Chapter FOURTEEN
Yonghoon sat at the entrance of the forest, tail swaying from side to side in worry.
An hour had passed since Kanghyun went to look for Harin and he couldn't help but think something awful happened.
And with that, the snow was cold. The atmosphere was too. Without heat, they could easily freeze to death. The forest is very cold since no light from the sun ever shines in.
There was also plenty of dangerous animals in there, what if they got lost?
He was getting impatient, scared whines leaving his snout as he got up, sniffing in the direction of the forest.
No scent. None.
He turned and ran back to the main den.
"Cya!" He said, panicked.
"Hey! Where are the honor- what's wrong?"
The beta could easily feel the distress radiating off of the delta, and he also realised that both Harin and Kanghyun still hadn't returned.
"They're still not back. I can't scent them out either! What if something happened to them?!"
"They are probably fine, don't worry!"
"DON'T WORRY? THEY DISAPPEARED"
"Hyung, calm down. We can just go out and see for ourselves.. I'm sure they're fine. Maybe they just got stuck in some ditch?" Dongmyeong said.
"I think it's physically impossible for Harin to get stuck in a ditch. Unless we're talking about his paw getting stuck. But Kanghyun..? It's a possibility"
"Then let's go!" Yonghoon whined, tugging on their fur to drag them out.
"Wait! Shouldn't we go in our human forms? There's less of a chance we get randomly shot by some Hunters or something. And if they ask we can just say we're out on a walk or something" Cya said and Yonghoon just nodded along frantically.
They quickly shifted and grabbed their coats, packing some food and water just incase they ended up travelling further than they thought they would.
They entered the forest, checking out practically every corner that they could possibly be found in.
Yet, no sign of them.
Suddenly they stumbled upon tyre marks and ripped ropes.
There was claw marks and paw prints scattered around that plac, droplets of dried blood and a whole puddle of blood a bit away from it, dried too.
Dongmyeong shifted and took a sniff - backing up and shifting back.
"That's Kanghyun's claw marks, the droplets of blood are his too. The puddle of blood was Harin's - there's a bullet here too. They got captured, it's pretty obvious"
Yonghoon opened his mouth to speak, but then closed it.
However, a wave of anger passed him.
"So the fucking Hunters took them?!"
"I'd say so.."
"BASTARDS. We're following the track, we need to find them"
"Yonghoon it'll take ages to follow-"
"I don't care! We're going either ways and you can't stop me!" He snapped, glaring at him.
"You want to risk going out so far with no protection at our camp whatsoever?! Have you lost your goddamn mind?" Cya said angrily.
"Fuck the camp - one of your healers was captured!"
"Yonghoon, talk with sense. If our camp gets t-"
"I'll stay"
The two looked down at Dongmyeong, who was starting to put away his bag.
"It's too dangerous to leave you all alone"
"I'll be fine. You two go. As long as someone stays, the camp will be protected"
Cya hesitated.
"Seriously, I'll be okay"
"Okay.. fine. Please be safe, fly us a letter if we're not back today"
Dongmyeong nodded and Cya pressed a light kiss to his cheek, before grabbing the spare bag he dropped and bidding him farewell, leaving on the track.
Yonghoon waved him goodbye and watched him disappear into the woods, feeling bad for leaving him.
"You're gonna pay for leaving him all alone" Cya hissed, smacking the back of his head.
"We'll be back soon, we'll just find them and get them out of there. Not that hard.."
"Yeah, we'll see about that 'not that hard' part"
They traveled through the forest, keeping an eye on the tyre marks, making sure to follow each twist and turn they took.
It was a long hour of walking, when Cya suddenly stopped.
"What's wrong?"
"It's a town full of them"
Yonghoon took a whiff of the air, wincing in disgust.
There was humans.
"The tyre marks lead all the way down this road. It goes into the town. We need to go through the town"
"Yeah.. I guess. Okay. Hoods up"
The two pulled their hoods up and headed down the road, making sure their ears were covered.
They got a few stares and whispers even though they acted like a normal duo, just chatting.
But in fact, they were uneasy around each and every one of these people.
"This shit is scary" Yonghoon whispered.
"You think? Look- the tyre marks leave the town. We have to go further.. but"
Cya looked up at the sky, focus going to the sun which was slowly lowering.
"The sun is going down. I don't think it's safe travelling at night"
Yonghoon whimpered.
"If we keep up this pace, we won't get anywhere!"
"I know, I know. Let's walk until the sun is gone"
"How about we shift to our wolves?"
Cya pondered the question.
"It's do-able. I guess we could get there quicker..-"
"Let's do it, come on"
Cya sighed as he saw him shift once they were out of the towns view, so he himself shifted aswell.
The two picked up the scent of the truck and the marks, speeding along that track again.
