Chapter 03:

The pills which Akira Nadai had created to gain strength weren't miracle working but had indeed worked. She could have done twice the amount of exercises the Uchiha had instructed her to do and she still had a bit of energy left in her after doing so.

Oh, if only she could have down bottles of these pills, but the child knew she couldn't. The maximum amount of pills she could of took and had taken were three. Anymore than the number three, even with her gaining strength and stamina there would be adverse effects on her little body. A price came with everything.

Well, it wasn't like the child with the mind of a ninja was planning to solve her problem with these pills. Akira desired them to be her starting pillar, because when she had examined herself, she had discovered this body was too weak and fragile even for an average child her age.

Was this how the world played fairness, allowing her to be born in such a weak body because of the prodigal body she had as Hikari Senju?

To become a ninja she had to place triple the effort more than an ordinary person.

After doing four sets of four which included: ten push ups, ten jumping jacks, ten sit-ups and swats, Akira commenced for her jog around the training field.

Haruka witnessed her child training from the sidelines. Two weeks had passed and this daughter of her's still hadn't given up. She even did exercises like she was doing now when her instructor wasn't here.

Mitsuru trotted over to his spouse's side, "Aki has improved quickly. She couldn't even do a single push-up two weeks ago. But here she is doing sets then running. I even found out that when the maids go out shopping to buy groceries or other necessities, that she told them to inform her when they were going to and to take her along. One of the ways in how she build up her strength."

Haruka gripped her clenched hand. Why was her daughter willing to work so hard to become a ninja? Did she want an early death that badly? The mother narrowed her light green eyes, "Mitsuru, tell Shisui-kun that he doesn't need to come back. Akira isn't becoming a ninja."

"Not going to wait until the training period and test are over?" Mitsuru inquired.

"I'm her mother. A mother would never allow her child walk a road only filled with peril." She declared.

"Oh. So you're ending this quickly because you see there are high chances of our daughter succeeding. You agreed when you thought the arrangement was in your favor.  Now that you see how hard Akira is working -not even before a month is out- you wish to put an end to it, because there is a high probability that you will be on the losing end."

"Mitsuru." Haruka glowered at her husband. "I do not care. Even if Akira comes to hate me because of this, it's better than her dying on a mission."

"Why are you only thinking about death and death, Ruka?" He asked. "I am close friends with many ninjas. And they have confirmed that some ninjas, once they had gone into old age had retired and died peacefully."

"That's if they could make it." The blonde muttered, "or they lost a limb and decided to retire."

"This world is filled with ninjas who survive even the most dangerous of missions."

"And they were born into it! Your and my family has no ninja bloodline whatsoever within us." Haruka chided. "Your ancestor used to be a blacksmith and my ancestor used to be a monk!"

"Do you actually think that everyone of those so call clans who are top ninja clans today started off as being ninjas?"  He sharply narrowed his eyes. "And not everyone who is ninja was born into it."

Haruka Nadai, she couldn't retort.

••••

Her door quietly opened and she heard footsteps. Her eyes still closed, Akira decided to not bother and allowed Haruka to do what she desired. Really that father of her's was too perceptive.

Then she felt herself being lifted in her mother's warm embrace. Not too long after that, Haruka exited the Nadai Manor with her sleeping child in her arms and into a carriage.

As the journey on the streets of Konoha continued, Akira recalled the scene from when Mitsuru Nadai had put her to bed.

"Aki. You say you want to become a ninja and I will support you in your goal if you pass the requirements, I set for you." He slid a fairy tail book from off it's shelf, "but you cannot become a ninja if you don't convince your mommy."

Akira knew that out of her parents before she had said she desired to become a shinobi, that her mother would be most opposed to it and her father would agree as long showed she was serious about becoming one with such a dangerous occupation.

Mitsuru opened the book, "you know your mommy has a weak body as well. Please, do not get angry with her Akira. It's because you're the only child she could have. There were many times when you were in your mommy's stomach, she almost lost you because her body cannot bare the development and baring of a baby. So that is why she is extremely protective of you." His violet eyes contained masses of warmth, "you should've have seen her when she was holding you when you were first born, Aki. She didn't even sleep the entire night, just gazing at you. Her eyes were all red in the morning." He chuckled. "Your mommy will most likely come to your room tonight and take you with her to your grandad. Let her do this and use an opportunity you see fit to convince her. Consider this as one of your pre-missions before you become a ninja."

And the carriage stopped in front of Kondo's Temple. Stepping outside the carriage Haruka was greeted by the stern look of her father, Yuma Kondo with his arms folded.

"Really Ruka, how old do you think you are to be sneaking out of your husband's house late in the night? Don't you know how dangerous it is, you foolish daughter? Plus, you had to get my precious granddaughter involved." He castigated. "Now hurry and bring her along to get you two out of this cold and into some warmth. I'll prepare your favorite tea for you as you tell me the reason as to your departure."

"Sorry and thank you, dad."

After setting Akira into her futon bed of her old room, tucking her in and placing a kiss on her head, Haruka went to where her father was waiting for her. She took a seat down in front of him.

Finished brewing the tea, he poured her a cup.

Taking it, Haruka looked into the cup filled with a hot green liquid as steam billowed from it. She took a sip then began, "Aki wants to become a ninja."

All of Yuma's actions abruptly paused.

"We made a deal that if Aki completes three-four months of training under a shinobi and pass his test, then Mitsuru and I will let her attend the Academy and become a shinobi. And two weeks has passed from since we had made the arrangement. Aki who didn't like long walks are walking to and from the mansion with the maids when they go to purchase items for the household. I had asked them if Aki ever asked them to lift her up during these walks but they all replied no. Plus, Aki who's body isn't suited for harsh training somewhat similar to mines, she is exercising four out of seven days of the week, constantly." The hand which she was holding the tea shuddered, "She is improving too quickly. I know that even a month has not went by yet-"

"-You feel, that she will succeed." Yuma stated, completing his daughter's sentence.

Haruka weakly nodded her head.

"Ruka, there is something I have been keeping from you from since I saw little Aki in your arms. From the instant I saw her I knew she was born to be a shinobi. A powerful one at that." The monk divulged. "I've told Mitsuru this."

"One of those visions you say your always seeing, dad don't joke with me!"

"Ruka, this is different from all those times. And I'm sure the reason why you wanted to call the deal off so quickly even when a month hasn't went by was because you can sense it too! The soul within your daughter's body, my granddaughter's body is the soul of a shinobi!"

The cup Haruka was holding collided against the wooden floor, shattering. Tea was spilt about the ground. "....just because she has the soul of a shinobi doesn't means she could become one." She softly muttered.

"Ruka in Akira's previous life, she was also a shinobi. One who possessed the Will of Fire and had the power to protect Konoha, that of an Hokage."

••••

This wasn't the first time that Akira had been to the temple her grandfather ran, but this was her first time within this room.

This room which had a beautiful portrait of Hikari Senju.

"Why is this here?" She pondered.

Then the girl felt the presence of her grandfather entering the room. "That's there because my father, your great grandfather painted it."

"Why?"

"It's because, he was rescued and brought to Konoha by Lady Hikari." Yuma answered.

'I saved a monk in my past life who became my great grandfather in this life.' She immediately recalled someone who had fitted the description. A monk who had been obsessed with capturing her so call power and beauty as he had said it. 'So that monk's family name was Kondo.' Akira glanced at her grandfather. He didn't resemble his father one bit, probably took after his mother. 'But fate surely is strange to be the great granddaughter of a person I saved.' Her line of sight was drawn back to the portrait.

"Father had always wanted to show Lady Hikari her portrait and get her opinion of it, but alas he couldn't." He placed his hands on his grandchild's shoulders and queried, "so do you like it, Lady Hikari?"
