——- MADDIE HAD WOKEN UP THE NEXT MORNING, and was surprised to see pancakes with a note from Damon. "Maddie, I promise I'll make up for what I've done. I promise you. Love, Day." Maddie sighed softly, as she ran a hand through her hair. Stefan had walked into the kitchen, seeing Maddie holding a note with a plate of pancakes with bananas on the counter. "Damon, I assume?" Stefan asked as he grabbed a tumblr with deer blood inside. Maddie nodded as she sat down, knowing she had time to eat before school. "He said he'd make up for what he's done. But.. there's a lot." Maddie murmured in between bites. Stefan drank the animal blood, and wiping his mouth with a paper towel, nodding. "That's true." Stefan went back into the parlor, grabbing both his and Maddie's bags. Stefan walked back into the kitchen, seeing Maddie finishing up. "That was quick." Stefan commented. "I'm taking it on the go, no point of stealing dishes." Maddie pointed to the plastic plate and silverware that's placed on the table. Stefan walked over, picking it up for Maddie as Maddie washed her hands. Stefan walked towards his car. Maddie followed, knowing he had her food and bag with him.

As Maddie parted ways with Stefan and Elena, who Elena seemed to be doing okay. Maddie went to find Haley, who was standing by her locker. "So, Damon left me a note." Maddie told her aunt, who glanced at her. "What'd it say?" Haley asked, grabbing her binder for her first class. Maddie sighed, leaning against a locker. "Saying he'd make it up to me and he promised, so I don't know. After everything I did for him, and he's done.. I'm conflicted." Maddie confessed. Haley sighed, turning toward her niece. "Maddie, I'm sure that deep down inside his soul, Damon loves you, and if he does, he'd make up everything he's done wrong and do right by you. You're also related to him, and he holds you close towards his heart. Besides, he smiles more around you than Stefan sees, according to him." Haley told her niece as she shut her locker. Maddie sighed, shaking her head. "Stefan said he shuts out whenever Stefan tries to talk to him." Maddie followed Haley toward first period. Haley tilted her head. "Is this about Katherine or Alissa? Or both?" Haley asked. Maddie glanced at her aunt. "I'd say both, but maybe... maybe.. if I can find where Alissa is, I can bring her to him?" Maddie asked. Haley paused mid-way in step. "Maddie Faith.." Haley hissed in a whisper. "Have you lost your mind? How in the world are you going to find Alissa, who knows she may not be alive!" Haley quieted down more. Maddie rolled her eyes. "Oh come on, aunt Haley. Alissa is your blood, technically mine, but you're more directed to her than I. And I happen to know a fierce witch who owes me." Maddie wiggled her eyebrows, then she sighed, turning serious. "Yes, I get, it'll take sometime to locate her since she's long down the line, and our ancestor, but truthfully..." Maddie paused. "I miss her, I can tell Damon missed her. If Damon makes it up for me, the least I can do is find his wife for his sake and mine." Maddie told her aunt, who sighed. "Fine, but not now. We have too much going on." Haley pointed a finger. Maddie shook her head with a smile. "See ya later, Hales." Maddie stepped backwards, waving as she turned around, walking the opposite direction towards her class. Haley stood, shaking her head. "Ah, Maddie's sure got the Gilbert blood in her." Haley mused before stepping inside the classroom.

Stefan, Elena, Maddie and Caroline were talking. "I'm thinking nothing huge, just a dinner at the Grill, maybe a late movie." Caroline told them. "You mean, like, a triple date?" Stefan asked. Stefan would admit he wasn't ready for his sister to date. He glanced over at Maddie who paid attention. "Three pair out on a Friday night, coupled." Caroline told them. "Yeah, a triple date?" Maddie bit her lip. "Maybe you can invite Isaiah along, Maddie." Caroline suggested. Maddie thought for a moment, before shrugging. Stefan stayed silent. "Do you think that's a good idea?" Elena asked. "Why not?" Caroline asked. "We all haven't gone out together before, and I don't want it to be uncomfortable for us. Look, the couple dynamics have changed, and there's been a little awkwardness between Stefan, Elena, Matt and me, and I want us to get past this." She looked around. "And besides, Isaiah is new to town, Maddie could show him around town too." Caroline looked at Maddie. "I don't know, Caroline.." Maddie trailed off. "I think it's a great idea." Stefan told them. Maddie and Elena turned toward him. "You do?" Both of them told simultaneously. "Yeah." Stefan answered. "A night out with friends. It sounds fun." He gave Elena a significant look. "As in, fun." Maddie raised an eyebrow. "Well..." Maddie trailed off. Stefan smiled slightly. Elena turned toward Caroline. "A triple date it is." Maddie sighed. Stefan gave Maddie a look, which Maddie rolled her eyes. "Okay." Caroline told them in relief. She looked at Maddie. "So, you and Isaiah. Tonight." Maddie nodded mutely, knowing how Caroline is. Caroline walked away. Stefan turned toward Maddie. "Don't, not now. Do it later, just don't tell Damon." Maddie stopped Stefan when he had opened his mouth to speak. Elena smirked. Maddie walked away towards her first period.

Maddie groaned as she stood in the middle of the room at the Salvatore house with both of her brothers standing in front of her, arms crossed their chests. "So, Stefan tells me your going on a date with Isaiah." Damon rose an eyebrow. "Stef!" Maddie narrowed her eyes at him. Stefan shrugged, letting Damon do the honors. "Where to? When? Why? And how?" Damon leaned forward. Maddie raised an eyebrow. "First of all, it's a triple date, I.E, me & Isaiah, Stefan & Elena, and Matt & Caroline, who is going. And how, well Stefan is taking me home so I get dressed and then Isaiah will pick me up." Maddie stated in one breath. Damon looked at Stefan, who nodded. The brothers made silent conversation with their eyes, causing Maddie to groan. "Guys!" Maddie told them. "It's just a hangout fun night. Not a big deal. God." Maddie ran a hand through her hair. The brothers broke their conversation and nodded toward Maddie. "Fine. Stefan the hero hair will take you home." Damon muttered, walking toward Maddie, kissing her forehead. "But if he hurts you, tell me." Damon told her sternly. Maddie nodded. "Absolutely. Come on Stef, I gotta get ready and Elena could use some flowers." Stefan nodded. Maddie walked toward the front door, followed by Stefan. Damon scowled at the thought of Maddie being on a date.

As Maddie was upstairs pulling on a flower-type dress with a black leather jacket over it, with her tall boots that she saw one day in a thrift store. She curled her hair lightly, noticing she didn't need much makeup, just foundation and lipgloss to make her look natural. Maddie sighed as she twirled, tilted her head. She didn't like the look of the bouts with the dress, so she took them off and found a pair of dark brown leather ankle boots that seemed to shout "wear me" in some type of way. She put those on and smiled softly as she tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear. She heard a knock as she turned, seeing Stefan standing by the door with a soft smile. "Beautiful." Stefan told her. Stefan wouldn't admit, he was nervous seeing his sister going on a date for the first time in his life to be exact. Back then, Madelyn had courted Isaiah, but it wasn't the fact they had a strict platonic relationship. Maddie turned to her brother, gaining a blush on her cheeks. "Thanks Stef, how did Elena take the flowers?" She asked as she walked toward him. Stefan held his arm out, as Maddie gently grasped his elbow. Stefan led her out of her bedroom. "She liked them." Stefan smiled. Maddie noticed Isaiah in the doorway, dressed in casual clothing consisting of a t-shirt and blue jeans with his platinum blonde hair slicked back, hands in his pockets. Isaiah's eyes widened a fraction, noticing how beautiful Maddie was. "Madelyn..." Isaiah breathed. Stefan narrowed his eyes at Isaiah in warning. Both vampires conveyed one another in their eyes. Isaiah gave a mild nod, Stefan relaxed slightly. "We'll follow shortly." Stefan kissed Maddie's cheek, smiling softly. "I'll see you." Maddie whispered as she gently grasped Isaiah's arm as he held it out for her to take. Stefan nodded as Isaiah led Maddie out of the house. Stefan turned to see Elena, smiling softly at him.

As Isaiah led Maddie into the Grill, the first thing she noticed was Damon with Kelly Donovan. "You've got to be kidding me." Maddie paused in mid-step, mouth opened in shock. Isaiah turned to Maddie, following his gaze. "Ah, the raven found a woman for a one night stand." Isaiah murmured. Maddie tilted her head. "Come on, I gotta tell Stefan." Maddie pulled Isaiah's hand toward their table. She found Stefan, Elena, Caroline and Matt sitting around a table. Maddie walked toward her sister and Caroline, smiling. Isaiah stood aside Stefan, whispering in his ear what he had saw. Stefan faced Maddie, who gave a mild nod toward Damon. Stefan shook his head. "So, Matt, how do you like working here?" Elena asked. Maddie raised an eyebrow. "It's not that bad." Matt answered. "Wait staff is pretty good, and they can't keep a bartender to save their lives. I actually put my mom up for a job." Maddie raised an eyebrow as she sipped on her Dr. Pepper. "How has that been?" Maddie asked. "You know, same old Kelly." Matt answered. "She's trying, sort of." Elena looked at Stefan. "Kelly, and my mom were best friends growing up. That's how Matt and I met, we shared a crib together." Maddie already knew this, but it amused her as she teased Elena about it as she got older. "You're kidding?" Stefan told her. Maddie's lips twitched. "No." Matt answered. "We have known each other our whole lives." Maddie noticed Elena and Matt looked at each other. Caroline sighed. Suddenly, they heard laughter coming from the bar. They all turned to look. "Told you so." Maddie murmured quietly, Stefan and Isaiah heard. "Oh my God." Elena told them, scoffing. Maddie noticed her aunt Jenna, Haley, Kelly and Damon were at the bar, taking shots, drunk. "You got to be kidding me." Matt told them. "I agree with Matt." Maddie told them. Maddie looked from Elena to Matt, scoffing, shaking her head, looking down.

Haley noticed Isaiah walking toward an empty table, tilting his head. Haley sat her filled shot down and walked toward him. "How much?" Isaiah asked her. Haley rose an eyebrow, sliding in the chair. "I knew better not to get drunk, especially in front of my nieces. Jenna, she.. she hadn't been out herself since Greyson died, so I let that go." Haley told him. Isaiah nodded. Haley looked behind Isaiah to see Stefan and Maddie watching them. "Damon, though, is drunk." Haley rolled her eyes. "We've gathered that much." Isaiah nodded. "Miss. Gilbert, I suggest you head home for the night. I'd welcome to escort you if you wish?" Isaiah asked. Haley noticed Stefan nodding his head. Haley sighed. "I'll accept your offer. Besides I'm tired anyways." Haley stood up, turning to face Jenna who was laughing at something Kelly had said. Haley rolled her eyes and followed Isaiah.

Maddie sighed as she turned back into the conversation with Matt, Elena, Stefan and Caroline. They were playing pool and Maddie was sitting on a stool by a table in a corner. "Well, at least they're having fun." Maddie commented in. "They're drunk." Elena told them. "Remember when Maddie and Elena's parents busted us here after Homecoming?" Matt asked. Maddie groaned as she shook her head. Stefan's lips twitched. "Oh, my God." Caroline told them. Elena laughed. "Yes!" Maddie smiled, looking toward her brother as Elena and Matt explained that night to him. "Maddie was there too, but she was the only one of us sober and drove us home. We were all wasted. It was the first time I'd ever got drunk." Elena told them. "And you blamed Matt, remember?" Maddie told her sister, laughing at Matt's expression. "Their parents got seated at the next booth." Matt told Stefan. "Maddie was so embarrassed, since she only had a glass of water at the table whilst we had alcohol." Elena told him. "Elena was choking so we could sneak away." Maddie added in. "Except our dad was a doctor, and he jumped up to save her." Maddie told Stefan. Stefan smiled. "And I ran, and slipped on the west floor, and bit it, in front of everyone." Elena told him. "Remember that?" Maddie noticed Caroline was no longer happy. "Three stitches, a hangover for day." Elena looked at Matt. "Maddie laughed at me for days, and I was grounded from seeing this one for a week." Caroline smiled. "I'm going to go to the restroom." She walked around Matt. "Elena?" Maddie noticed Elena's smile faded away, following Caroline. Stefan looked at Maddie. Maddie gave a tiny smile, taking a French Fry, tossing it into her mouth. Stefan chuckled.

Stefan leaned down, taking another shot, making it. Maddie cheered him on. "Is there anything you're not good at?" Matt asked. Stefan nodded. "Triple dating." Matt chuckled, leaning down, taking a shot. "It's all very new to me." Maddie smiled. "Mine bailed." Maddie shrugged. "Well, you did ask Isaiah to take your aunt home." Matt raised an eyebrow at Maddie. "True enough, but I knew Isaiah would wanted Haley home if I asked him, besides, it didn't feel right being with Isaiah." Maddie shrugged. "Hm, sure." Matt told her. "Besides, what about you, Stefan?" Maddie turned toward Stefan. Stefan shrugged. "I usually keep to myself, not really fitting in." Stefan told them. Maddie frowned. "That's because your that guy." Matt told him. Maddie turned to Matt, frowning in confusion. "What guy?" She asked, turning to Stefan. "The guy who seems to like he has everything." Matt answered. "So people don't know run the other way. Trust me, I know." Maddie frowned. "Is that what I seem like?" Stefan asked. Maddie frowned as if in thought. "Pretty much, yeah." Matt told him. Matt leaned down, taking a shot. "Hmm." Stefan nodded. "What a dick." Matt stood straight. "Yeah." Maddie shook her head, taking a sip of her refilled Dr. Pepper. Stefan smiled, leaning down to take a shot, making it bounce off the side, going into the second pocket. Maddie smiled.

Maddie noticed Elena's expression as they walked toward them. Maddie's eyes furrowed in concern. "How's everything going?" Elena asked. Maddie laughed. "Matt's cheating." Stefan told her. Maddie snickered at the look of shock on Matt's face. "Am not." Matt told them. Maddie rolled her eyes. Further away, Beth-Anne, Fedrick and Billy were watching them. "Madelyn..." Beth-Anne whispered in disbelief. "Stefan Salvatore." Fredrick told them. Elena pulled out her phone, typing expressionlessly. Maddie turned toward the group watching them, giving a small smile. The group's eyes widen in shock, waving. "Everything okay?" Stefan asked. Elena nodded. "Everything's great." Elena showed Stefan the text. Stefan looked in the direction Beth-Anne, Fredrick and Billy had been, walking closer, but they had disappeared. Maddie stepped closer to Elena. "What's going on?" Elena shook her head, glancing toward Matt and Caroline, showing Maddie the text. "Nothing." Maddie leaned over, reading the text. "That man over there just called me Katherine." Maddie looked at Elena in confusion and alarm. Elena nodded. Both sisters turned toward Stefan. Stefan continued to look for the vampires. They had disappeared. "Stef?" Maddie asked warily. Stefan turned to his sister, faking a smile on his face. "What's up?" Stefan asked. Maddie's eyes furrowed in confusion and worry. Stefan subtly shook his head, throwing an arm over her shoulder casually. Matt and Caroline noticed. Elena knew this was a protective gesture toward Maddie.

As Elena parked her car, talking to Stefan. Maddie was laying in the backseat, passed out asleep. "So, you didn't recognize him?" Stefan asked. "You haven't seen him before?" Stefan glanced at Elena. "No." Elena answered. "There was nothing familiar about him at all. But he was standing with two others. A guy and a girl." Elena looked at Stefan. "Right." Stefan told her. "Let's call it a night, okay? Send Matt and Caroline home?" Elena shook her head. "No, the whole point of the night was to not have to deal with this stuff." Elena told him. "We need to get through one night. One normal night." Elena glanced behind Stefan to see Maddie asleep. "You're sure?" Stefan asked. "No, I'm not sure." Elena answered. "And I don't know what else to do. Look, if there's other vampires in town, they'll still be here tomorrow. We'll deal with it tomorrow." Stefan hesitated. "Okay." Stefan told her. They both noticed Matt and Caroline arrived. Matt parked his truck. "It's Matt and Caroline. Come here." Stefan kissed Elena. Elena smiled softly. "I'll take Maddie into her room we had saved for her." Stefan told her quietly. Elena nodded.

Stefan and Elena got of the car, Elena joined Matt and Caroline. Stefan went toward the back passenger door, opening it. Gently picking up Maddie, cradling her against his chest, he follows Elena and others inside. Matt and Caroline noticed Stefan carrying Maddie as she slept. Maddie consciously grips onto Stefan's shirt, inhaling his scent, burying her head further. Stefan chuckled as he recognized one thing Madelyn once did. Elena rose an eyebrow. "I'm gonna go lay her in my bed." Stefan told the others. Matt, Caroline and Elena nodded. Stefan walked down a long hallway and up the staircase toward his bedroom.

Haley sighed as she stood in the kitchen. Isaiah had left after an hour of talking about nothing for no reasons. Haley admitted that her family hunted vampires, but Haley didn't have a clue until she had come home for Greyson's funeral. She knew that her family was a Founding family, and it was important to show it to the town. Isaiah informed her of his intentions with Maddie, protecting her, and deliberating information for his brother to lead to. Isaiah knew that his brother would eventually learn of Elena's presence, nevertheless Maddie's. Haley turned to see her sister in-law and nephew fixing something to eat. "All right, roast beef, turkey, what do you want?" Haley rolled her eyes. "Okay, let's talk about Maddie." Haley turned around. "Jeremy, I know you know. What else did she tell you." Jeremy opened his mouth, then closed it. Jenna looked at Haley confused, before realizing what she meant. "Just about her dreams appearing lot less?" Jeremy asked. Haley rolled her eyes, grabbing the bread from Jenna, and grabbing Mayo. "Her dreams?" Jenna asked. Jeremy nodded. "She said they're coming less frequent. Some of them are Stefan, Damon and then there's some of Isaiah." Jeremy shrugged, grabbing the sandwich Haley had made. Haley rose an eyebrow. "Huh." Haley mused, shaking her head. "Our little Maddie lived through all that. Wow." Jenna laughed. Jeremy smiled at his two aunts.

Later that night, Maddie was asleep in Stefan's room, buried under the sheets of his scent. Damon poured a glass of tequila. Stefan walked in, giving Damon a disapproving look. "Don't look at me like that." Damon told him. "Are you crazy?" Stefan asked. "Save the lecture." Damon told him. "Look—." Fredrick crashed through the window, shattering it with a piece of glass, pushing him aside. Stefan rushed toward Damon, punched Fredrick in the face. Damon groaned. Stefan pulled a piece of glass out of Damon's chest. Beth-Anne jumped in though the shattered glass, crouched in a defensive position. Stefan rushed toward Beth-Anne. Beth-Anne gripped Stefan's throat, tossing him over against a table, making it smash. Damon whooshed toward Fredrick, taking a piece of wood from the smashed table, breaking it, turning it into a stake. Stefan grabbed a piece of wood, staking Beth-Anne in the heart, killing her, letting the body fall to the floor. Fredrick had noticed the entire thing, looking at Stefan angrily. Maddie rushed in, breathing heavily as she heard the commotion. Luckily, she had found a stake in Stefan's room. Stefan had tossed Billy outside the window, smashing the window more. Damon, Maddie, who surprised not only Stefan and Damon, but Fredrick, who stood in between Stefan and Damon, stood together, looking at Fredrick. "Madelyn..." Fredrick whispered breathlessly. Damon and Stefan stepped forward. Fredrick rushed away, leaving. Billy stood, following him. "Damn it." Damon told them. "You okay?" Stefan looked at Maddie, raising an eyebrow, seeing a stake in her hand. "Yeah, the whole thing woke me up, and I instinctively knew something was wrong, so I grabbed a stake." Maddie breathed heavily from running. Stefan nodded. "I remember them, from 1864." Stefan told Damon. "They were in the tomb." Maddie looked at them in confusion. "Yeah..." Damon trailed off awkwardly. "About that..." Maddie groaned, closing her eyes. "Seriously?" Maddie breathed. "Seriously? You've got to be kidding me. Damon!" Maddie turned toward her brother. Damon winced. Maddie shook her head, throwing the stake toward Damon. "Excuse me, I'm going to bed. Goodnight, Stef, wake me in the morning, yeah?" Maddie turned to Stefan. Stefan nodded, giving a small smile. Maddie turned around, walking upstairs. Damon and Stefan watched her, both sighing. "And there's the attitude." Damon trailed off. Stefan looked at his brother, shaking his head as he walked away to call Elena.

Damon leaned against the doorframe, watching Maddie sleep. Damon walked in further into the room, beside Stefan's bed. He gently caressed her cheek. "I'm sorry." Damon murmured. "I promise, I'll do right by you." Damon leaned down, kissing Maddie's forehead. Maddie subconsciously leaned into Damon's touch, sighing blissfully, snuggling further into Stefan's pillow. Damon sighed as he stood up, turning around, seeing Stefan watching Maddie. Damon shook his head, walking out of the bedroom. Stefan sighed, as he watched Damon walk away.

• A new chapter is up! I'm excited that this book is halfway through, finally.
• So things are beginning to become intense, the next chapter is gonna be good.
• I know this chapter is short, but I'm trying here.
• Maddie will discover more secrets as this story progresses.
• You know the saying as Damon told Elena in season 7? Well there's a reason that Damon tells Maddie "I promise to do right by you." And that's very, very important in this story between Damon and Maddie. And the fact that he tells Elena, that's where he gets the sentence from, is by telling Maddie, he also promises to do right by Elena, I had thought that sentence needed a story before he'd told Elena (whilst she's in a coffin) and bam, there's the start of that whole thing.
• I've decided that Isaiah will become less apparent the rest of the season, because of the whole Mystic Falls deal and Stefan stuff, and plus Isaiah has his family to deal with so, Maddie's gonna be Salvatore duty from now on.
• Stay tuned for Let the Right Ones In!

[ it's also Madelyn Salvatore's birthday along with her brother Stefan, so I'll post this in honor of them. Enjoy! 11/01/2018 ]
