Chapter 14
The Moonlight pack had become our home during those last few days. Eventually, I decided to accept Adrian's proposal of unifying our packs, even though I didn't quite grasp how that would work. My wolves came to the main house, not only to live but to aid those in need.
Abe kept his distance from me like I wouldn't notice there was something wrong. We had known each other for a long time, and just as my beta knew all my changes of mood, I knew his. I also knew he would talk to me when he felt it was time, I just had to be patient.
As for alpha Adrian... Despite having invited me to live with him, he kept avoiding all my attempts to talk to him and discuss our situation, like I was one of his wolves and not an alpha of my own pack. It didn't seem like the man who stood by my side when I was about to die on that room. Not only we had to figure out how to make our people live together, but we had to deal with the matter about the mutts. He kept saying we should summon another meeting with the alphas, but for me, that matter had gone way too far and had to be dealt with immediately. But apparently I was no one in that place, I had no authority.
Abe accompanied me in my walk around the property for what was probably the tenth time. I was the most indicated to look for evidence of the magic that had been used in the house during the attack, but those witches had been careful enough to not leave anything behind. Still, I had a good idea of what kind of sorcery they performed.
Looking from between the trees, we saw our people training on the field behind the mansion, apart from the wolves that were previously in Adrian's pack. They didn't trust us and if not for their alpha's orders, they would have probably already made us run. But that was understandable. Not only their alpha was a female witch, as they decided to follow her with their lives. To follow me.
"Was that what you wanted?" I asked, not moving my look from the men training. "For our people to be treated like garbage? For us to depend on the favor of the alpha?"
Abe remained quiet for a while before he joined by my side. "They will come around. You're a powerful wolf and they'll see that."
"What are you not telling me? Getting the alpha's protection couldn't be the only reason for you to move here. I know you two are hiding something."
He stared at me for a long while, as I sustained his look. A grin came out of my mouth. "I trust your judgment, but don't keep lying to me for too long."
He took a step toward me, his hand reaching for my shoulder. "I do have something to say about the night of the attack..." I nodded, encouraging him to keep talking. Abe took a deep breath before continuing "You made a potion. You took it, but I..."
"Wait, what? I can't do magic, everybody knows that." Not everybody knew that and it was not entirely true. I could do it, yeah. Abe knew that as much as I did. I just didn't practice anymore because the consequences were too... Risky. What was so important that I had to make a potion to solve? What could it be...? "Why did I...?"
A loud roar echoed in the patio, catching our attention. Abe pressed my shoulder, as I sensed he still had something to say, but soon he was also looking at the mess that had taken place in the yard. One of Adrian's wolves had his body pressing one of mine's against the grass, his hand against his opponent neck, strangling him. Some of my friends tried to make him stop, but other wolves held them. We were still outnumbered, subjugated.
"Hey, you! What do you think you're doing?!" I ran toward them, pushed the bigger wolf. He clearly didn't expect it, lost his balance and almost fell backward.
"Don't touch me, your dirty witch!" the man spilled the words, passing his forearm on his face, as he was cleaning the droll.
Abe held my arm, probably knowing I was about to lose my temper. "This is your alpha too" he started, pressing his hand against my skin. I glanced at him, it was not usual for him to lose control, or even to get mad like that. "If you don't respect her, I'll make you."
The wolf spit on the floor, smirking. "Like I would ever accept this freak as my alpha. Adrian is the only one in charge of this pack and you are only alive because of him."
I felt it turn inside me, the wolf. Aggressively getting rid of Abe's hand, I walked toward him, finger raised to his chest. "You are only alive because of me and if you wish to remain so, bow to me now."
"What..." The man found something really funny in my speech, despite my serious and rageful looks. "You whore..."
"Do what she says" the loud and imposing voice sounded across the whole property. Adrian stood in the back door of the house, staring at his man. "If you do wish to remain within the pack."
The wolf shivered. I looked from one another, tempted to tell Adrian to stop meddling. If I wanted to survive in there, those wolves would have to respect me for what I was, not because their alpha told them so. Still, I very much enjoyed that brute bowing to me, which brought a satisfied smile to my face. He would learn to respect me, whether he wanted it or not.
________
It seems now that I've started writing again I can't stop anymore.
I hope this lasts long
So, what do your think about the story? Do you agree with Syera joining Adrian's pack?
I love her, but I particularly find her a very selfish and cold girl. She'll probably hurt Adrian many times before they solve their differences, which makes my heart bleed. But that's just how it is...
Anyway, if you enjoyed this chapter, please don't forget to vote for it.
See you guys later!
