Chapter 28 - Enemy of a kingdom

I opened my eyes but I wasn't in the inn anymore instead I was on a floating piece of land. I quickly got up and looked around but all around me I only saw darkness. Suddenly a light blinded me causing me to cover my eyes, and when I opened my eyes once more I saw a battlefield. However the two armies weren't humans, one was an army of apes.

And the other one was an army of unknown monsters.

The ape in front raised his spear and began to beat his chest in a rhythm. The others began to beat their chests as well, gradually increasing speed until all you could hear were the sounds of thousands of gorillas giving a warning. The opposing army beat war drums before roaring and charging toward the apes. The apes stopped beating their chests and instead charged, as well as letting out their own war cry. But when they met in the middle the same light blinded me.

And this time I was outside a jungle with a giant trees in the center. Wait that tree... it's the same one I saw a few days ago.

But why am I dreaming about this? Not a second later the light appeared again and I was closer to the giant trees and it showed, a troop of apes hunting?

Those aren't apes but if this dream I'm having is real I could find and make contact with them. As they were hunting, something huge roared gaining their attention. But just before anything happened the light once again appeared and blinded me.

This is getting annoying, regardless I opened my eyes and saw I was sitting in a nest on a giant tree. The view is nice but why am I here? After a moment a silhouette appeared leaning their head on my right shoulder. The silhouette appeared to be of a female ape but I couldn't see her face. She turned to me before placing her hands on my cheeks and began to slowly lean in before whispering.

???: Wake up my love.

______________Dream end_______________

I woke up again but this time I was in the room at the inn. That was a strange dream but I shouldn't dwell on that, for now I'm hungry. Wystan is still asleep so I should leave him alone for awhile. I got up and activated Gorilla armor before moving the bed frames back in place. I placed the pillows and bedsheets back on the bed before attaching my minigun on my back, and quietly opening the door making my way downstairs.

Just like before the wood on the floor and stairs creaked and groaned under my huge weight before I finally made it to the ground floor. Not that many people were here like last time, guess they left or passed out in some corner. I approached the innkeeper and asked for my meal.

Devan: Excuse me, sir. I'd like my breakfast now please.

Innkeeper: Alright just sit down at one of the tables, I'll bring it over when it's done cooking.

I nodded before going over to one of the tables and try to sit in one of the seats only for it to break under me. I quickly got up and brushed the pieces of the now broken chair under a nearby rug with my foot. No one seemed to notice and if they did they didn't seem to care. I just sat on the floor not wanting to break another chair under my overwhelming power. I wonder what those dreams meant? If they were real then that means a war will happen in the future with apes and someone else. Those weren't apes in the second bright light, I think they were chimpanzees?

But how did they learn to use weapons and make face paint? And then there was that silhouette, who was that ape? Before I could think to much into it the innkeeper placed my breakfast in front of me.

Innkeeper: There you are a large plate of fish, cheese, meat, some bread and a cup of ale for ya.

Devan: Thank you.

I gave the innkeeper a silver coin for bringing me my food as he nodded at me before going back to running the bar. I just slightly lifted my helmet allowing me too slide all the food in my mouth, and wash it all down with the cup of ale. It was tasty but I'm still hungry, I guess I better find something else to eat. As I was about to get up I felt something hug my foot and when I looked down I saw a teary eyed Wystan. I quickly but carefully lifted Wystan up and placed him next to my helmet before making sure he was alright.

Devan: Wystan, what's the matter are you hurt?

Wystan: I-I-I thought you left and abandoned me here.

So that's why he looked like he was about to cry, he thought I'd just leave him. I moved my helmet up slight letting him hug my face.

Devan: I would never abandon you you're apart of my family.

Wystan: I should've never doubted you, master! But why were you here?

Devan: I got hungry and since I'm a silverback now I eat 3x as much as I used too.

Wystan nodded giving my face one last hug before going towards the back to hide. I got up and made my way outside only to be blasted in the eyes by the bright rays of the sun. The light entering inside the inn was dimmed down greatly by the windows. Once my eyes readjusted I went into an alleyway before activating Invisibility, and climbing up to the roofs once more. I should ask Arlin's parents if they have any books about this world.

I jumped from roof to roof all the way back to the noble district slightly breaking the roofs each time I land. Those chimpanzees seemed to have some intelligence so I could possibly speak to them, but in my old world apes and chimps rarely interacted with each other in the wild. If I do meet them that could either start a war or be the beginning of a beautiful friendship. After a moment I finally arrived in the noble district, I proceeded to enter an alleyway before deactivating Invisibility.

I hope they're not still asleep, it's 8:45 so they could potentially be awake. I made my way to their shop carefully opening the door, but I forgot there was a bell as it rang making a loud noise. I entered and closed the door before carefully going over to the stairs. If they weren't awake before they're about to be. I walked up the stairs once again causing the poor wood to creak and groan each time I placed my foot down.

Devan: Wystan can you go wake them up while I explore their home please?

Wystan: Right away! But why are you going to explore their home?

Devan: Why to liberate them of any unnecessary items of course.

While Wystan went to check on the Coyles I went down the hall searching for anything to liberate. After a while I found the kitchen and I must say it looked nice.

I went over to a nearby cupboard and began to find anything edible I can store in my stomach. There were some spices, salt, and some herbs, I guess they store condiments and seasoning in this one. I moved on to the next one to find 5 gold coins which I swiftly placed in my inventory. I then found some meat and fish in another cupboard, before I snacked on a a few fish and one piece of meat. This finally satisfied my huge stomach as I began to exit the kitchen to explore elsewhere. But before I could explore further Arlin's parents came out their room.

Mathias: I had the strangest dream last night, I thought a gaint man entered our store with Arlin strapped to his back.

Nira: That's exactly what happend in my dream too. I kind of wi-*scream*

She cut herself off as she saw me just standing there staring at them. The man I believe to be Mathias got in front of his wife, and went to draw his sword only to draw the broken handle.

Mathias: What the?

Devan: I snapped your sword when you threatened me remember?

Mathias: Shut it! Honey wake the kids up!

She nodded before stomping her foot causing waves of blue to shoot out into all the rooms I passed. Not a moment later several people came out weapons drawn and spells ready. They had some features of Mathias and Nira, so they had 5 sons including Arlin.

???: Who is that?!

???: I don't know but let's gut him!

Two charged at me while the other two casted a spell on their brothers. The spell seemed to have increased their speed and defense as a green glow radiated from them. I didn't want to kill or hurt Arlin's family so I just grabbed the two charging brothers before gently shoving them.

Even though I greatly held back my strength the push still caused them to fall back into their two other brothers. As they were about to get up and attack once more, Arlin came out his room with Wystan on his head yelling for them to stop.

Arlin: S-stop guys just go back to sleep!

They didn't seem to hear him as this time all the brothers charged at me. I just grabbed their faces in my hands before lifting them up. Since my hands were giant I could hold two in each hand without them escaping my hold.

Arlin: D-Devan please dont hurt them they're just idiots.

I complied and tossed them next to their parents before Arlin got between us to prevent his family's death.

Mathias: Arlin get over here we dont know this stranger.

Devan: But I introduced myself yesterday right before I broke your sword.

Mathias: Quiet! Honey, kids, go get the guards!

Before they could leave I moved between them and the stairs.

Devan: There is no need for the guards I just came to make sure Arlin was alright, I'll take my leave now.

Arlin: W-wait Devan!

He ran over between me and his entire family before turning to them.

Arlin: He's no stranger he saved my life countless times and made sure I got here unharmed! He even fought several bandits himself to make sure I was safe! So please stop trying to kill him without letting him explain himself!

His entire family was shocked while I just stood there awkwardly and Wystan was playing with Arlin's hair. It was silent until Arlin's father sighed.

Mathias: Alright, so who are you and what do you want?

Devan: I'm Devan I took your son here all the way from The Father Tree. And what i want is information.

Mathias: Information on what?

Devan: This world, the kingdoms, land, creatures, and gods.

Mathias: Alright follow me. Once you have what you need leave.

He began to lead me back downstairs as Wystan jumped from Arlin's head to my armor before climbing up. Mathias went behind the counter before shortly coming back with a giant book.

Mathias: Here this contains information of all the kingdoms, creatures, myths, legends, and stories of just about everything.

I skimmed through about half stopping on a random page.

Oh there's a little note here, it says

La Mano Peluda is said to belong to a man who was killed during the inquisition, and chopped up and buried in an old Indian cemetery. His hand is said to have come back to life to seek revenge on his enemies while they're asleep.'

Advice: Wear socks at night!
_________________________________________

That's some good advice but I'm a gorilla, so I think I'm safe Is this thing even real?

S.Y.S.T.E.M: The tales and stories of your old world become reality in this one. Creatures between A Bao A Qu and Noppera-bō are real in this world.

Devan: Will I have to fight some of them?

S.Y.S.T.E.M: Soon, very very soon.

Devan: I don't like how you said that.

I was pulled from my thoughts by Arlin's father.

Mathias: Did you not hear me? I said pay for the book.

Devan: Oh pardon me I was deep in thought how much is it?

Mathias: It's 40 gold pieces.

Damn I don't think I have that much but I should still check. As I grabbed my pouch I didn't notice Mathias giving me a strange look.

Mathias: Pardon me but could you remove your helmet please?

Why would he want me to remove my helmet?

Devan: I'm sorry? But why would you like me to remove my helmet?

Mathias: It was written on the sign above the door, you must remove your helmet before purchasing anything.

Ok let's hope he's as dumb as the gate guards. I slowly pulled off my helmet letting him see my face. When I looked back at him his face was full of shock before he calmly walked behind the counter and pulled something. I could faintly hear something explode in the distance.

Mathias: You know sir keep the book.

Devan: Really?

This was strange he's being sickly nice with that forced smile.

Mathias: Yes yes now please leave consider the book a thank you gift for rescuing my son.

Alright this is weird so I'm leaving, I placed the book in my inventory before going over to the door.

S.Y.S.T.E.M: User if you could prepare for combat.

Devan: Why?

S.Y.S.T.E.M: Trust me user. You're about to leave a very fine impression on this city.

I equipped my minigun in one hand and the other I used to open the door. Only to be met with the sight of a lot of guards shields up with spears over the top surrounding the entrance. Crossbowmen and archers lined the roofs of the houses nearby with all arrows trained on me. A large man came forward wearing heavy armor and carrying a great sword.

???: On your knees now beast, or you'll be executed here and now!

Devan: How do you know I'm not human?

???: One of our great citizens triggered the explosion calling my men here. Now get on your knees or be killed!

Devan: No thank you I would like to live.

Oloikith relationship -100
You're now an enemy of the kingdom of Oloikith. Since you dont have a kingdom, you will only be killed on sight by any Oloikith civilization.

I'm now at war with an entire kingdom great. Not only was I going to go to war with the gods but now I'm at war with a kingdom. Well I might as well get out of here while I still can.

???: You beasts are nothing but idiotic animals, kill him.

The ranged units released their arrows sending at least 100 arrows toward my impenetrable armor. Just like with the bandits all the arrows broke on contact with my armor. They were all shocked before the armoured man, who I believe is the commander, yelled out for the guards to attack. As they got close I lifted my machine gun and proceeded to mow through all of them. Evey guard was now torn to shreds along with what remains of the commander, the ranged units were shocked and disoriented due to the loud noise of the minigun. Taking this chance I aimed my minigun at the archers before mowing through them as well.

Every soldier was now dead and no civilian casualties. I proceeded to climb the roofs and jump toward the nearest wall, not wanting to go out the front gate. Hopefully Arlin will be alright I don't want him to be seen as an accomplice so I left him there. At least I got the information about this world so that's a plus. I finally made it to the wall before digging my fingers into the stone and with my natural climbing ability begin to climb. In a few seconds I was at the top before I turned back to the city, as I stood on my feet I loudly beat my chest accepting their declaration of war.

I'll be back one day when I have an army of my own but for now onwards to the Great Jungle of the East!

(Next chapter the troop will form)
