Isere washed the plates as her mother kept telling her what had happened while she was away in the church.
"Isere, there is a competition coming up in the church, where the youths would be asked to recite different Bible verse, the youth that scores the highest would be awarded and prayed for," Isere mother said.
Isere shook her head, now they know she is a youth, wasn't she a child just four months ago? How come her mother is now referring to her as a youth?
It's been two days since Isere returned back home, all she's been doing was; sleep, wake up, do house chores, eat, read the Bible and stay at home either sleeping or looking at her ceiling.
She felt suffocated and irritated, it was as if she was finding it hard to breathe in here. Her mother could have helped with the situation if she had left her small phone with Her.
She wondered if a phone like that should be seized!
"Isere you will participate because I have written your name, it's for this Christmas, so after you are done with this plates, the both of us will read the Bible," her mother's told her walking out of the kitchen.
Isere stared at her mother with annoyance, she wondered how her mother's life was as teenager.
"Isere, I am going to the end of the Street to get something, I will be back in five minutes, don't leave this house or else, you will see zebra crossing on your arms," her mother spat firmly before leaving the house.
Isere saw this as an opportunity to go look for her small button phone Nokia and reply Kevin's message, she missed him so much. She missed being in his arms and how she'd watch Telemundo at his place.
She just wanted the holiday to end soon, so she could go back. She entered her parents room, she knew where they kept most items so she went straight to the her mother closet and instantly she saw the phone.
She smiled as she turned it on, her parents must have not gone through her contacts or they would have seen Kelvins and some of her male course mate names too.
Isere smiled as she saw another another message asides the one he sent two days ago; I miss your voice.
She decided to call him instead, after one ring he picked up.
"I'm surprised! Are your parents out?" Was the first thing she heard from Kelvin as soon as he picked her call.
Isere blushed when she heard his voice, the voice she craved for, "I miss you," she whispered.
She didn't know what gave her to courage to say so but she didn't regret it. "Aww, she missed me so much, how have you been?" He asked her.
"I'm in hell and need an escape, I've been indoor all day and it's killing me," she whispered.
"Have you eaten?" He asked her.
"I have and you?" She retorted.
"Can I call you back later, I think my mom is back and please don't call unless I call you," she told him before ending the call and switching off the phone, placing it back in the closet before scurrying out of the room.
"Isere!" She heard her mother shout her name.
"Ma," she replied.
"Where were you?" Her mother asked her.
"I went to borrow your King James version Bible, mine is good news," she told her mother after thinking of the perfect lie.
"You are practicing already, now you are a child of God!" Her mother smiled which she found weird.
"Where is the Bible then?" Her mother asked her.
"I dropped it down when you called for me," she told her.
"Go and bring the Bible and let us read, and also bring my glasses too," her mother told her.
Isere sighed in relief. She was angry that she had lied using the bible but that was her escape.
It been four hours since she started reading the Bible with her mother and her head began to ache, she wasn't even listening or paying attention to whatever her mother was saying. While the mother preached, she thought of Kelvin and how she would have out with him doing something else.
"And that was how God helped the people of the isrealites cross the red Sea. That is why you have to trust in the Lord and he will direct you." Her mother explained.
"So we will end today's lesson here and continue tomorrow," Her mother told her. Isere stood up and stretched her arms, she was tired already and sleepy but she wouldn't dare sleep while her mother was talking.
***********************************
"Hope you are ready to serve the Lord?" Isere mother asked her.
"Yes ma," Isere retorted
Today is on the 24th of December, the day for the 'Mr & Mrs Bible challenge'.
Isere mother had made sure to guide her in reading her Bible. Isere didn't want to participate, but does she have a choice?
"Sister Katherine," A man called Isere. Isere turned to look at the man who turned out to be one of the ushers in the church.
"Brother Daniel, Good afternoon," she greeted with a smile.
"You've grown sister Katherine, I saw you last four months ago and you looked so different, Praise thy lord for his grace on your life."
"Thank you so much brother Daniel," she replied.
Brother Daniel placed his palm on her shoulder, "How is school? Hope you have not let the boys of the world deceive you?" He asked her.
Isere was starting to get irritated already, what was their issue?! "You see sister Katherine, the lord comes first and everything is last, Boys are dangerous and sweet talkers," he began as he led her to the church auditorium.
As if you are not a boy yourself? Isere retorted in her mind.
"Let your education be your priority and desist from any form of satanic act, the lord loves you and most importantly, do not forget your body is the temple of the Lord, so keep it holy for your future husband."
Isere smirked as a devious question came into her mind, "Then how do I find my future husband if I stay away from boys?" She asked.
"The Lord will direct you my dear, There are many good people in this church and I'm sure, your parents would find the right one for you," he told her.
Isere stomach churned when she heard that, what century were they in?! She would never get married to anyone in this church, not while she was alive!
Brother Daniel was in in late twenties and always dressed like men who were over sixty, he pants were always hung high on his belly and he always worse over size shirt and coat which he thought was suit.
He had a bald hair that shone even from afar and he had always been close to her parents.
He always looked at her in some way that irritated her, she didn't like him.
"And by my parents looking for a better man? You mean to say a man like you?" She asked her.
"Uhm..I'm not saying but obvi..." She cuts him off.
She had wanted to tell him straight that she had someone else in her life but that would be like telling her parents and creating drama for herself.
"...I don't really want a man that will give me headache or dress and think like my father, I want a man God knows I like," she spat out indirectly but Brother David did not understand.
"Amen," he seconded.
Who missed Isere's mother?
Don't worry, Isere would be going back to school soon and will reunite with her boo!
More spice coming soon.
