A SOUL for a SOUL
"Petra, hurry up!" Jesse called to his friend. "You're not winning this time!" Petra grinned and ran faster. The two were racing again. This time through the city and to the temple, so they had to dodge citizens and buildings to get there. "Careful you don't knock something over!" Lukas laughed, just walking with Olivia and Axel. "You worry too much, Lukas!" Petra rolled her eyes playfully. Despite being a tough warrior, Petra couldn't resist a bit of playful competition. She was also very brave, selfless and hard-working, but mostly brave. She was willing to cross a narrow beam of unstable sand blocks to get the job done. Now she was being brave showing up in public. The fans always went crazy if they set foot in the city. "We're the fastest!" Jesse and Petra both sang. "Oh ho, not for long!" Lukas suddenly began running, as did the others. Petra looked over her shoulder. "More competition!" she grinned and sped up. Everyone laughed and whooped as they raced through town, past stunned townsfolk and different structures.
"I win!" Olivia cried when they reached the temple. The literally fell in the door giddily. "Well, it's good to see you're in a good mood!" a familiar voice chuckled. "Gabriel!" Jesse cried and got up from the pile they landed in. The Warrior smiled at them. "It's great to see you again Jesse! So, how's being the Order of the Stone going for you?" he asked them. "Well, the occasional murder mystery, a city in the sky, nothing too big." Lukas shrugged. "Seriously? That's more than we did! You really are the next generation of heroes!" Gabriel praised. "Yes, yes, very good." Ivor suddenly shoved away Gabriel. He grabbed Jesse by the shoulders. "Jesse we have a problem! It's very big! You need to see this!" Ivor led them all away. "Bye, Gabriel!" Petra called back.
"Look at this." Ivor had taken them to what was left of a village. "What happened to this place?" Olivia breathed. "Monsters." Ivor replied. "But surely mobs couldn't do this much damage!" Axel frowned. "I know. But these aren't ordinary monsters. Do you know where we are?" Ivor asked. "No. I've never seen this part of town before." Jesse replied. Ivor pointed at a huge mountain in the distance. "We're standing at the foot of Mount Ebott. Inside are some of the most terrifying creatures of all time. If you want to survive, you need to be very determined, brave, patient amongst other things. Unfortunately, most haven't survived. There's also something about a thing called a soul. Not the spirit kind. They are made of your best qualities, and they are the very culmination of your being. If they were to break, you would be dead. They look like coloured hearts. This village is a result of attacks from Mt. Ebott. We need to take out the spawner." Ivor instructed. But Jesse was curious about what monsters there could possibly be.
"Help! Somebody help me!" a voice cried. Jesse immediately ran in it's direction. "Jesse, wait!" Olivia and Axel cried and ran after him. Jesse came across an old blacksmith's. Some of the roof had fallen in and the walls were destroyed. "Please... somebody, anybody...?" the voice continued. It sounded afraid. Jesse then saw where it was coming from. A little yellow flower was stuck in the ground. "Please, have mercy, human! I don't want to repeat last time!" the flower sobbed. Jesse felt sorry for him. "Hey, I'm here." Jesse said gently. The flower looked up at him, amazed. "Wait, somebody actually came this time?! Human, thank you so much! Howdy, I'm Flowey!" he greeted cheerily. Jesse smiled at him. "Pleased to meet you, Flowey! What happened here?" he asked. "They came so fast... we weren't prepared... wait, where am I?!" Flowey began to panic. "Wait, you don't live here?" Jesse's eyes widened. "No. I lived in the Underground. I was Prince Asriel Dreemurr, but then I died and became Flowey. I turned back, but I'm stuck in this form again now." Flowey sighed. He stared at Jesse. "Determination...?" he said to himself. Suddenly a glowing red heart appeared in front of Jesse. He jumped back in surprise, and the heart followed him. "Hey Jesse, don't just go like that!" Olivia and Axel came, and dark blue and green hearts appeared in front of them. "Integrity and Kindness..." Flowey mumured. When Lukas and Petra came, sky blue and orange hearts appeared. "Patience and Bravery..." Flowey breathed. So the missing SOULs had chosen to reincarnate instead of just float around. Interesting. And they were all friends. Except two were missing. "Listen, all of you, you need to take me with you! My kingdom relies on it!" Flowey pleaded. Jesse nodded. Suddenly Flowey slithered up his arm and wrapped around it. "There. Now I can go with you. Onward, to victory!" Flowey, or Asriel, cheered. The others were confused and freaked out. "Um, guys, this is Flowey. Flowey the flower. He used to be Prince Asriel before somebody attacked him. Right now, he needs our help to get his kingdom back! So Flowey, tell us who attacked you?" Jesse asked the flower on his shoulder. "Golly! Where do I begin? There was this human child, Chara, and me and her were adoptive siblings. My mother and father were Toriel and Asgore Dreemurr. Unfortunately, Chara died. Then her soul tried to possess my friend Frisk into becoming a genocidal monster. But it didn't work. Frisk had a lot of determination, like Jesse. They met Jesse when he was just born. Frisk's soul had reincarnated into Jesse. Frisk had already lost their soul when we were attacked and was dying. But their determination managed to keep them alive just long enough to see what her soul had become." Flowey ended. Jesse suddenly had a flashback. He remembered it all. A smiling face, a child with a kind expression, one you could trust to always be a pacifist. Then Jesse remembered something else. Frisk had died in his room after looking at him. He shuddered. Then he felt something in his hand. A stick. The others realised they had items too.
A tough glove.
An empty gun.
A burnt pan.
A toy knife.
Some ballet shoes.
And far away, someone had a torn notebook.
"You're all the reincarnations of the fallen humans. You need to save the Underground." Flowey nodded.
