Regret: Part 38 (Real)
I don't feel tired, just drained, weak. That's not exactly the same thing, trust me.
It's like, I have energy, but I can't do anything with it.
Waking myself up with a small, heartless laugh, thinking that it was probably the third time I had passed out unintentionally, I find myself in the middle of nowhere.
I'm laying down on the ground, staring up at the sky-which is white. In fact, everything is white. Nothing is here. I use my hands to push myself up from the ground, with a bit of difficulty from the numbed pain.
With a jolt I realize I'm wearing my old overalls. Haven't worn these things since...
I tug at the hem, feeling the material against my skin. And suddenly I can't tell if I'm awake or dreaming.
Am I-? No, I can't be. Right?
Am I dead?
The thought alone makes my head spin.
"Calm down Jesse," I murmur to myself, putting a hand on my forehead. "You're going to wake up any second now."
I wait a few moments, but the scene doesn't change. I try to push down the bubble of panic that's rising in my chest.
I take a step with my right foot, and then-
BOOM
Everything begins to shake. My instincts immediately react and I bring my hands over my head to protect myself, shutting my eyes shut in the process. Once the shaking stops, I open my eyes slowly and begin to process my surroundings.
Surprisingly, the scene has changed. Instead of white, everything is dark and purple. I feel my stomach lurch as memories replay like a tape in my mind.
I'm inside the Witherstorm.
It's like a giant chamber, with tentacles swinging around furiously, looking for a target. Purple beams shoot from the eyes of the heads inside, and the piles of frozen bodies are packed into the sides, still in their previous poses. I feel like I'm going to throw up.
I look around, trying to find the command block, in which I know for certain is still there. A spot it glowing brightly in the distance, and...wait, is that me?
A figure runs up to the command block, dressed in turquoise and gray armor, holding an enchanted diamond sword in her hand. Her dark hair flies around as she shouts a battle cry, running up to the block before bringing her sword down forcefully, creating a giant crack.
I watch myself (sounds weird) get thrown back after hitting it for the second time, landing on the ground with a thump.
The scene unravels before my eyes, and my fists clench at my sides as I watch my other self drop the sword down below, right before she's about to hit the command block. My heart beats loudly. I don't know if I can watch this again.
But if I hadn't dropped the damn sword-
"Reuben!" Dream Jesse shouts, body wrapped in a tentacle. "No, stop!"
Wait, I think rapidly. That's not what happened.
Reuben snorts, holding the dropped sword in his mouth, jumping as to get her approval. She shakes her head back and forth.
"No, boy! Stay, stay Reuben!" She shouts, tears forming in her eyes. I can feel some forming in my own. "Stay away!"
He whines, snorting again desperately for some way to help his friend. She screams as the tentacle swings toward the left and lets her go, sending her hurtling into the darkness that was supposed to be Reuben.
I want to say so many things, but they just won't come out.
What the hell just happened?
The scene changes, a swirling mix of colors blending into something else. I'm outside the Witherstorm, and I can see three figures nearby. Something lodges itself in my throat as I recognize Axel, Olivia, and Lukas, standing a few ways away from the Witherstorm in a patch of grass. The area is covered in darkness.
"Jesse should be out by now." Olivia says, concerned, looking at the others. "Don't you think?"
"I hope she's okay." Axel exclaims, biting his lip. "I don't know what would happen if..."
"Guys, she's gonna be fine, okay? She's Jesse, we have to believe in her." Lukas interrupts, trying to reassure everyone, but even the look on his face is twinged with a bit doubt.
The storm continues to rage, consuming blocks and structures in the area and lighting everything up with the beams of purple. A small figure races up to the trio, and a flash of pink makes him visible.
"Look, guys. It's Reuben!" Lukas shouts happily, relief in his voice. Axel and Olivia smile as well.
"Where's Jesse, boy?" Olivia asks, bending down on a knee and petting him. He recoils, the sword still in his mouth. He drops it forcefully in front of them, making awful whining noises. Then the little pig gestures towards the storm, before shaking his head.
The three of them share a look, and then another. Realization is hail that hits them from above.
Olivia's voice cracks as she covers her mouth with her hand and begins to sob, Axel wrapping his arms around her for comfort, trying not to cry.
Lukas bends down to comfort Reuben, not believing it. He pats his back ad rubs him lightly.
"No, Reuben. What happened? Where's Jesse?"
Reuben stops moving and whines again, curling up into a little ball on the ground. A tear splats down on the floor next to him, and then another, making the grass wet.
The sky is still dark, and the storm is still raging. Everyone's hope is slowly disappearing.
And then a voice speaks, or rather, everyone's together.
"Jesse's dead."
Sorry for the inactiveness! Dealing with an issue as some of you know, I believe everything is okay now :3
