Chapter 31 🏇

Oh my god... Eomma..

Mrs. Jaemi frowned as she noticed my pale face.

" Y/N? Are you- "

I cut her off, bowing immediately and saying,
" Thank you Mrs. Jaemi, but I really must get going now. "
I grab Taemin's hand and drag him along with me to the parking lot.

" Y/N what's going- "
" Take me to your car, please hurry! "
He frowned but nevertheless scurried along with me to his car and unlocked it.

After getting in, I say impatiently,
" We need to go to *Hospital Name* "
He nods, not wanting to bother me with any questions and quickly pulls out of the driveway.

I just hope she's alright... How? How could I forget?

My heart loudly thumped against my rib cage as I look out the window, watching the objects whizz by.

I take out my phone immediately and click on Jimin's contact.

Lollipoop 💩🍭
Be home late tonight..

I sigh as I run my hand down my face and lean back into the seat.
The atmosphere was so thick with tension and uneasiness, it was suffocating. I roll down the window and let the icy wind hit my skin as Taemin finally glances at me and asks,

" Y/N.. what's going on? "

I notice the familiar roads and I say,
" I'll explain everything later.. "

What kind of a daughter am I? I'm the cause of my mother ending up in the hospital and now I don't even remember to bring her back home?

What the hell were the doctors doing? They were supposed to let us know that her time of rehabilitation was up!

A storm of anger brews inside me as the large hospital now comes into view, my chest visibly rising and falling as I feel the tingling sensation of rage engulf my senses.

She would be all alone, and it's their fault.

After we pull into the parking lot, I waste no time in stepping out and slamming the door shut, taking long strides to the hospital entrance.

" Y/N! Wait up! " Taemin yells as I hear his hurried footsteps. I barge through the door and make my way towards the reception.

" Yes? " The woman at the counter says, not taking her eyes off her computer.
" I'm Kim Y/N and- "
" Please take a seat in the waiting line." She says monotonously, continuing to type.

I close my eyes and take a deep breath, trying to prevent myself from combusting of rage.

" But I have- "
" Did you not hear what I just said? Please go back- "
That's it.
I slam my fist down on the glass counter as all eyes now fall on us, including the lady at the desk.

" I'm sorry, but I don't think you heard what I said. Shut the fuck up and tell me the name of the doctor that was assigned for the treatment of my mother. " I say with gritted teeth.

" Ma'am, if you don't control yourself, I will have you escorted out of here. " She says in a sickly sweet tone.
" How hard is it to tell me the name of the fucking doctor- "

" What's going on here? " A voice interrupts the heated session and I turn to see a man in a long white coat with a stethoscope slung around his neck. His ebony hair was neatly gelled back with his crooked tie, the only betrayer of his perfect composure.

The lady at the desk stands up and bows, saying,
" Sir, this woman barged in here and demanded to see the doctor that was involved in the treatment of her mother. She clearly defied hospital rules and disrupted- "
He puts his hand up, a sign to tell her to stop talking and turns to me.

" Kim Y/N? " He asks.
" Yes. " I say bluntly and he replies,
" Please follow me. " And starts walking down the now silent hallway. After a glare towards the lady at the desk, Taemin and I follow the doctor down the hallway and stopped at what looked like an office door.

He opened it and pointed to the room, gesturing for us to enter before him. Before Taemin could enter, the doctor places a hand on his chest, blocking him from entering the room.
" Sorry, but who's this? "
" It's ok, he's my friend. "
" Family only. He will have to wait outside. " The doctor says sternly.

" Fine.. " I say with a sympathetic look towards Taemin.

" Its alright. " He says and steps out of the room.

The doctor closes the door behind him and sits down in the large black chair behind his desk. I sit down and he places his folded hands on the desk.

" I'm Dr. Lee, nice to meet you. "

I scoff and say,
" I have no time for small talk. I'm here for my mother, but I'm not sure she's here because nobody reminded us that her discharging was close. "
" Yes, Mrs. M/N was determined to see you after she woke up from the day you left the hospital. " He says, pulling out a folder from his drawer.

" Didn't you tell her that it was best if I stayed away from her for that month?" I say with furrowed eyebrows.
He sighs and puts on a pair of glasses and says,
" I'm afraid that's where the problems started. "

" What problems? " I say, a sense of worry slowly growing inside me.

He opens the file and glides through the pages with his piercing gaze focused on everything written inside.
" She would demand to see you and she refused to take any of the medication given. so we had to take the extra step to attach her to drips. We told her that you wouldn't be seeing her for this month, but we didn't tell her the reason as we thought her condition might worsen. "

" Why would you do that? She's probably thinking I dumped her! Goddamn it, why is everything SO HARD with you people? "

" I'm not finished. If she has too much stress, there can be harsh consequences on her body and so we refrained from telling her anything till she was recovered. One day, she opened up to one of the nurses, saying that she understood why you didn't want to see her and that was because of her condition. But as the days went by, her approach to things became increasingly negative and she came to the conclusion that she was a weight on your life. "

His words hit me like a thousand stabs to the heart and I manage to say,

"Why didn't you tell me any of this? I have a right to know! "

" We were going to inform you, but your mother overheard my conversation with the nurse and pleaded to keep the information from you. She didn't want to worry you and we had to agree. After all, the patient's health is our no.1 priority. Family matters come second. So when the time came for her to be discharged, she told us not to call you. "

I place my head in my hands and he places a hand on my shoulder.

" I know this is tough, but we had to choose the lesser of two evils. If we hadn't listened to her, she would have become paranoid and might have had a seizure and we don't want that happening. "

I sigh, trying to hold back the tears that threaten to fall and say,

" I understand.. what's the fees? "

The doctor furrows his eyebrows and says,

" But your fees have already been paid by a person of the name Park Jihoon. "

Jimin's dad? Why would he pay her fees? They have already done so much for me.. I owe them a lot.

" Ok. Thank you doctor.. and I'm sorry, I thought you were the one at fault when I was just mad at myself for not remembering.. "

" It's alright Ms. Kim.. here's her prescriptions. " He says, handing me a paper with instructions scribbled on it.

Do doctors never take handwriting classes?

" Come, I'll escort you to the exit. "

*Time skip*

Everything was silent and the only thing that could be heard was the sound of the car's tires brushing against the road. I glance at Taemin to see his eyes fixed on the road with the hands gripped tightly around the steering wheel. He seemed deep in thought as he sweeped his tongue across his lower lip with furrowed eyebrows.

I place my hand on his thigh and it seemed to snap him out of his thoughts.

" Thank you for doing this. " I say softly with a smile.

" Your welcome.. but I would like to know what happened. " He says.

I chuckle at his curiosity and lean back into my seat and explain the situation with my mother and how she faced my father's cold abuse ever since I was born. I can't help but think that his drastic change has something to do with my birth. Did he not want me? Was it something I did afterwards? I could only wish to know his side of the story but the overwhelming feeling of repulsion and disgust takes over me as I remember how we were treated mercilessly.

" I need to go to my house and see if she's alright.. "

After giving him the directions we finally reach and I rush out of the car with my heart beating in my ears.

I stumble up the front steps as my breathing becomes heavier.

What if what's waiting for me on the other side is something I will regret to have ever seen?  Oh, Eomma.. please be alright.. please..
