The shining night

Now, I'm at the Mindscape with the necessary gadgets, a costume fit for a phantom thief and a goal in mind. In truth, I always wanted to find an excuse to become a phantom thief. You are looking at someone with phantom thief for brains thanks to Kaitou Joker and Kaitou Kid.

In other words, this is a great excuse for adventure which I always craved ever since my reincarnation. To make it less conspicuous, I decided to steal a variety of treasure, stolen before of course and return them to their rightful owner. In short, I'll be Robin Hood.

Indeed I would be lying if I said I hadn't dreamed this all before.

Anyway, I've been preparing this moment for a month in the Mindscape and my outgoings. Thanks to keen observation and steady dedication, I've finally got a treasure to target and the notice sent yesterday. I signed it Kaitou Rubin. Like I said, I've waited for this day to come.

A lot of people thought it was a joke but mostly I don't care, I have a job to do.

I donned on my phantom thief outfit. A red V-neck with golden buttons and lines crisscrossing and a white overcoat put over it with red lining it and phoenix feathers on its shoulders for dramatic effect.

A black trouser that was wide and comfortable with black boots completed the costume. I wore a hat over my changed to red hair with a phoenix feather on it and a visor over my changed to saurian eyes. Mostly to cover up my face and add the mysterious effect.

I looked at myself and thought, it would work.

I equipped myself with two whip swords which when combined together turns into a bow, so I also had to supply myself with arrows with the phoenix feathers on its shaft.

I also equipped myself with the modern tech that would come in useful for the heist.

I've prepared all this. My clone, thank God, decided to stay at the Fate mansion and pretend to be me.

The clone thing, I will tell you, is a bit tricky. I always feared the apo-clone-lypse. So, after finding out that I have a clone, I always summoned her so we get to know each other better.

She was, thank God some more, nice to me. We agreed to call her Lia, my past nickname before my reincarnation. We each have mutual understanding of each other and we help each other with our own needs. I don't overtax her with my needs so she won't rebel me.

So, when I asked her politely if she could fill me in while I'm out for the night, she accepted without hesitation. Lia was different than me in small ways. While I don't mind danger, she rather avoid that and thus happy to be MIA.

I don't even need to explain her why and how, with all facts on the ground, she is me and knew what I wanted in this, like I said mutual understanding.

So I don't think my clone will be a problem. Now, all I have to care about is pulling off the heist without being revealed.

Today's target was a golden dragon structure about the size of a book. It was stolen, as I heard from gossip in my outgoings, from a poor village near the target's place where they worship the dragon like God.

Apparently, the man, Duke Cowsten, appeared in the village one day, for I-don't-know-what, but something that had made him stay overnight and noticed the dragon which the villagers claimed help their harvests grow and bring all good luck.

In the end, as gossip put out, Duke Cowsten stole it and the villagers luck has grown worse.

It took me a few days to get the gossip true. I had to divine the past from both a villager and Duke Cowsten to make sure it was actually true.

It wasn't hard as you thought. I just have to see them and with a flash, I can enter into their minds and divine whatever I want to divine. Powers of a psychic (shrug).

While a lot of people regard this as a joke, some were curious after I sent my note. It could be heard from the whispers and the rumours.

And why, you may ask.

It was the way I sent it that made them curious about me. I was in the Mindscape and opened a hole near the mansion's window. (The author taught me that trick)

I used the arrow to shoot straight to the window which broke and landed with a thud near the Duke himself.

He looked scared and looked at the broken window for any sign of assassins but obviously there were none and he couldn't see me. He looked back at the arrow and jumped in astonishment as it burned and in its place without any trace of ash was a piece of paper, my notice.

He then read it and looked befuddled and puzzled as if it were all some kind of sick joke. News of how the notice was sent and many people were curious who was the person so magical to do something so... extraordinary.

I laughed. All preparations were made. This would be a walk in the park.

Maybe.

***

I've reached Duke Cowsten's mansion in Reshiram without any problems via Mindscape using the hole thing. That was really a useful thing that the author taught.

Maybe the author is not so useless.

<Hey!>

I was in the disguise of a simple guard, doing duty of patrolling inside the halls after I got through the mansion by window when I flew (Yes, I flew! You will find out more soon enough). It's not very weird, that. Every mansion has its guards and they all patrol at night. So this is normal.

A lot of the guards were snickering at this so-called Kaitou Rubin to steal their master's treasure and complained that they have to be up all night because of it as the master thought that the thief might be really a thief and steal his precious treasure.

Almost snorted there, but I have to do this. I started it, I will finish it. I walked to the treasure room, looking as to duty there.

I am not a fool. I've heard that everyone except the Duke himself must not enter or else trigger the alarm inside and sent a whole bout of traps flying after the intruder.

So, I've prepared the correct equipment for this. I wore a blue bracelet which I created that helps hide my presence totally. Imagination and the right tools was all that was needed to create this. I made myself invisible and making absolutely sure no one's around, I opened he door and quickly shut it.

Nothing happened. Sighing with relief, I walked through a bare room spare the treasure standing on a pedestal ensconced in glass and the portraits of Duke Cowsten's ancestors.

Using my visor, I scanned the room, finding it was full of traps. Did this guy seriously have nothing better to spend his money with, like a complete makeover. I've seen him, he thinks he's handsome but...

Back again, the traps were no problem. You will not believe it but the traps are as modern as in my world before even if they still haven't invented the TV, computer or a phone! Added with magic, it was a thousand times worse.

Teleporting swishing axe out to get me, fire moving like it's alive out of the portraits' mouths, spikes summoned out from who knows where. Anybody else would leave for the worse, the best, wounded so terribly you wish you were dead, at worst, you are so dead that nobody will know you trespassed here... ever.

But I've have the right tools and good enough magic thanks to a magic enhancer that I stuck on my neck. I'll remove it when I finished this heist.

I made it out of that never should exist death machine with a few scratches and nightmares for life and reached to that pedestal. The glass was a nuisance. A guy who has created that hellhole even worse than Hell must have triggered the glass case to explode whenever touched except him or something.

So, thankfully, I installed two gadgets on that glass case days ago. It should do the trick. I took one of my arrows and poked the glass case.

Immediately, it shattered, just like that. I took this idea from a Kaitou Joker episode.

The two gadgets put out heat and ice on the glass case alternately. If you heat and cooled the glass continuously, the glass became brittle and broke easily with a touch.

The treasure was just there, my first heist a total success.

That was easier than I expected.

And of course, because author forbid that my life be easy for the sake of interesting, I immediately regret that thought.

Suddenly, a battalion of guards and the Duke himself with a whip came crashing through the door.

"Show yourself. Who the heck are you?!"

I guess it was kind of obvious. There was no glass case and the treasure happened to be floating. There's obviously someone here.

"I'm a ghost," I said in a low, spooky manner.

"Nice try, ghosts don't exist. Show yourself or else..." threatened the Duke, letting it linger in the air.

"I'm sure you've encountered my traps and you know they are very, very bad but a worse fate will be in store for you if you don't..."

Again, he let the threat linger in the air.

I couldn't wrap my head in it. Worse than that hellhole, never! But I doubt he's bluffing, so I took off the cloak.

He took one look at my eccentric clothing and snorted, "What are you supposed to be? Someone from the circus?"

"Nope," I said politely, "I am the thief who sent you that notice and am going to get away with treasure."

He all but laughed hard. I wasn't being taken seriously, that was not surprising, but I intend to leave a big impression on my first heist. Just like Kaitou Kid and Kaitou Joker.

"Take this clown out and get that treasure back!" The Duke roared.

I laughed and swiftly dodged their weapons. I pocketed the treasure while fighting. Compared to that hellhole, this was a piece of cake. The guards were all fire users, unsurprisingly, as we are in Reshiram.

Fireballs were being thrown out and weapons were being used to kill me. I used my two whip swords and knocked each guard unconscious and my air power to dissipate the fireballs.

In case you were wondering, yes, my magic around lvl 110D but like I said, magic enhancer which made my magic equal to those guards.

During an unguarded moment, a whip came for me. I used air to super jump. It looks like the Duke decided to take part in the fight.

He then slashed a fire line on me, no way to dodge it. Covering myself with fire, I went straight through it, feeling nothing.

I landed gracefully behind the Duke and knocked him off his feet. Weapons charged at me again and I super jumped away again, this time bringing two of my whip swords together creating a bow which I used to shoot arrows at the remaining guards, which made them immediately unconscious.

Of course, I didn't kill them, just made them pass out with a sleeping potion at the tip of the arrows.

I laughed and for exit, I simply used my air powers to fly to a window.

"Who are you?!" Duke Cowsten demanded, fear and shock replacing his mockery. I've bested him, his guards and his traps, of course he would be scared of me but I didn't kill him, so why should he fear me?

"Kaitou Rubin," I answered with gusto. "Phantom thief extraordinaire!"

And with that, I blazed in the shining night, disappearing within the fire.
