Chapter TWENTY SEVEN
Harin woke to the smell of burning, eyes snapping open.
He coughed on the smoke, it was thick. And heavy.
His body felt heavy too, but he could get up.
He was at the OneWe camp, the sun had finally gone down.
The ground was illuminated by the fire on the trees.
It was spreading quickly. He had to get out of here.
He shifted into his form and ran out of the camp, past the burning trees and along the same path that brought him here.
His fur was tinged by the fire scraping against him. It was everywhere- god, the reservoir was down the mountain.
He needed to get to the path before it started to crumble.
Paws pounded against the ground, the ground trembled underneath him.
The smell of smoke slowly started to weaken, and he neared the waterfall.
Noticing the path, he started to head down it when he saw a trail of dried blood.
Taking a sniff, he made it out to be Kanghyun's blood.
His nerves spiked, and if anything, that just boosted his adrenaline.
He didn't have much time, god knows where they were? Did they leave Kanghyun and run to the reservoir before the place collapsed?
No.. the 3 weren't like that. He recalled Yonghoon saying something, something along the lines of "I'd rather kill myself before I'd let any one of you get hurt!"
Deltas were stubborn creatures.. and with Yonghoon's attitude, he knew he dragged the other 2 to find Kanghyun.
That made his chest swell up with pride - he gave him that advice. To never give up, to never quit. He seemed to follow it well.
Padding down the mountain carefully, he yelped when a part of the path crumbled.
He started rushing down, the path after him collapsing.
The path broke down completely, and he quickly jumped onto a rock, hanging off of it so he didn't fall into the flames below.
Letting out a sigh of relief, he began hoisting himself back up before taking a few steps down, getting to the ground.
The path was completely ruined, and it fell right into the water fall, polluting its clear water.
His nose finally cooperated with him, and he could pick up the 3 wolves scents- and his fathers, at that.
He followed the scents, and saw that it lead into the deeper part of the forest. Where most of the fire was at.
He saw paw prints in the ash ridden ground.
Ignoring his conscience telling him it was too dangerous, he followed what his Alpha voice said-
You need to go in there, they are in there. You need to save them. They need saving. They're relying on you!
He jumped in through the little gap, wincing when the fire burnt his side.
He ignored that again and continued on inside, sides heaving with pain.
Finally, he found some sort of arena like place.
It looked like an abandoned camp, but it didn't seem that anyone was in there.
"If you don't fucking give him back, I'll rip you to shreds!"
Harin picked up a voice and he quickly hid behind a rock, finally seeing OneWe emerge.
His father appeared on the side of the arena, on top of the walls, laughing at them, while he held a restrained Kanghyun.
"Who would've thought Burnt dog could be nice smelling?"
He pushed Kanghyun to the edge of the wall, a pit of fire awaiting him at the bottom.
He whimpered through the rope, trying to get out.
"It's over, boys! Run to the reservoir, it's not worth it. Your friend here is gonna burn to death, I've finished my use with him. So.. say a prayer before you dive, Kanghyun. Night night"
He shoved Kanghyun, and Harin leapt in finally.
He quickly dove into the fire pit and caught Kanghyun, pushing him to the side at the last second.
A pained grunt left his snout when the fire burned him, but he quickly got out, shaking off the fire.
The 4 wolves jaws fell open in shock.
"Wha- how- you're alive?!" Yonghoon exclaimed.
"Yeah, for now anyway. Get out, I need to finish something" He growled, and turned to his father.
"Mother fucker! You were supposed to die!"
His father jumped down from the wall, the earth shaking beneath him.
"Well well, I'm so insanely lucky. The universe decided to give me a second chance" Harin snickered, delighted to see his father's enraged state.
"Yeah, smile all you can! But this is the last time you're gonna be seeing me, son! I'm done with your fucking resurrections. You won't recover from this, oh no! Prepare, to face me!"
His father shivered from head to tail, suddenly growing bigger, and eyes turning red.
"Guys! Head to the reservoir! I'll meet you there! Go, go!" Harin yelled, and they nodded, and started to run the hell out of there.
Harin turned back, and readied himself.
"Finally. A worthy opponent. Come on, bring it all you got, papa!"
His father laughed.
"You've said it yourself, son! Here I come!"
His father lunged at him, but he dodged quickly, biting into his neck and biting down.
His father howled in pain, pushing him off.
He laughed like a maniac, and sheathed his claws.
"You better climb something, cause oh boy, am I about to stir up an earthquake here!"
Harin looked around and jumped onto a rock, before jumping onto the small cave like looking wall.
His father raised a paw and slammed it down, and the whole ground shook, the trees threatening to collapse.
He could barely hold on, but he held on for dear life.
"Woohoo!" His father laughed, jumping up and down, causing the earth to tremble even more.
When he stopped, Harin jumped down and attacked him again, ripping his side off, which made the other Alpha yowl.
"Aha! Damn, look at you. You better run, boy!" He giggled and swiped at Harin, managing to slice through his torso.
The wolf cried out in pain, but he got up quickly and, it seemed as if he was daring him to, to attack him.
"Go on, papa. Show me all you got. This all you can do?" He panted, seeing the gap where he came in from.
He thought up a plan quickly, and then started running when his father came after him.
Pained whines and yells rung out each time someone got hit, and the trees around them just started closing in because of the fire.
"Show me your terror, boy. Go on! Hehe, I'm so excited!" His father chuckled, and he went in to bite the other.
Harin dodged quickly and jumped onto his father, pinning him down and biting down onto his neck.
A terrifying howl sounded, and he was thrown off.
His father was weak, it looked like it. But he still kept up his crazed act.
"Hmhm, that one hurt! Ooh, I'll give you that, but now. DIE!"
Harin saw how weak he was, so he quickly dived for the escape, hearing trees fall down behind him as his father crashed through them after him.
OneWe had started heading to the reservoir, the dams gates open, when they heard a commotion behind them.
They all turned and saw Harin and his father come running.
"Holy shit, go go! Hide!" Yonghoon urged, and they all hid behind a bunch of rocks that had fallen from the earth trembling.
The two wolves came running, his father lunging at Harin and sinking his teeth into his nape.
Harin groaned in pain, ripping himself from under the canines that sunk into him.
He was in so much pain, he just wanted to drop down and die.
But the inner wolf told him to keep going.
"Drop down dead, son. Go rest! You deserve it!" His father laughed, and he suddenly caught sight of the 4 wolves hiding.
"Oh, look who we have! The little ugly ass ginger!"
His father had grabbed Yonghoon, who yelped and tried to claw at the ground to stop him from taking him.
"Look at you.. so fucking ugly. Jesus, I can't believe wolves like you exist! You're not too important to me, anyway. You're a delta.. quite useless, in terms of breeding"
He ran a claw down his stomach and Yonghoon yowled in pain.
Something clicked in the Alpha's brain.
A newfound - no, familiar - strength burst through his veins, it made his heart pump. It boosted his adrenaline.
His eyes shone gold, and he found himself bursting with newfound muscles.
He felt more steady on his feet, and with that, he raised his head and howled, before looking back at his father.
His father dropped Yonghoon and, actually, cowered a little seeing Harin's state. He recovered quickly.
"Oh, look! Finally, show me some strength, boy! I know you had it in you!" His father laughed.
The two jumped, and another battle twisted out again.
Blood spurted and clumps of fur fell to the ground.
After a couple of minutes of constant fighting, Harin's father dropped down, coughing up blood and badly bruised.
Harin mustered up all the strength in his bite force, dove for his father, and sank his teeth into his neck.
A deadly scream sounded, his father's eyes rolled up into his skull, and his whole body shook with the amount of pressure in said bite.
A second passed, and then finally. He dropped down dead, blood pooling out of his neck.
Harin panted heavily, shifting into his human form, he noticed Yonghoon, who was shaking like a leaf.
He pulled him into a hug, and started cooing to him.
"It's alright now, it's alri.."
Trailing off, he looked at his hand and saw that it turned a weird colour - before it started to... crumble?
His grip loosed on the delta, and his breathing slowed, eyes heavy.
The other 3 rushed out.
"Hyung? Hyung? Please no, stay awake for us. We're just at the reservoir! There's medics in there, they'll help you!" Yonghoon whimpered, trying to hoist the Alpha up with the help of the others.
"My.. hand.." He whispered, and his hand crumbled even more. It was like ash, finally breaking away and falling like dust.
His knees buckled, and the other 4 groaned, trying to get him up.
"Cya, Dongmyeong, get the damn medics! Hurry!" Cried Kanghyun, and the two ran to the dams gates.
"Y-Yonghoon... K-Ka-Kanghyun.." The elder mumbled, looking for them with his other hand.
"We're right here, don't worry. The medics will be here right away hyung. Please, just stay awake. We're right there" Yonghoon pleaded.
Harin took Yonghoon's hand and opened it, dropping something into it.
Yonghoon looked at the thing in his hand - it was a gemstone.
"It's.. it's my alpha stone.. take it.. keep it safe.." He whispered, closing his hand.
"What? We don't need it, you'll keep holding on to it, please Hyung. Don't give up yet!" Kanghyun whimpered through tears.
Harin fell forward, twisting onto his back and falling straight onto the ground.
Yonghoon caught him and hoisted his head onto his lap, running his hand through the blood matted hair there.
"You two.. t-thank you.. for.. m-making me feel accepted.. l-loved you both.. t-thank you.."
The two kept silent, tears streaming down their faces.
"I'm.. gonna take a rest now.." Harin mumbled, leaning back into Yonghoon's lap.
He fell limp.
Yonghoon cracked a small smile.
"Sleep well, hyung. You deserved it"
