Chapter 45 🏇

Y/N P.O.V:

"Come on Y/N!"
The coach yells from the center of the field as I jump over each set of obstacles with Crystal that were set on the field.

The weekend race of the Hunter and Jumper was tomorrow, and I'm practicing harder than ever.

(A bit of info for u guys: “Hunter/Jumper” refers to a specific equestrian discipline or style of riding where horses are ridden English style and jump over a series of obstacles, also called fences or jumps. A series of fences is called a "course." Hunter seat equitation is a specialty area of the hunter/jumper discipline.)

I'm already sure that I'll score my points for the Hunter Seat Equitation because Crystal and I have bonded more than ever. It's the darn Square Oxer that I'm fighting to overcome.

(That's a Square Oxer. This obstacle is where the jump's height is the same as its width. It's is the hardest type of oxer seen in competitions and takes a lot of training to overcome.)

I cross over the other obstacles with ease and control over Crystal, but my confidence dwindles away as the Square Oxer comes closer into view.
I take a deep breath and keep my poise as we jump over the final hurdle before the Square Oxer.

"I can do this." I say out loud, and Crystal grunts and shuffles under me in agitation.
She started to seem utterly reluctant and tried steering away from the obstacle but pulling the reins, I put her back on track and she neighs, shaking her head and stops before the obstacle, standing up on her hind limbs and kicking out her front legs, leaving me clinging onto her reins to prevent myself from falling down again.

After she lands back down, I get off her and yell, throwing my helmet to the ground.
"Goddamn it! Why can't she just jump over the fucking thing?!"
I take hold of her reins, taking her back to the starting point before climbing onto her.
"I'm not failing my first race. I will continue this process even if it kills me."

As she takes off again, I only feel rage and impatience swirling inside me as we cross each obstacle. Crystal continues to hesitate before each obstacle and her landings were sloppy, only fueling my anger as I groan out loud with each fumble.
We jump over the final hurdle and approach the Square Oxer. I tightened my grasp on the reins and yell,
"Come on!! Just jump over it!"
Crystal steps fumble and she slows down, tossing her head and standing back up on her hind legs, throwing me off her.

Luckily, the course was sand-based so I had a soft landing. Lifting myself off the ground, the coach runs over to me, smacking me on the back of my head.
"I have told you a million times already, you need to have control-"
"I am in control! We've run over this goddamn field a hundred times and it's the same result EVERYTIME."

Sighing, the coach rubs her temples with closed eyes.
"Y/N, you have to make her feel included. You aren't the only one in control. Sure, you let the horse know who's boss but you also let her know that you are on her side! With this behaviour you can injure her and yourself."
"Oh come on! I am-"
"Then tell me, Y/N, why do you want to win this race, hmm?"
"What kind of question is that? Its obvious!"

"Enough with the smart talk and answer me." She says with her hands on her hips and a raised eyebrow.
I groan and kick the ground, saying,
"So that I can rise up the ranks, obviously!"
"Everyone knows that Y/N, that's the goal of each rider that steps foot into this academy, so that is not the answer I'm looking for."

I clear my throat, my eyes fixed to the floor.
"S-so I can get back my horse."
"Hmm. There's your problem."
I look up at her with furrowed eyebrows as she continues speaking.
"Your goal is to get your horse back, that's fine. But your problem lies on the methods you are following to reach your destination."

"When you are the rider of a horse, you treat it like it's yours. You treat it like it's the only thing you will see till the day you die. But you? You're just using Crystal as a medium to go on. Sure, you bonded with her but you're losing her trust when it matters most."

"I.. I didn't realize that I was being selfish. I really meant-"
"Listen, this happens a lot. 80% of the riders don't even know that they're disregarding their horse's emotions, but I'm telling you right now. Fix what you've broken and stop thinking about yourself. Make her feel that the both of you are in this together. Got it?"

I nod and bow as she smacks the back of my head again before I walk over to Crystal, who had trotted back into her stable. She grunts tossing her head and turning away from me and I sigh, running my hand across her belly till it reached her neck.

"I'm sorry that I ignored your feelings.. you and I are in this together but I guess I was so caught up in winning that I turned against you too."
I say with my head resting on her mane. She grunts and shuffles, shoving my head away from her neck.

"Oh come on! What more do you want?" I said with my hands on my hips.
She turns to me and bends down, sniffing my pocket. I frown and put my hand down my pocket, pulling out its contents.
I scoff and shake my head as I tear open the packet of sugar cubes before taking three cubes and holding them out.

In a flash, she eats them from my hand and nudges my hand with her nose.
"So that's all it took for you to forgive me?" I say, smacking the side of her neck and she tosses her head and leans into me.
"Okay okay! I love you too!" I say, laughing and placing a kiss on her neck.

The coach enters with a smile and says,
"I see all is forgiven?"
"You can say that." I say with a chuckle as I walk away from Crystal.
"Thanks Coach.. I can't wait for Eomma to meet you at the next association ceremony."

After Eomma met my previous coach from the beginner's level at the meeting, she said that she would meet every one of my coaches after that. But I'm pretty sure she came for the food.. don't tell her!

"Oh, I'm just doing my job Y/N-ah.." She says, patting my back.
"But you have to go home now.. it's 11 o clock already. You need good rest for tomorrow and so does Crystal."
"But-"
"No buts. I forbid you to enter this stable till tomorrow."
The both of us laugh and I lean against the wooden pillar of the stable with a sigh.

"Y/N-ah.. you know you can skip the Square right? Most riders in this level skip it but still get to move on to the next rank. The Square is put there to test your skill and if you cross it, which not many riders in this level have done, you get to skip the upcoming rank and move on to fifth." She says, placing a hand on my shoulder.

"I know that, but I'm not a 12 year old. These riders are, so it's understandable.. if I don't make that jump, I'll be compared to 12 year old riders forever. And with the way things are going with Night, I need to move up as fast as I can.."

She sighs with a nod and says,
"Ok.. I'm just worried that the both of you will get hurt. But on the contrary, I will be the proudest woman on earth to know that a rare gem from my batch of riders made history by jumping the Square."
I laugh, playfully punching her shoulder as I say,
"You're so dramatic!"

"Now go on home! Jimin's still at the parking lot."

"Oh shit! I forgot about him!" I say as I cover my mouth with the palm of my hand. Rushing over to Crystal and giving her a big hug and kiss, I bow to the coach and sprint out of the stable when I hear my coach yell from behind me.

"It's the other way!"

~°~°~°~°~°~°~°~

Slowing to a stop, I see the White Porsche standing alone in the parking lot, glistening in the moonlight.

I jog over to it and open the door to the passenger's seat and get in.
"Hey, sorry I'm-"
I silence myself when my eyes land on the sleeping figure in the driver's seat. His chest gently rises and falls like the ocean tide with each soft breath he takes.
At that moment I wanted nothing more than to lay down and be enveloped by the warmth of silence in his arms.

His body had slid down the seat with his feet resting on the bottom and his hair sprung up on the back of the seat. But even so he looked blissfully peaceful when he was asleep. I knew I had to wake him up but at the same time I felt like I could stare at him forever.

I love the softness, the quiet, the sense of rest. My thoughts slow down like a carousel as I continue to stare at him with my head resting on my seat.

Park Jimin.. I never thought I would fall in love with you but here I am, head over heels for you.

I reach out and place my hand on his shoulder, gently shaking him as he is drawn out of his slumber. He groans and pushes himself up, rubbing the remainders of sleep from his eyes. The silvery moonlight outlines his face, making him seem almost angelic and he turns to me with hooded eyes.

"Hey.. we have to go home now.." I whisper, poking his cheeks.
He swats my hand away and frowns and he lazily puts the car keys in, his words heavy and slurred as though he was still asleep.
"What took you so long?"
"I didn't keep track of the time.."
"No shit.."
I giggle, knowing how grumpy he gets when his sleep is interrupted.
"Sorry.."

*Time Skip*

Silently opening the door, Jimin and I tiptoe through the entrance of the mansion, hoping no-one would catch us red handed.

With his messy tuft of hair and his fingers intertwined with mine, we rush up the stairs and down the hall of paintings. Just as we turn the corner, a figure stands in front of my room with her hands folded.

We stop abruptly, standing next to each other with red faces, hand in hand. Shuffling from one foot to the other, we continue to stare speechless at Hilda who cracks a smile and covers her mouth to prevent any noise.

"Go on, you idiots! I'll spare you this time.." she whisper yells, pushing us into my room as we smile and bow, thanking her for saving our lives from iMmInEnT dOoM.

Giggling, I plop onto my bed only to be pushed down and hovered upon by Jimin who seemed to have already taken his shirt off. His stare travels down my eyes and stops on my lips before smashing his lips onto mine.

Even though it was all so sudden, I kissed him back with no hesitation. Our lips molded together as our tongues fought for dominance. Slowly seperating for from each other, the string of saliva connecting our mouths glistening in the moonlight entering my room.

"You're making it incredibly hard for me to control myself these days.." he says, placing his hand under my head and pulling so that my bare neck is exposed to him. Bending down, his lips caress my skin as he leaves open mouthed kisses. Those sweet kisses upon my neck were the key to my heart and soul, for every time he placed them there I knew I'd adore him for all time.

"Jimin!" I say with a giggle as he looks up from my neck, his hands loosening from under my head and our eyes lock their gaze on each other.
"I have my race tomorrow, I need to sleep.." I say softly as he nods, placing one last kiss on my neck before retreating back, only for his hands to find themselves around waist, swiftly pulling my shirt off.

With a stretch and a yawn he laid down, diminishing the space between us as he pulls me close to him. He fell asleep snuggled right into me. He was always the big spoon, and I was the little one. Falling asleep in his arms was my safe place, my cocoon.
