas. It reminded me of my childhood home.

We've passed many houses since I never stay in an area for more than five years. Quite sad actually because just when I've made a name for myself, I have to pack up and start from scratch once more.

It's all because of the fact that I'm a coward. I'm too afraid to face him because deep down, I know that I still and always will love him.

"Want to go back now?" I asked Senait and she nodded her head. Picking her up, I placed her on my shoulders and began jogging back to the house.

Whenever she was silent, I didn't bother or question her. We have a stronger bond than most mothers and their children do. She would talk to me about whatever was on her mind either after some time has passed or the next day.

When I got home, I immediately sensed that someone else had been in the house. Senait did to since I felt her tense up and she tightly wrapped her hands around my neck.

The presence didn't feel too familiar but it was close. It was someone that I had already seen and was sure to meet again soon.

"It's okay sweetheart. I'm here with you," I reassured my little angel before entering the house.

Nothing was out of place but I knew my belongings very well to know when someone has touched it. It's just a little gift of mine, you can say.

I couldn't wait to meet this stranger again.
