Chapter 25 - Page 4 - Hero, Gang, War

Shling.

Mizuki appears out of nowhere, and she sighs. "Almost died, again, Tachihara. Are you a nutjob?"

"Sorry," He chuckles, his blade already out. "But I figured I'd test out the blessing I have."

"How bold of you," Mizuki sighs.

"Two of you? How amusing?" Fukuchi laughs. A blade appears out of nowhere, and Mizuki spins Tachihara out of the way again. "I never thought you'd betray us for the ADA."

"Cute, isn't it?" Mizuki hums.

"You know," Tachihara hums. "Do you think we could we defeat him?"

"Nope," Mizuki hums. "Go back; I'm going to talk with the commander."

"He's going to kill you."

"He can't," Mizuki's blade meets Fukuchi's as Tachihara makes a run for it.

"So," Mizuki grins. "Old man."

"How'd you do it? How'd you break free?"

"You wanna know?" Mizuki hops back as another blade meets her. "Apparently, the book doesn't work on the owner."

Fukuchi falters for a moment, and Mizuki takes the chance to stab his stomach.

"This won't do anything, but it was worth a shot." Mizuki pulls her blade out, and Fukuchi coughs out blood.

"I can't heal myself," Fukuchi's eyes widen at the wound on his abdomen. "What kind of a blade is that?"

"Since you love Amenogozen so much," Mizuki hums. "Meet my trusty blade. Anunitu."

"So you're the one we need to kill off." Fukuchi chuckles. "Ishtar?"

"I prefer Greed." Mizuki hums, her blade meeting Fukuchi's again. Fukuchi hisses at the wound on his abdomen. "As a member of the hunting dogs, I know better than anyone where your organs have been rearranged."

"How long have you been planning this?" Fukuchi gets knocked back before charging at her again.

"I'll tell you when you're dead," Mizuki smiles. "Old man."

"M̶̼͕̽́͛͘͝a̶͓̜̙͕͐͂m̷̫̜͖̼̍̿͘m̸̧̛̤̖̞̐ǫ̴̢̤̹̂̑͊̊̕n̷̳̄."

"Let's see if Amenogozen can destroy Mammon," Mizuki spins, her blade meeting with Fukuchi's again.

"You got stronger."

"It's a given." Mizuki smiles. "After all, a wife has to match her husband in skill."

"You're married?"

"You didn't realize I had a ring on my finger?" Mizuki raises a brow as she jumps back from the attack.

"I did; I just never figured out to who. The hunting dogs have no files in the government, after all." Fukuchi's blade pokes at Mizuki's waist.

"Wrong," Mizuki hums. "You just don't pay attention to your best friend."

Fukuchi actually falters this time, and Mizuki stabs his thigh.

"FUKUZAWA THAT BASTARD LIED TO ME??"

"Bingo!" Mizuki grins. "Does he not wear his ring when he sees you?"

"I HAVEN'T DRUNK WITH HIM IN YEARS!" Fukuchi pushes Mizuki back.

"I've been married to him for over ten years by now," Mizuki sighs mockingly. "You really are an awful best friend! He was wearing his ring when you drank with him at the agency's opening!"

"HUH?!?!?!" Fukuchi manages to find the breath to talk with Mizuki while their blades meet. "Were you there?"

"For obvious reasons, no," Mizuki smiles. "You know, you were a pretty awful person in your last life."

"Coming from you, I'm not really surprised."

Mizuki goes silent, the two fighting harshly. Her blade meets his; an echo blares out each time it does. He had been her close friend in her past life as well, blindly believing him since Fukuzawa seldom trusted anyone. Ignorance is bliss, and in her case, she had wished finding out he was Kamui was a lie. She craved the days when the three would get so drunk that they had to crash the night at the nearest house.

"Would you like to know something?" Mizuki smiles, knocking Fukuchi back against the wall.

"Why not?"

Mizuki's blade digs into his chest, piercing through his heart. Fukuchi feels his heartbeat grow weak.

"If you tell me where you hid Bram, I'll be glad to let you leave alive."

Fukuchi scoffs.

"I don't need you to, but it's also a choice." Mizuki smiles.

The sword cuts through space, and pierces Mizuki's side.

"SON OF A B-" Mizuki swings her blade out instinct, slicing the man's head off, completely destroying him. The blood flies onto Mizuki's face, and she sighs. Her uniform had gotten dirty. "Mammon, eat his ability."

Stolen.

She stares at him, in silence, before drawing a makeshift door on the wall. Mammon leaves a hole in the man's chest, where his ability would have rested. She takes Fukuchi's blade as she twists open the door.

"Lucy, I'm sorry," Mizuki smiles sadly. "Can you...?"

The girl nods.

The man is pulled into Anne's room, and Mizuki smiles. "I'm sorry."

Lucy smiles. "Can you erase it?"

Mizuki pulls a crystal from her pocket, and she bites into it. Swallowing the gem, she holds a hand to the girl's forehead. "Everything but the fact that he's in your room. Stay safe in mine."

Lucy nods.

The girl leaves through the door into Mizuki's ability.

"Was that necessary?" Jouno diffuses in after a couple minutes of silence. "To kill him?"

Mizuki pulls the ribbon from her hair. Her eyes stare at the setting sun, and in the distance, a crow sings.

"Was it necessary... I wonder," Mizuki closes her eyes. "The others?"

"Tachihara swapped with me." Jouno mumbles. "I don't know about the others."

The woman stares at the bloodstains on the wall, and then she stares at the blood on herself.

"How do I explain that I killed the commander?"

"I'm not- the rest of them are approaching."

"MIZUKI-SENSEI!" Tachihara gasps. "Are you alright? Where did Commander go?"

Mizuki pats him on the back lightly. "Dead."

"MI-SAN, YOU KILLED THE COMMANDER?!" Teruko sobs, sitting on Tecchou's shoulders.

Mizuki pauses, unsure of what the girl was going to do.

"How could you do it without me??" Teruko cries.

Mizuki tilts her head lightly.

"It might be unknown to you," Tecchou speaks up. "but Teruko died to the commander in our past life."

Mizuki drops her sword onto the ground. "She died to who?"

"He killed me!" Teruko whines. "I admired him for so long, and he killed me! I..."

"It's hard to change how one acts so drastically," Mizuki sighs. "What really happened?"

"I wanted to join the DOA. He rejected me, saying I wasn't enough." Teruko grumbles. "So I thought, how about I join the terrorists?"

Mizuki smiles in amusement.

"How pleasing."

In a world you create, you are the god everyone talks about. You just have a shitty god complex.

Mizuki shrugs.

"Now that... that's over." Teruko glances at the blood splattered on the concrete. "Who's the commander?"

"You. Obviously," Mizuki raises a brow at the girl. "Who else?"

"Tachihara."

"Tachihara."

"Valid claim." Mizuki hums. "I'm going to receive backlash from this."

She tosses the commander's blade in her hand twice, and she smiles.

"Mizuki?"

The blade pierces Teruko's throat, successfully knocking her off of Tecchou.

"MIZUKI!" Tachihara yells.

"We have a liar," Mizuki smiles eerily at the girl on the ground. "You never got your memories returned to you. Neither did Tecchou. No one can activate the memory chips other than me."

Teruko coughs, her voice box pierced from the blade. The silence between the two is suffocating, but her eyes tell her a single sentence.

"How about," Mizuki grins. "You go to hell?"

Teruko's blade clashes with hers, and the girl reaches for Mizuki.

"No Longer Human."

Activated.

Teruko's ability doesn't work.

Mizuki smiles. "After I killed Fukuchi, I was given a new title. Wanna guess what it was?"

Teruko's eyes harden in contempt as she charges at Mizuki again.

Hunting Dogs seldom die from a simple stab wound.

"Plague."

Mizuki laughs as the girl drops halfway, coughing out blood from her mouth.

"Wanna guess?" Mizuki stabs her sword through the girl.

"Mizuki, that's enough."

The woman turns to stare at Tachihara.

"Got a soft spot?" Her eyes are red with blood, hazy with arousal. "Hm? Tachihara?"

"What good is there in killing her?"

"Did you know? In her previous life, she tried killing my son out of retaliation." Mizuki locks the girl into the ground with another ability.

Mizuki sits cross-legged next to the girl. "So? What do I do with her?"

"..." Tachihara grimaces. "We can't stop being a hunting dog. You know that."

Mizuki hums. "I suppose. I can heal her, but I'm not sure how much of her memory I can wipe. Why?"

"We'll take her back to the base." Tachihara closes his eyes."

"Or," Mizuki hums. "We can say that the DOA killed her while out on a mission."

"She's borderline unkillable."

"Not when Fyodor's ability can kill without touching," Mizuki smiles. "I wonder if the plague will kill her first, or..."

Mizuki flips her phone open, and texts someone.

"She died on the mission." Mizuki grabs the girl, and Teruko disappears into thin air. "Got it?"

"..."

"Got it?"

"Yes, mam."
