A debut to remember
It's been two years and finally my debut.
I'm now 6 and Clover 7 who has already finished his debut and has bragged and boasted nonstop about in the past year up until this point.
He talked about the people, the rich and famous, the kings and queens but when I looked bored, he talked about the food.
When he explained about the buffet, I became a bit of a monster and immediately jealous. When Dad arrived and said what's the problem, I screamed, "Why did he have a chocolate fountain at his debut and you didn't save me some?!"
Dad was taken aback at that and asked why that was so important.
I looked at him as a stranger and stated absolutely plainly, "Chocolate is my life."
The way I said it sealed the deal and promised to get a LOT of chocolate based food for my debut. So, right now, I'm looking forward to my debut.
Clover and my family will of course be there and so as the nobility who have already debuted. Those who haven't debuted can attend one's debut which is why I couldn't enjoy that chocolate fountain!
Sigh...
Things are going pretty well, like my etiquette lessons, thank God and the change in me turned my mother into tears and said that she was incredibly proud that I had turned into a real lady and hoped I never changed. Hmph! Only pretending to avoid the Devil's (Lady Rosemalt and Mom) wrath. I'll be back to normal outside and at school. I dislike being so fancy. Bleargh!
My staff lessons are going pretty well too and I learned plenty of moves that I did not learn at the Mindscape with Ettie. A few times I dueled with Clover but I'm getting better and better until I defeated him once in a training session despite being levels lower.
Master Mason was right. Strategy is extremely important in battle and I have been excellent at that, though Clover is still better than me and he knows it.
In 2 years time I am now lvl 55D, which although is not prodigy at my stage but strong enough that Master Mason said, good enough for my debut. In real life, I'm lvl 85B. What, do you expect me to be some kind of OP character to immediately get lvl 1000SS. Do I look like someone blessed by a God?
...
I thought so.
Anyway, I appreciate that. My debut is tonight and the maids are going gaga at my still cute body, still 6, and pretty much praised me for my cuteness and dressed me at their whims. I let them do so as if I refused, they will still insist. Why fight a losing battle?
So, through whim, the effect wasn't so terrible. I'm in a midnight blue mermaid dress with a V-shaped neckline, a bit of makeup was put on me as the maids said would enhance my luscious lips and my ice blue eyes. My hair was let down but groomed to perfection. Unfortunately, I was put into silver heels. The rest, I don't mind. This is a special event so the dress was OK and I just thank God it wasn't a ballgown or something stupid, the makeup I could live with because I tried when I was 8, my first lipstick, in my before life for a school event and it was not terrible, but the one thing I'll never be used to is high heels.
All the way to adulthood, I never wore one single heels, but my sister when we were younger was fond of them. Still, I never gained interest because I easily lose balance and it just plain hurts.
With Lady Rosemalt's training, I can indeed walk in heels but they are still painful. Why couldn't it be boots?!
After doing so, I was escorted to a pair of double doors to wait whenever they presented me as the maids said. I could hear the chatter, then, a speech. I didn't take much of it, I was bored off my heels.
"- and may I present to you, Aurora Fate!" Dad said. At those last two words, the double doors opened and I was walking to my Dad as people clapped at my entrance.
"When the moon is bright, we will test her prowess as custom of the debut but until then, enjoy yourselves!" He said, jovially, to applause and continued mingling.
Everyone 6 and above was here, mingling with their age groups and such. The room used for my debut looked as elegant as it could be.
OMG! The food is amazing!
When my eyes spotted the buffet on two end sides of the table, I was elated. A chocolate fountain that took at least half of the tables, I seriously think I could do a lap on it! My dream has come true! If only I could just swim in that chocolate...
Too bad that's undignified... Sigh...
Around the chocolate fountains are cakes and every dessert under the sun.
The other side looks like it's for savory and different foods are available from French to Russian even though those countries don't exist here. I guess whoever created this world is a complete foodie or something else.
I sent a smile to Dad before I made to the dessert table. As I walked around, people greeted me and I greeted them back as Lady Rosemalt taught me.
Paid off. They seemed suitably impressed of me and Mom looked proud. Girls came flocking to me to gain status 'coz I'm the debut girl and boys asked me to dance with them.
Mostly, I refused but some are persistent and it's only when I rejected them three times and they still insisted did I dance with them but made sure that dancing brought me closer to the buffet table.
When I finally reached the buffet table, thank God, the food's still there. I took a lot of food and went to the chocolate fountain to add its chocolatey goodness. It should be one of the wonders of the world.
Then, I tripped in my haste to the fountain.
I'm going to fall headfirst into the fountain.
Which is a bad and good thing.
If I fell, it would be so undignified and probably bring shame.
But on the other hand, at least I get to do the second best thing for chocolate. Let it fall to my mouth and roll on its chocolatey goodness.
I don't care what people say, but I'm going to marry this chocolate fountain!
Why? Because this is a version of heaven and we can run away together and I will swim in it letting chocolate fall to my mouth...
The moment broke. Someone caught me before I fell and saved me from the chocolate. Why?! I was swiveled around to face the rescuer. Chocolate fountain, my love, wait for me!
Apparently, a boy around my age rescued me. He was handsome enough for a young one. He had jet black hair with red streaks and fiery red eyes to boot. He was obviously wearing a suit for the occasion but what I can't help but notice are the small horns above his hair and a tail.
It hit me in just about a second. This is my first demon encounter.
"Are you OK?" He asked.
"Yes, I'm fine," I answered while curtsying to indicate gratefulness, "I am Aurora Fate."
"Alex Lye," the boy answered.
We smiled to each other but that moment was broken again when Clover butted in and berated on my carelessness and asked if I was OK.
I held in my laughter and answered that I'm fine, all thanks to Alex.
Clover looked at Alex, then narrowed his eyes. "Thank you very much, Lye-kun. If you will please excuse us..."
Alex understood the dismissal and bowed while walking to the other side of the desert table away from me.
I rounded to Clover and asked, "Why were you so cold to him? He's a very nice person."
Clover scowled, "He's a demon, Ro. He's only here because he's the son of an esteemed demon but they can't be trusted."
I remembered reading all about those Demon-Human wars though right now, they have achieve peace but prejudice still lives amongst them. Clover is apparently one of them.
"Don't be silly," I said, "Just because he's a demon doesn't mean he's not trustworthy." Then, I walked away because now, if you will excuse me, I want some food that needs to be splashed with chocolate and eaten.
The plate of food that I was bringing to the fountain and fell beside as I tripped was still miraculously in place.
I put my food under the chocolate and see it melt all the way to the food and made my way to a vacant chair to dig in.
Clover looked at me strangely but then turned around to address simpering ladies at his beck and call.
As I ate, I saw Clover's not the only one popular but a select few of boys who are in a group and two girls with boys, though separate. One with dark blue hair and another ruby red.
Hmmm... one thing I learned about reincarnation is that there's something different about you amongst others.
Both the girls were quiet and rejected the boys before them and coldly at that. They keep to themselves unlike all the girls who want to curry favor.
I wonder whether they are reincarnated but refused to put in direct question in case they think I'm a loon. But I'll keep an eye on them whenever we are in the same place.
Right now, I'm already finished my heaven and went back for seconds before I was stopped by Alex.
"Would you like to dance?" Alex asked. So direct, but I decided why not?
I took his hand and we danced to quizzical looks from people. Some of envy, others of question, but I disregarded that. I wanted to talk to Alex, anyway.
"I'm sorry about my brother's behavior."
"Don't worry, I'm used to it, anyway," Alex answered smoothly.
"That's a bit harsh, you know?" I said.
"It doesn't matter," Alex said.
"Alright, thanks for coming to my debut," I said.
"Your welcome," Alex said. Around that time, the music ended and we disengaged from dance.
I decided to send my way, this time, to the savory table as to try out the delectable cuisines.
As I did so, a girl with light purple hair my age came to me, looking in awe and a bit of question. I walked while she walked beside me and waited.
"That was bold," she piped in without preamble.
"Excuse me?" I asked, without understanding her.
"To dance with a demon. No one would have dared," she said.
"So, what if he is a demon?" I asked, "He's not a bad guy."
The girl looked thoughtful, "Maybe you are right. I'm Elsie Coven, by the way."
"Aurora Fate," I answered.
"I know. ... You are different from others," Elsie said.
"Hmm..."
"Maybe we can hang out more sometime," Elsie asked.
I smiled. Despite being a medieval world, it certainly has a few modern aspects, but I could appreciate it and being Elsie's friend won't be bad.
"Sure, why not," I said.
Elsie smiled at me while I headed once more to the savory table, she followed me.
"Hmm..." I said yet again.
"Well, you are not the only one who's a glutton, Aurora-chan," Elsie said.
I smiled at that, "It's true I like the food, Elsie-san, can't you blame me."
"No, and please call me Elly," Elsie said.
"Then, please call me Ro."
We smiled at each other and something passed between us. We smiled and chatted about food delicacies and others. The party became surprisingly much more fun with Elly. We ate and had girls surrounding us, boys asking to dance and laughed together. I feel like I made a friend.
Apparently, Elly's family, the Covens, are psychics from Zapdos Kingdom and also has the element of air. The Covens are extremely strong as psychics and mostly the reason for the buttering up. How shallow, the buttering up, I mean.
All too soon, the moon has come and it's time for the real reason of my debut, to reveal my element and show off my level, well, that's what people thought.
I ran up to the stairs. At that, people were looking quizzically. Most people would have just teleported to upstairs but of course I was (pretending) to be magicless. The fact dawned on to some people and solidified soon afterwards after a little speech from my Dad and no glow whatsoever (pretended) from the magi test ball meaning absolutely no magic from me.
That shocked everyone, and at the weapon part next, I showed good enough aptitude but not good enough. People were starting to rumor about me, about the defectiveness of my family, of my uselessness, that I was born from a whore, that I was a filthy commoner.
All baseless and yet it hurt, looking at Dad, at Mom and their faces of embarrassment by the rumors despite supporting me through and through was enough to break me. Dramatically, I admit, I immediately ran away from all this. I heard someone shouting my name but I didn't care. It just hurt and I can't stand it although I started it in the first place.
I could have stand a lot of things, but what I couldn't stand was the disappointment of my family. It just hurt. I ran away into the forest and took deep calming breaths. I hated the disappointment so much that I became too irrational and ran away stupidly.
I'll go back, and during the night at the Mindscape to beg author-sama for an event that will convince my family that it triggered the magic inside me and stop being a disappointment. Yeah, that would do...
Finally calming down, I stood up, about to return and be admonished at my stupidity when a knife was suddenly at my throat. Suddenly, as that knife, a band of people in black cloaks, appeared, with good magic skills apparently and good weapons.
My reaction was to stay still and don't do anything stupid because although the level is better than others of my age but nearly useless with men who are definitely, by aura, around lvl 500.
The one holding the knife to my throat said, "So this is the magicless girl, eh?"
One of the cloaked men, in my visible perception, nodded and said, "Yeah, So she can't put up any good fight. So, we are gonna ransom her?"
"Of course, you idiot!" The first one spoke, "Her father is a millionaire mogul and we'll be rich beyond our wildest dreams if we do this. Thank God for the rumours of a magicless girl be true, and from that millionaire mogul, no less!"
I stayed silent throughout, trying to find weak spots. Seriously, I blame the author for this! I said, tomorrow when I'm in less turmoil and more prepared, not now!
But it can't be helped. I bit down on the one with the knife on my throat's hand hard and he let go of the knife with a yelp. That gave me time to get the knife and slammed myself on him behind.
He hit a tree and with a crunch, he was unconscious.
Sheesh, I'm not that strong, I'm just lucky! There was no need for the shock faces I'm seeing right now.
But it's good for me. Stealthily, I knocked each and everyone of their pressure points to knock 'em unconscious.
Slowly, their sense came back as I've done with the quarter of them. With a roar of rage, they lunged at me.
With the knife, I stabbed at their weapon hands as they cannot attack me hard, but soon they were using magic. Instinctively, I dropped the knife and took my staff.
I can't take down so many powerful magic users! I was lucky that they were dim witted enough to let me through their defences at first, but now they are more aware of me.
Damn! The best I could do now is dodge and survive another day. Next time, warn me, author!
Damn, the author ain't responding and while thinking that, I was careless and a man tackled me to the ground while giving me a long deep scar on the side of my face, to be precise, left side from around the nose to near the chin.
It hurt like hell but I know I'm going to pay a lot worse. I kicked him out of the way and used the staff to boost myself up to a tree branch.
Three men tackled the tree and...
Snap!
The tree snapped and using the staff, I used wind powers to land me lightly back to the ground where the criminals circled me.
What are they?! Rhinos?!
"It's over missy," said one of them, "Now surrender or die!"
Seriously, I hate this scenario so much!
They were advancing on me. Adrenaline was pumping and suddenly without warning, lightning came from the sky, shocking them.
I looked down at my hands. They crackled along with my staff. Was that my doing?
Due to this unprecedented attack, they let themselves be hit by lightning. Most were unconscious but a few were still there, looking at me with murder in their eyes.
Then, my hands let go ice energy which I used, combined with my adrenaline to freeze the rest of them.
It is done.
I huffed. I looked at my surroundings more carefully. Silhouettes were approaching, I hope they are friends, I don't have the energy to fight anymore.
Wait... I am slowly blacking out. Must be the blood loss and shock. Before going out completely, I heard someone shout, "Ro!"
Well, at least they are friends.
Too bad I can't spend more time with the chocolate fountain.
