Chapter 27 - Arlin's parents

Devan: I would be glad to accompany you.

Arlin: Really?! I-I mean thanks I thought you would leave me.

Devan: We're a team and we stick together.

Wystan: And me dont forget me!

Arlin:*giggle* How could we ever forget you?

Devan: So do you know where your parents are or have an idea where?

Arlin: N-no, that's why I wanted you to come with me I didn't want to be lost here alone.

Devan: Its alright we can be lost in this place together, follow me.

I began to walk down the street with Arlin while getting some stares from people.

Devan: Now how do we begin finding your parents?

Arlin: I-I think we should start by asking around for the Coyle merchants.

Devan: Your last name is Coyle?

Arlin: Y-yeah, all male members of my family are merchants but I didn't become one.

Devan: Why not?

Arlin: I-I get nervous whenever I talk to p-people so that makes it h-hard when I have to say what I'm s-selling.

We made a left and went down a street that had merchants but what got my attention were the men leaning on a wall in a alleyway. They looked intently at everybody's pockets who passed by and when they looked at me they were shocked before quickly composing themselves. Guess everyone here hasn't seen someone 10 feet tall clad in huge strange armor before. Regardless the thugs whispered among themself glancing at me and Arlin every now and then. They have to be stupid if they think they can mug us.

I slightly pushed Alrin away from any alleyways we come close to on our way to the merchants. Arlin gave me a confused look each time I did but he always shrugged it off. We finally made it to the merchant stalls who had food, jewels, clothes, and other things for sell. I went up to the nearest merchant and asked if he knew Arlins parents. The merchant was working placing some meat around with some salt on top.

Devan: Excuse me sir but do you know any merchants with the name Coyle?

Merchant: Who wants to know?

He didn't turn around but he stopped salting the meats on display.

Devan: I do? That's why I'm asking.

Merchant: So your a smartass huh? Get out of here bef-

He cut himself off when he turned around and saw how much bigger than him I was. I crouched down to his height and used my Intimidation skill.

Devan: Before what? Would you like to finish that sentence?

He began to shake but still maintained eye contact, which I dont know why but it was making me slightly angry. I guess I'm getting the instincts of a silverback not wanting to be looked in the eyes. Before things could possibly escalate Arlin placed a hand on my chest trying to get me to calm down, while he spoke to the merchant.

Arlin: I-I want to know s-sir, they're my parents.

He seemed to regain his composure as he broke eye contact with me, calming me slightly.

Merchant: Oh your their lad? Strange the Coyles are usually upfront and never stutter.

This made Arlin look down sad so I did what any giant and protective friend would do. I gently moved Arlin to the side away from what I'm about to do to this man. I looked back at the merchant who began to shake again under my gaze and slowly back up. But before could get away I grabbed his arm and neck bringing him close to my face.

Devan: Now, now, there's no need to make my friend sad with your voice. He asked you a question and you're going to answer him, or I'll make sure you never sadden him with your voice again.

For emphasis I applied a little bit of pressure on his neck before dropping him back behind the counter. Even when I only applied a small amount of force he coughed badly for a while. When he was finally able to breathe properly again his voice was now hoarse.

Merchant:*cough* They run a shop up in the noble district. Just keep going down this street make a left and then a right.

He's being surprisingly compliant ...too compliant. I just choked him and threatened his life yet he's still telling us where to go.

Arlin: T-thank you s-sir.

Arlin grabbed my hand and tried to pull me away in the direction the merchant said, but since we both knew he couldn't pull me I just walked with him holding my hand.

Arlin: W-why did you do that?

Devan: He made you sad and as a silverback it's my job to protect and comfort members of my troop.

Arlin: I-I appreciate it really I do. But he could've yelled for the g-guards and then you would've been a-arrested. R-regardless let's just go the way he told us my p-parents shop is.

He trusts people way too easily, any sensible person would've yelled for the guards. I have a bad feeling about where we're going but this is the only lead we have. We made it to the end of the street market where we then made a left. As we were moving down the street I noticed the homes were a little more rundown and little to no guards. After a while I felt someone following us make, that two nope, now its three. This isn't going to go well is it?

We made it to the end of this road so we made the final right only to be met with some rundown homes and a lot more people.

It was a dead end and these guys seem to have been waiting for us. Some had hoods on and others were wearing all black. Arlin moved closer to me slightly shaking as some people came up behind us.

???: Hey now look lads we have some new pockets to pick.

???: Look at the big fella's armor he's got to have some money on him.

???: What about the lil lady?

Arlin turned red at this in anger.

Arlin: I-I am a m-man!

The bandits just laughed at this and some even took out their daggers.

???: I'm sorry you're just so small compared to the giant next to you and you're voice is as high as a puppy's.

???: Don't worry we won't kill you at least not yet. But we're definitely killing the big one, Joseph grab the little one.

One of them came close and reached out to grab Arlin, but before he could I grabbed his arm and broke it before chucking him into a building. The bandits were shocked before their shock was replaced by rage.

???: Screw it kill the big one slowly!

I can easily take them all on but not with Arlin here. I gently grabbed Arlin before jumping onto one of the buildings making a few dents in the house. I placed down Arlin before grabbing the minigun off my back.

Devan: Stay here this will be over soon.

Arlin: A-alright but please be careful.

I nodded before jumping off the roof crushing one of the bandits when I landed. I aimed my minigun before firing it for the first time.

*Brrrrttttt*

The bullets shredded through them like paper and into more that were behind them. But some of the bullets missed and shredded the walls of some of the buildings as well.

???: What is that thing?!

???: Shit! Fill him with arrows!

???:*Whistle*

Several bandits with bows and crossbows appeared on the roofs of the surrounding buildings. They fired but when the arrows made contact with my armor they shattered. Well that proves it I'm immortal in this armor, or at least immune too arrows. Two tried to jump down on me from the roofs but I aimed the minigun up and riddled them full of bullets practically disintegrating then. There was a little glowing button next to the handle and when I pressed it a notification appeared.

Sentry mode: Activated

Three legs appeared holding the minigun up as a laser sight appeared, the barrel split into three and revved up. I grabbed the handle and began to shoot the bandits on top of the roofs much quicker and more accurate. When I finished shooting it began to rain blood and some limbs. One of the bandits jumped on my back and raised his dagger, but before he could bring it down a small stone spike pierced his skull making his body fall limp.

And who else could do that except the now adorable rock sized Wystan.

Wystan: Dont worry master I'll keep your back safe!

Devan: Thank you Wystan.

!Level up!
10

I leveled up again sweet, I then noticed there were no more bandits just puddles of blood and bits of limbs scattered the ground. I pressed the button again and the legs retracted as the barrels connected once more. That was about the most fun I had in a long time just watching their blood fly up as 7.62×51mm bullets cut through them. Speaking of which I didn't see any shells fall out the gun, do I have infinite ammo?

S.Y.S.T.E.M: Yes you do. It is after all the legendary weapon of the warrior apes before you.

Perfect! Now I have to go make sure Arlin is okay. I placed my minigun back on my back and jumped back to the roof I put Arlin on.

Devan: Arlin I finished ki-

I cut myself off seeing no one here. Damn one of the ones on the roofs must've gotten to him! What do I do?! I shouldn't have left him by himself! I sh- wait whats that smell... it smells like... Arlin!

I began to smell the air for Arlins scent trying to find his trail. Until I found the direction it was in, the smell was coming from down below. I jumped down the roof as I began to run following his scent.

Arlin: P-please let me go!

???: No! Your walking giant killed my brothers they were my only family!

The bandit was pulling Arlin by his hair with a knife to his neck, so I cant get close without him killing Arlin. I climbed to the roof of the buildings above them and began to follow them.

Arlin: W-what d-do you w-want?

???: Well since my family and the only way I made money are all gone I have to make money again somehow, and your going to help me.

Arlin seemed to begin shaking more furiously now.

Arlin: H-how?

The man took Arlin into an alleyway before slamming him into the wall, his head was now slightly bleeding. For some reason a small bit of rage began to build up inside me. I began to climb down the roof surprisingly quiet and I began to slowly walk on my knuckles toward them.

???: Well slaves sell a lot in the noble markets, so all I have to do is stitch some dog's ears on your head and it's tail on you.

Arlin's eyes then began to water as the thug brandished his knife near Arlins face. I was now behind him and I took my helmet off before dropping it. The sound caused him to turn around and when he did I grabbed the arm that held his blade.

Devan: You know when ever I finish a battle I always execute an enemy. And your the last one alive so you can have that honor.

I then lifted him close to my face before biting deep into his arm crushing his bones. He screamed out in pain yelling for me to stop as I pulled ripping his arm off. I learned from last time to not waste time so I placed my hand on his wound and applied pressure cutting off all blood flow.

Devan: Normally my kind kill quickly but I like to play with my enemies.

I then bit into his remaining arm before ripping it off as well. He continued to scream and it was starting to annoy me, so I placed my hand on his jaw before tearing it off along with his tounge. This effectively killed him and when he dropped I got a notification.

!New Title!
The Executioner
This title allows the user to gain the ability of any creature he executes

New ability:
Invisibility

I'm the Executioner now huh? And that's how he passed me and got Arlin and now I'm a giant gorilla that can turn invisible. I then felt something hug my left arm, as I looked down it was a shaking crying Arlin.

Arlin: *sob* T-thanks for saving me. I-I dont know *sob* what would've h-happened if you didn't show up *sob*.

He's right if I wasn't here with him he would've been robbed, killed, or sold in a slave market. As a way to comfort him I gently hugged him before cradling and rocking him as he quietly cried. After a moment I started to hear soft snoring and feel Arlin's body go limp. Well might as well let him sleep while I somehow look for his parents.

Wystan: Master you dropped me!

Devan: Sorry Wystan I wanted the thug too see my face as I executed him.

Wystan: I forgive you. I might not feel physical pain but I can feel emotional pain.

I held Arlin with one hand while I placed my helmet back on with my free one. I made sure my grip was tight on Arlin before I climbed to the roofs again. So that merchant was in business with those thugs so I might pay him a visit, probably after I find Arlin's parents. The only info I have was that merchant saying his parent's shop was in the noble district.

I got back on my legs before jumping from roof to roof making my way to the noble district. I wonder what we should do when we meet them, will Arlin want to stay with his parents or continue following me and Wystan? But I still need to find information of this world, there's probably a book in the noble district. I made sure to use Invisibility so nobody could see me jump from roof to roof, but they could still here the roofs creak under my weight.

After jumping for a while we made it to the noble district, It was much cleaner and had a air of sophistication to it. I continued to move by rooftop before I found the town square.

There weren't just merchants here, there were also blacksmiths, a guild hall, shops, and very nice looking homes. I jumped down into an alleyway before deactivating Invisibility and walking out with Arlin strapped to my back.

Who do I ask for directions to the Coyle's shop? I guess I can ask anyone here they seem like nice people. Oh here comes somebody with a nice looking cane.

Devan: Exuse me s-

???: Away from me peasant.

Nevermind these rich people aren't nicer than the thugs, he didn't even glance at me.

Wystan: Perhaps you should try speaking with that lady over there she seems nice.

He pointed over to a well dressed lady browsing some items from the store window. I made my way over to her making sure I at least looked nice.

Devan: Excuse me mam?

???: Yes what can I do- oh pardon me I didn't expect you to be so tall, sir.

Devan: Its no problem mam I've been getting stares all day from other people.

???: Well I've never seen you before not even in the commoners district. What can I do for you?

Devan: I just arrived here and I was wondering if you knew any family here with the surname Coyle?

???: Indeed I do, their shop is actually across from us right there.

She gestured over to a shop with a sign hanging above the door that said 'ᚥᛂᛆᛕᚮᛀᛋ᛫ᛋᛱᚱᚮᛚᛚᛋ᛫ᛆᛀᛑ᛫ᛘᚮᚱᛂ'. I really have to learn this worlds alphabet if I want to navigate this place easier.

Devan: Thank you mam I'll stop pestering you now.

I slightly bowed causing her to giggle and say a goodbye before I walked toward the shop. Wait how do I explain their son asleep and strapped to a stranger's back? This is going to be awkward but might as well get this over quick, like ripping off a bandaid. I had to crouch down as I opened and entered through the door causing a bell to ring. I have to say the inside wasn't so bad.

There were some weapons, shields and armor on display along with a few scrolls behind the counter. There was also a staircase leading up into the second floor, I didn't get to look long as I heard two people enter and gasp. I turned around to see a man with a sword strapped to his waist and a lady carrying a book, both looking shocked.

???: Who are you?!

Devan: I'm-

???: Honey look is that Arlin?!

Devan: Ye-

The man then draws his sword and points it at me. While the lady snapped her fingers summoning a flame above her hand.

???: What did you do to our son?!

Devan: Plea-

???: Answer us!

Devan: JUST SHUT UP!!

My voice rattled the entire shop causing who I assume to be Arlins parents to fall. I've never gotten this angry to the point I yelled at someone.

Devan: Now, I'm Devan Arlin's friend, I assume your his parents, he fell asleep after an incident and I carried him here. If you would be so kind as to introduce yourselves that would be appreciated.

The man slowly rised and helped the lady up before putting her behind him.

Mathias: I'm Mathias Coyle and this is my wife Nira Coyle, what happened to our son.

He said the last part with some hate and a glare like I was the one who hurt Arlin. He was still staring into my eyes with a glare and for some reason it was starting to anger me. Under my helmet I was slightly opening my mouth revealing my sharp teeth, as I slowly rised and made my hands into fists. Seeing this Arlins parents backed up slightly but Mathias was still looking me in the eyes. I was about to pound my chest but before I could Arlin whispered in my ear. I guess my yell woke him up and probably anyone else who was sleeping in a 10 mile radius.

Arlin: Devan please dont hurt my parents I know your kind doesn't like eye contact but they dont know, please calm down.

I now know how gorillas feel when stared in the eyes by anyone that isn't in their troop. Regardless I took a deep breath trying to calm down, before helping Arlin off my back so he could speak with his parents. When he was back on the ground his father pulled him next to his wife and raised his sword at me once more. I was fed up with this guy trying to intimidate me, so I grabbed his sword and snapped it in half like a toothpick before handing it back to him.

Arlin: Uh m-mom, d-dad? T-this is my f-friend Devan he's protected me f-from everything. If it wasn't for him I would've been sacrificed to c-cultists of Ἔρεβος, k-killed by thugs, m-mosquito men, a c-centipede, a t-tiger, t-tree guardians, and his f-father.

Arlin's parents looked at him shocked at what he told them before they engulfed him in a hug. After a few minutes I awkwardly coughed not knowing what to do. Should I leave, should I join in on the hug, or should I stay quiet?...Might as well make it more awkward and join in.

I wrapped my huge arms around them before bringing them to my chest trying not to break their fragile spines.

Wystan: Save some hugs for poor little Wystan!

Not wanting to be left out of the giant group hug Wystan jumped onto Arlin's head hugging his hair. They seemed uncomfortable I think because of the armor, so I deactivated Gorilla armor letting them feel my soft fur. And when they did their eyes began to slowly close until they were all asleep. Is my fur really that comfortable that it puts anyone to sleep?
....
.......
...........

What do I do? They're all asleep and I have no idea what to do with them. I guess I could just put them in their beds, if they live here. I made my way up the stairs before I heard one of the stairs creak loudly almost breaking. Sometimes I forget I'm 1000lbs+ of gorilla meat and no longer human. Regardless I quickly made my way up the stairs not wanting to break them further, but when I look back I can see them bent down slightly. I'll fix that later...probably, I made it to the first door before trying to turn the handle without breaking it. While i was trying to do this i heard snoring coming from the other rooms nearby. Seeing me struggle Wystan jumped off Arlin's head onto the handle turning it.

Wystan: The door is open!

Devan: Thank you Wystan, I have no idea what I'll do without you.

I poked my head inside to see a very nice bedroom.

Oooh a chest Arlin's parents won't mind if I take a few things right? No, no, no, I can't rob my only human friend not now at least. I think this is Arlin's parents room so I grabbed them both in one hand before gently placing them on the bed. Wystan then came over and threw a spare blanket on top of them. I made my way to the second door while Wystan pulled the parents door shut. I managed to open the door this time with only minimal struggle.

Not bad Arlin's parents must be rich to afford these nice looking bedrooms, and I have yet to explore the rest of his house. Wystan went inside before climbing onto the bed removing the blanket. I gently placed Arlin into the bed where Wystan then placed the blanket back on Arlin. It is almost time for me to sleep too so I have to find somewhere I can fit. I went back down the stairs while Wystan jumped and landed on my neck, before grabbing onto my fur so he didn't fall off.

I reactivated Gorilla armor before walking out of the store and into the now less crowded town square. Now where do I go to sleep? There aren't any trees or vegetation nearby for me to make my nest so it looks like we're going to an inn. I looked at my map and saw a few symbols one looked like a anvil, another two crossed swords, and one that looked like a cup. The cup is probably where I can find an inn if not it's a bar and I don't know if I can get drunk.

S.Y.S.T.E.M: Fortunately or unfortunately user you can't get drunk.

That answers that question but for now onwards toward the possible inn or bar. I got in a alleyway before activating Invisibility and climbing the roofs once more. I dont know why people dont this more often its really fun. I'll probably check on Arlin in the morning or go and find some information about this world while he spends time with his parents. I finally made it to the cup sign and from what I can tell it's a inn and a bar. I deactivated Invisibility and dropped down in front of the entrance causing some things to shake, before I walked in through the doors.

There were a lot of drunk people some just talking and some whispering among themselves. I walked up to the innkeeper as he was cleaning a cup.

Devan: Excuse me sir how much for one of your rooms?

Innkeeper: Its onl-

When he looked up from cleaning the cup he was shocked by my size.

Innkeeper: Bloody hell your a big fella, anyway its 3 silver for a night and 2 coppers for a meal, your room is number 9.

Devan: Can I have the meal in the morning?

Innkeeper: Sure.

I nodded and handed over 3 silver and 2 coppers before making my way up the stairs to get to room 9. But just like last time the wood creaked under my weight as I continued up. I made it to room 9 before Wystan jumped and turned the handle for me.

Devan: Thank you Wystan.

Wystan: No problem master.

It's a little small but I think that's because of my size, Wystan ran and climbed onto the windowsill before changing into a rock so he could sleep. I took the covers, pillows, and mattresses off the bed frames making a nest out of them. It's not the best but it'll probably be comfortable and warm. I deactivated Gorilla armor and placed my katana next to the window.

With that I moved the bed frames in front of the door so no one can come in and see I'm not human. If they did then I would have to commit murder which I'm very willing to do. I layed down on my nest using my arm as a pillow.

And now it's time for me to escape reality and dream....
