Puppy Fight

"What do you think Shakespeare's motivation for writing this poem was?"

I glared forward at Connell, tapping my fingers on my desk. He gave me a smile back, pointing to the board that had something about Shakespeare written on it. I bit the inside of my cheek, trying to read whatever it said, before giving up.

Connell was mad at me because I had 'kidnapped' his dog over the weekend. I disregarded the 'kidnapped' part, because I had simply borrowed him while Connell was at the gym, and took him to the doggy park.

If anything, I am doing a good service for him. And after Connell had realized I had taken him, I offered to give him back after we played ball with my own dog. Connell wasn't very pleased.

Connell conceals his anger and just does petty things, such as make your life just a bit harder. He's like one of those house wives that slowly poisons their husband.

He's been calling me all class, in an effort to make me look foolish in front of my classmates, but jokes on him, I do that all by myself.

Either way, his attempts are fruitless, because I'm just as petty as him.

"I think he's sexually frustrated."

Connell's eyebrow went up, and he looked at the poem. My classmates whispered to themselves, laughing quietly.

"How do you suppose?" Connell asked, standing from his desk. He walked a few steps closer, making his way over to me slowly. Everyone turned to me, expectantly.

"Well, Shakespeare is obviously a creep- I mean come on, have you read Romeo and Juliet?" I continued, trying to keep my voice steady and act like I actually knew what I was talking about. I didn't, but confidence was key.

"And well," I smiled, looking straight at Connell. "Men tend to get sexually frustrated easily."

People couldn't conceal their laughs as Connell frowned at me, shaking his head. I saw the start of a smile on his lips as he turned away, walking towards the front board.

"Unfortunately Ms. Delson, that has absolutely nothing to do with Sonnet IV- good try though," Connell shook his head as he called on someone else, who had an actual answer.

From there, the class went on like a snails pace. Even Connell himself seemed rather uninterested in whatever he was talking about. He continued directing his questions at me, but stopped when he realized I was only going to give him stupid answers.

When class had ended, Connell called me to stay behind. He didn't let me stay behind most days because he didn't want it to look suspicious. Though I was 18, he was still my teacher – even temporarily. He told me he was going to quit teaching after the semester ended, though he never said what he would do next.

I walked up slowly, looking at the tiles on the floor as I got to his desk. When I got to his sides, he put down the papers he was sorting, and looked at me.

"What are you doing?" He asked. He didn't sound anger, nor did he look it. It was almost like a smart ass kind of anger, and it annoyed me.

"What are you doing?" I copied, crossing my arms.

Since he was being such a jackass, I figured I might as well get any form of revenge I could get. Uncrossing my arms, I gave him a look, and started walking towards the door.

I ignored his calls for me to come back, and ignored Dottie, who sighed exasperatedly.

"Why do you guys always have issues with each other?" She complained, and I could imagine her rolling onto her side. His wolf and her never had problems, they were always happy.

The best way to get on Connell's nerves, was to ignore him.

I stayed in school till science, where I skipped because we were dissecting frogs. The smell was multiplied by ten because of my senses, and I didn't see a reason to stay. Sara was sick and at home, and Maddie skipped to be with her, so I decided to go join them.

By the time I got to Sara's house, I was more irritated than angry. Connell was constantly giving me whiplash. Even so, there was a comforting feeling knowing that no matter our fights, we were still bonded. It was better than nothing.

When I told Maddie of the event, she squealed, lifting her hands from the picture she was drawing.

"How exciting, your first lovers quarrel!" She sighed dreamily, obviously thinking about Zach. I rolled my eyes and snorted, propping myself up on my pillow. It certainly didn't feel that romantic- and I wasn't entirely sure we would be considered 'lovers'.

The day after Connell finally bent to my will, I told Sara and Maddie. Sara just shrugged, but Maddie acted like it was world changing news, and freaked out. In a good way, of course, since it was Maddie.

Now, Maddie was lazily sprawled on Sara's bed, finger painting a picture of what looked to be a tree. Sara herself was painting the second piece she would need for her competition to get into art school. She had passed the first round, as we insisted she would.

"If you get paint on my bedspread, my mother will skin you alive," Sara said calmly, shooting Maddie a deadly look.

"As if your mother would know it's my fault," Maddie quipped back, giving Sara the same look she received. Sara just tilted her head, lowering her brush.

"Then I will skin you alive," Sara said pointedly, and Maddie swallowed, continuing painting cautiously.

I let out a huff and stood, deciding to pace from one side of the room to the other. I couldn't do it in my own room because of all the pointy objects on my floor.

"He's just peeved that I borrowed his dog!" I exclaimed, crossing my arms. Sara looked up from her art, now throwing me a look.

"Kidnapped, Ruby, not borrowed!" Sara said, and I glared down at her. If I returned what I had taken, it's borrowed. Right?

"He should just let it go. If anything his dog is 10 times better than he was before- all because of me!" I argued, picking up one of Sara's art awards.

"Yes, because I'm sure he's so pleased his dog was kidnapped," Sara argued back, dipping her brush into her paint. I put the award down, looking back at her.

"Borrowed!"

"Shut up both of you, you're bothering my Zen!" Maddie shouted. Sara and I growled unhappily, turning away from each other. Just as the room had become quiet again, a loud, pitchy sound filled the air.

"Ooh, my alarm!" I exclaimed, taking my phone out. Turning off my alarm, I sighed, and clapped my hands.

"Well girls, I'm going to be off!" I smiled, grabbing my bag from the floor.

"And where are you going?" Maddie asked, getting a protective look on her face. Rolling my eyes, I started to walk towards the door.

"I set an alarm for nature walks, I read that it helps with your mental health."

"I'm sure you'll need more than a walk in the woods for that," Sara argued.

I glared at her, showing her my middle finger as I left the room. I could hear Maddie reprimanding Sara, while holding back laughs of her own.

Humming happily, I got into my car. The fight I had had with Connell had nearly vanished from my mind, which could be a sign of my stupidity or bad memory.

The drive was peaceful to my house, I even listed to rather slow songs, instead of songs I would scream as I drive. When I got home, I put my bag in my car, before leaving through the back door.

I took my time walking to the tree line, trying to remember tips from the article I had read. I wasn't fond of woodsy walks, unless I was in my wolf form. Luckily it was cool and there weren't any misquotes, so that was a plus at least.

When I got into the woods, I noticed that there was a strange scent intertangled within the trees and dirt. I could smell a wolf, one that was obviously enjoying prowling around the area. It wasn't one I was familiar with.

Taking a few steps back, I looked around the lush trees. The flowers had wilted, and the trees were nearly bear, giving the whole place an eerie look.

Taking a deep breath, I closed my eyes to distinguish the scent some more. This time, I noticed another. Worse it was fresh.

My eyes snapped open at the crack of a branch. Turning, I was faced with two burly men, both looking at me like they had found a prize. I couldn't help the feeling that wrapped it's arms around me- the sinking feeling that they didn't think of me as a prize they'd take care of.

Like a fish or something.

"Um, hi?" I asked, putting my shaking hands behind my back. They looked like the villains from a Disney movie. What had black hair, and a long scar going across his shoulder. The other had a lighter brown, and dark eyes that serious gave me the creeps.

"Something you need?" I tried again, this time my voice was shaking. Neither of them answered, instead the just separated. One went to one side of me, while the other went opposite.

"Oh, okay," I squeaked. With a sharp jolt, I ran to the only opening I saw. Before I could get passed them, I was sharply pulled back by the jacket hood, and thrown to the ground.

I let out a huff when my shoulder collided with the rocky ground, but still tried to roll away. The dark eyed man grabbed my shoe, pulling me to him by the foot. Though I tried to kick, it was of no use.

The men were warriors, both in strength and blood. I could practically smell their hunger to get what they wanted.

In the werewolf world, most packs delegate jobs, just like ranks. Of course, the Alpha leads, as well as the ranks directly after. But then there are warriors, people who will do nothing more then serve the alpha, and fight for the pack. They literally lived to succeed, so getting away from them was rather tricky.

I could see the scars on his arms, the ones that he must have gotten when he was training. It made me nervous looking at them, those marks only came from intense training.

"Listen, we can work this out!" I cried out, shielding myself from their arms. The black haired man grabbed me and pulled me up, holding me tightly.

"How about this- how about you give us what we want," The man holding me said. I froze, looking up to them.

Before I could answer, one of the men ripped up my hand, examining it. As quickly as he pulled it up, he put it back down, and looked at the other.

I felt my breath catch as both of the men's eyes darted  back to me, and darkened.

"Where is it you little bitch?" The dark haired man growled. His growl thundered through the woods, but it didn't affect me.

"Well, that was uncalled for," I squeaked out. My eyes quickly looked towards the opening between the boys. "You should watch your manners."

Rearing my leg up, I aimed straight for dark hairs jewels. When I collided with him, I could hear the rewarding yelp of pain. Dark eyes slacked his arm for half a second, but it was long enough for me to viciously bite his hand. I could feel my canines coming out as my wolf started to come out.

As both of them were down in pain, I ran for the opening. Dark eyes responded first, jolting after me.

Whether it was exhilaration, or simple fear of death, I ran faster then I've ever ran. Dottie encouraged me, but she wasn't able to take over, instead just encouraging me from the sidelines.

I nearly passed out when I saw my house. From happiness, of course.

Then, I remembered I had locked the door.

My throat constricted as I looked for another out. The mens footsteps thundered behind me, getting uncomfortably close.

Finding the only other option I could think of, I ran straight towards Connells house. They followed me up the road a bit, for slacking off, fearing people would see. I crossed the street, and ran into Connells yard.

I felt tears slipping from my eyes as I rushed up his front steps.
